4 Structure problem of the 2010 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 12/29/2009

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Scion Xb. The contact stated the instrument panel would not illuminate. The dealer advised he was unfamiliar with the failure and was unable to offer a remedy. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileages were 1,100. Updated 06/21/10 the consumer stated the back ground of the gauges on the instrument panel were black and the pointers and numbers were red. In dull light and at night, with the panel lights on, everything was visible. However, as day light became brighter, the ability to read the instrument panel became difficult. The consumer stated the problem is not electrical, however this is the closest component we have to describe the instrument panel. I also chose structure as a component as well, as it may just be a design issue. Updated 06/24/10.

5 Structure problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 11/14/2009

The handle for the back hatch on my 2006 Scion Xb has broken. It is still connected by the wires. The handle is very flimsy and there is nothing else to grab onto when trying to open the hatch. I haven't gotten it into the dealer yet, so I don't know how much it will be to fix.

6 Structure problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Rear door latch assembly came completely off, disconnected from car door when engaging latch and pulling up in an attempt to open the rear door.

7 Structure problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 01/05/2009

Approximately 3 foot horizontal crack appeared on the bottom right side of windshield, beginning at the extreme base of the windshield (around the black defrost vent) as it sat parked in an enclosed garage. The crack extends left toward driver's side. Aeronautics expert who examined the crack confirmed that the crack was not due to a rock or other foreign object, but that there is most likely a design flaw, or that there is a bolt or other piece of equipment fastened too tightly.

8 Structure problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

Rear right lip of the bumper fell off while driving.

9 Structure problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 04/22/2008

The front windshield of my 2006 Scion Xb developed a crack while I was driving and no other cars were in front of me to toss rocks. There was no impact from a rock or anything before the crack appeared. I heard a pop and discovered the crack. The pop sound was not the normal rock on the windshield sound. There is no sign of any impact on the outside of the windshield in this area. The crack developed in the area behind the rearview mirror and is an "l" shaped crack. The first day the crack was about 8-10" in length and has progressed another 2-4" over the last four months. I feel there is a problem with the design of this vehicle that is causing so many xb owners to have the exact same issue.

10 Structure problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 01/28/2008

I bought a used '06 Scion Xb in Aug. '07 & w/in a week my windshield(ws) was leaking bigtime. There were no cracks & the carfax report came back clean w/ no prior accidents. I called the dealer & since it was under warranty they had a local ws CO. Replace the ws. That weekend I washed my car & noticed water running down the inside of the ws again by the rearview mirror. Still no obvious reason of why it should be leaking. I was extremely concerned about electrical issues w/ the water & the fact that I live in portland which meant lots of rain. I called the dealer again & this time I asked for another CO. To replace the glass, thinking the other CO. Had just done a bad job. After the 2nd time of fixing it I thought everything was fine until I noticed loud popping & cracking noises while driving. A couple of the pops were so loud it scared me because it sounded like the whole ws cracked, but there were no visible cracks. Just in case I was hearing things, I had my husband ride along & he heard the same noises. A week or two later, I noticed that when the ws was fogging there were stream lines from water on the left inside and I knew those shouldn't be there because the last CO. Had put in a brand new ws. Later, I finally noticed water dripping in the same spot & I knew it was leaking again. Frustrated & not wanting to deal w/ it, I continued to drive the car with a leaky ws for about week, until I went through a car wash & noticed a strong stream of water running down the left inside of the ws inside the car. The following Monday (today) I called the dealership. I'm taking the car in tonight. I'm suggesting, some sort of extra strength seal & possibly a sway bar to stabilize the vehicle more. If this doesn't work then I want to trade it in for a newer xb or possibly something else. My warranty is only for 100,000 miles & I'm half way there & I don't want to get to the point where I have to start paying to replace any of this when it is obviously a flaw with the car.

11 Structure problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 03/01/2006

: the contact stated there are numerous rust spots located on the lift gate and front passenger side door frame. The dealership and manufacturer have been alerted and denied the problem. They explained this is a paint defect. Updated 6/30/2006 - the consumer believes that the rust may have developed as a result of weld splatter. The rust appeared at the junction between the door frame and opposing rubber door seal.

12 Structure problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 08/02/2005

Glass roof/sunroof assembly constantly creaks and pops. Taken to dealership and TSB performed, noises went away for approximately 2 weeks and noise returned. Took back to dealership, was informed it needed "lubrication" and it should be fine, noises have returned again. Also, the hatchback always rattles, as recommended by a scion message board, slightly larger bump stops were purchased, which lessened the rattling, but is still present when going over bumps, sounds like if hatch was not fully closed, but it is. All of the above information is for a scion tc, option for this vehicle was not available in complaint form so a Scion Xb was selected.
