2 Battery Dead problem of the 2014 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 06/03/2018

takata recall I believe there is a major problem with Toyota Prius v they make it only for five years, they stop making it after 2016 because they realize there is so much problems in the engine, many car this model the engine get in fires, head gasket had to be replaced at 125,000 mile. Hybrid battery it go bad at 120,000 miles where is most Prius hybrid battery go for 250,000 mile minimum. My Prius be in gin GA on fire because there is a piece of metal from the engine fell down in the engin block and the engine break down with a big hole and most of the engine oil came down in to the muffler and my car got on fire. And that's happened I was driving on the freeway and there is no check engine light came on as a warning when that piece of metal from the valve lifter I believe fill down in to the block.

3 Battery Dead problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 02/15/2018

Defective engine required replacement prior to 139k miles (due to cylinder malfunction and excessive oil consumption), at a cost of $3700 for a used one. This has also damaged the catalytic converter, quoted at $900. At 149k miles, the hybrid battery has failed as well, which has a quoted replacement cost of $2400. While slightly outside of warranty, the engine and hybrid battery are both core components that are expected to last significantly longer. In carb states, Toyota even warrants the hybrid battery for 150k miles. The cost of replacing them exceeds the kbb value of the car, which is unacceptable for a 10 year old vehicle with average mileage that was properly maintained. I contacted both the dealership and manufacturer, and neither will accept any ownership in the matter, or provide assistance on repair costs.

5 Battery Dead problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/14/2015

I was driving 50mph when the car lost power. The car suddenly had no power brakes, no ability to easily steer, no engine power and many warning lights came on including an warning that the main hybrid battery was not charging. The car would not respond to acceleration. The car came to a stop. I held the start button the car shut off. The car restarted with no problems. All the warning lights were off. I put the car in drive and started to accelerate. All the warning lights come on just as before and the car suffers the same issues again. I went through the same process of turning the car off and turning it back on. The car started up again with no problems again, all the lights were off. It failed on more time on the trip home. I was able to restart the car and put my emergency lights on. I never drove over 25mph on the trip back to the house. My family took the car to wilson Toyota in bellingham wa. They examined the car and said the 12v battery had failed. They told my family that the main 12v battery runs all the electrical to get the car started and running. We told the dealer the car still had electrical power. They still replaced the 12v battery. The following day my family went to look at the car and a service person at the dealer, who said he was new to this location, said he had noticed that the 12v battery had seemed to be replaced recently. They said they would keep the car to keep looking over its systems. On 4/16/2015 my family called Toyota to discuss our safety concerns with regard to how the car failed. We explained we also have a 2007 Prius that had the main hybrid battery fail and that all the warning lights that came on were similar in both cars. The dealer has said there are no codes that said the main hybrid battery is failing. I am worried that I or my family could be seriously injured if the car failed in this manner again while on a busy highway or intersection.

6 Battery Dead problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/09/2014

Hybrid battery failed. The battery is hyped as lasting the lifetime of your car. 7 years and 131k is not a lifetime in my opinion. If I lived or bought my car in CA, it would be covered under warranty. Because I live in alabama, it is not. Warranty should be standardized.

7 Battery Dead problem of the 2006 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 01/17/2014

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the engine and had the vehicle towed to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The dealer stated that the battery was dead and replaced the battery. The failure mileage was 160,000. The VIN was not available.

8 Battery Dead problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

After driving for about 500 miles the car was parked in the garage for two days. When I tried to start the car the 12v battery was dead. I used 3 different batteries to try to start the car. The lights came on on the dash but there was a warning message that there was a problem with the transmission and needed to put the car on a level surface which it already was, and the transmission would not come out of park and the motor would not start. The car could not be moved. When a new battery was installed the car resumed working fine. If the dead battery had happened when we were stopped on i81 because of construction, we would have been stuck in the fast lane with no way to move the car out of the travel lane until a tow truck arrived.

9 Battery Dead problem of the 2005 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 02/05/2011

My Toyota Prius 2005 model had repeated and total failures when the 12 volpt sli battery was low, or in cold weather. The desigtgtn logic is very bad: when the sli battery fails, the back doors and trunk could not be unlocked, so I could not get my jumper cables out since all electrical controls failed. The car could not be towed from behind when parked, not to damage the synergy drive (apparently). I was told to buy a trickle charger since the sli battery died a few times while the Prius was garaged for more than a week. The Toyota sli battery is specialized, small and the contacts are too small to grab with normal jumper cables. There are too many single point failures initiated by a discharged battery. When my remote key battery died, I was totally locked out of the car. Mechanical backup options are needed for all these electrical and electronic controls.

10 Battery Dead problem of the 2009 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) several electronic malfunctions, all occurring when my blue tooth is connected. Some inadequately shielded wiring or connector(s) could account for this. I saw in the congressional testimony by a lady in a Lexus used her blue tooth connection to call her husband during the 6 minutes of struggle to stop her car's out of control acceleration by various methods including both feet onn the brake. I have a 2009 Toyota Prius that the dealer says is working "normal. " these events have not been normal, and on one occasion my energy screen that was doing wierd things actually changed to the speed dial screen. In another incident, (Smart key feature is disabled because it drains the battery) I locked the car with my key fob as usual, and when I returned could not unlock it that way and had to dig out the "key" to open the door so I could start the car. My battery has died 3 times and was finally replaced. I bought this Prius touring March 26, 2009. The dealer has no idea of what's going on, only tells me the car is "normal. " I suspect something so simple as shielding from the weak blue tooth signal could well be causing a variety of problems, probably depending on where the faulty wiring is located. If nobody is investigating this, iit is a mistake!. [xxx].

11 Battery Dead problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 06/08/2009

2007 Toyota Prius with 47k miles. It lost power while driving on the highway. The car barely made it to the side of the road. After a little while, it restarted. The warning lights indicated there was no gas but the tank was full. The screen also showed that the battery was dead. This is the second time this happened. The dealer says the car checks out.

12 Battery Dead problem of the 2006 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

Several battery cells malfunctioned in the battery. Battery was under warranty, got a free new battery. Not sure what caused the battery failure.

13 Battery Dead problem of the 2006 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/10/2009

My Toyota Prius 2006 accelerated on its own. I called service and was told to drive to nearest dealer. But acceleration was scary out of my control other than by fierce braking. I have no idea how fast I was going, but had to put something in the box so I put 80mph. I stopped as soon as I could safely and where I could get signal to call (being in the country). As soon as I stopped the brake pads burnt up. I had to tick something on the "complaint type" but none of the categories quite fit. I was told that this occurred because of oem battery failure causing this problem. . It was time for service but otherwise had no indication the battery was low. I accepted this and paid the $903. 42 bill for new battery, brakes. This probably also included a regular basic service and oil change. Now I wonder if this is a part of a larger picture. And what indication could there be so this doesn't happen again. I was very fortunate that this was all that happened and that I was on an empty country road at the time. Thanks for listening.

14 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

Hv battery failure, prior to failure of hv battery vehicle exhibited error codes indicating that at least two battery modules had a greater than 1. 2 volts between max module voltage and min module voltage (hv battery consist of 38 battery modules 7. 2 volts each). However, vehicle still operated although in a fail safe mode (no cruise control in fail safe mode, etc). Upon attempting to start vehicle heard loud explosive pop sound and vehicle would then not start. After removal and disassembly the hv battery pack I discovered tha two battery modules, out of the total of 38, had a circular burn between their ajoining plastic cases and the top of one of the two modules had exploded open -- exposing the battery plates inside (both burned cells no longer measured 7. 2 volts, but about 0. 32 volts). Burnt smoke residue showed on top of the hv battery pack inside metal housing as well as on the one battery module that had an exploded top. I replaced the hv battery pack no further error codes have been noted since replacement. Damaged modules showed evidence of an explosive force occurring and burning or shorting between battery modules.

15 Battery Dead problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 08/20/2007

2007 Toyota Prius. Consumer states vehicle is a lemon. The consumer stated she had numerous problems with the vehicle. The battery was dead, but tested good, the touch screen display was inoperable due to a loose connection at the rear of the multi display/ hatch area. A short wire was found. The battery died five more times due to a short. The headlight bulbs had to be replaced, due to them going out after driving for an hour. The hid module had an intermittent short.

16 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 06/04/2007

Auxiliary battery on Toyota Prius 2001 and Toyota Prius 2004 fail if the car is not driven at least every 7-10 days. This prevents the car from starting. We purchased a 2001 Prius used March 2004, and a new 2004 Prius in June 2004. The auxiliary battery failed on the 2001 Prius twice, and we replaced it once. Recently the dealer service rep told us that it is a known problem that the battery will not hold a charge unless driven every 7-10 days, and should be "disconnected" if parked for "prolonged time. " this is potential safety problem for car not starting, such as if returning on plane after 2-3 week vacation and not being able to start the car, risk for vulnerability awaiting jump start. Toyota's only response is "well, it's a hybrid. " they say the "hundreds of computers in the car drain the battery when parked. " they could have designed in some automatic or simple switch to address this. They also could notify the potential customer of this design flaw. They did not inform us, or any of the other Prius owners we have recently discussed the issue with. The owner's manual for 2001 model makes no mention of it. In the 2004 manual, there is a brief mention of need to disconnect the battery if parked for "prolonged time" but does not define that. Although we have been happy with other features of the Prius and other toyot as we owned in the past, we consider this to be a serious and risky design flaw. Furthermore, we consider Toyota's sales people and sales brochures failure to notify us of this problem to be a significant breach of goodwill and respect for customer safety and satisfaction.

18 Battery Dead problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/07/2007

Indicator lights flashed. Malfunction indicator lamp stayed on. At 2,644 miles, 12 v. Battery dead & replaced. I was told to keep the gas tank half or a quarter full or the reserve gas tank would cause the car to run on battery. The battery might have died because the car sat too long before it was sold/at 8,879 miles, I went in. After filling the gas tank & taking out the nozzle, gas spewed & bubbled out. The car stalled while driving slowly & while in park. Indicator lights flashed. The malfunction indicator lamp and master warning lights stayed on. It took 5 min. To turn off the car. I started the car. Those lights stayed on. I was told I left the "trunk door" open & ran down the battery. (not true. ) there is a gasket around the access hole and if a person "is a little bit off," the gas will regurgitate. (I was not " off" & did not top off the tank. ) they reprogrammed the computer. The gas tank had not been filled so I knew they did not fill the gas tank and try to recreate the situation as they said they would. I bought gas at a different pump. I stopped at a stop light. I could feel a loss of power in the car. When I pushed the gas pedal, the car would not move. I turned the car off and on 3 times before it would move. It crept slowly through the intersection as the traffic signal turned red. I took the car in at 8,936 miles. I was told if my problem is associated with the battery that was taken out of my car, it is not at repair person's responsibility because he did not touch my battery. When a battery is disconnected for a certain amount of time, if something is not reset, it could cause problems. Then, he said no trouble found/my car stalled and/or had a loss of power. I took it in at 9,014 miles. No trouble found. I was told that my problems could have been caused by a faulty gas pump overfilling my tank. The gas station is new. The manager said the pumps were inspected. If there were a faulty pump, everyone would have problems.

19 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 06/15/2006

On June 6, 2006 I took our 2001 Toyota Prius to a local Toyota dealer because it had been losing power while driving. The Prius mechanic told me that it was "normal" and that there was "nothing wrong. " I responded that I knew that something was wrong with the vehicle. On June 15, 2006 on the way into work, the car completely lost power while driving on the interstate. Fortunately, we were able to pull over at a relatively safe spot. Had it stalled in heavier traffic or in a different lane, we could have died there. The screen showed "main battery failure," and the car wouldn't move. I had it towed to the dealer. The technician tested it and the only code shown was an "accelerator assembly pedal. " neither I nor the technician felt that this was the problem; the technician felt that the problem is in the inverter--the part that cycles power back and forth between gas and electric. However, Toyota regional refused to replace the inverter, saying "we are not just going to throw parts at the problem trying to solve it. " I was told by the dealer that I would have to replace the accelerator assembly pedal at my expense, even though that will likely not resolve the problem, because Toyota "will not do anything else unless you do. " this type of powering down and stopping is a known issue with Toyota Prius cars, more so with 2004-05 (for which an NHTSA investigation has been opened), but also with 2001-03. There were fewer of the 2001-03 cars on the road, so the number of reported instances is less, but the internet contains many complaints from Toyota Prius owners regarding this issue. This is a very serious safety issue. As Prius cars age, this safety defect will become increasing apparent and hazardous.

24 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Toyota Prius

After sitting for as many as 2 days without driving, there is a battery failure. This has occurred on numerous occasions (8-10 times), and the dealer has sent a tow truck out to either start the car or tow the car into the dealership. At one point, the car was in the dealership for 3 weeks while they worked on solving the problem. They have put in several new batteries, but the problem continues. The latest occasion was this past week (October, 2002). I was without the car for 3 days. No problems were found at the dealership except for battery failure. In the past the dealership has provided me with a battery charger, but the battery charger is currently not working properly. Dt.
