While slowing and pulling into a parking space, in front of the dentist office where my wife had an appointment, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. It jumped the curb, and she steered hard right to avoid the building directly in front OH the parking space. She sideswiped the front of 2 vehicles parked next to the space she was moving into, and the car continued toward the street. It hit the curb going out of the parking lot and the car finally stopped. A person came to the drivers side of the car and asked my wife if she was ok, and said she should turn the car off - which she did.

Spontaneous acceleration incident. I was slowly pulling into a parking space in a parking garage. As I straightened it out to complete the maneuver, the car took off on its own and hit the wall of the parking garage there was some damage to the front end. A similar incident occurred once before with no damage. Toyota has had recalls in prior years for this problem - broken throttle return switch - but they insist this isn't the problem here. Essentially they are claiming this didn't happen, that what I experienced with the car just taking off on its own didn't happen. The car isn't safe to drive without getting this repaired, but they claim it doesn't need repair. In their response letter, Toyota said, "the event data recorder (edr) recorded that there was accelerator pedal application and no brake application leading up to the impact. " of course there was no brake application, there was no time to apply the brake! the car took off like a bat out of hell and rammed into the wall in 2-3 seconds! this is not only a danger for me and my car but could be for other Prius owners as well. I have a youtube video on how to do the repair but I can not upload it here.

I had an sua (sudden unintended acceleration). I drove up an incline into the "driveway" of the holiday in in downtown san diego, pulled up into a small circular area/driveway where you can register for your room or pick up or drop off people. My foot was on the brake, I was stopping the car to pick up my daughter and her boyfriend. And the car took off on it's own. I tried desperately to use the brakes, but they wouldn't work, so I kept driving around the circular driveway to keep control of the car while I kept trying to stop the car to no avail. The car kept accelerating and screeching around the driveway and then I finally lost control and the car hit a wall to my right, then moved a bit forward and bumped into a curb on the left and finally stopped. My other daughter was in the passenger seat. We were both terrified! I contacted Toyota and from the time of the accident (10/28/19) to the time I was able to talk with a person in their claims dept or rather receive an email response, it was 64 days later (10/31/19). And that is only because I called them. I talked to several case managers on different days who seemed unhelpful until finally one of them got in touch with the claims department and told me they would call me. Toyota will not take any responsibility for this and I am really upset that now I will have an accident on my record and my insurance will increase significantly for something that isn't even my fault! I am an excellent driver and have never had an accident that was my fault. I was alert and coherent as was obvious to all of the people I spoke to directly after the accident. My daughter, in the passenger seat, witnessed all of my attempts to use the brakes to stop the car.

I started my car, put it in drive and began to make a u turn out of a parking lot when it suddenly accelerated on its own. I had three turns I had to make in quick succession (u turn, left on public driveway, right on main road) to get on to the main road, and I did this at break neck speed. By the second turn I was giving all my strength to trying to get the brake to work, unsuccessfully (locked), and was fully focussed on turning the car safely to save my life at such high speed. My tires squealed on the third turn and my cell phone flew through the air. I could not make a tight right turn so made my turn in to the left lane (proud of my driving success given the speed). Once I navigated the turns the car slowed down and brakes worked as normal. This all happened in around 20 seconds I'd guess, and less than 1/4 mile I think. Just fortunate there were no cars coming in either direction. I am alive to tell this story. I had the car towed to a dealer and am awaiting to hear what the have to say. I am petrified at the thought of getting back in to that car.
I was slowly ( < 5mph) approaching a stoplight at a busy intersection in a 25 mph zone on a 4 lane street there were 2 vehicles ahead of me. Everything seemed fine until my vehicle suddenly accelerated rapidly and I was unable to stop it. The path of least resistance was to drive it into the car in front of me and not to swerve. Once I had stopped and caught my breath, I put the car into reverse to back away from the car I had hit, and once again the car rapidly accelerated backward into the car behind me. Until this time I have had absolutely no problems with the vehicle. It only has been driven 14,500 miles.
The contact owned a 2015 Toyota Prius v hybrid. While the vehicle was stationary, the contact shifted into reverse and the vehicle accelerated rapidly between 5-10 mph. The speed increased to 20 mph and the vehicle crashed into a fence. The contact applied significant pressure to the brake pedal during the failure, but the vehicle did not stop. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained minor soreness from the impact of the crash, which did not require medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop and deemed destroyed. Steve landers Toyota (10825 colonel glenn road, little rock, arkansas 72204) was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approxiately 59,100. The VIN was not available.

As I was pulling into a space in front of my school, and had my foot on the accelerator, going less than five miles per hour, the car suddenly accelerated at great speed, crashing into a stairwell and stair railing. The car engine suddenly revved up and sped ahead; then I went to put my foot on the brake, but the car revved again, and slammed further into the railing. I was alone in the car, but now my insurance is trying to claim "my fault", when the car accelerated on its own. There was no floor mat being stuck, etc. Issue. This is a known issue with Toyota and unintended acceleration with prior regular Toyota Prius year models. I am still awaiting an insurance inspection etc. The repair estimate hasn't begun.

Sudden unintended acceleration. 2014 Prius was parked for a few days in hot, humid weather. When pulling the car into the driveway at a low speed, the car suddenly accelerated to a velocity fast enough to collide with an SUV parked in the driveway, knocking it through a metal fence and into the backyard. It also caused the driver of the Prius whiplash and a head injury. The brake pedal was depressed as the car accelerated. We believe that the car only stopped accelerating when the radiator was pushed into the engine by the impact with the bumper of the SUV.

My Prius suddenly accelerated today. My wife was not in an accident. My VIN is jtdkn3du7a0205812. I spoke with my wife and the incident occurred up a hill when she was parking (deaccelerating), she didn't notice that the floor mat was not stuck at the time and there was no warning of a problem. Also, this has not happened before. Vehicle was going up a hill on a city street, no ice, going strait, no damage to the car, unknown to what failed.

(missing dealer info) tl the contact owned a 2010 Toyota Prius. While parking the vehicle, it unexpectedly accelerated and struck another vehicle before crashing into an apartment unit. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was called and provided the contact with an investigator who removed a box from the vehicle, which would determine if the failure was due to driver error or a safety defect. The manufacturer determined that it was driver error. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

While backing slowly into a parking spot of an inner city supermarket in a busy residential area the car suddenly accelerated. It went over a 1 ft concrete curb limiter into the street and after a 180 degree loop in reverse I finally hit the e-brake hard while at the same time I ran over a pedestrian traffic light and hit a tree with the rear passenger side to a full stop. Air bags did not deploy. During all this period of probably less than 10 seconds the foot brake was not responding any more. After impact the engine did not start anymore and the car was towed from the scene.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that the vehicle independently accelerated while pulling into a parking space with the brake pedal applied. The contact applied extreme force and the vehicle continued to unintendedly accelerate to a high rate of speed. The vehicle turned to the right and the vehicle crashed into a trash dumpster. The drive and the front passenger did not not sustain any injuries from the crash other than whip lash. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealers collision center who repaired the body damages and was to send a third party to investigate the safety concern to determine the failure. The contact was waiting on the dealer and the manufacturer to determine the remedy to repair the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000. Dyd.
My wife maggie reyes had a serious accident in the parking lot of the victorian on main st in santa monica on Wednesday September 2. From standstill, her 2006 Prius suddenly accelerated to a very high rate on its own and the car's brakes were completely non-responsive. In this relatively confined parking area, after a frightening period of trying to regain control of the vehicle, she made a split-second decision to crash into a tree at a relatively high speed in order to avoid steering the car onto main st. And causing a much more serious accident that would have impacted many people, automobiles and public and private property and possibly resulted in multiple deaths and multiple serious injuries. She sustained a broken foot. Her passenger sustained bruising. Both were taken by ambulance to st. John's hospital. Both airbags deployed. The 2 occupants were wearing seat belts. As a result, and only because of maggie's quick thinking and potentially sacrificial action, maggie, her passenger and many other non-suspecting people are alive today. It is apparently well-established that the Prius can accelerate in this manner. In this case, the circumstances would appear to be straight forward: a car parked in a parking lot and started suddenly accelerates on it's own and refuses to allow the driver control.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that driving the vehicle into their garage the vehicle experienced a brief period of unintended acceleration which resulted in a crash in the garage. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Prior to this failure the vehicle experiened a simular failure in 2012. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79626. Kh.
I was inching into a grocery store parking spot in my new, perfectly maintained 2015 Toyota Prius when I experienced unintended acceleration. My vehicle shot forward and in a second had crashed over a cement curb, through a flower bed, and was stopped - despite my desperately jamming the brake - only by smashing into a brick wall. The suspension and steering on the car is now severely damaged, and the car cannot be driven. I am horrified: I could have been seriously injured and worse, hit/hurt another person (or at the very least severely damaged property). What if I had chosen a parking spot in front of a group of children?!! they cloud have been killed! the car is now at a Toyota service center waiting for Toyota corporate to "decide" if a car accelerating into a brick wall of its accord is a "design flaw" that it will pay to fix. I believe that what may have happened is that the computer system that controls the throttle/acceleration experienced a software bug which threw the car forward. In fact, Toyota was forced pay out over one billion dollars in fines last year (2014) by the us government for this exact issue - but apparently it didn't fix its 2015 line b/f letting it go to market. I purchased the Toyota Prius because it was received top safety and reliability ratings. Only now do I learn Toyota has a history of hiding unintended acceleration bugs in its car designs for years - and blaming owners for its recklessly unsafe and thereby unethical auto designs (no, this wasn't caused by a stuck floor mat). I am furious. No one can afford to be blamed for vehicular manslaughter due to manufacturer negligence. Even if Toyota claims to have fixed my Prius, its word clearly means nothing and I do not trust the company. I will be getting rid of the car ASAP and searching for a safer model.

When the vehicle hits a bump, rock or uneven road while decelerating, the vehicle suddenly accelerates. It feels like when you skip a step. I have had the vehicle since December 2012 and this has happened enough times that I do not think its fortuitous. The sudden acceleration makes the car travel a couple of feet. Updated 12/5/2014.

It actually happened two times within a month. In one case, I was turning left to take a ramp with a very low speed around 5 mph. Even though some parts of the road was icy, but the car didn't slip. It was exactly a several sudden pushes, unintended acceleration, with my foot on the brake only. I was so scared because I couldn't control the car for few seconds, and I thought I totally lost the control of the car. I tried to steer the car safely and turn on my emergency light. Checked the brake again, it was working after that. The second time, happened to me when I was coming out of school parking and didn't have any speed at all. Again around 5 mph. School is located in residential area. When you get out of the parking, you can only turn right, then there is an intersection with a stop sign almost 50 feet away. On the day of incident, I tried to stop behind the stop sign with no speed at all, but suddenly the car got the same continuous and sudden pushes. It was accelerated unintendedly. My foot was completely on the brake, but I lost the control again, and I was so lucky that day that there were no cars around the intersection, I tried to steer the car to the left, turned on my emergency light, and tried to push the brake again and again. After few seconds, I found it working. I called the Toyota the same day, and they are in the process of scheduling me for inspection. Again, even though the surface was slick with ice, but I didn't have speed, and it didn't look like abs is working. I exactly know how abs works, specially when it is snowy or icy. This is very scary. Please investigate. Thanks.
2012 Toyota Prius. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden acceleration. The consumer stated as he entered a parking lot and turned to go down an aisle, he hit the curb too closely and the vehicle accelerated at an incredible speed. He put his foot on the brake and it went to the floor; he tried to turn the power off, but the vehicle did not stop. At the rate the vehicle accelerated, he passed by 2 parking aisles and was stopped by hitting a parked vehicle, which the force of his vehicle was pushed under a fence and onto a railroad track. The vehicle was badly damaged because the emergency brake was on and the impact destroyed the transmission. The dealership reviewed the computer data and concluded the vehicle did not accelerate on its own. They implied his foot was on the accelerator and not the brake.
