My 2007 Scion Tc. Has a big issue with oil comsuption. I always have to change my oil every 2,000 miles if I dont drive it long distance. When I drive it for about 45 mins each way everyday it burns all the oil when it hits 1,700 miles. Today 03/03/2021 I check my oil and it was actually empty I mean not even a drop im glad I cought it today I dont want to know if I had taken much longer im sure my engine could breakdown easily. I dont know what to do I try all the full synthetic oils and it still the same.

Oil consumption is abnormally high. Recorded roughly a quart or more consumed per 1,000 miles. No leaks evident. Car use is normal daily use, and car engine and mechanical components have not been tampered with in any way whatsoever. Oil reservoir is nearing empty after roughly 2600 miles after fresh oil change.
Excessive oil consumption.
My Scion Tc was taken to dch Toyota & scion of torrance for oil consumption test on Mar 03, 2015 at 129,050 miles and again on may 21, 2015 at 132,611 miles. No action regarding high oil consumption was taken. On oct 5, 2015 while driving on 110 fwy in la engine suddenly stopped working and car needed to be shift in to neutral in order to roll to the side. This put me in to grate danger since everything stopped working. Car was towed to in to shop where mechanic diagnosed that engine has seized. It had low oil level and aluminum residue in it. His conclusion based on Toyota own admit ion of high oil consumption and fact that car had at the time 136,816 miles and next scheduled oil change suppose to be at 139,387 miles. I had to replace engine and clutch to have car running again. I contacted Toyota for reimbursement according warranty enhancement notification - ze7. Their response were that I do not meet criteria for reimbursement. My opinion is that they have manufacturing problem with many Scion Tc engines in regard of high oil consumption and that they should be responsible for repair cost. They know about it and they did nothing when I brought car twice for test and repair.

We purchased a 2007 Scion Tc for our son. We have had no problem with the car and we were unaware of the Toyota reports on it. We have had the car serviced and have records. He was driving home from work and without warning his engine blew. I learned about the oil consumption problem on the car so we had it towed to our local dealership and checked. They felt that the problem was part of the oil consumption problem and sent the information up the stream for it to be denied by the warranty person who made his decision based on a couple of pictures and the fact that the car was not bone dry from oil. It showed all the damage of a vechile with oil consumption problem. They have now denied my claim again and still the person that is making the decision did not send the field rep to look at the car. We are loyal Toyota owner and currently own 5. We have never ever been so disappointed in the way a situation was handled. My son could have been serious injured if he was not able to get off of the busy highway in time. He had no warning. I have be doing my research and have learned the scope of the problem and Toyota, know the scope is trying to sweep it under the rug. I still owe 2 years of payments on this car and they would like me to pay $6200 to replace my engine. It has definitely been identified as an engine problem and they are making more money on a problem that they caused. I noticed that there are 2 class action suits against them for the problem because it is so big. Please issue a recall so that all of us involved can drive safely in the cars that we work hard to pay for.
In about January of 2015 I received an extended warranty notice for my 2008 Scion Tc stating this and other vehicles with the same engine maybe experiencing excessive oil consumption. Dealer told me it was fine after keeping it the entire weekend. A year and a half prior I had to take the vehicle to the dealership because about two weeks after they changed my oil the oil light started flickering on and off as if there was no oil in the car on or around may 14, 2015 a about 10:15 pm my 2008 Scion Tc with around 119000 miles cut off while I was merging onto 95/495. I could have had an accident and possibly been injured or died due to this engine. I had the car looked at by my mechanic who then told me my vehicles engine had seized because the engine was taking in too much oil. I then had it towed into the dealership. Upon further investigation I find out Toyota had a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against them for this excessive engine oil consumption problem. Toyota knew about the problem in 2008 and knew the excessive consumption could and would cause engine seizure. In an article issued on April 12, 2014 it states that Toyota/scion sent out a tsa to it's dealership telling them not to assume responsibility fr this issue.
I have an 08' Toyota Scion Tc that is burning oil at an abnormal rate. I brought my car to the Toyota dealership where they topped off my oil and taped the dipstick down and told me to bring it back after I drive it about 1200 miles. I went back to the dealership at 1200 miles and after waiting hours for them to check the oil only for them to come out and tell me everything was okay. I asked them if there was any oil loss and I was told that it's normal for older engines to burn oil. Not in my book, not for any vehicle. I know people who have had their Toyota for more than 15 years and never had that problem. Someone with over 200,00 miles on their Toyota and never had that problem. I don't think having the oil light come on before the next scheduled maintenance is normal. But I'm a 26 year old female so what do I know right? I know that it's not normal. This has become such an inconvenience that all I want is the problem fixed. For them to take apart my engine and replace the damn pistons so I don't have to worry about checking my oil every couple of weeks. Toyota is responsible for this mistake and I would like it fixed if they want me to stay a Toyota customer.
Excessive oil consumption after 1000. Miles oil consumption test at caldwell Toyota dealer. 2 1/2/ quarts down. Then we were given a warranty enhancement notification form to take to the dealer. The dealer said come back and we will do another oil consumption test in 1000 miles. This has been going on since summer of 2014. I hope the car doesnt burn up. Please issue recall. They are getting away with not fixing the problem the first time. The notice said once there are enough parts then they will send out notices to fix the cars. Ok now!!!.
Each time I braked, my oil light came on. Went to the lube place, and was almost out of oil. No leaks, but black smut in exhaust pipe. Seem to be burning excessive oil. Researched on internet, and is a recognize problem with Toyota cars. Toyota issued a technical bulletin to its dealership. Defective pistons were used in manufacturing the cars, but there is no recall. Toyota told me it's normal for their cars to burn a quart of oil every 800 to 1,000 miles, to change my oil at 3,000 miles (which I normally do), to check it every 1,200 miles and top off in low. Unacceptable. Why would I buy a brand new car with defective parts? and why should a manufacturer think it's ok to make and sell cars with defective parts? why are they not held responsible for basically stealing from people? the solution is to replace the engine at a cost of around $6,000 (about 25% cost of a new car).
Engine is burning large amounts of oil between scheduled 5000 mile oil changes. The first time this happened was in August 2014. While driving my oil light came on. I stopped and checked the dip stick to find that the engine was completely out of oil. At this time I checked for leaking oil in my garage and was unable to find any. I assumed that possibly the dealership did not put enough oil in the vehicle during the last scheduled oil change. The second time this occurred was on 12/14/14. My oil light came on again while driving and when I pulled over realized I had no oil in my car again. Still no leaking found in my garage. I am sure it had enough oil in it after the last oil change which occurred between the two incidents. After having the oil changed the last time I checked the vehicle to be sure that it had enough after leaving the dealership.
Letter from congressman carter on behalf of constituent re 2007 Toyota scion recall. The consumer stated the vehicle had an engine/oil problem. The engine was replaced in July 2014, due to a rod being thrown through the engine block. The consumer then received a warranty enhancement notification regarding an oil consumption problem. He submitted documentation for reimbursement. However, Toyota never responded.
My tc has very high oil consumption. Starting day one from oil change, I have to add at least 2 quarts of oil to engine during the 5000 miles oil change. This car is very high oil consumption, I brought to dealer and have it tested twice, but dealer said not qualified. First test was 11-09-15, second test was 07-28-17. My car has no leaking oil, and its odometer 65k currently.
My Scion Tc burns excessive engine oil. Toyota recommend oil change every 5k miles and at about 3-4k miles after an oil change, the oil is burnt so much to the point that when I check engine oil level it's well below the length of the dipstick and red oil low warning light on the dash comes on. This is extremely dangerous, if a car stalls in the middle of the highway due to engine failure with no oil, lives can be lost due to this type of accident. There is already a class action law suite against Toyota on this. Instead of a mandatory recall, Toyota says you have to do a test first before they're willing to repair for free. I went to dealership for the test and my car burns 0. 6qt/1000miles. For the 5000mile oil change interval, my car would have burnt 3qts and keep in mind this engine is designed to hold only 4. 5qts. The oil level would be too low to be shown on dipstick. Yet Toyota refuse to do the repair claiming that within 1qt/1000mile is normal. Seriously? that would mean by 5k oil change is due the engine would have burnt all oil and bone dry. Nhtsa, please make Toyota pay for this. They are risking people's life just to save money on repair cost. Need help from government in this matter.
The engine in my 2009 Scion Tc has been burning oil internally. I have been told by four different mechanics that this is a safety hazard because it can be dangerous if the car runs out of oil which it almost did. Toyota constructed the engine improperly and the engine needs to be rebuilt which involves replacing the internal parts of the engine such as the rings and pistons. After taking the car to the dealer, Toyota refused to give me the diagnosis of the problem but offered to rebuild my engine at full cost. After doing some research, it has been brought to my attention that everyone who purchased a car made by Toyota with the 2az-fe engine is having the same exact problem which can be very dangerous. I am having to add oil to my car weekly due to the oil consumption problem. Others who have cars with the 2az-fe engine may not be aware of the problem, which can be dangerous if they run out of oil. Toyota should recall the engine due to safety concerns and make the appropriate repairs.

There is a terrible oil consumption problem with this car. My daughter's engine blew up because of it. If you do not plan on checking your oil every singleday. Do not buy this car. All I could get from anyone is that I was supposed to take it to the dealer with an oil problem. I am not a mechanic how the heck would I know that? be forewarned. . . . And I am a Toyota buyer through and through, I might sell my cars after this.
I noticed the oil level on the dip stick was at the "need to add a quart" mark after 5,000 miles. The 2007 tc only has 65k miles. I noticed that was pretty strange given in my experience with other cars, they will only need about a quart of oil at 150k to 200k plus miles. I have brought this matter to the Toyota service representative when I took the car in for the 65k miles service and of course the typical default, trained, conditioned, dealer service representative response was that it is normal to have this amount of burning oil. It is after I read other tc owner reports that were filed with NHTSA that this is reoccurring problem with this vehicle. I am requesting NHTSA to look into a recall to fix this issue. Thanks.
My engine seized. Long story short, my car was burning oil at a rate of 1 quart every 700 miles. I was taking my car to a Toyota dealership every 5000 miles for my free oil changes. No one noticed I was burning that much oil until I started hearing sounds from my engine. It was too late at that point. There was permanent engine damage confirmed by 2 mechanics at private shops. After adding high mileage oil to my car to slow down the oil consumption after a month of hearing the sound and noticing the amount of oil being burned, the engine siezed less than a month after that. I had to replace the whole engine block. Corporate Toyota covered the brand new engine but I had to pay for service (all done at another dealership) which came out to $3000 out of my pocket.
I purchased my car new from the dealership and my first oil changes I went to the dealership because of oil consumption and they said it was normal for the car to use 1 quart for every 1200 miles. Every mechanic I have spoken to said to me that is not normal for a new car used for daily driving. Now I'm at 73k miles and I have records of every oil change being done at every 3k miles and between oil changes I have to put in at least 4 to 5 quarts in between and now I have a rod knock sounds like a bearing due to no oil in the car when I checked right before my next oil change. I researched the internet and realized that this is very common and Toyota is aware of the oil consumption issue on these engines but has not issues a recall just a TSB. Since the engine burned oil so that it was empty I believe that that is a product defect (covered under warranty) and the TSB shows that its a piston rod bearing issue in the 2az-fe engine. I also beleive that Toyota is taking advantage of the consumer by stating that it is normal to have 1quart of oil loss per every 600-1200 miles. That does not even make sense for a new car with a modern engine and its in the users manual. This is happening to alot of people and its between 50k to 100k miles when the warranty expires. Because of this the Toyota dealership told me that I need a new engine and they wont help me. They are making money from this engine defect and are taking full advantage of it without placing a recall only a TSB. . Read more...
For over a year I have noticed that my car has been consuming large amounts of oil. I noticed it when I still had 1,000 miles until my next oil change. My check engine light came on and I immediately went to advance auto parts to check the oil. I needed to put 3 and a half liters in because it was almost completely out. Scion tc's only hold 4 liters of oil. So my car burned up almost all of the oil and I had only driven 2,000 miles since my last oil change!! this is absurd, I bought my car brand new and have kept it serviced regularly and just paid it off! I should not be having this problem, but I've done my research and know that this is not an error on my part for not taking proper care of my car, it is a defect in the engine. I have a friend who services cars at Toyota and he said that the engine was built backward and that's why the oil consumption is very large. The only way to fix this is to rebuild the engine. I really am upset by this because like I said earlier I bought this brand new and have it paid off. I should not be having this issue, and since there is a defect in the way the engine was built I would hope that Toyota would recall this because it is not up to quality standard plus they need to take ownership of their mistake, and this is a big one that I shouldn't have to go into financial debt over.
I took my vehicle into the passport Toyota dealership for service and it was determined that my vehicle did not have any oil in it. I was informed that similar models were experiencing "oil consumption issues", and I should drive approximately 1200 miles and return to the dealership for further testing. After completion of the test, it was determined that my vehicle was in fact burning oil excessively but Toyota would not pay to have this problem fixed because my VIN # was selected to be apart of the Toyota service program.
Excessive oil consumption. Toyota reports a TSB regarding a piston issue. My engine could be at risk on breakdown. Toyota was and has been aware of the issue since 2007 but continued to sell vehicles without fixing the problem.
