Tell me who to talk to about how you decide safety features for the newly improved electronic systems in cars. Or forward this to them. First of "objects in mirror are closer than they appear". Have you driven on the highway lately? did you not notice how each and every car gets in front of a semi w only 3' distance? that mirror thing needs to be reviewed because no one is paying attention. I don't see any cars in my blind spot. Then there is that new thing about putting the dialing pad on my new panel? what's the difference between that and my dialing on my phone. Accident waiting to happen. Now, some cars have auto answer with a button, others don't. Mine has the answer which should be painted green but it's not, but it does not have the "call button" voice activated. Only upgraded vehicles do. So, I'm on the highway and forget what exit or what city I'm supposed to get off on. It's rush hour and the traffic is moving slowly. I have to pull off to the curb and call?. Then I have to merge onto that crazy traffic. Really? who actually does it. And you ask why there are so many accidents? this should be a mandatory feature on all cars from now on for an actual hands off experience. Bluetooth is the best new invention for driving, but we need to utilize it to it's best. Next: my car has a metallic decorating rim on the dashboard. I was almost blinded by the sun the other day. I had that and the window of the car in front of me shining on my face. I could barely find a safe spot for me to see. Please look into this and make certain things mandatory standard features (no metal rims on dashboard. ). You want safety? lend me each new car and I bet you I will find stuff wrong with it within the month. Thanks for letting me vent.

20 Structure problem of the 2013 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

The center console slides back and forth. While driving, if you have your arm on it, it will slide. The locking mechanism does not lock in place. I think this is a safety hazard and should be corrected. It is very noticeable when a passenger is using the center console as an arm rest as well, if you are reversing, and/or you are adjusting while operating the vehicle in any way with your arm on the center console.

If the problems are indeed design problems, why are vehicles manufactured in japan excluded from the recalls? thank you.

28 Structure problem of the 2005 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/20/2008

I have a 2005 Toyota Rav4 which, because of the shoddy material, I. E. , plastic, used on the fenders/bumpers, body of the car, I have had costly damage which I have had to pay $1,000 deductible every time, done due to being hit by another car or personal accidents because of the weather, etc. I love my car but all that has to be done to the car is for another car or a pole or whatever, to even a little more than lightly hit it and it caves in like a piece of aluminum or plastic. Something has to be done about the way cars are made nowadays. I could've been killed this past Sunday when I was in bumper to bumper traffic on a highway and hit someone. My front fender got the brunt of the damage. I used to have a 1992 Toyota tercel with fenders/bumpers that were strong and could withstand a collision. This is ridiculous, not to mention costly. It could also be the cause of my insurance being raised or dropped next year! no one seems to really care about how dangerous cars are being made nowadays. Thank you.

29 Structure problem of the 2003 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/17/2008

I have a 2003 Toyota rav 4. For several years now there has been a squeaking/crunching noise in the dashboard that no one has been able to get rid of. My mechanic has put packing behind my radio and in the vicinity and for the first day the noise is gone but it always returns. It is horrible in the winter in the midwest when everything is cold and stiff but gets a little more tolerable when its hot and humid.

30 Structure problem of the 2002 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/12/2008

Purchased used 2002 Toyota Rav4 in oct 2004. Both visors were already sagging a bit and were a hazard to driving within 8 months. I purchased the replacement visors from the dealer in July 2005 for a total of $131. 27. They told me the original owner must not have been careful and I needed to be very careful when using the visors. I took their word and was gentle when I put the visors up and down. Less than 3 years later and I already need to replace them again!! I have small children who only sit in the back seat, so the passenger visor doesn't get used very often and it is just as bad as the driver's side visor that gets used every day. I had my last vehicle for 13 years and both visors were still in perfect condition when I traded the vehicle in for this one. Based on my research, this is a known problem with several different Toyota models. I can't find any solutions and the dealer has told me that all I can do is purchase another set - with no guarantee that they won't break again.

33 Structure problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 03/28/2008

The "memory drive feature" on this vehicle is a hazard and skews gas mileage. I own a 2007 Toyota Rav4. I shopped and compared vehicles, prices and consumer guides for more than 2 years. I was not informed of the "driving memory feature" in the computer on the vehicle when considering buying. Vehicle has lag time between the ability to acceleration or take evasive capability to avoid accident or get out of the way to avoid being hit. The memory feature, electronics/computer system develops a memory as to a person's driving "habit". It then becomes confused because every time I drive conditions change, minute to minute, day to day, causing the system to become confused when I ask the car to respond to an exception in driving conditions. My gas mileage epa is listed as 19 to 28 mpg, and I am yet to get 18 mpg once in city driving. I can't even get close to an average of 19 I get 17. 5. One highway trip I got 24. 9 mpg, and I am an average driver, not a lead foot. I took it to a Toyota dealer here in tucson and they "erased" the memory in the drive computer. It drove well for 2 days then has returned back to the previous erased memory. My gas mileage is worse. I talked with another owner and he told me to take it out of overdrive for in-town driving. If I do that the engine will rpms will not drop if over 40 mph thereby ,skewing gas mileage and will damage the engine. So, here I am, paid $26,000 for a car and am so unhappy with the rip off. I would be happier if it was available in a stick shift so I could take the control, but americans are lazy, so Toyota doesn't offer this model in a stick shift. (my preference) the fact that Toyota is not fourth coming with this feature is grounds for fraud. But the new american way is lie by omission. I did call the Toyota complaint line, national number and they took a report and will get back with me. I do not think I should have to spend my time off going to the dealer only to be told the same story.

After a session of heavy rain water leaks onto the passenger side floor board. It only happens after prolonged rain and seems to be leaking from somewhere beneath the glove compartment. I took the vehicle to the dealer but they were unable to diagnose the problem. I've read online complaints from other owners with the same problem.

35 Structure problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota rav 4. The contact observed mice entering the vehicle from the clean air intake and stated that she had caught fifty-seven mice to date. The dealer inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that there was nothing that they could do to prevent the mice from entering the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic in 2008, where they placed sealant onto the vehicle to keep the mice from entering but to no avail. The vehicle was not further repaired.
