My Toyota Rav4 started smoking by the headlights last night while I was driving on the highway. I pulled over and opened the hood to see what was happening and it burst into flames. The car completely burned. Nothing left! I see on the internet that other people have had this happen. Please investigate.
The rear subframe in my '06 Toyota Rav4 has rusted through. This is a key structural part of the vehicle, all of the rear suspension components attach to this subframe, so it's concerning to see the integrity of the subframe completely compromised. The component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps or symptoms of the failure. I happened to be under the car checking out an issue with a heat shield when I happened to notice the frame condition.
I notified Toyota of an issue with my car a couple years ago. One day I came out to find my car missing big portions of paint (it had been a windy night); all of the paint in the attached photos came off in a single night and day, which is not normal paint performance. I came to find out that other years for the same make and model had a recall program for "pearl white paint". The issue seemed to be affecting my vehicle too. With large portions of paint peeling freely of the body of my vehicle, it began to rust. Rust eroding the structure of a vehicle can make the car unsafe for drivers and passengers. In an accident situation, the structure of the vehicle may be compromised by the rust, leading to more severe harm to occupants. Additionally, if the roof of the car is compromised, moisture could leak into the interior systems and cabin space, leading to other hazards, with potentially severely harmful outcomes. Toyotas response to the photos, report from the dealership, and bbb complaint I filed was: "your vehicle has not been identified as one of the vehicles impacted by the pearl white paint issue". Therefore, I had to pay to repaint my whole vehicle out of pocket. It was clear from the pictures and report that the paint issue was directly affecting my vehicle, but Toyota refused to acknowledge this and rectify the hazard.
There was a recall regarding oil consumption. I took my vehicle to the dealer. They filled up the oil and told me to come back after 3000 miles but to not fill the oil. Halfway in, the oil was completely exhausted. Because it had not been 3000 miles, I could not take it back for a fix. I had no choice but to add oil or the engine blows. When I did take it back, I was given the response that the vehicle burns a normal amount of oil and I told them I had to fill it in between to avoid the engine blowing. They refused to fix the recall. I contacted Toyota who also refused to fix the recall because the dealership had written "normal" consumption. The vehicle burns oil at a very rapid rate and I would like this recall performed on my vehicle.
Having an issue with my rear right wheel speed sensor - so therefor if I don't cough up the $1200 that Toyota is asking, I won't have the safety features of abs or traction control on my car. I was driving on the highway when the abs, brake and traction control warning lights came on. . . They've been on for a week. . Car is sitting at Toyota now while I decide what to do.
At interstate speeds and sometimes quick acceleration all the lights come on the dash and you lose all steering , it locks up this has happened several times , to my seventeen year old daughter she was lucky there was not a corner when it happened she would've shot straight off the road . There needs to be a recall on this I have looked it up and there has been several complaints of this same issue on the Rav4s and several other Toyota's. If I knew this issue was a problem I would not of purchased this car for my daughter.
The sun visor will not stay up. This is a safty issue while driving.
Burning oil. I have to put oil all the time. Mechanics said car can't fix because the engine is the problem. I can only change the engine because it is a manufacturer problems. The car burn gas as well.
Most lights on dashboard are lit up. Vsc, engine 4wd. Also my mechanic said outs throwing off a lot of false readings. Lights are always on sometimes feels like the transmission is slipping when I go from stopped to go on a hill. Outs been this way since I bought it.
Takata recall, noise from right side of the engine. Very, very loud noise. Also, hard to turn the steering wheel.
Ntsb: 2006 Toyota Rav4 second recall for rear end suspension.
Slowing down at an intersection and brakes start to fail when I'm almost fully stopped and then the car continues to move forward when going less than 5mph.
Suspension recall by Toyota dealership keeps on being delayed. Dealer continues to use the excuse that the parts are not available and are slow to take action.
The sun visor driver side does not hold itself up in position. The visor drops down when put up or can be set on a side or can be set full forward closer to the front glass, but it can easily move. The sun visor weight is to heavy for the design and making it faulty. A Toyota dealer employee mention it is a common problem on "all rav 4" of the same model. The incident happen driving up a hill with the visor full forward as to cover oneself from the direct sun. Upon falling in an unseen street hold the visor dropped down, at the same time another car was coming and due to the position uphill of the car and the visor dropping suddenly it almost caused a direct frontal collision. The visor must be change as it inhibits proper frontal vision and function.
Osteoporosis and I read that this drug brings on or makes worse any osteoporosis condition mine is extremely sever and mine is sever. I have since gone to a nuerotologist and he put me on verapamil 80 mgs 2 x a day. I fractured my right knee in 15 places-I am in constant pain-I have to pay out money to get anywhere I need to go-groceries,bank all the continuing visits to my primary doctor, my orthopedic surgeon(because unless I do not replace my knee-I will be in this horrific-& pain that is my orthos opinion. I am all for it just to lessen the pain- I do not want to have take pills when it could be gone after my accidents- I receive in the mail yet another recall that specifily says my VIN number and says that besides something that gives electrical to the air bags- may cause air bags-not to deploy-I have no car,it was totalled, the police suspended my license and because of this I have to go through a bunch of stuff in order to get get my license back. I have called Toyota a lot of times-they do not care=I was what-I have no familyi have had 4 accidents-never had that many, I had a Toyota ceclica for 20 years and never had 1 recall and did have 1 accident. . And that is 20years prior to this one-that car was a super lemon, but no one gives a damn what I am going through and no one cares-the people I have talked to down there are rude and disrespective to mt. Hopefully I can find a lawyer which will do pro-bono. Thanks for the 15 fractures. Ur customer service sucks-they are rude & disrespecful.
I took my car to conicelli Toyota, in springfield PA. , for a humming noise coming from the rear. I was told that the coupling sub-assy, part # 41303-42022 had to be replace & would cost $1450. 00. Really!!! a odd part that does not go bad in a car, but Toyota having issues with it. I paid for the repair since I need my car & I am now being told that this should of been covered under specail policy adjustment wab2190. The TSB# is TSB 0080-13. Please let me know on this.
While driving home after grocery shopping, about a 4-mile drive, the vvt-I oil hose "exploded" (the word used by the Toyota sunnyvale, CA), causing smokes to come out of the car's engine compartment. Immediately, the kids were pulled out the vehicle and placed in a safe location. We are very concerned about the safety of the 2006 Toyota Rav4's oil line. What would have happened if the family was travelling farther away from home?! there is a "limited service campaign" in 2010 that only covers certain VIN of 2006-2009 Toyota Rav4. Although, my vehicle does not fall under the lsc, my vehicle is experiencing the same design defect. March 01, 2010 Toyota announced phase three of a limited service campaign (lsc) on certain 2007 -¿ 2009 model year avalon and Rav4 vehicles with a 2gr-fe (v6) engine . . . For phase three, there are approximately. . . 89,000 Rav4 v6 (2007-2009 model year) vehicles involved in the united states. Last year, Toyota also announced phases one and two of this lsc on. . . Rav4 v6 (2006 model year). . . Toyota needs to take better responsibility for this defect and recall all Rav4 v6 with similar design defect.
While driving on a suburban NJ road at around 30-40mph, the vehicle lost steering control out of the blue. The car veered into the left lane, I attempted to right the car and simultaneously hit the breaks. The abs response kicked in, and the car veered drastically to the right, going off the road, across the sidewalk, and finally coming to a stop in the woods. The repair shop discovered that the cause of accident was a broken tie rod of the back right wheel, that had been broken for a while because the sleeve encasing had rusted over. The damage to the car totalled $10,000, and the shop would have totaled the car if the milage hadnt been so low.
There is a very pronounced rattle, clacking, or such noise from the engine when traveling at around 25 mph while gently accelerating from between 1500 and 2000 rpm. It is quite repeatable. It occurs more readily when going uphill but I can induce it on flat ground as well. It sounds it is from the top end but because it only happens at-speed I cannot know for sure. The sound resembles valvetrain noise. This vehicle was purchased from a Toyota dealer with approx. 46k miles and it has made this noise since I first owned the car. It has been reported twice and both times I was told that it is normal, "all Rav4s do that". I don't know if this is related in any way to the well-known oil consumption issue that this engine has (2. 4 liter inline 4), as I also experience excessive oil consumption.
My driver side visor will not stay up, and drops down in front of my face, blocking my field of vision. This is a safety hazard. I live in portland, oregon and we have much more gray instead of sun, so my visor doesn't get used that much through the year. . Read more...
While driving the sun visor on the driver's side suddenly fell in front of my face and hit my nose. I could not see and almost veered into a ditch. My nose was bruised and swollen for 3 weeks. The visor has continued to be a troublesome issue as it continues to fall randomly causing the driver to be blinded by it or struck by it. I have tried using velcro to hold the visor in it's place but to no avail and have tried correcting the mistake but have no idea how to "fix" it. The visor has fallen while driving many times causing the driver to swerve. Toyota will not recall but offered to correct if I would pay them $175. . Read more...
Oil pressure warning lit up at approximately 73,050 miles. Diagnosis is that the oil consumption is faster than normal. Servicer topped off oil and returned to servicer after driving $1200 miles. I was told everything is fine. Then it happened again at approximately 81,950 miles. Servicer again tops off with oil and returned after driving another $1200 miles. This time the servicer stated that they need to tear the car apart the before pinpointing the exact problem. Approximate cost to do this is maybe $3,000. Extended warranty expired at $75,000 miles.
My truck has had 4 incidents of dangerously low oil levels. Toyota has service bulletins out regarding oil consumption and my model of the 2006 Toyota Rav4 regarding faulty pistons and rings. I have brought my truck to Toyota 4 times for this issue and Toyota refuses to fix the problem under my warranty stating that I am out of warranty even though my first complaint was 10/13/13 and my warranty expired Jan 2013 t-sb-0094-11 is the Toyota service bulletin.
When placed in reverse gear car bolts or jumps. Loud noise. Either reverse gear or transmission is faulty. Has gotten worse over the years.
Driver side visor started dropping down in front of my face. Won't stay up. Blocks drivers view ahead of car. Very dangerous. Started @ 60,000 miles.
My 2006 Toyota Rav4 limited edition, I heard a clunking noise coming from the front steering column each time I turned the wheel right or left. The noise occurs only when you turn the steering and it is a clunking noise along with a vibration in the steering when you turn the wheel. This has been an ongoing problem and when I brought it up with the Toyota dealership the attendant said that it wasn't an issue. The problem isn't going away and the noise and clunky feeling when turning steering has been increasing. The problem started when the car was about 40k miles (out of warranty @ 36k). Few mechanics from other places looked at it and said it need to be fixed ASAP. I read blogs and noticed many of these vehicle have similar issues. I hope Toyota won¿t wait until an accident happen because of the problem.
I have a 2006 Toyota Rav4 with 33,167 miles. The ignition key is about to fall apart. All the covers for the push buttons on the key are falling apart. This just started about a month ago. I went to the dealer and I was informed the key was not covered under warranty and would cost $250. 00 to replace.
2 unintended acceleration instances --- I have had two unintended acceleration instances in a 2006 Toyota Rav4. In both cases I was wearing boots and the boot hitting the brake overlapped and hit the accelerator at the same time. Neither case resulted in a collision. One of the problems here is that the brake pedal fully depressed position is well below the accelerator petal postion so overlap can apply the brake and accelerator at the same time.
Driver's side sun visor will not stay in place. The visor frequently and without warning abruptly drops to a straight-down position. In this position it impairs forward visibility, and for tall drivers it can block the view of the road completely, if you have to brake suddenly it can hit you in the head.
My sunvisor would not stay up. The problem got worse. While I'm driving if I hit a bump it falls into my veiw.
2006 Toyota Rav4, Toyota has determined and issued a repair procedure for the fresh air ventilation inlet area as the source of the leak however has not fully disclosed or addressed the potential for mold or mildew growth that may be present as result of the failure. I am forwarding this complaint to your attention as a concern for all 2006 Rav4 owners that as a result of this leak could harm occupants that have respiratory diseases.
Soon after I purchased my 2006 Toyota Rav4 limited edition, I heard a clunking noise coming from the front steering column each time I turned the wheel right or left. 3 mechanics from non-Toyota dealerships looked at my car on three separate occasions and documented the noise as a defect in the car that needs to be fixed. One mechanic told me that I could lose control of steering if I do not fix the problem. I recently took my car into my tire dealer for a tire rotation and the mechanic noticed the problem right away and said that I need to get it fixed ASAP. This has been a problem since I bought the car and is obviously a recall situation that Toyota has yet to take responsibility for. Please advise.
