36 Power Train problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

I searched online after the Toyota dealership told me that my coolant flow control valve is failing. I became aware that it is a common issue for my 2020 Toyota Rav4. The warranty does not cover it even though it should be part of the powertrain warranty.

37 Power Train problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/31/2024

I bought the 2020 Rav4 xle back in 2019 and had driven for four and half years now. I went to the dealership to get my routine oil change just this Monday July 29th 2024. As usual, the dealership did multi-inspection on my Rav4 and didn't find any problem that requires immediate attention. Two days later, a warning message popped up on the mid screen right after I started the car and read "engine maintenance required". After searching online, calling both local mechanic and Toyota dealership, it happens to be a well-known issue for many 2019-2023 Toyota models including Rav4, camry, corolla that the faulty coolant bypass valve has to be replaced. I'm not a car person and I don't know much about cars but I have had the radiator broken while I was driving on my old car due to coolant related issue and almost got me into an accident so I know I shouldn't overlook any issues related to coolant. That being said, Toyota dealership knew about the issue, my local mechanic heard about the issue, an overwhelming number of users had reported the issue on online forums, and with no surprise, a class action lawsuit was filed regarding this issue on June 2024. For a solid car brand that advertises reliability and accountability for its vehicles, not informing or recalling for affected customers is extremely disappointing and unacceptable. After all, I had to pay $785 out of pocket for a repair that should never be done in less 5 years/45000 miles.

39 Power Train problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/22/2024

I have the 2019 Toyota Rav4 adventure that was manufactured with a defective differential, per t-sb-0067-20, Toyota has acknowledged that the differential were defective and that affected thousands of 2019-2020 Rav4 adventure and limited trim models. The defective part number is 41110-42050 and the new, superceded part number is 41110-42054. I reached out to Toyota numerous times to rectify the issue has the differential clunks and could seize causing loss of control. My vehicle was deemed a "total loss" due to hail damage and Toyota refuses to assist because of the total loss, but the vehicle was manufactured with the defective part and my vehicle suffers the very same issue as that a non-total loss vehicle suffers. The title status is irrelevant as the defective differential was installed before the total loss, so the title status is inconsequential. This is a safety concern because the differential could fail due to seizure, shatter, explode resulting in a loss of control and injury to me the driver and others on the road. I've expressed this numerous times with Toyota.

40 Power Train problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/13/2024

My 2020 Rav4 (48,000 miles), when I start the engine and turn on the a/c, the warning light comes on:engine maintenance required.

41 Power Train problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/01/2024

Defective coolant bypass valve. Defective valve can cause total engine failure and mechanical failure leading to accident or injury up to and including death. Has been confirmed by service center. Engine service required light is on and will not go off there was no warnings of any issues prior to the light turning on. This is an expensive out of pocket fix in upwards of $1000. 00.

42 Power Train problem of the 2024 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/30/2024

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Rav4 hybrid. The contact stated that while attempting to park the vehicle in a parking space, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle hit a tree while the contact's foot was firmly depressed on the brake pedal. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact did not suffer any injuries and did not seek medical attention. A police report was not filed. The contact stated that two days prior to the failure, the "hybrid system fail" warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a repair and an inspection. The contact was informed that the vehicle's black box did not record a vehicle failure during the accident. The body of the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,600.

43 Power Train problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/25/2024

My 2020 Rav4 limited awd alerted me that the engine needed maintenance, and, so I parted it until Tuesday, after talking to the service professional at passport Toyota, they told me about everything else but did not see that the light was on. They did my regular 55,000 miles maintenance on my car. So before driving away, I noticed that the alert was still blinking on my car. Their findings is that the coolant bypass valve/hose etc. , has gone bad and is remaining in the open position. Apparently, this part isn't covered by warranty. After reading, there are a lot of years such as 2019, 2018 to name a few having had the same problem. And to fix the problem it is $857. 22. Since this problem is occurring in a lot of Rav4's, and I noticed camry's as well, should they look into why this is happening in a lot of models of their cars, SUV's etc.

44 Power Train problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/16/2024

Have experienced transmission problems when stopping, such as the vehicle lurching forward when the gas is pressed again. 69000k miles on car.

45 Power Train problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/16/2024

Coolant bypass valve failure. 2020 model year vehicle has 38,000 miles with a failed coolant bypass valve.

46 Power Train problem of the 2002 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/09/2024

My car engine light goes on and off due to transmission fault. It continuously has a hard time shifting gears in between 2500-3000 rpm and gives a jerky stop before continuing to speed up/accelerate despite when I have not let go of my foot from the pedal. After taking it to the auto shop, I was told this is the same problem other Toyota rav 4 between 2001-2003 experiences and the mechanics told me that there was a lot of recall for the same code my car is giving (2 codes that the computer diagnosed were p0775 and p0161). While Toyota extended the warranty to 10years/150,000k and my car is 1-2 years past the warranty, it's only been barely 80,000mi and it should not be causing this problem. This transmission/ecm problem puts me and the passengers to risks because both the speed and rpm don't go past certain numbers which is low at most times, limiting myself as the driver to go even within the speed limits. All the more, with this happening more frequently these days than it had in the past, I am highly concerned for my safety and not feel safe to have someone in my car. I have been to 4 different mechanics and they have told me the same problem and that it's the same case as they saw from different Rav4's recall problem. This car was handled very carefully and this is the only occurring problem. With engine light being on and off, it is my concern that I need to have this car inspected, related to Toyota Rav4 recalls.

47 Power Train problem of the 2017 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/29/2024

Vehicle has less than 50,000 miles. We purchased this vehicle new. Both inner cv axles are leaking grease. I expected, for a Toyota brand, for these parts to last much longer. It is difficult to know how long these have been leaking, but suspect for quite some time. Meaning these parts have been quite defective for possibly over a year or two. If these were to dry out without knowing, the cv could completely lock up--very dangerous.

48 Power Train problem of the 2013 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/17/2024

My 2013 Rav4 has been experiencing shuddering and vibrations at low speeds. Turns out it is the torque converter which Toyota was aware some 2013-2014 Rav4 have the problem. But instead of doing a recall they did a customer support program recall which they were able to put an expiration on the recall. Now my car needs the torque converter replaced Toyota will not honor the recall because it is expired 3 years ago. After seeing numerous complaints about the torque converter Toyota should reconsider doing a full recall on this safety issue.

49 Power Train problem of the 2024 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/13/2024

I'm driving a rental Toyota Rav4. I stopped the car at a curb, pushed the button to turn off the engine, and got out. There was a beeping sound (accessory on beep). I ignored it, as I wanted to quickly check something outside. I started to walk away and someone yelled 'car rolling'. I ran back, couldn't block the heavy car, opened the door and jammed on the foot brakes. Then I noticed the car was still in drive. With no engine-transmission torque against the wheels. The car is proximity-keyed, but does not require the transmission to be in the park position, to turn the engine off. This has happened twice in my driveway as well. In retrospect I'm lucky not to have been struck or run over by the car or clipped by the door. -------- yes I 'should' have put it in park. But every regularly keyed vehicle I have driven won't let me remove the key until it is in park, and as I said this has happened when I was doing other things in the car in my driveway. Going proximity keyless has dropped the transmission interlock requirement. This is a recipe for disaster.

50 Power Train problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/04/2024

My car is 55000 miles and coolant by pass valf is broken. It is common issue for this engine . Toyota shoul fix this issue as recall.

51 Power Train problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/02/2024

“engine maintenance required visit your dealer” appeared on screen. After searching for similar issues. The coolant bypass valve has malfunctioned or failed. The fact that hundreds if not thousands of others have had this issue and it has not yet been recalled coupled with the fact that this isn’t covered under powertrain warranty is just crazy. Considering when reporting this issue I had to select powertrain that showed coolant / hoses under the menu baffles me even kore that it wouldn’t even be considered covered under warranty. There needs to be a recall. $700+ to replace a sub $100 hose and sensor that has nothing to do with normal wear and tear.

52 Power Train problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

2019 Toyota Rav4 hybrid xse with 42000 miles on it. Engine light with message came on. “malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle or automatic transmission has been detected”. Toyota dealership said it was code p0128. Seems like this is prevalent in the Rav4 when checking forums and owner sites. Why is there not a recall for this matter for my VIN number. Toyota has other “engine coolant” recalls and I believe this one should be included! I am being charge almost 600$ for this repair!.

Failure Date: 01/22/2024

Delayed/harsh shifting when accelerating or maintaining speeds of 60 - 70 mph. Shuddering sporadically when rpms are between 2000 - 3000. Marysville Toyota of washington reproduced and confirmed the issue noted above. They diagnosed the vehicle with a failed torque converter. No warning light have come on and the dealership was made aware of this as well. Due to no warning lights, it came as a surprise when the vehicle jolted. I was on the highway maintaining speed when all of a sudden there was a delay and the vehicle began to reduce speed then after 20 - 30 seconds the vehicle forced itself over 3000 rpm and began to regain speed. As the vehicle would suddenly reduce speed without warning I utilized the right lane until I was able to exit from the highway as I was becoming a hazard on the road due to the issuing my vehicle was having.

59 Power Train problem of the 2023 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/20/2023

Car loses traction over minor imperfections in the road. When braking and dropping speeds to 20-30 mph, car will lose traction over imperfection in the road, causing the abs to engage. The car shutters and grinds/vibrates until traction is regained. With an awd system, a minor 6-inch drop in the road due to a pot hole or dip should not cause traction to be lost. The car consistently loses traction when braking and 1 tire runs over imperfection in the road (pot hole, dip, uneven pavement, etc. ). If car drives over speed bump (which keeps tires aligned), car does not lose traction. Issue is only present if 1 tire different than the other 3 which shows instability of the vehicle. Issue has been verified by manufacturer and has shown up in the car log. Dealer said that the car recorded a loss of traction 4 times in the last month. Issue has been escalated to Toyota corporate and they do not see the sensitivity of the traction control as an issue. Issue has been persistent since the purchase of the car in early 2023. All components on the car are oem and have only been looked at by Toyota dealers. Multiple online forums have shown that other owners face the same issues. Video proof of the issue can be provided.

60 Power Train problem of the 2023 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/12/2023

I am an owner of new 2023 Rav4 and believe some of the newer 2023 & 2024 Toyota Rav4 models with ice (non-hybrid) have a potentially dangerous defect with the transmission system, which causes these cars to jerk and stutter when the gas pedal is lightly depressed (light acceleration) when the car speed is between 15 and 40 mph and tachometer is between 1500 and 2500 rpm. The reason I believe this defect is potentially dangerous is that a few weeks ago I was going through a school zone with an active 20mph limit, and when trying to keep the speed at 20mph, experienced jerkiness, rpm jump and sudden speed bouncing (momentary jerking from lower to faster and back to lower speeds a few times in a row). Typically this issue is a lot more subtle but occasionally it is so bad that I have a momentary feeling of loosing control over the speed of the car and active school zone is the least place I'd like that to happen. Besides, these stutters are pretty bad disturbers when they occur drawing focus away from the road and onto the car itself, since it does feel like the car is about to stall. I have visited the dealership twice regarding this concern, however since these stuttering have a random nature I was not able to replicate the issue during my visits to the dealership. I have also passed this concern to Toyota USA corporate office and they in fact have acknowledged that they received numerous complaints on the same matter and suspect the issue is in the newer 8 speed transmission system they are now installing. Unfortunately there has been no further action taken by Toyota to remedy this issue, although they are fully aware of it. Hoping you get more complains on this matter and force Toyota to take action. Thank you!.

65 Power Train problem of the 2018 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/18/2023

Last week my transmission suddenly and completely failed while driving on the interstate, creating a major safety concern. I was stranded on the interstate for three hours until I could be towed off. The car only has 56,000 miles on it and there were no warnings that there was any problem with the transmission. The transmission previously failed at 7,000 miles and was found to be defective and replaced at the time. How can a car with 56,000 miles on it already have had two transmission failures?.

67 Power Train problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/26/2023

Engine bypass coolant valve needs to be replaced. The engine maintenance required light turned on. My car only has 74k miles and a 2020 model car and this is a $900 replacement. This is quite concerning as multiple owners have reported this part failing after even 30k miles. This part needs to be recalled.

68 Power Train problem of the 2023 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/20/2023

The vehicle several occasions been unresponsive to accelerate. This has happened on two separate occasions (days) in which the vehicle would not accelerate. The first occurrence was right after I purchased the car and drove it the first full day I owned it in September 2023. The second time was on Saturday December 16, 2023. When the vehicle is driven under 40 mph such as slowing for a turn, braking for a traffic light, picking up speed to enter onto a highway this problem occurs. It is when the gas is pressed down to accelerate, the vehicle does not respond by increasing the speed. The rpm's would go really high and the vehicle would receive the gas but would not "shift" and felt stuck. And the transmission was very loud. It felt like the vehicle transmission was slipping or not engaging/shifting. Adding more gas was not beneficial. The gas pedal could be pressed down to the floor and the vehicle was not responsive by shifting "gears" or picking up speed. The vehicle would not accelerate above 20 mph and the rpms would go up. No lights or warnings were produced. The only way to get the vehicle to act normally once again was to pull the car over into a safe location, shift the car into park, shut the car off, wait for a few seconds, restart the car and proceed. In one session (driving the same day) the car repeated the inability to accelerate each time the vehicle was slowed down below 40 mph to come to a stop at a stop sign, take a turn, stop at a traffic light etc. This was dangerous as I was not able to proceed in traffic and caused other drivers to honk their horns at me, and left me stuck in intersections. This was very disconcerting and left me feeling endangered by not being able to follow the flow of traffic. Toyota service did a diagnostic test on it twice now. The first time had torque converter codes. This 2nd time they claim there were no codes on the diagnostic test. They dropped the transmission pan and found no metal shavings.

69 Power Train problem of the 2018 Toyota RAV4
