Automatic Stability Control (asc) problems of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Problem one: "brake" warning light comes on at random but then doesn't come back on at next restart of car. Brake fluid and all mechanics are ok. Braking doesn't seem to be affected but I am worried that there will be an abs failure that I'll ignore because of this faulty warning light. Sometimes the stability control activates for no reason at low speed. Problem two: frame is nearly rusted out. There is a recall for the similar tundra, and supposedly a recall for these particular Sequoias in some states, but nothing comes up for my vehicle in indiana. Vehicle, purchased from Toyota dealer oxmoor Toyota a year ago, is unsafe to drive.

2003 Toyota Sequoia vehicle skid control failure. Mechanic told the consumer that they were having problems with the lights. Mechanic suggested replacing both controlling computers. The consumer stated as soon as the vehicle moves forward, the vsc off and vsc trac lights illuminate.

Vsc trac off lights are on after I start the car and put into drive. Dealers service department said vsc computer is faulty and needs replacement, but they will not pay for the replacement because the warranty has expired.

I own a 2003 Toyota Sequoia that has the vsc light on. The dealer is stating that the vsc computer and possibly another computer need to be replaced. The danger is losing control of the vehicle during brake malfunction. I have read of several others having the same problem. I have not had the vehicle repaired due to the high cost.

2003 Sequoia limited vsc / trac control lights have been on almost continuously since 3/1/2007, indicating that the stability control and traction control were not functioning. At various times the abs kicked in even though the brakes were not applied. In wet conditions on 3/17/07, the SUV did not properly respond to brake or steering, causing the SUV to drift into the oncoming lane. Fortunately, there was no traffic in the lane at the time. This was a huge safety issue. At the dealer, codes c1241, c1231, c1223, and c1203 came up. Diagnosis - translate and skid control computers needed to be replaced. Toyota tsbs br002-03 and br003-03 appeared to be related, and lead me to believe there was a known flaw in computer logic.

I own a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. For the third time now, the vsc off and vsc trac lights have illuminated for no reason. Local Toyota dealer can't figure it out and every time it's a different diagnose. I have purchased Toyota's for their reliability, but this one has me thinking otherwise. I saw on an edmunds forum site that other folks have reported this to the NHTSA gov site. I thought it is a good idea since it has to do with a brake system. From the number of complaints on the forum sites I think Toyota has a problem they don't want to admit. That is until someone gets hurt.

Last month, the vehicle stability control (vsc) feature of my 2003 Toyota Sequoia failed. As a result, a safety feature (the system designed to help maintain control of the vehicle in a skid situation) which was a reason I purchased this particular SUV was not engaged (I. E. , the skid protection feature was not functional). The failure is alleged to have resulted from an open module in the electronic control unit that governs the vsc system. The controller was replaced at a Toyota dealership.

Trac,vsc, brake light had been coming on and then going out. This particular incident involved them coming on during a turn into traffic at which time all power was lost nearly causing an accident. Dealer treated this as 2 different problems:an induction service was performed for the "hesitation" at my expense, and a brake booster gasket and assembly were installed under the warranty. The lights continued to go off and on from time to time, but the car did not lose power again after this "fix". The lights continued to come on and off intermittently until in August 2006 the check engine light and vcs/trac lights came on and would not go out. This time, my dealer replaced the oxygen sensor at my expense. Now, with 70,000 miles on 9-26-07 the vsc/trac & check engine lights came on while traveling on the road and will not go out on turning off the engine as they sometimes did in the past. I believe after reading all the complaints about this problem on various internet sites some sort of action should be taken at Toyota's expense. I am also filing a report about the new rear window motor and hatch release handle I had to replace in July on this vehicle which also is mentioned in many reports I've read on the internet. I can't tell you how many failures on the light situation I've had because they've been in the dozens.

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal, the vsc/abs/brake controller warning light illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel and the front end of the vehicle began shaking excessively. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times in which the technicians concluded that the computerized system sensor failed. The technicians replaced the translate computer, the ecu, the transmission temperature sensor, and the brake power booster. None of the repairs have remedied the failure. The manufacturer was investigating the failures. The failure mileage was 9,322 and the current mileage was 122,000. Updated 11/10/09 the consumer stated the vsc/brake and abs lights have been on, since taking ownership of the vehicle. When the lights are on, the front of the vehicle shakes and the vehicle looses power for approximately 2-3 seconds and then regains power again. The skid control computer and brake power booster were replaced. Updated 11/16/09.
