1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2025

While pulling out of a parallel parking spot going slightly uphill, I braked as I looked around the back of a double parked truck. I saw a car coming, braked hard, and suddenly my car surged forward across the street and hit a parked car. I looked down and saw that my foot was squarely on the brake pedal pressing down as hard as I could. The parked car was unoccupied, and I was uninjured. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem. I turned my car into the dealer for repairs and a fix to the sudden unexpected acceleration. They could offer no fix until a Toyota representative examined the car. On August 14, by an emailed letter, Toyota claimed it found no defects and it must be the result of driver error, specifically, my mistakenly hitting the accelerator. This is gaslighting denialism. (a) the edr data sent to me does not indicate that I hit the accelerator unless that data is in the page of hexadecimal numbers. (b) Toyota's claim that I hit the breaks at "-0. 2 seconds prior to the collision" is physically impossible. No one can move their foot from the accelerator to the brake that fast. (c) Toyota's claim is contrary to what I experienced and observed.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2024

As I was driving, my breaks suddenly became spongey and unresponsive. I could hear a "hiss" sound come from below me. Abs and other warning lights came on on my dash. As I was near my auto mechanic I tried to make it there safely, and as I drove the brakes seemed to become softer and softer. By the time I had reached my mechanic I was so uncomfortable with its ineffectivness I felt it necessary to use the emergency brake to come to a complete stop. My mechanic confirmed that the issues included the failing of the brake booster, brake master cylinder, accumulator pump, abs, abs computer. According to him this was caused by a set of issues involving internal leaks in the brake booster assembly. These issues were replicatable, and my mechanic says they pose a saftey risk. Even after he gave it a "temporary patch job. " due to this the only times it has been driven were to get it home, to move it along our street so as to not get ticketed for having a stationary vehicle too many days in a row, and one time it was taken up the nearest rise in preparation for a tsunami warning. When looking for replacment parts, my mechanic allerted me to a technical service bulletin that should have been sent out to owners warning them of this issue and offering replacment parts. I never received this notice as I am the second owner of this vehicle, the notices were sent before I owned it, the previous owner claims not to have been aware of this issue herself, and because it was a voluntary service call, when researching the vehicle myself for any reported issues such as recalls, none had come up, meaning I had no way of knowing. To add to this, I contacted Toyota to see if they would honor the past offer to service this issue, but Toyota refuses to replace the parts now as it is too far past the voluntary service dates they set.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2024

I contacted Toyota about the peeling paint on my car. The Toyota representative told me to file a complaint with your agency. The paint is peeling on the roof of my car. There are many similar cars with the same problem. Toyota is unresponsive.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2024

2012 Prius has a fault from the the manufactor where the electronic brake abs actuator and pump, which are two seperate parts working together, are faulty. Various lights on dashboard illuminate brake, tire pressure, abs, and traction control. When this occurs the car becomes very unsafe to drive as the brakes become almost non existant because the braking system on the car is electronic and controlled by both the pump and actuator. This makes the car dangerous to drive, even in short trip conditions as the brakes could fail to engage at any time. The dealer confirmed that it is a known issue on this model Prius and did not cover the cost to fix it even though the car is not safe to drive. This is dangerous and should have a recall so the car can be safe to drive on roads and potenially save lives if the brake system fails to engage,.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2023

The glass sunroof spontaneously exploded or imploded. There was a loud popping sound and I looked up at the sunroof, and it was shattered. Glass started falling on me as I was driving on the highway. There have been many reported cases of this happening found online. Https://topclassactions. Com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/Toyota-owners-should-be-aware-of-reported-exploding-sunroof-risk/ it has not been inspected yet. No warning messages.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2023

My letter to Toyota: I'm writing this in regard to an inverter issue my 2012 Prius c recently experienced. While driving last month my car completely shut down, no warning and thankfully cars avoided hitting me and I was able to get from the middle lane to be able to coast to a side street in which I had to be towed. It turned out it was an inverter issue which had to be replaced. Granted my vehicle has less than 135k even though it is a 2012. I have done research and found models of Prius had the same exact issue(s) which was part of a warranty enhancement and I truly think my vehicle should be included. I want this to be looked in to and addressed. I will be contacting NHTSA also in regard to this. I filed with Toyota and ref#230323001904.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2022

I was driving on highway & the vehicle stopped accelerating as I was pressing the gas. I put my hazards on & got to the side of the road. Then the eps light came on & the dash stopped showing the mph. The ac stopped blowing cold air & the windows were working slow. I turned car off then back on a couple of times then more lights came on. No lights were on prior to this & I haven’t had any problems w the vehicle before this. I just got this car & I feel like it has something to do with a recall but no one wants to take responsibility for the issue.

Hi, I have a 2012 Toyota Prius with around 120k miles that is completely inoperable. A local Toyota dealership is charging $3400 to replace both computers, but the more I research the more apparent it becomes that this is directly linked with past issues that were never fully resolved during previous recall attempts. . 13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2021

I was in freeway going home last night after visiting my mom by point loma area san diego. I was on 8fwy going east, then I merge to 805fwy south which I always and usually take same route. As I went on ramp of 805 south going on a steep high altitude, my 2012 Priusv stall and I can't accelerate when I was stepping into my gas pedal which I have already pushed it all the way in. So I quickly put emergency lights on and slowly guided my car to the right shoulder. I called aaa which I've been a member for so many years. And believe me it is really a life saver. This safety could have been worst from my experience of been driving for more than 30 years. I got it towed all the way home which was about 7 miles. The traffic was heavy on a Saturday night and I waited for almost 2 hours for my towing. When I got up this late Sunday almost noontime, I went out to check on my car and it is still saying "check hybrid system" with all the lights on my module was on. I started it and noticed there was an acceleration so I drove it back to my driveway since the tow truck just drop it off on the curveside close by my residence. It drove ok, and then I started my research online and I recently bought a code reader but not sure if it will work on my hybrid 2012 Prius v. Nothing came out on the reader. I called my buddy which was a certified ase mechanic but has less experience on hybrid. But he has a more expensive code reader and analyser equipment and tools. I also check the Toyota headquarters and you website about my car on safety recalls. I just had taken this vehicle to the dealer for some sort of worldwide safety recalls on all this typical model. I've also read an additional recall and they just have launched it 01/2019. I've plug in my VIN# on all of this sites for a check but nothing is coming out. But their complaint is similar to what's going on to my car. It's "check hybrid system" and I believe it's the inverter issues. Please update me and also the Toyota hq.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2021

Car suddenly had no pick up. There seems to be problems with the engine accelerating/switching gears. This was extremely dangerous while I was driving. Also if just had the car inspected a few months prior.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2021

All the brake lights popped on and check engine light . There was a radal in the engine I got the check engine light check it was multiple mis fire so I changed spark plugs and coil packs . Yesterday the vehicle stalled while moving and wouldn't go no where else . There is a recall on the car that my fiance just got in the mail and Toyota in goldsboro nc doesn't want to do anything about it .

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2021

Three doors stopped opening and closing with the remote key and inside lock/unlock buttons in a span of three weeks. Not able to open and close the door with the remote key or lock/unlock button is a safety risk. Toyota confirmed that all three door lock actuators failed. Each one costs $800 to replace with a total cost of $2400. It is inspected by Toyota dealership, Toyota 101, 386 convention way, redwood city, 94063. The car had only 36,448 miles. The problem appeared all of a sudden. First one lock failed. Soon all three locks failed.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2021

My horn no longer works. I took it into the dealer and it was diagnosed as having a faulty spiral cable. According to information on the internet, the spiral cable also plays a role in the deployment of the driver airbag. This part was under a recall for vehicles a couple of years prior. I feel that if this is a known issue and an extreme safety issue then it should also be fixed under recall. The dealer price to fix this is over $800. I have opened a case with Toyota #210-128-2281, but they don't see it as a safety concern and will not offer assistance to remedy the faulty cable.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2020

Drivers side door lock malfunction. Drivers side door will not open with keyless remote or by resting my hand on the door handle which should automatically open all doors. I tried using electronic unlock button inside drivers side door and also won't open. It appears to be a bad drivers side unlock actuator which has so many complaints that its obvious this part is not built correctly. It is a safety concern because you can get locked inside vehicle.

Failure Date: 01/18/2020

I switched into neutral and pushed the park button to park. I leaned forward to grab my wallet and felt the car accelerating over the parking curb. I immediately slammed the brakes and the car accelerated into a building. I am fortunate to be alive because if the airbag would have activated, I would have broke my neck.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2019

My 2012 Prius c with 90,000 miles began to lose power/speed driving when check hybrid system warning suddenly came on tonight. It was unresponsive to the gas peddle, even at full throttle. Did not allow enough time to pull to the side of a busy road before it lost all ability to drive, leaving me stalled near intersection. A stranger helped push my car off the main road until aaa sent a tow truck. Had this occurred one mile later, I would've stalled on the 25 southbound freeway going from lone tree to denver at a very busy time in the evening without warning (scary thought). Upon arriving home with the towed vehicle, I attempted to start the engine again, but it would not start. Turned off the ignition, removed keys, but a low sound I've never continued for several minutes. After that, the car was completely dead. Dashboard won't light up, no working horn, power locks, windows, alarm. I now have no functioning vehicle and have no idea what caused my car to lose power while driving.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2019

Owner/driver found blacked out behind wheel in 55 mph highway in opposing traffic ditch. Driver ambulanced to hospital er. Dmv requires medical evaluation for continued driving privileges. 23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

11/15/19 originally the car showed brake, abs, antiskid and engine idiot lights went to the dealer with a code c1391. They said I need to replace the master cylinder and the power booster for $2600. Then they said it was policy to also replace the brake booster pump assembly for an additional $2,000 or a total of $4600. After I complained that they had recalled 972,000 other Prius but didn't include the Prius v they said I only needed to replace the master cylinder and power booster and said they would do it for $1,516. 89. So then I go to take the car to the service department today 12/4/19 and while sitting there the idiot lights all turn off and the brake start to function normally own its own. . . I ask the service representative what his thoughts were and he said I should still make the repairs, but he couldn't say what they would do it came back. So I'm going to drive the car for a week to see. While I'm waiting can you please do a recall on the brake pump assemebly since these folks dont even know what the heck is going on with this car. It appears its not either device and its a computer glitch that they haven't resolved. . . Help us Prius owners please!!!.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

My 2012 Prius v started showing the warning lights for brakes, abs, anti-skid and engine lights. This happened while driving on a regular road. Brakes still work but feel spongy. Scanned for codes and it says c1391 which requires replacing all the main brake components. The cost is over $3000 because so many parts involved. There's seems to have been a recall for other models of Prius but the v not included. Many v owners have experienced this problem. All the parts shown in the attached picture need to be replace cause Toyota doesn't know or can't figure out where the problem is. Car only has 68,000 miles on it.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2019

On June 5th, 2019, I took my car in to round rock Toyota and they performed the 2018 Toyota Prius v recall fix. Since then, my mpg has gone from an average of 41 miles per gallon, which has stayed consistent since I purchased the car brand new in June 2012, down to 32 mpg. I took the car back to round rock Toyota for a diagnosis on sept 30, 2019 and they said that they cannot find anything wrong, there are no error codes, and that my now greatly reduced 32 mpg fell within Toyota standards. I am writing to file a complaint that their 2018 recall for the Toyota Prius v has a problem and needs to be revisited or the vehicles should be taken off the road. I am CO-filing a complaint with the epa as well.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2019

On 09/19/2019 key west Toyota completed the tires change of my vehicle as I requested. In addition, key west Toyota performed "107649 j0v recall j0v01b 0. 70 update to the power management ecu with new software" as showing on the invoice. The following day, on Friday 09/20/2019, while I was driving the vehicle lost power and stalled in the middle of the traffic, putting my life and safety at risk and my heath and general well-being. I sent back the vehicle to key west Toyota, and since then the issue is unresolved, and I am not even able to reach anyone on the phone or through the email I sent from key west Toyota website "contact us".

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

The lining on the deflector rubber gasket/seal of the sunroof has been deteriorating. I have heard from many other Prius iii owners that this is a common defect for the 2010-2013 year models. I believe it if is this common, Toyota should be responsible for replacing it.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2019

Nhtsa recall #18v-684 I was driving on the street when cheq hibrid sistem sign came on, after I got this masage, I did drove for a while til stop on a safe place, when turning it back on with the break pedal pushed, the sistem did not get a ready light, which means able to move, so I called aaa (a towing service). We went to a west covina Toyota dealer. The service man manny told me it maybe is about the recall on this vehicle. When vehicle was ready manny told me on the phone that it was a loose wire and when I got at the dealer he show me a switch (not a wire) that it is imposible to unlock it by it self, it has to be move by a finger in order to unlock it or lock it back on, so my point is that I feel that they are telling me that just to charge me and I believe that they are making this up. I did talk to the manager gary kuftedjian, he got mad at me because I did not want to sit down and told me that I was no respecting him just becuase I did not have a sit, I told him that the issue with the vehicle was the need of the update ( the recall ) not the switch the they said so I told him that I did not have to pay for it and he told me that if I do not pay that I have to leave my vehicle an other day for them to cheq it againg and I said why if the vehicle is ready? and he said to cheq it up again, so I prefer to pay 139. 00 dollars and complain about it after. . . So I did a complain to the Toyota head quarters reference # 1906062556 I did speak with mrs. Beth . If you need more pictures please send me an email so I can send more evidence about this case . . . Thank you please call me if any as well . . 323 316 3429 my email is davidraulcamas@gmail. Com thank you david raul fuentes.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2019

The brake booster/acctuator has failed on my Prius at about 76000 miles and I bought it used with 35000 miles. I have found out that this has been an issue with Prius vehicles since 2006 and enhanced warranties have been issued on models from 2006 as well as 2010-2015. I have tried to call Toyota to have them fix the issue but they say that my vehicle isnt covered under the warranty for some reason. What they said was that my parts maker wasnt covered under the warranty but if its a problem that has been prevelant in other Prius vehicles, I dont understand why this wouldnt be covered regardless of who made the part. It has affected my braking randomly and has almost caused me to have an accident a couple times already. When diagnosed I got error code c1391 which was covered under the warranty enhancement letter I found yet Toyota will not fix my vehicle.

31 Equipment problem

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2018

I recently had a repair service done on my Prius plug-in, but can't in good conscious understand why I had to pay $756 to get into my car. I purchased my 2012 Toyota Prius plug-in in July, 2012. Three and a half years later, I had to have the driver's door lock actuator replaced @ 51k miles. Less than two and a half years later, the same driver's door lock actuator had to be replaced @ approximately 80k miles in addition to all three other door lock actuators. Roughly six months ago, the right, rear door lock stopped working. Then the left rear stopped working. Then the driver's door (which was noticed on my last service visit). And finally the passenger door lock. This car does not have a key to unlock the driver's door, only an electronic fob. As a result, I have been climbing though my rear hatch to reach the right rear door lock, to unlock that door, to then reach in to the right front door lock; at which point I can open the right front door and reach over to unlock the driver's side door. Not only is this ridiculous and embarrassing, as I've had to do this in front of CO-workers, and consultants I've had to drive to meetings with at my company, but it's incredibly dangerous. I won't have my daughter or wife drive the car, since they can't safely unlock or enter the car. So here I am, having spent $756 to be able to enter my car, since there is no key option, and in fact it's the second time in less than 30k miles to replace the driver's door lock actuator.
