Air Bag Problems of Toyota Scion Tc

Our Toyota 2006 Scion Tc was involved in a head on collision when it was pulling out slowing on a main road and the other truck involved was probably traveling close to 45mph, the car was totaled but not one air bag worked. This car was purchased because it had a high safety rating, however it is just lucky the driver and passenger were not seriously hurt. Had the car not been totaled we would have insisted it be totaled, would never purchase another Toyota again.

Rear curtain airbags began swelling, causing separation of interior panels. Called scion customer relations and was advised that, because my VIN did not match the recalled units, there was nothing that could be done and that the owner would be considered responsible even though I was experiencing a similar issue as documented in Toyota recall no. Ssc 60h. According to their records the proper repairs were already made prior to my purchase. Either this is a continued defect, or the repair was completed improperly as no incident has occurred that would otherwise compromise the integrity of the airbag units.

While driving on a country road, which are everywhere in south central IL, my driver side-curtain airbag deployed. The road is one which I've driven hundreds of times with no problems. The local Toyota dealers regional manager told me that I had damaged the car by striking a"pothole" and that "pothole" caused the side-curtain airbag deployment. I had just had new tires installed the week before, so I returned to the tire shop and indeed my rims were slightly bent, but, they were still perfectly in balance. Toyota claims that these "bent rims", although they are still perfectly balanced, caused my side curtain airbag to go off. I have had several of the other issues that are in this database for the 08 Scion Tc. The drive by wire throttle has went rouge on me several times( unintended acceleration and sometimes a delay in acceleration). Slight bumps such as "slow-down" strips unsettle the car greatly also. The stock tires came apart in less than 30k miles. Finally, the throttle is hair-trigger off the line witch makes for nightmarish winter driving. This will be my last Toyota.

I owned a 2006 Scion Tc. It was recently totaled in an accident with over 11,000 dollars worth of damage. The impact was on the passenger front quarter panel and rear passenger panel. The impact also was on the bumper. This is the fourth impact on the front and no airbags have ever deployed. Thankfully, everyone involved in the accident was not seriously injured.

I purchased a 2009 Toyota scion from the fairfield, CA dealership . I was on the freeway when my car accelerated up to a faster speed than I wanted I tried to correct it in the confusion and not understanding what was going on I lost control and crashed into another vehicle. There was 10,000. 00 of damage to the car it was repaired but then I had another accident in the same car again sitting at a stop light I barley tapped the gas pedal my car jumped into a high speed smashing into the car in front of me after I hit I turned around to check on my child thinking a car had hit me from behind but it was not another car it was just mine but then it did it again smashing into the car again. It was crazy I had no idea what was going on my face was smashed up pretty bad 2 black eyes and fat lips extra. My car hit the car in front of me so hard it smashed into the car in front of it. Now gather I was already stopped sitting and waiting for the light to turn green what caused my car not once but twice to smash into the car in front of me. My car was totaled. I had the worst time with this car it seemed like I was driving with a dark cloud over me. Not only was the acceleration a problem but the trunk lid also broke off and my seat belts did not work properly. There also was a problem with the brakes sometimes if I was on a steep hill the brakes would skip and not catch almost like it would jump.

My daughter came around a curve and swerved to avoid impact. She could not remember all of the accident. My wife and I went back to the scene and attempted to go through a re-creation of the accident. She swerved to avoid deer. Went off the road into a high embankment. It appears she went on 2 wheels over a field drainage pipe. Then head on into the embankment. That force appeared to throw the car upward on it's nose, on the drivers side front wheel area. It appears that the car then continued to flip towards the drivers side. Causing the sunroof to catch the ground and caused a type of leverage. That caused the car to continue the roll. It appears that, the car did finish the roll and landed directly on the full drivers side of the car. Then bounced up enough to land back down on 4 wheels. Not a single airbag deployed! the fire, ems, and even the adjuster said that at least the passenger airbags should have deployed. Not a one deployed. My daughter had a huge painful bruise on her leg. Whiplash, concussion, painful ribs and back. Now she will not drive in a scion and does at times get anxiety attack in cars. I could go on longer but, im afraid that there isn't enough room here. We are now attempting a settlement dialog with scion. Unfortunately they appear to be dragging their feet here. We are open to seeking a lawyer and press interviews. Please beware with the 2009 Scion Tc for safety.

Purchased 2005 Scion Tc new on 12/29/2004 have had several problems with interior trim and paint. Then last June (2009) when opening the trunk (hatch back) the latch plate came off the car in my hand hanging by a cord. This plate is made of very thin plastic and attached to the car with thin plastic clips. The clips are not strong enough to with stand the constant use and amount of upward pressure it takes to raise the hatch. In December 2009 the lever on the drivers seat back to move the seat forward to allow passengers in the back stuck and wouldn't move. Couple days later the lever would move but didn't work. The seat back can only be moved now using the lever at the side of the seat bottom. The car had less than 50,000 miles on it when the trunk/hatch piece broke off and under 60,000 miles when the seat lever stopped working. All the interior trim pieces that line the hatch window have broken off and they are also only held in place with these very flimsy plastic clips. The drivers side front pillar airbag cover has been falling off since the 3-4 month I owned the car the dealer has "tried" to repair and still when you shut the door or just driving the cover falls off.

After being involved in a collision where the entire passenger side of my 08 Scion Tc was damaged none of my air bags deployed. The other car hit me behind the front wheel and then turned so both cars were facing the same way, slammed against each other. The other vehicle was an 03 olds alero whose airbags deployed. If this car has such a great safety rating for front and side impacts where were the air bags. The seat belt locked causing much pain and discomfort to my left shoulder. This collision caused 6500 $ worth of damage, so you tell me how serious it was.

My son was involved in an accident involving his 2005 Scion Tc hatchback. The right front tire left the road and he attempted to correct this. When he corrected, the back end of the car went out from under his control. He crossed the center line and entered the ditch on the left side of the road. He hit a driveway culvert head on. The car then flipped end over end and turned sideways before it landed nose down in a ditch approximately 40 feet from initial impact. Neither the driver or front passenger airbags deployed. He and I have attempted to contact scion for assistance, they have given us no help. Could you please help us out?.

On 9/23/07 I was in an accident while driving my 2006 Scion Tc. The front end of my car hit the passenger side of another car. I had been at a stop and had just proceeded into the intersection about 20 feet when we hit, so I could not have been going more than 15-20 mph. The other driver's speed is unknown, although the posted speed limit is 35 mph. The entire front end of my car was ripped off and the frame was pushed back. The body shop estimated the damage to be well over $11,750 so the insurance company declared it a total loss. Damage to the other vehicle was minor. Not one of my 6 airbags ever deployed even though the force of the crash was enough to demolish the car and throw me against the driver's side door.

The passenger seat and passenger side curtain airbags deployed after a passenger exited the vehicle and closed the door. I was still in the drivers seat at the time. My right arm and right cheek were scratched.
