36 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2014

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stability control, traction control, and the check engine warning lights suddenly remained illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,000.

37 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

At random times, the vsc and brake lights will come on. When this happens, the brakes do not work properly. They severely grind and stopping is nearly impossible. The only solution is to completely turn the car off and restart. I have taken my vehicle to Toyota many time over the course of several years. This is very dangerous as I have children riding in the vehicle!! Toyota either said there is nothing wrong or that a sensor will need to be replaced which costs approximately $1600. 00. This is a common issue with older Sequoias and should be a recall. It should be free of charge to the owner! I should not have to pay for something Toyota did not do right!.

38 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2014

Vcs off light, vcs trac light and check engine light all came on at the same time and will not go off. Understand there is a danger of crash due to this condition.

39 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2014

I have my a/c on and the brake light turns on and trac and vsc lights come on. This has been heaping since 60000 miles and there was a recall on it but not on mine. They do test and can't find the problem. When I trun the car off they come off.

40 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

Vehicle almost lost control during a 25mph turn in light rain condition. The vehicle has brand new tires as well. This is a known issue with many Toyota Sequoia vehicles and Toyota refuses to acknowledge fault. The failure to announce a recall on the vsc pressure sensor unit will cause the vehicle to lose control, skid, loss of abs and subsequently lead to crash.

41 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Upon normal driving the vehicle would not accelerate accurately and quickly enough after making a left turn. The vehicle would also randomly illuminate 3 indicator lights when the brake pedal is depressed. The 3 indicators are brake, trac off, vsc off. Before these lights illuminate the vehicle's brake pedal would become very hard to press causing the brake pedal to require much more force applied to it thus causing a decrease in stopping distance which is a very serious safety issue.

42 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

Vsc/abs and trac lights came on. Took in to dealer replaced skid control computer and still lights stayed on. Now I must replace yaw sensor for more money. This is an issue with most Sequoias of the 2003 year model.

43 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2013

While driving, brake light illuminates - has been happening for past month. On 10/19/13, trying to stop at a light and when stepped on brakes, the abs light, tcs light, and brake lights all illuminated and the brakes failed - started pulsating. Pavement was dry and did not step on brakes hard or fast - just slowing down for light. Had to pull over to side to avoid hitting car. Took to dealer said was abs computer and not in recall. Extended warranty does not cover abs computer. Service was not performed. Looking to replace computer cheaper. Dealer service check in lady said this is an issue with our year/make, yet there is no recall for failing brakes??.

44 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

Received Toyota factory recall for corrosion-resistant compound due to excessive frame rust. Called local dealer and also factory Toyota for appointment. Took the vehicle in to the dealership. One day later received phone call that my vehicle was safe and that they had sprayed this coating on the vehicle. I picked up vehicle and this corrosive chemical is dripping of the vehicle and is not drying. Concerned for environment and also, I have no idea of how vehicle was inspected assuring that the frame is safe.

45 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2013

Toyota Sequoia 2003 - within months of taking new car delivery, vsc abs and trac lights would blink intermittently and on occasion the auto would decelerate. As the issue was intermittent, dealership was unwilling/unable to diagnose. Trouble would continue with less frequent deceleration but more frequent warning light illumination until, after a few years, the warning lights stayed on and involuntary deceleration seemed to cease. Two different factory dealerships provided two different diagnoses. One said yaw sensor and other sensors need replacement (out of warranty); the other, more recently said that brake booster and actuator need replacement (out of warranty). Vehicle continues to brake normally and abs does function keeping the SUV steerable during panic stops. Traction and stability control issues were not tested by this driver. Search of internet based user groups shows this problem common in earlier year Sequoia/tundra models. Costs of repairs range from $1600 for yaw sensors to $3700 for brake booster and actuators. Toyota USA is unresponsive unless repairs are undertaken and makes no warranty of cooperation should repairs prove ineffective or unnecessary. This appears to be an ongoing issue with this and other 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5 and limited models.

46 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2013

After skidding in gravel, the skid control computer warning lights activated upon getting back on the highway and reaching 40mph speed, vehicle randomly operates at lower speed when driving on the highway at 60 mph, when towing the changing speed is dangerous. Toyota dealer states my Sequoia is not covered on recall due to VIN # although its the same computer issue. Repair cost from the dealer $900 plus tax to replace skid control computer.

47 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2013

I was driving down the highway and my vsc trac lights came on along with my engine light. When I got home, I looked at my vehicle manual to determine what had happened. I attempted to remedy the problem as suggested by Toyota, unfortunately, nothing changed. Approximately 2 weeks later my brake light intermittently turned on & off. Less than 5 months earlier, I had my all of my brakes replaced, so I can't imagine that my brakes are faulty. I became alarmed by these electronic miscues - so I went online to explore whether this was a common thread with other Sequoia owners. I discovered very quickly that there are many people who have had problems with their vsc / engine / and brake lights becoming activated. I was hoping this problem might be covered under a recall, but it appears that it is not. I am hoping for a remedy that won't have extensive costs to me.

48 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2013

The Toyota Sequoia went nose down and started to make a grinding noise pulling hard to the right. Loss of power happened and I had no control. I tried to accelerate but it seemed like there was no response. It has done this three times. I feel like I will hit someone or someone will hit me!.

49 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

My wife was on freeway, driving our 2003 Toyota Sequoia limited 2wd, when vsc light lit up and a buzzer sounded. At the same time, her vehicle started to decelerate on its own, causing vehicles behind her to have to brake to keep from rear-ending her vehicle. This was accompanied by a horrific grinding and banging sound. My wife found a safer place to pull to the side of the freeway and stop the vehicle. A tow truck was called and vehicle was "flat-bed" towed to repair garage.

50 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2013

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vsc trac, vsc and the abs warning lights illuminated. The contact mentioned that when she attempted to engage the brakes, the brake seized, causing the vehicle to slide across the pavement. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the sensor position for the steering angle sensor needed to be replaced and the electronic control unit needed to be updated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10v176000 (electronic stability control, traction control system). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.

The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The failure mileage was unavailable. .

54 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2012

There was no accident, but one is coming unless this gets fixed. The vtrac control system that there is a recall on select models in the 2003 model year is affecting mine as well, Toyota states they won't fix it under recall despite being a serious safety hazard.

55 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

Vsc, trac, brake lights.

56 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2012

Vsc trac, vsc off, brake, abs lights. . . All on, all at once. How do we add our name to the complaint? I have a 2003 . Vsc & trac lights started coming on around 112800 k. I found out many people has the same issues and same problem with Toyota Sequoia. The lights continued to come on constantly I took it to the dealer & they said it needed 2 computers-$2700. I told them the problem was documented and asked them to contact Toyota but to no avail. I hope NHTSA would do something about it.

57 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that she received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 10v176000 (electronic stability control) and took the vehicle to a dealer for repairs however, the dealer stated that the repair repairs could not be performed because the check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they transferred her back to the dealer ship. The failure mileage was 98,000.

58 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2012

Vsc trac, vsc off, brake, abs lights. . . All on, all at once. There is obviously a quality control issue with these that Toyota does not want to be on the hook for. Many others went to the national highway safety program and filed a complaint. If they get enough of these they will go to the manufacturer and issue a recall. ## VIN passed ## Toyota Sequoia 2003 ##.

59 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

I just bought this used 2003 Toyota Sequoia on may 25, 2012. I noticed the warning lights indicating a defective traction control system and abs system on my way home from the dealership. They assured me the system works fine and that it has something to do with the computer module. All the following warning lights are on at the same time: trac, vsc off, and abs lights. I also checked the vehicle history on the Toyota website and it is recorded that the Toyota dealer worked on this problem on 07/23/2009 when the car had 97,187 miles. I have done a lot of research on this and it seems 50,000 Sequoia's were recalled for this problem, however, my Sequoia's VIN was not on the list. Please help. In addition the lighting on the dashboard does not work.

60 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2012

When have the car on and running the traction light brake light and vsc light come on at the same time.

61 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2012

The vehicle abs, trac and vsc trac sensors are on and will not go away unless computers and sensors are replaced. Dealers have indicated the replacement of sensors and computers may not resolve the problem.

62 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

During my work commute this morning the "vsc trac" and "vsc off" lights came on at the same time and stayed on.

63 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2011

The vsc and trac lights started coming after a clucking sound heard from underneath the car followed by a loss of power. After turning the car off and back on again it goes away. But it comes back intermittently. The problem needs to be fixed. I am concerned about the safety of my family as we will need to go on a long family trip in a few weeks. Please help.

64 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Abs,vac,trac light on.

65 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2011

One day the vsc trac, vsc off, brake, abs lights all came on the dash, shortly after this happened we received a recall notice in the mail stating this exact problem. So I made an appointment at our local Toyota dealership for them to look at it and fix. The first time I dropped it off for the day they called after and said the machine to test the vehicle was down, and that it would be a day or two before it was repaired, well I needed my vehicle so I went a picked it up. About a month later I made another appointment and returned to the dealership where they finally tested my vehicle and proceeded to tell me that my vehicle did not fit the criteria for VIN identification. I really do not know how this is possible considering all the information stated on the recall is exactly what is wrong with my vehicle. After days of research I have learned that multiple sensors and ecu needs to be replaced costing in the range of $2000. 00 plus dollars. Also I have read multiple consumer complaints just like this one. These lights are on the vehicle for a reason and Toyota put the recall out for a reason so fix the problems!!!!.

66 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

I just purchased a used 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5 2 days ago from the dealer. Although, the vehicle comes under no warranty, I would like to file a defect that has been reported by other 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5 owners. The problem trac off light came on, vsc light came on and the brake light came on. I called the dealership and was told that they need to see the vehicle and it was the skid ecu and it needed to be replaced at $1200. 00 for the part and $232. 30 for labor. The service tech told me this is a major safety issue as this is the brain of the braking system and the abs will lock up and the brakes will fail. The lights remained on until the next day. I went on line to research the cause and defect and found out that there are quite a few owners experiencing the problem I have. Please investigate and hoping to resolve this malfunction before people are killed.

67 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2011

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where the dealer performed a diagnostic test and the result indicated a faulty vehicle stability control system. The dealer also stated that the vehicle stability control system needed to be replaced. The contact noticed a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 10v176000 (electronic stability control) and notified the manufacturer. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was manufacturer after the dates indicated in the recall. The failure mileage was 105,000.

68 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2011

I just purchased a used 2003 Toyota Sequoia a month ago from the dealer. Although, the vehicle comes under no warranty, I would like to file a defect that has been reported by other 2003 Toyota Sequoia owners. The problem - vsc trac light on, off, brake light , engine light stayed on. I took my vehicle to the dealership and was told that they changed the air/fue; sensor for the check engine light and the vsc trac light were cleared. However, driving the vehicle back home, vsc trac light on/off and brake light came on steady. I went on line to researched the cause and defect and found out that there are quite a few owners experiencing the problem I have. Please investigate and hoping to resolve this malfunction. Thanks.

69 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

It was raining, I was going aruond a turn ,10 - 15 mph the back tire started to spin, the vsc trac, vsc off,and abs lights came on, this is after the trk. Went to the dealer to check out a recall on the vsc. They said it was'nt under a recall, we parked the Sequoia and wont drive it untill it's repaired, safety reasons, I moved it , tryed to go over a curb on an angle and the right rear tire just was spining on the asphalt road. This cant be good for the Sequoia ,its 4 wheel drive, and its making a noise, in the drive train ,clunking?? it slides in the rain (bad ) and wont stop on wet roads very well , it slides to a stop. I dont have alot of time to research the vsc problem ,but it sounds like all the Sequoia's 03-05 have the same problem, for the cost of this trk. I hope Toyota will fix this problem.

70 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2011

Vehicle stability control (vsc), traction control (trac), and antilock brake system (abs) dash lights continuously illuminated indicating that all systems are off or malfunctioning. Can confirm that the trac, vsc, and abs are inactive all or most of the time. The abs intervenes at random under normal braking conditions without cause at low speed (less than 20mph) and makes braking difficult and inconsistent in conditions where abs is not normally needed. In that situation the brake pedal becomes hard to depress and braking force is inconsistently applied with little control given to the operator in turn extending the braking distance without due cause or warning. After much research online I have found numerous reports stating identical and/or similar observations and experiences. It is my opinion that the problem lies in the vsc control module, a known problematic component on this generation of Sequoia and more specifically model year 2003 vehicles. A recall for the vsc system was issued in April/may 2010 upgrading the control logic of the vsc system in certain model year 2003 vehicles. Let it be known that the vehicle in question had the recall work done in June of 2011 which did not remedy the issue as it has been either intermittent or constant since then.
