In fall of 2015 recall for hybrid system failure was preformed to computer system. In the fall of 2016 I was pulling out onto traffic onto a state route when engine lost power and lights for the hybrid system came on. Was running on only gas engine with limited slow acceleration to about 35 mph. Was able to safely drive it to a location to park it until flat towed to the dealership. Was told by Toyota dealership that the hybrid system failed, upon research I found it failed exactly as stated in the recall that was done in fall of 2015. The previous recall "fix" was too little too late the damage had already been done. Fought with Toyota dealership and corporate about that this was a recall fix that failed and didn't fix the problem. They would not cover the cost of the $3000 repair entirely and I am stuck paying half of the repair that should have been covered entirely under the recall.

While accelerating on a highway going from the right lane to a left lane with my two young children in the car, I got a" check hybrid system" on the screen. Which made the car unable to accelerate, all I could do was to put my hazards on and pull thru 3 lanes of high speed cars to get to a breakdown lane next to an on ramp, so I was in the middle of the 4 lane highway and 2 lane on ramp. I then got my kids out and ran across the on ramp to put them on the other side of the concrete barrier for protection. Then I went back to the car to gather waters and food because it was 90 degrees out in utah, I waited on the side of the road for 30 minutes until a tow truck came. I am very very upset about this because it could've caused an accident and also put our lives at stake from possible re end.

Oil consumption. I purchased my Prius with 77000 miles for a local Toyota dealership. My car now has 140000 miles and consumes 2-3 quarts of oil per week. I have contacted Toyota customer service for help. I was directed to have an oil consumption test preformed. If there is a problem Toyota may offer repair assistance however my engine is not on the list of Toyota approved vehicles eligible for complementary repair. I am required to pay out of pocket for the test and repairs. I will update with results as soon as possible.

48 mpg when purchased new in July 2009. 30 mpg at 130,000 miles in 2016. Gumout and seafoam helped clean out fuel injectors with improved 35 mpg.

While in motion at 30 mph on a city street(bridge), all of the warning lights on the dashboard came on and the car slowed down to less than 20mph. I was able to drive the car at 20 to a repair shop. Had this happened on a freeway with limited or no shoulder or while in the left lane, it could have resulted in a serious and deadly accident. . Since Toyota failed to notify me of this problem, I took it to an independent repair shop and they diagnosed the problem as failure of the intelligent power module (ipm), part of the hybrid inverter. I then had the car towed to a Toyota dealership where the repair was completed as part of the warrranty enhancement program. I am including a pdf that shows the diagnosis performed by hawthorne auto as well as a copy of a letter from Toyota that I never received. I cannot overstate the potential danger this defect could cause. A less experienced driver might have panicked. Certainly, if this had happened on a freeway in rush hour traffic, I could easily have been rear ended - drivers generally and reasonably do not expect cars going 60 to slow down for no apparent reason to 20. Toyota has determined that this problem merits only a "warranty enhancement" rather than a recall. I believe that they do not want to issue a recall because this is an expensive repair. I hope that NHTSA will take steps to make this a recall before some innocent person dies as a result of this serious defect. I have sent you the documentation that I felt would be sufficient for your investigation but I have more if you need it, including many pages that detail the results of the diagnostics performed by hawthorne auto. The VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign numbe: 12v536000 (engine and engine cooling, hybrid propulsion system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000. Aw.

This happened twice. The first time I was driving 40mph, the check engine light came on and then the accelerator stopped working. Then the check hybrid system light came on and I guided the car over to the side of the road. The car would start but the accelerator would not function and the (digital) speedometer numbers disappeared. I brought the car to the dealership where they replaced a valve and told me it was fixed. Two days later (after driving the car without incident on several trips for at least 40 miles) the same exact thing happened, however this time I was travelling 50 mph while entering a very busy highway during rush hour.

I was driving aproximately 35 mph and all of a sudden the car stalled and stated, "check hybrid system". Stopped the care right away called my insurance company for emergency road service and had the car towed to a Toyota facility where they diagnosed the problem as a failed inverter, which is part of the hybrid system. This is a safety issue and must be addressed. If I had been on a freeway or in heavy traffic, I could see this being a very dangerous scenario.

Accelerated to get on highway. Once on the highway the system hybrid warning light and other warning lights and audio alarms came on. We had to exit immediately because we lost the ability to maintain highway speed.

I am writing due to having had my 2010 Toyota Prius self accelerate while driving on four occasions. This began occurring after I took my vehicle to Toyota of clermont, florida for a routine service on 3/31/2014. While the vehicle was there, the dealership also performed a recall on the vehicle. This recall is referenced tech(s) : 20799 recall eoe motor generator and power management update perform software update for mg ecu and power management ecu agg09a 0. 7 as of 8/5/2014 my vehicle has had unintended acceleration on 4 occasions. In 3 of the 4 I know it has occurred as I released the brake. This release is confirmed by the fact that it is necessary to reapply the brake to stop the acceleration. The 4th occurrence may also have occurred after a brake release. I have attempted to resolve this problem via both my local Toyota dealer and Toyota customer experience center at 1 800 331-4331. I am being told the problem is operator error. I have done the research to see if this is even possible. For me to apply the brake and fuel simultaneously would be both extremely difficult and very obvious. Additionally if this diagnosis were correct the vehicle would stop accelerating when the brake was released. In fact the vehicle accelerates when the brake is released not while the brake is depressed.

After driving for a combined time of 4 hours in a 5 hour period, my wife left a store she visited off zebulon road and I-475 near macon GA. When attempting to re-enter southbound I-475 the car failed and would not accelerate. A few seconds after the drive system shut down and would not restart. The dash indicators said check hybrid power system. The car was towed to a dealer rogers Toyota in macon GA, where it now is. The dealer says that the problem was the engine control module though the inverter is being replaced under an existing recall issued last week. It is not clear if the engine control module is covered by the recall.

Toyota release a recall for 2010 to 2014 Toyota Prius. Recall was made to affected Prius models to rectify software in two of the Prius's electronic control units, one for the motor/generator and the other controlling the hybrid system. I took my car to the dealer to have the recall done, here is where my problems started, I saw a drop on mpg from 52 to 44. On Monday February 24th 2014 my 2010 Toyota Prius, hybrid inverter failed while I was driving and my car suddenly stopped on the road. I looked on the instrument panel and the check hybrid system was illuminated. The car would not start. I decided to call a toll truck company to take me to the nearest Toyota dealer. Once I arrived the service advisor informed me, the 2010 Toyota Prius has two active safety recalls. I was never notified. The two safety recalls are the hybrid inverter & brake booster pump assembly. Today is Thursday February 27th 2014 and the Toyota dealer has failed to repair and return my car. The Toyota dealer stated this is a safety recall, they need permission from Toyota headquarters to approve parts. I pleaded with the Toyota dealer to provide me with a vehicle, while I wait, they refused.

Driving on the highway in albany, NY area, slowed down to go through tollbooth as I began to accelerate to continue on highway, check hybrid light came on and engine abruptly stopped. I was able to coast the car from left lane over to the breakdown lane. Turned off car and was unable to restart. Toyota dealership found that the power inverter had failed and needed to be replaced. Error codes listed by dealer: p0a94 DC/DC converter performance.

I was driving with the flow of traffic (around 30 mph) on a main surface street in a middle lane of a multilane street when suddenly the engine stopped, and I was unable to make the engine respond. The car immediately began to slow down; I could not make it accelerate to keep in the flow of traffic. I managed to carefully drift over to the right and maneuver through an intersection and glide to a stop on the right side of the road. I turned off the engine and repeatedly tried to restart it to no avail. I called for towing service and had the car towed to my Toyota dealer, where the service people said it was an "internal failure" and replaced the inverter assembly. What has terrified me is that I could have been on the freeway driving at least 60 mph, where the consequences would be devastating to me and others. I asked if Toyota would be reporting this to the NHTSA, and they said that was an internal determination. I asked if this had happened before to others and did not receive a clear answer.

While driving at CA. 20 mph a sudden jolt and clunk occurred and the car was stalled. Various dashboard lights came on, and the dash displayed "check hybrid system. " towed to a Toyota dealer, the problem was stated to be a failed inverter-converter that needed to be replaced.

Our 2010 Prius suffered a near total power failure on 5/10/13 when the car suddenly and without any advanced warning, lost power decelerating from about 35 mph to about 4 mph in less than 5 seconds. Every idiot light came on at once on the dash panel and a "hybrid system failure" notice came up on the alphanumeric display. Luckily, I was on a city street and not the highway when this happened. I was able to get the car safely off to the side of the road and call for a tow. Our Prius has approx. 44000 miles on it, is regularly maintained at the dealer, not mistreated in any way and gave no advanced warning indication that there was anything wrong with the electrical/propulsion system. The car lost almost total power, limped about 50 feet past parked cars and just died at the curb after I put it in park. It would light up across the dash, but never start the engine. We have had this car about 36 months. As this is my wife's car, I am greatly worried about the safety of the car and having this problem happening again, especially to her at high speed, multi-lane highway driving. It has been repaired at a local Toyota dealership. They installed a new 12v battery and eventually the main fix, a inverter/converter. The car now runs like day one. However, how do we trust this car in the future if it did not give any warning of imminent propulsion failure ? I am getting nowhere with Toyota about their providing some kind of advanced warning to get the car onto the shoulder of the road and keep it running for about 1 - 5 minutes. Thank you.

The incident occurred when I attempted to accelerate onto a two-lane highway. Because of a slow and sharp u-turn which precedes the short on-ramp, I disabled the eco mode for better acceleration. When I pressed down on the gas, the car immediately emitted a loud sound, became unresponsive and was unable to gain additional speed. Even so, there was no other option but to merge onto the roadway while doing no more than 30 mph. In the meantime, the instrument panel showed a "check hybrid system" message along with several warning lights. I managed to avoid oncoming traffic (from behind) and safely pulled onto the grass. Attempts to restart the vehicle were unsuccessful with the previous message reappearing each time. The car required a tow to the nearest Toyota dealer. I received a call from them the next business day, and they explained the cause to be a defective inverter based on the diagnostic code. Fortunately, the repair will be covered under Toyota's hybrid warranty. It remains to be seen and I am hopeful this repair will fully resolve the issue.

While carefully parking my Prius 2010 at a hospital it accelerated suddenly and crashed over the cement curb. I say carefully because my Prius had done this before but not enough damage was done to file with insurance. There followed another accident and another accident. Then this evening while driving into my carport my Prius accelerated again. It threw my dog that was in the front seat to the floor but I was able to avoid car damage as I was going to stop. I was barely moving, that is I still had my foot on the accelerator,maybe I could say coasting, when this acceleration suddenly occurred. This was the same type acceleration that caused all the prior accidents. I have reported this to Toyota. . . And now you. Hopefully you will help me. My Prius is in the carport. It has not been moved. However, it is my only transportation. My Prius' latest happening, before the one just stated, the hybrid system quit working during rush hour traffic on the interstate near a busy intersection. This was repaired before Toyota sent some one to investigate the prior accidents. If more information is needed just let me know. This Prius also had a battery replaced shortly after it was purchased as a new vehicle. This Prius has wheel rim scratches.

My 2010 Toyota Prius has had a charcoal fuel canister leak since day one. 2. 9 million Prius cars were recalled and Toyota says my car is not included in the recall but has the same issue of the other Toyota Prius that were included? check engine light has never gone off. Upon fueling a strong odor of gasoline is detected and I am very worried about the car catching fire. Toyota needs to be held accountable and forced to fix this safety related problem.

For the last 14 years, a check engine light has been coming on telling me that I have a fuel canister emissions leak because the canister is cracked. In 2016 2. 87 million Toyota Priuses were recalled with the fuel canister crack issue. For unknown reasons Toyota has refused to fix this dangerous issue and has told me that my car was not included in the recall. I do not believe Toyota is being honest in their continued denial of this dangerous issue and excluding my 2010 Toyota Prius. This issue has been ongoing since the car was new.

I own a 2010 Prius. After putting 10k miles on it, I have yet to see the 50+ mpg. I could have easily bought a Honda civic, saved $15,000+ and still gotten 38mpg. I have taken the car to the dealership on a few occasions and they cannot tell me why I have lost almost 20mpg. All they can tell me is that it is probably the gas that I am using. I can see how this might make a slight difference like 3-4mpg, but not 20! I believe the 50mpg benchmark given by Toyota is bogus. I want my money back!.

2010 Toyota Prius - when braking, if you hit a bump or pot hole in the road, the car lunges forward (accelerates). You have to really pay attention for this occurrence or you will rear end someone. I has happen about 5 times now. This seems to be a electronics issue not a pedal problem.

I was on a trip to arizona and when driving in my 2010 Prius from flagstaff to phoenix during the evening, the batter display's top segment glowed red many times in the descent from flagstaff. It was a very difficult to drive to keep the top segment from turning red as the vehicle was coasting and I did not want to exceed the speed limit so I really did not now what to do. I decided to shift to neutral so the engine was not breaking. However in neutral I was wearing out my vehicles brakes which also worried me because of the possibility of overheating the brakes. I looked in my vehicle manual but nothing as in the booklet about this type of occurrence. So I asked my Toyota service personnel at rudy luther Toyota in golden valley, mn and they had not heard of this problem. He gave me a the telephone number for customer service representatives at Toyota and after discussing this incident with many people in customer service at Toyota, the end result was "that the battery was fully charged and when this occurs the top bar will glow red but this will not effect the battery". I do not know if this is true or Toyota is just putting me off but others at the following Toyota forum have also experienced this problem. Is this a safety problem, I do not know. I own a 2010 Toyota Prius, 3rd generation. When I am braking and hit a pothole or a manhole cover, the car surges forward. I took it to the dealership today and they checked the car and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They also said they had no knowledge of any kind of braking or surging problems with this vehicle. Our dealer was eastern shore Toyota in daphne, al. This has happened approximately 6 different times since we bought the car in 2009. It started to occur approximately in July 2009, with the most recent episode in January 2010.
