2 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 11/11/2015

The rubber piece that covers the switch for the rear hatch has melted for the third time. I had it replaced under warranty the first time and then again when the whole garnish fell off and was replaced under a "warranty enhancement". In other words a recall because it had happened to so many Scion Xb owners. I am very disappointed that they continue to replace a defective part with a defective part! now I am supposed to fork out $90. 00 for another part that is going to eventually do the same thing. This is clearly a widespread problem. All you have to do is a search for "melted swich covers on Scion Xb" on your computer and it brings up many sites. There are blogs and even a facebook page dedicated to the faulty handles! when there are companies who are making a profit producing enhanced replacement parts for your car because Toyota won't something is wrong. I will be buying my replacement parts from them. Very disappointed in Toyota.

3 Body problem of the 2004 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 09/17/2015

While opening rear hatch the handle pulled off. No undue pressure was used, it literally just pulled off into my hand as I attempted to simply open the door. I have read numerous complaints of this problem with this particular year & model scion , this is obviously a manufacturing defect. Scion/Toyota refuses to replace the part without a substantial charge.

10 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 05/31/2013

The handle to my back trunk door is made of some sort of plastic and living in the south has possibly caused it to start melting. It has slowly melted, dripping tar like material onto my rear bumper of my Scion Xb. Every time I open my trunk, the black tar material will end up on my hands and I am unsure of how safe this product is to my health.

11 Body problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 03/07/2013

My 10 year old son was simply opening the back hatch to get out a bag and the whole rear door garnish broke off. It broke from simple designed use and now hangs off the vehicle and the hatch will not close properly. Scion issued a warranty enhancement program but it was only good for one year and does not cover my vehicle now even though the part is faulty and the vehicle is now dangerous to drive. Please insist on a vehicle recall so there is no time limit to fix the problem.

Failure Date: 12/05/2012

Rear door latch broke off when pressure was applied. Will not release.

16 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

The vehicles rear hatch handle has a design flaw which makes the part fail. The rear hatch handle is fastened to the trunk/hatch with plastic clips. When the release button for the hatch is pressed, it only unlocks the hatch door. It does not spring upward like other vehicles. In the manual it shows to hold the release button and lift with the hatch handle. Because there are no springs to help lift it applies lots of pressure to the clips which weaken them. Eventually, they just snap. They are also known for snapping when the hatch is locked, in cold weather, and there are even reports of the release button melting. Another problem develops when the hatch handle is completely removed after failing. There are holes for the clips which are left open if this piece is not attached. These holes can allow exhaust and other emissions into the vehicle. Lastly, there is a possibility of becoming trapped in the vehicle. If there were an accident that left the side doors inoperable and the person(s) in the vehicle were able to exit safely through the hatch, they are unable to do so. This vehicle is not equipped with any type of manual release (which is not required by law). However, rescuers cannot open the hatch from the outside either. This is because when this defective part breaks off, it leaves the dangling release button. Consumers are capping the wires so it doesn't rip off while driving. There is now no way to exit the vehicle.

18 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

2006 Toyota Scion Xb rear hatch release. It broke without any faulty use. The Toyota replacement is not substantial enough to repair the problem. The broken part interferes with the plate lights, the electric hatch release and allows exhaust fumes to enter vehicle through normally covered holes. I just want to list my complaint along with the othe several thousand having the same problem. Thank you.

19 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 02/17/2012

The rear hatch handle on my 06 Scion Xb has broken off on the right side and now just hangs there. I can hardly ever get into my trunk because of this. I am worried that it will come off completely as I am driving down the road and become a dangerous hazard for another driver. Also the rear latch button rubber cover becomes so hot that it begins to melt. When you push the button it will leave black reidue on your hands. This prevents the button from working and unlatching the back hatch. Not sure if it is melting due to electrical problems or the sun. Worried could get to hot and catch fire sometime.

20 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 02/20/2011

I have a 2006 Scion Xb. The back latch (made of fiberglass) has completely broken off on one side. It is impossible to use and is impossible to get into the car using the rear entrance. It is expensive to repair. This is a safety hazard in that if some one was in the car in an accident or if this was the only access to get into the car to help victims access is not available. I have seen 4 cars of this model just in my area that have the same problem. If you have to wait until there is an actual accident this is a inferior system!.

21 Body problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

Rear hatch outside opening mechanism broke after routine use. This appears to be design flaw using flimsy plastic door apparatus. This is dangerous situation - it has resulted in improper closing of rear hatch door which can cause exhaust fumes to enter the inside on the car. This could also cause objects to fall out of the rear of the car while on the road. (anecdotal note: I see numerous scions of this era with taped up rear hatch door handles indicating that they have the same problem.

22 Body problem of the 2010 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

I have a rs 7. 0 which has the body kit. Very often, when I turn, especially if there is a passenger or extra weight in the car, it sounds as though the front wheels are scraping against the body of the car. Of course, the dealer can't hear the sound at all. But that is what I expected. I just hope that when the tire blows because of wear, I don't get killed. The car is almost three months old and this has been happening since I bought it.

23 Body problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 05/19/2010

Trunk latch came off, made of plastic and held by two screws, happened twice, first time had to glue screw to thread on plastic latch base but it wont hold. Door will not open while this problem persists. A 4 door xb without a trunk access? c'mon man!!.

24 Body problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Scion Xb. The contact stated that there was a leak in the rear floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis however, the cause of the leak was not identified. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to return the vehicle to the dealer for further inspection. The vehicle was returned to the dealer but the cause of the leak was still not identified. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least five times with no remedy. In addition, mold began to grow in the vehicle and emit an offensively strong and distasteful odor. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage and VIN were unavailable. The current mileage was 35,000.

25 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 04/18/2009

Problem #1: front windshield cracked. I replaced the windshield and it cracked again on the replacement. A small pebble hit the windshield while driving on the freeway that caused it to crack. Problem #2: rear hatch handle broke when it was used. I opened the rear hatch handle and the plastic piece broke off in the process almost injuring my hand. I contacted scion about the situation they that they were aware of. They required me to receive an assessment from the dealer. I drove to my nearest dealer and they did not require an assessment because they said the problem was already known. I contacted scion again and they get back to me for a solution. The solution was for me to replace the rear handle with a high price amount. The rear handle expensive should have been taken care of on scion's end, especially when a near injury could have take place. I received case number for my records.

26 Body problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

Trunk latch broke off when trying to open. Made very flimpse and will not withstand regular use.

27 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

Rear right lip of the bumper fell off while driving.

28 Body problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 03/01/2006

Earlier in 2011 while accessing the rear of my car through the hatch door, my hatch handle snapped off completely. After further looking into the issue, I discovered that the plastic clips built into the handles broke. My local Toyota dealer is aware of the "issue" and acknowledges that it is a "defect" with this specific make and model car. On top of that, I have both seen many broken hatch handles while on the road, and read many other incidents similar to mine on several notable scion forums online. Others report that their Toyota dealers fixed the issue, free part, but still charged upwards of $100 for labor. I would like to see this problem get fixed by Toyota as it is clearly a defective part.
