679 problems related to headlights have been reported for the 2007 Toyota Prius. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The headlights keep burning out and stops working without warning.
For a few months, the left hand side front headlight has gone out, if I turn the lights off and then back on again, it comes back on. However last night, while driving on a dark nc highway both lights went out. They came back on when I turned the lights on an off again. This happened two more times. It is clearly a safety issue that I see many other Prius owners experience. It is entirely possible both lights have been going out for some time, since driving on dark country highways at 70 mph is not something I regularly do.
While driving passenger side headlight went out. After several tries of turning lights on and off, the headlight stayed on. It cuts out at difficult times like driving on highway. Worried police may stop me. Have tried several fixes like new headlight assembly, etc.
While driving at night, the headlights will randomly turn off. This is dangerous and scary. Please help!.
One headlight on my car keeps shutting off, while the other is fine. I am able to "fix" the issue by turning my headlights off and then turning them on again. Dealers initially told me it was because the bulb burned out, but I replaced both at the same time, and it's always the driver's side bulb that "burns out. " upon further review on public forums, it appears the bulb is perfectly fine and there's some type of electrical issue/connection problem that causes problems with the bulb. This happens when the vehicle is on and in-motion on any street.
Headlights turn off on their own while driving at night. Very dangerous !!!.
Headlights go off without warning while driving at night. Very dangerous!!.
One headlight turns off randomly. Every now and again turning the lights off and on again will fix the problem, but when you're driving 70mph down a dark highway you don't want to have to keep your fingers crossed that the lights will come back on.
Every day the headlights go out randomly at night. Very dangerous.
My headlight consistently flickers on and off. I have changed my bulb, but it continues to turn off at times. From my research online, it looks like the 2007-2009 Prius models were recalled due to faulty headlights.
Headlights flicker and go out even after replacing the right headlight that seems to be the problem. Not safe to be going d down road and headlights go. Out completely. . It has been happening for. Nearly 6. Months. Had headlight replaced 3 months ago.
Headlights constantly going out while driving. I do not operate the lights in daytime. It's a major flaw and problem with this 2006-2009 model and a safety hazard. Not to mention I am almost always subject to police issues tickets and fines. I have replaced my bulbs countless times. The lights go out while stationary and in motion. Always one at a time.
Front headlight (both) sometimes all lights will go off. Most of the time it is one or the other but I have had it happen where both completely turn off while driving. On the freeway!!! this happens daily and ive even been pulled over more than 3 times due to me not knowing about a light out! turning on and off the lights is only a temporary fix!.
While driving (in motion), one headlight (either right or left) will suddenly go off. If I turn both lights off and back on, they will both come back on. But one or the other might go off again soon afterwards. It sometimes happens on short trips (a few blocks) and sometimes only after driving several miles. It happens on neighborhood streets and on the highway, while going straight. Sometimes it happens after a noticeable bump in the road, but other times it happens when the road is smooth. It happens at slow speed (<30 mph), medium, or highway speed.
Both front headlights frequently turn off at the same time while driving. Turning the lights off then on fixes the issue temporarily, until it happens again a short time later. This happens multiple times per hour.
I was driving my 2007 Toyota Prius in the middle of the night and all of the sudden all of my lights went out. I was in the middle of a busy road and could not see anything and decide to just pull off the road and hope not to hit anything because I just wanted to get off the road before I got hit by an oncoming car. After I got off the road for awhile I tried the lights and they both worked. I took my Prius to a state college, PA dealership and they charged me $450. 00 because they said both headlights were out. The next day after I picked my Prius from the Toyota dealership I went to a grocery store after work and the car would not turn off and the whole dashboard was black. . I called the dealership and said they must have created a short in my car and they said bring it back in. The next day they told me the whole cluster system that controls the dashboard was bad and they would be charging another $680. 00.
Left front headlight consistently flickers out 5-10 minutes after being turned on. Can sometimes be reignited by toggling lights, but then turns off again.
Headlights turn off. Generally one at a time, normally the drivers side but sometimes it is both headlights. This happens each time I drive with my headlights on. I drive at night with the headlights on at a minimum of 6 days a week because of work or school.
Headlights flicker then will shut off completelywhile driving down highway. . No dash lights. Have to turn car off and on.
Problem with headlights going off started several months ago, but now it's a daily occurrence and happens in the dark! today it happened twice. So far I've been able to turn them off and on again and they work, but pretty scary when on an expressway. Really surprised Toyota doesn't take care of this as it's definitely a safety issue and they've known about it early on. Death or injury is sure to occur. I will definitely be contacting Toyota on Monday knowing so many others have this issue, too!.
The passenger side headlight goes out intermittently. Turning off the lights and then back on will turn the light back on, sometimes. Dealer's repair shop stated hid lightbulb was bad and replaced it. It did not fix the problem. Based on other postings, this is a fairly common issue.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle driver side headlight flickers on and off with no warning lights illuminated. Teh contact also mentioned that teh hedlights had to be manufacully turned off tehn turned back on for the light to function noramally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the headlight needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware if the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Dr.
I bought this 2007 Toyota Prius used and was not informed by the seller that there was a problem with the hid headlamps. While driving, the right headlamp will periodically flicker and/or cut out. Turning off then on the headlights resets it to be on. After researching the problme online, I discovered that this is a known issue with Toyota and that there was a class action lawsuit. Replacing the bulbs for this model are very expensive and this problem should not be occurring. I would like to know how to get this problem resolved. Thank you!.
Headlights go off intermittently while driving at night.
While driving in city or highway the headlights go out suddenly. Turning lights off then on again turns headlights back on. This is extremely dangerous driving at night or on dark roads.
Hid headlights go off while driving. Turning off and back on will restart for a bit. Sometimes they are dim or flicker before going off. I have changed the ballast and bulbs for both sides multiple times over the past 5 years without a permanent repair. Had all work redone with new Toyota parts on 11/29 and they are not working again on 12/1. Apparently this is a known defect with this model and Toyota extended the warranty but that is long since past. The vehicle is unusable after dark as they are now both going off without warning.
The headlights are prone to turning to off randomly, sometimes one side, other times both sides. After turning them on/off at the steering column they will come back on for a while then the issue starts over. This problem occurs with the vehicle either moving or in the stationary mode. No headlights when driving at night is a definite safety hazard. So far, Toyota refuses to fix. The lights will go out one at a time if the drivers side light goes out both lights have gone out. I got a warning ticket for headlight out by officer when I turned them off and back on they came on. Next day went to inspection station and the lights passed. Have inspection report and warning ticket. Date of incident 11/27/2017. Replaced bulbs several times. Very dangerous to have both lights go out driving 70 mph.
6 months ago had both headlights replaced. Today only the highbeams work.
The headlight randomly flickers then goes out. Turning the headlights off then on will get the headlight to turn back on. This happens at random times and is dangerous especially on poorly lit roads in the dark.
One of the headlights keeps going out. I can't really tell when or how it goes out since I can't see it. I'll notice it when I see the reflection in the back of another car. If I turn the bright lights on and off it has no effect, but when I turn them all the way off and back on the light comes back. Sometimes on long trips it will stay on the whole time, sometimes it won't. Sometimes on short trips it will go out, sometimes it won't. It is not an event I can make happen.
Headlights will randomly turn off when driving or parked. Turning off and then on will work but only for a short time.
While at a stop sign I turned on my brights and the headlights went out for about 5 seconds then flickered back on. The headlights have been flickering randomly as well.
Without warning, one or both of the headlights will go out. It can happen shortly after starting the car or at other random times. The problem has continued for months. Replacing the bulbs did not fix the problem. Problem continued with same frequency.
Takata issue: I am filing this complaint on behalf of caela erickson, my seventeen-year old grand-daughter. The vehicle was recently purchased used as her first-vehicle. The first time she drove it at night, the headlights dimmed and then actually turned of! this was while she was driving on a dark and winding back road here in the ojai valley on a busy holiday weekend. This is a very dangerous situation and one that could have had tragic consequences. When we took the vehicle into the local dealership, we were informed that there had been a class action suit settlement years before and that, although the car had been sold used to the previous owner through another dealership, the repair work had not been done. We were informed that the work required to completely replace both headlight systems. . . Work that must be done to make the car safe to drive and that will cost nearly $1000. 00. . . Is no longer covered. This is totally unacceptable. If the problem was bad enough to be covered in a class-action suit, why didn't the original dealership insure that the vehicle was safe prior to re-selling it? it seems to me that as the sales end of the Toyota corporation, it was their responsibility to have corrected this dangerous problem prior to putting it back on the road. I believe this incident is an example of why this problem needs to be up-graded to a recall! there should not be a time limit on safety issues and consumers should not be placed in danger and/or have to foot the bill for Toyota's decision to purchase sub-par products from takata.
The headlights come on but after about ten seconds the left light only goes off. If I flick them off completely and then on again they start the process all over. The light bulb works but it seems to be something technical or electrical. The car was in motion when this happened because I was following my mother and she pulled over to let me know I was running on just one headlight and a cop could pull me over for it. I have to get my car inspected again for license renewal but we have to fix this first!.
