The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the accelerator pedal failed to respond and a loud popping noise was heard. After numerous attempts, the vehicle began to operate normally and was driven to the side of the road. The identical failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and they stated that the computer module and transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer for repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The contact owns a 2001 Toyota rav 4. While driving 30 mph, the contact heard a noise in the rear of the vehicle. The contact also observed that the vehicle was driving abnormal. The dealers diagnosis confirmed that the transmission and computer needed to be replaced. A check engine light has never illuminated on the dashboard indicating that there might be a failure. Regular maintenance has consistently been maintained by the dealer. The contact stated that the manufacturer should be responsible for the repairs since this was a manufacturers defect. January 2008 I had the ecm reprogrammed by Toyota after receiving a letter to come in for this. On June 3, 2008, I experienced a sudden stutter followed by a loud noise while driving. The following morning while driving to work the vehicle stuttered and felt like it was going to stall. It would hesitate on acceleration. I called the dealership for servicing and took the care in. The advisor told me to replace the ecm and transmission. The service code indicated that the transmission failed. The Toyota tech service bulletin (tc002-06) from 3//3/06 indicated that improvements had been made to the manufacturing process of the ecm and to repair this problem, r&r ecm which was not done in the recall.
