Rodents chewed through majority of the wiring under the hood and build nests in the engine. This has happened twice and I have only owned the car for 5 months and cost me a lot of money for repairs which Toyota will not cover and said it is not their responsibility for using these soy based wires that attracts rodents.
I experienced sudden but momentary braking when traveling at high speed (> 50 mph) while either entering ro exiting hwy. This occurred twice in last two mons. I drove my car to closest dealership the 2nd time this happened (Nov. 21, 2105; waldorf MD Toyota), who told me they received an email (but no recall) from Toyota corporate about this issue. Dealership could not detect the problem or reproduce it so, as instructed by dealership, I called Toyota corporate Nov. 23, 2015 to get case number assigned. At one point, Toyota representative demanded "what do you want from Toyota?" case was 'escalated' but no case worker was assigned until Nov. 30, 2015. Toyota corporate stated that the technician had to reproduce the problem and if they cannot, there was no problem and dealership would return my car to me without repair. The dealership protested and said they ot required to reproduce the problem as it was an episodic and rare event. Further, they would not return my car to me until the problem was fixed because it was a safety issue. Waldorf Toyota still has my car (over two weeks now as today is Dec. 9, 2015). They have not received any further guidance but are waiting for the field technical specialist to examine the car. I finally received a call from customer relations at the regional office (central atlantic Toyota) to authorize access to the edr (electronic data recorder). This means over two weeks have passed before even the first step was taken by Toyota to diagnose the problem.
Privusv dimming rear view mirror. The mirror does not dim properly. The sensors seem to be in a location that the majority of the time does not pick up the lighting from the car behind. This is extremely distracting to the driver. I had the mirror replaced bot it had no effect on fixing the problem.
Car was in motion in a residential area, moving at a low speed, under 25mph. While in an undulating portion of the road, during entry and exit from a dip and slight turn in the road, the engine stalled for a brief moment, for no more than a second or so the accelerator was non-responsive, causing me to force a stop by using the brake, after which time the motor re-engaged as normal. Unknown cause, happened once in my experience with the car and never again. Car has been driven by my daughter for the last 3+ years, she has not reported a recurrence of the problem.
Since the vehicle was purchased, the odometer has been off by about 2 miles per hour at 65, and 3-4 miles per hour at 95. This means that the oboe get is recording 4% higher mileage than what is actually being driven. My car is not alone, many Prius v models have the same problem. Dealership did not have a solution. This not only voided my 100,000 mile warranty 3-4k miles early, but it makes the fuel economy look better on paper than it actually is- a selling point that Toyota takes advantage of. To me, this is just as bad as what Volkswagen did with their diesel vehicles.
After about 6 months a/c and cabin fan system smelled moldy, mildewy and very musty. Toyota service dept said all new models have the problem (!) and told me to just try to run the fan without a/c. Problem did not go away! at my 12 month check, I reported air quality moldly/mildew persists, and service rep reported that all new 2014 models do have the moldy/mildew cabin air quality problem and told me to always run the a/c and fan system with "outside air" coming in totry to clean it out. Problem did not go away. I looked online at "toyotanation. Com" forum and note that long term Toyota owners, who now have new 2014 models, are experienceing the problem for the 1st time! musty/mildewy/ moldy cabin air is definitely a health hazard, and Toyota should fix it or at least offer routine a/c and air system flushing service. Instead toyta service depts now have a charge of $175 to flush the very bad air quality in the new 2014 systems that they created! one person said he filed a complaint with NHTSA. I tried the same thing with an email on the NHTSA site. Now I am filing a more formal complaint. Hope this works! pls help. It is making me sick.
I frequently get a musty smell out of my vents that I have noticed from time of taking ownership. I was told at that time Toyota was aware of it and the solution was to take the system out of recirculate a few miles from home allowing outside fresher air in to remove the apparent moisture buildup. I tried to leave the system in the fresh air mode most of the time, but still experience this smell/odor. At my 10k service I brought this up again and was offered a 'goodwill' system cleaning and a charcoal filter. The mechanic performed the procedure (although I am not sure if it was for the recommended time frame, dash-cam inside vehicle caught the whole 10k service) the smell is still there and sometimes even overwhelmingly bad.
Toyota's entune navigation system randomly freezes and resets. When this happens at high speeds on a highway where a person is depending on the system to get somewhere, it causes a massive distraction and a risk to life and limb. Toyota is offering no resolution to this issue and it's dealerships are refusing to even register user complaints - "unless they can replicate the issue" which is rather difficult since the problem is random and the dealerships will not take user reports of the issue as credible.
I was pulling into a convenience store in my 2014 Prius. As I was gliding in, I depressed the break pedal and the car kept going. I continued to press it and the car started to accelerate, I could feel the surge of power. I was completely unable to stop the car and ran into parking posts at the front of the store. All airbags were deployed. I got a cut on my forehead, an ambulance came but I declined and my husband drove me to the er later where I received treatment. I was coming home from the gym at 9 am I have never been at fault in an accident before. I have a witness that said he heard a chirping sound coming from the breaks before I crashed. Toyota completely denies there is anything wrong with the car, but gives no explanation as to how this could have occurred. They will not help at all. Someone is going to get seriously injured or killed. This needs to be investigated by someone other than Toyota.

I have never been at fault in an auto accident before. I have a witness that said he heard a chirping sound coming from my brakes right before the crash. I have the pin drive from the car that a representative, supposedly from an outside source, that retrieved it. This is what Toyota used to conduct their "investigation" into the incident. They concluded that it was completely not thier fault, not indicating how it could have happened. They are not going to help at all. Someone other than Toyota needs to investigate this problem before someone else gets killed. ( I filed a previous complaint this morning but realized I had entered the VIN number wrong. This is the same complaint with the correct VIN number.
I purchased a 2014 Toyota Prius on may 31, 2014. Today 6/18/14 I found out there was a recall on this model vehicle. I called Toyota and I was informed the recall service had not been performed. I called a local dealer (different from the one where I purchased the vehicle) and they informed me that when they pulled the VIN, it showed stop sale in effect. I do not blame Toyota as obviously if one dealer could see the stop sale so could the other. I think that there should be stricter regulations on dealerships to make sure these recalls are completed before the sale!! just like the gentleman that complained earlier I also purchased a brand new defective vehicle, how can this happen several months after the recall. !! now I have to take the time off to take it in to have the recall fixed. This is a major inconvenience, loss of use of vehicle and loss of time from work. I also want to know how to get compensated for the inconvenience and time, plus the fact they sold and I have been driving an unsafe vehicle.
Cars av smells like mold av condenser clogged smell get worse as time goes on car is unbearable to drive now.
