4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 12/26/2021

Uses too much oil between oil change. 1quart low at 2000 miles. Should not burn this much oil. I have researched other vehicles having this same issue and this needs to be fixed. I checked Toyota website but it doesn’t show a recall for this car and it is have an issue that needs to be corrected. I scheduled an appointment for Jan 8th and hope they can get it fixed. But after reading what others have experienced for the same reason it will be more money out of my pocket due to Toyota not following through with their manufacturing mistakes. We shall see I guess.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 09/20/2021

I am also one of them that just learned why my 2007 Scion Tc is eating the oil. I love this car and wish I would have received the notice about the engine problems back when Toyota may have done something about it. I know that three difference dealerships have my contact info. I will continue to put in a quart of oil each week until that stops helping.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 02/13/2021

Literally just bought the vehicle. Only to look into the history of these cars and see that they have a factory defect that was never professionally taken care of. Now anyone like me coming into ownership of these vehicles are punished for something we had no knowledge of nor caused. I was driving my car today down a residential road when all of a suddthe car jerks and dies. It would restart after that. Now mind you I take great care of my vehicles and keep all fluids to their factory suggested levels. I found out later that it spun a bearing thanks to this factory oil defect. So the money I just invested into this car is now a donation. And I either find a new car, buy a new engine or rebuild the engine. All for a problem that Toyota soo unprofessionally handled and refused to take ownership of. Now I don't know what car companies keep secrets from the public but I'm sure one that doesn't give one iota of a f!?@ about their customers would allow something like this to pass by without rectifying the issue and making it right.

Failure Date: 02/04/2013

My 2005 Toyota Scion Tc turned off while I was driving. I put vehicle in park and re started it. Moments later the brakes failed and I turned into a plaza. At that point the steering failed. I did not know the vehicle was on fire until this point. I had no control of the car so I reached back and grabbed my two year old who was strapped in her car seat. Right before we jumped out the car stopped completely ( tires melted) , the flames were visible in front of me and the car filled with smoke. We jumped out and ran. Moments later the entire car was in flames. Witnesses told me that I was on fire for a while and they turned around to get my attention. 16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 09/28/2011

Took my car to the shop for regular maintence and found out that my car was leaking coolent out of three head bolts on back of engine block. They were stripped out because of Toyota improper design of the block. 4 1/2" hole with 4" bolt with only the bottom 1 1/2" threaded which is only an inch to inch thread. Pour design for an aluminum block for that tensile strength. Its an 06 Scion Tc they wanted 6000 to replace block. Even called corporate but they wouldnt do anything about it since its outside of powertrain warranty when they know its a known issue. They even issued a TSB out in 3/2/2011. Something needs to be done I have seen many cases on this issue and Toyota is not willing to do anything about their problem and their pour designs. Service bulletin: s-sb-0004-11.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 03/14/2011

Since I've bought my car, at every car start up there is a noise or a rattle that is briefly audible for about 1 second then stops. When the vehicle is started again, the noise is no longer there. This only happens at vehicle start up. It sounds something similar to a winding noise. The engine in my vehicle is the exact same engine in the 2011 Toyota camry, 2ar-fe. A TSB has been filed for the camry however a TSB has not been issued for the Scion Tc. My current mileage is 29800. I recommend a TSB be filed for the Scion Tc 2. 5l 2ar-fe so I and others with this problem could repair our vehicles. TSB for camry: TSB number: TSB-0146-10 NHTSA number: 10034924 TSB date: June 9, 2010 date added to file: February 1, 2011.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 11/11/2010

Both catalytic converters failed and need replaced. Dealership ( fort bend Toyota ) stated the failure was unusual and premature. Defective equipment for that model/ year / and mileage.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 09/11/2009

I bought a new 2008 Toyota scion. When my car broke down while driving, I had it towed to my mechanic. He suggested the engine was bad and would not touch it. Then I had it towed to the dealers. Its' engine died just short of the warranty miles. First the dealer tells me outright that in this economy there was no way the company would replace the engine. To add insult to injury, they called me to say that there's no oil in the tank ( I just had a recent oil change the month before) and then they said there was water in the oil tank and needed my permission to open it and charge me a $300. 00 fee. If that wasn't the problem, then I wouldn't be charged. Finally, after weeks without my car, they tell me it needs a new engine and I needed to pay $7,000 for it on a car I still owe $16,000 for. They say perhaps if I showed the receipts that the car was maintained, then maybe they would work out something, but not likely. I gathered all the receipts that I could find and they refused to acknowledge the handwritten ones. The engine had to have been defective to die under 36,000 miles. I have been without my car (dismantled at the dealers) since sept, 2009. I cannot afford a new engine let alone with the car payments $550. 00 each month plus insurance that I still have to pay with no car. I don't believe that any engine should die that young with maintenance. I have bought new cars over 40 years and none of them ever had a bad engine that died. And, on average I keep my cars for 5 yrs with approximately 60,000 miles on them. Toyota is being unfair. They talked down to me because I am female and older. I am not stupid. They told me to go ahead and take them to court. This is no way to treat any customer.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 07/03/2008

The throttle body stuck open causing it to rev to excessive rpms and then would finally die. This happened while driving at highway speed in 7/08. The throttle body was replaced and then once again it failed, this time sticking closed causing the car to die in an intersection. This was in 3/11 (this year) with only 73k on it total miles ( only 30k on this throttle body). When we received the new part this time, it had been obviously redesigned with a vent allowing corrosion not to occur. This is a real hazard when you have no control over engine speed while driving. With the redesigned part ( a Toyota/scion part) it is obvious this was a "known" problem, yet no recall was ever issued or received.
