1 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2019

My Rav4--VIN: jtmbk35v765008164--has a problem with the driver side airbag connector. When the warning light is on, it deactivates all of the airbags. It has become permanently on in recent days. It has become a safety hazard. When I start my vehicle and the automatic check up, the airbag light keeps lighting up. The airbag light on the dashboard would be on when stationary or in motion. It will keep on for the duration of the drive. The error code found by my independent mechanic is b1821. But my mechanic can not fix this problem. Even replacing the front driver seat may not fix the problem, according to my mechanics. It was a design problem with the connector. I have asked Toyota to fix this for free. Toyota refused.

8 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

The airbag warning light came on and stayed on last week. Took it to my local repair shop. Without even looking they guessed that it was the clockspring. After bringing it in and reading the comptuer codes, they confirmed that the clockspring needs to be replaced. Shop said they cannot buy an aftermakert part anymore and need to get an oem part from Toyota, which is expensive. Called Toyota dealer service center to just double check if there is any official recall for this problem. Apparently there is a similar recal on the tundra but not the Rav4.

9 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2013

I'm pretty sure the airbag malfunction warning light of my 2006 Rav4 is not a matter of wear an tear. There are several complaints on 2006-2008 ravs4 with identical problem. You don't want to hear this, but is hardly difficult to find a way to get in contact with Toyota motors, it seemed that they do not want to hear from the Toyota owner’s problems. Moreover, I explained them the airbags warning light illuminates sporadically at approximately 72,000 miles at 45 miles/hour and now remains on with no apparent reason, I drove my car to the dealer trying to get my car repaired by Toyota, but they doesn’t assume any responsibility due that the malfunction occurred after 3 year or 60,000 miles of warranty. I have noticed they have an air bags recall campaign for 2007 and newer ravs4, so it does seem suspicious at first glance because 2006 is not included even though many owners have experienced and filed complaints against Toyota due to the same problem. Realistically this is a safety matter, so 2006 Toyota Rav4 needs to be recalled.

10 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

My 2006 Toyota Rav4 airbag dash light began remaining on constantly and was diagnosed by findlay Toyota in flagstaff, az on 3/20/13 with: "recommend replacing spiral cable due to open circuit in spiral cable. . . $583 to replace sensor. " I called Toyota customer experience center at 1-800-331-4331 on 6/19/13 and spoke with jacklyn, who confirmed that no recalls are available for this problem on the Rav4s, despite this issue being the exact same as found in Toyota tacomas: March 08, 2012 customer faqs for Toyota tacoma steering wheel spiral cable assembly recall 1. Which models are involved in the recall? Toyota is recalling 495,000 certain 2005 to early 2009 model year Toyota tacoma vehicles sold in the u. S. No other vehicles are involved in this recall. 2. What is the condition? due to the combination of the steering wheel spiral cable design and characteristics unique to the tacoma chassis, friction between the spiral cable and the retainer in the steering wheel spiral cable assembly may occur in some vehicles. Friction over time may result in damage to certain circuits that provide connectivity to the driver’s air bag module. If connectivity is lost, the air bag warning lamp will remain illuminated, and the driver’s air bag may become deactivated, preventing deployment in the event of a crash. 3. Are there any warnings that this condition has occurred? yes. The airbag warning light is designed to illuminate when the vehicle is started. It goes off after about 6 seconds, indicating the system is operating as designed. If the airbag warning light remains illuminated after this period, please contact your local Toyota dealer for diagnosis and appropriate repair. This exact condition exists in my 2006 Rav4, however, I cannot afford the $583 required for an authorized dealer to repair it.

17 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2011

A warning light appeared on the dashboard indicating an airbag malfunction. I called Toyota service and was told the car required a repair, and the airbags would not function at all until this repair was done. Today the Toyota tech told us a "spiral cable assembly had gone bad. " he said it will cost $514. 00 to make this repair, and again, the airbags will not work unless it is done. I asked if this was a recall issue with Toyota and the service manager replied, "I have no idea. " I asked if this was a common problem with this car and he replied, "we see it all the time in rav3's and tundra's. " I indicated the car is only 5 years old with just over 60k miles, and that I have never (ever) had an airbag failure in any vehicle until now. He again said, "well, we see it all the time with this model. " this surely appears to be a design flaw that is very costly to an average consumer. Can they get away with this? please help! (thanks much-).
