Seat belt no longer snaps in on both passenger and drivers side, additionally the belt freyed without only normal wear. Dealer wont cover under warranty or as a safety issue. $700 quoted for repair by Toyota dealer. Unable to afford repair and this should be recalled as a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that the shoulder strap for the front driver's side seat belt was frayed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
The customer stated that the vehicle was involved in a frontal collision in which the air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt did not properly restrain the driver. The driver hit his head on the steering wheel and sustained multiple injuries.
