37 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 08/12/2019

My 2011 Prius very recently has started making audibly noise while pressing the brake pedal, whether in motion or stopped. This noise contains continuous whirring, whining and loud clicking noise. These noises where not seen before completely. I spoke to dealer mentioning a TSB pertaining to this particular issue in specific and was told nothing can be done until it fails completely, which is bad, as I have a family of 3 and god forbid if this were to happen while driving on freeway, a serious safety hazard and Toyota dealer (rudy luther) response is irresponsible. I am actually worried more now on waiting for the brakes to fail. This loud continuous clicking noises occurs the moment car is turned on and the noises lingers on for short while after the car is turned off, at moments I have to press on the brakes really harder than usual to get the car slowed and is a tremendous panicky situation. I am registering and requesting for this to be looked immediately before any catastrophe.

39 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 06/14/2019

Even though the breaks seem fine, the electric break system does work at all. All lights are on and the breaks pedals feels loose. When I push the breaks the vehicle keeps going. The abs warning light is on as well as all the other lights regarding to breaks and stability mechanisms.

40 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 05/24/2019

Second generation Toyota Prius (model years 04-09, an estimated 669,700 vehicles, Toyota highlander 06 ~66,200 vehicles (and Lexus models~196,000 vehicles) have a known defective brake power booster known as brake actuator assembly. Toyota published TSB 0032-16. The brakes fail. Toyota denied to remove the known faulty part in 2016 because the part had not established symptoms yet and vehicle was over 175,000 miles. 5/24/2019 while in motion on interstate 77, the yellow anti-lock brake system abs, the electronic variable speed control vsc (traction) , the electronic controlled brake alert lamps illuminate. The hybrid propulsion system fails because the power brakes do not regenerate electricity to charge the hybrid battery fuel cells. Turning the hybrid vehicle into a plain gas powered vehicle with faulty brakes. The power brake system creates a thumping vibration sound due to the pressure inside the actuator is not retaining/holding pressure. I asked local o'reily's to scan vehicle, reading codes brake actuator failure. Reported to Toyota dealership 5/30/2019 with yellow warning lamps engaged and with knowledge of codes. Charged $150. 09 to verify codes that I retrieved in 3 minutes and estimate $2938. 47 to replace known faulty part. I contacted Toyota national -1906030924. Toyota needs to own this recall. Recall the faulty part known to fail in 2016. Toyota aware of part failure, to such extent, Toyota discontinued this brake actuator and redesigned for generation 3 2010-. Toyota has updated the replacement part with new part #s. How many vehicles are currently on highways with this known faulty system, endangering all vehicles in proximity? this is a national issue. A safety issue. Needs immediate attention, please. I purchased new updated part, drove to tampa, florida to have installed by professional installer.

41 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 05/12/2019

If I drive on the expressway or around town and I'm driving a half hour sometimes less my car makes a loud buzzing noise and my instrument panel the hazard lights go on and I lose my brakes. This was very scary. Thank goodness I wasn't going to fast toward the light and didn't hit anyone. I'm scared to drive the car because it does this all the time if I'm driving for a period of time 1/2 hour or more. My vehicle was on city street and on highway. I was in motion. On the highway 70mph and on city streets 35/40 mph.

42 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

Well I was driving and suddenly my car battery turned off and check hybrid system came on the dashboard it stopped so I parked it on side and unplug battery wires so it start working again the weird thing is that when I check to see any code but nothing came recently it was happening and one recall came for hybrid battery after that it was working fine but now this thing happened again and it was dangerous because I was in the middle of highway and car stopped.

43 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/17/2019

2013 Prius, mileage 29,409. Car in motion driving on city streets. While breaking on uneven roads/potholes, the car skids and front wheels lock up and traction control/break assist light appears on the dashboard. When this occurs the car is dangerously slow to break and takes far too long to stop. This happens almost daily on my commute to work in both dry and wet conditions. This seems to be an issue with the breaking/stability system.

44 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/16/2019

While driving on the highway the abs, vsc, and (!) lights came on. The brake pedal became hard, and I had to push incredibly hard to slow the vehicle. After having the codes read and resetting the abs, vsc, (!) lights, the brakes worked again until the lights came on again after about 50 miles. The codes have read "accumulator pressure fault".

45 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/31/2019

Car began to display incoherent dash icon and alerts. We parked and had a tow service deliver our vehicle to town & country Toyota, south blvd, charlotte nc. There they told us it needed alternately a $1,500 repair, a $350 repair and finally a $100 repair, none of which the service salesman could describe or explain. When we mentioned the symptoms were identical to the "hybrid system/failsafe driving mode" recall notice he was evasive and said that we were too late for the recall. We didn't think it was possible to be too late for a safety recall, especially one that landed in the last week. After two (2) 20 minute waits on hold calling the Toyota customer experience center, we were told nothing of value, except we could choose to go back to the same dealer and ask for someone different, or we could go to a different dealership (I am not making this stuff up. . . !) we are at a loss; is this a safety concern or not? Toyota and the dealer do not act like it's very important to them. Is it possible for your enforcement powers to move this process towards a result that might entail additional safety. . ?.

46 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/30/2019

Brakes went completely out and emergency noise was beeping loudly in car. Talk to mechanic and he said brake actuator is bad and there was a recall but Toyota won't acknowledge and repair.

47 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

The car starts as normal and drives normally but once you start to come to a stop the car shuts off and will only restart when you depress the gas pedal but shuts down again when you release the gas pedal, normal city streets and highway.

48 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 02/28/2019

VIN # : (xxxx) on February 26, 2019, I asked autonation tyota buena park ( auto nation) to update the software and replace the invert assembly as per the recall notice letter from autonation. Also, I explained that my car's inverter and engine coolant were replaced on November 19, 2015 with showing the invoice of dch Toyota of simi valley and I had same overheating problem as before in summer 2018. On February 27, 2019, autonation emailed me as per the attached copy here that the Toyota representative came to autonation and did not approve repair or replacement due to high mileage (218,542) of my car. On februry 28, I picked my car but I will drive after receipt of Toyota's confirmation that vehicle is safe I believe that the inverter assembly should be replaced regardless of mileage for motor vehicle safety if my car has experienced inverter failure. Also, I filed my complain with national traffic and motor vehicle safety department. 54 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 12/12/2018

Toyota sent the extended warranty notice on the combination meter to the wrong address; therefore, I could not "connect the dots" regarding my dashboard blackout--meaning I thought it was quirky, not a documented problem with the combination meter. My 2007 Prius with only 35,000 miles on it needs a replacement combination meter but Toyota will not pay for it--claiming it provided an extended warranty. My response so what? I am driving a dangerous vehicle which does not indicate the speed I'm driving, the gas supply, the warning lights, and backup camera. I have had the requisite services over the years and the problem is clearly a defect in Toyota's manufacturing and supply chain. If Toyota really cares about the customer, why won't Toyota take responsibility for the failing part and repair my perilous vehicle? the situation is dangerous! I can't lock the car, know for sure when it is turned off, see the warning lights, know if the airbag alert is legit--non-functional all. To replace the failed part will cost near $1000, my monthly social security. Think about this pricetag, Toyota headquarters and local dealerships. My safety is severely jeopardized. Please work to recall these impacted vehicles. That my Prius has been serviced every single year according to schedule, that this mysterious dark screen has been popping up for years, and that Toyota sent the notice of extended warranty to the wrong address should demonstrate where the culpability lies. Toyota should take ownership of this dangerous situation and fix all the defective vehicles--behavior which demonstrates the company truly cares about its customers!.

55 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 12/03/2018

Car stalls out and won't accelerate.

56 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/29/2018

Driving vehicle down highway, tapped brakes but brakes did not work, all the lights on my dash lit up. I lost traction in brakes causing vehicle to lose control.

57 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2004 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/21/2018

(combination meter problem) while driving at night on the freeway the entire instrument panel (dash board) started blinking on and off. For our safety, we decided to slow down and exit the freeway and stop in a safe area. We turned the ignition off, then started the car, with nothing appearing on the instrument panel beside the check engine light. We lost the speedometer, all gauges and all the electrical and electronics which normally helps to guide our driving. We had to take the car to the Toyota dealer the following morning which took seven days to replace the combo meter. I later found out that this issue is not knew and there was a letter issued by Toyota titled (2004 to certain 2009 model year Prius vehicles combination meter warranty enhancement notice). The letter stated that they had problems with some of these Prius year models and that if the owner did not experience this condition to file the letter in their vehicle's owner's warranty information booklet. Here is my request: this should not be a warranty issue but should have been a safety recall as depending of the number of miles the vehicle is driven, this issue seems to sooner or later occur. I repaired my vehicle and paid for all the repairs, all I need now is for the NHTSA to look into this problem, investigate it and have Toyota send a recall letter rather than an extended warranty. This way I can receive a reimbursement for the repairs. . Read more...

58 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

The edr report clearly showed that the brake oil pressure changes did not correlate with the progressively increasing vehicle deceleration. The issue is occasional, rare and cannot be reproduced every single time. This leads to disparity in assumed braking distance from routine experience by driving the vehicle and actual braking distance at the time of failed braking which supposedly may be as a result of inverter issues that are responsible for exclusively regenerative braking at low (<50 mph) speeds.

59 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

The car brakes failed at low speeds (10-15 mph) and bumped into the car in front in a stop-and-go traffic on the wet freeway after a recent rain. The brake pedal went all the way down to touch the floor, as if the brake pedal was disengaged from the braking system and the abs light did not turn on at the time of braking. The car was driving in the straight line and immediately before this I was able to successfully brake the car on the very same trip. So the problem is intermittent. This is the second time with this car, as my spouse also experienced the similar brake failure at even lower speeds (<10 mph) resulting in touching the car in front and minor scratch on the bumper. It was a dry day then and almost similar circumstances. Associated geico claim number is 0423477190101054. We opened a case with Toyota to check the data recorder. Associated Toyota case number is 181112370.

60 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

On Friday, November 2, 2018. The brake light and lights for abs and vsc came on, I brought it on to a Toyota dealership service center. He immediately told me without inspecting it that it would be a very costly repair. I received a phone call after they ran diagnostic test and he confirmed it was the abs actuator that needed replacements at a cost of $2500. And then told me that there was a warranty enhancement but that it expired in June of 2018. The tech also told me that it was no help to call Toyota to request repair because they would not be willing to do it. There seems to be so many Toyota Prius owners who are stuck because Toyota is unwilling to repair the issue with the actuator and should do regardless of the limit on warranty or just lift the limit on the warranty. My vehicle only has 100k and I should not have to be paying $2500 to replace a faulty part on the car that Toyota is fully aware of.

61 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/28/2018

Brake accentuator failed - no warning and traction control/brake light/abs warning lights all illuminated. Hard breaking test @25 mph confirms abs not working (I. E. Tires skid) and breaking distance adversely impacted for normal braking. Hybrid system charging from braking is diminished.

62 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

Got in car one morning and all the brake / traction control system related lights are on. Turned car off, waited 10 minutes restarted car and lights are still on. Tested brake function in yard, reduced but still able to get car stopped. Took it to shop and read codes, came back as the actuator which is already recalled on previous year model pruis', obviously they did not fix the issue on the early gen 3 models (2010 & 2011). I have found multiple other people with gen-3's that have had the same issue os these should be included in the gen-2 recall because they are having the same issue. With it being a dealer only part at $4500-$5000 (parts and labor) to fix on a car that's only worth about $10,000 I wonder if it's really worth fixing. At this point the car is parked because with the diminished braking performance I don't feel safe driving it.

63 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/20/2018

The traction control, abs light and warning light all came which I believe all to be a safety issue.

64 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/12/2018

Driving on city street while very rainy outside, drove through a puddle and felt the brakes loosen, all the warning lights came on and wouldn't turn off. Anti-lock breaking system was offline. Took to Toyota dealership, mechanics said the abs is not communicating with the computer and it would be $2800. 00 to fix. Breaks feel loose and are not as responsive anymore.

After changed all the 12v battery and 201v battery pack brand new. All the fluid; oil, cooling water, transmission also been changed new, even clean out the exhaust co2 deposit in the pipe, basically the engine been clean out like new. The problems now is not start or put into ready mode. Due to the inverter and icu u1 circuit board now sending the signal to the dash board. Dash board only show flashing engine light, push button show amber not green. I heard Toyota is recal the software on the inverter, this is not going to help, due to reprogram the key and the imobolizer cause the infor on the dash to shut down, the obdii cant even read or function. Now my 2010 hybrid is dead. I don't know what to do. Please help.

I noticed when I was driving on a dry clear day traction control/brake light/abs illuminated my brakes became extremely hard to press and come to a stop also my cruise control will not engage. The lights on the dash would go off and the car would drive normal for a few days. It repeated this scenario a few times before the traction control/brake light/abs lights stayed on permanently as well as the cruise control will not engage.
