Vsc off/vsc trac light started coming on. At initial start of Toyota Sequoia after putting it in drive, vehicle would shudder and cut off ignition. This would cause a brief stall, and will not accelerate. This occurs everytime vehicle is used. Fault is dtc c1231. Vehicle skid control sensor is faulty.
My complaint is the abs/trac control system in my Toyota Sequoia. It engaged without any reason and I lost power when I was driving in a hot day on the freeway. I had to pull over. There are many other owners who are reporting this issue on many websites. Does someone have to die for you guys to take any actions.
This is an ongoing problem that we noticed a couple of years ago--but every time I've taken it to a dealer, we've been brushed off. While turning on a slight incline in my 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5, we notice the traction control engages. The vehicle slows considerably to the point that we have been crawling and even blocking an intersection. The traction control also engages when we turn into our driveway or when we turn onto side streets. Cars behind us have been able to go around us or have slowed until we can move again. Unfortunately, when I took the car to the dealership, we were told at first it was just our tires. Then they told us it was going to cost over a thousand dollars to repair because the computer system was bad. Our experience is exactly that of the most recent recall of other 2003 Sequoias, but our vehicle was not recalled.
Vsc/trac light warning & sensor is on. . . . Parking brake goes off & on. Vehicle stop suddenly. I took to dealer & diagnosed it as "steering angle sensor" for abs hard code c1231. . . . Total repair quote $743.
Abs, vsc/trac lights are "on" all came up at the same time. It was a rainy day in houston, TX. Had to run 55mph at 65mph speed limit due to rain for safety pre-caution. At the time I reached my work place (approx 10miles from my residence), all 3-lights (abs, vsc, trac) turned on. I am the 2nd owner of this vehicle, acquired it from Toyota dealer 15 October 2009. With this incident, got curious of any recalls, complaints or issues with 2003 Sequoia. Unfortunately, I just realized that I am among owners having the same issues.
Took vehicle to get a calif. Smog check. Smog test was performed and after test passed, vehicle kept reporting trak control on console display and grinding sounds clicking sounds and short "shaking" on the steering wheel for ~15 seconds. Took vehicle to Toyota dealer and had it repaired. Traction control system computer had to be replaced.
Vsc/trac light starting going on and off than stayed on than the slip indicator light went on and the buzzer would ring a few times than the rear tires skidded on their own and seemed to kind of "lock up" than it went away. This happened 3x in a weeks period so I looked it up in my owner's manual and it said to take it in to the Toyota dealer which I did on 11/03/09. This is the 2nd Toyota sr5 I have bought. I traded my 2001 sr5 in for this one because the vsc trac lights kept going on in it too but the electric windows stopped working as well. We bought the 36 months, 36,000 mile extended warranty which the salesman told us would cover "everything" bumper to bumper and that it was "better" than the previous certified platinum extended warranty that we had purchased with our 2001 sr5. I bought this 2003 sr5 on 12-15-07 and this is the first time I had any problem with the lights or skidding. I was taking my grandson to the dentist when it happened and it was scary. Thank god no one got hurt. I immediately took it in to the dealer only to find out that the skid control replacement is not covered and that the cost for repairs would be $2,000. Well I do not have $2,000 to pay for this. I remembered having received a questionnaire in the mail a month or so ago from the NHTSA requesting information specifically about the vsc trac and slip indicator lights so I did fill it out and send it in, however I had only had the vsc lights go on at that point and only recently the slip indicator light and buzzer stared going off. It is quite obvious that there is a defective part & hazardous and should be recalled. I have left my car at the dealer and will have it towed home as it is not safe to drive like that as I do not have the $2,000 to fix it. I spoke with gary hewitt at NHTSA on 11/04/09 and he said that michael packard would be back in the office on 11/16/09 in ohio and since he is conducting this investigation, would probably want to see my car before repairs.
Vech. Skid control alarm and reaction takes place without warning or justification. Vehicle brakes come on with warning and car shakes because the brakes which are automatically being applied and brake anti skid system is activated. This happened when traveling approx 45 mph. Thought I was going to die because of the violent reaction of the vech. This has happen more than five times and Toyota wants me to pay $2,100 to correct their engineering error. Should I submit a bill for mental anguish?.
We own a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The vehicle skid control (vsc) systems is failing. This first occurred shortly after owning the vehicle for 3 years. The system would suddenly activate while moving losing all power and most of the steering control. We reported it to the dealer offered to replace the computer for approx $2000, with no assurance that this would fix the issue. The problem would occur sporadically but now occurs constantly. This is dangerous when driving in traffic in perfect weather conditions.
My 2003 Toyota Sequoia's trac system is failing which is causing my car to brake automatically without warning. The car has been reliable until now. We were driving at about 35-40mph on a highway when suddenly the car just braked by itself without me stepping on the brakes. Soon after I noticed that the trac and abs lights were all on inside my dash. I was able to make it home but my family was terrified because we were almost struck from behind . The vehicle is not safe to drive under this condition . I have not been driving it because I can't afford to fix the problem and I don't want to get killed driving it . I am being told that it's $2000-3000 job . I bought the car because I wanted a safe and reliable car but it has now become an unsafe car and a headache. I am being told that I need a skid booster, brake booster and brake module. I think it's all part of the abs pump assembly. My mfg warranty has expired and my vehicle does have about 78k miles on it which puts me in a bad spot . Please help!.
Toyota Sequoia sr5 2003. Problem with trac/vsc and abs system are always lite up on the dashboard. This has been serviced by the dealer several months after I purchased the vehicle and several years after that. Continues to be a problem, it always is temporarily fixed by dealer and then reappears at a later date.
My abs, vehicle skid control and trac control system has failed. Trouble codes indicate system failure and will require new abs, trac and anti skid ecu. I have not had the repair done yet. I am concerned about the safety without these features. I am aware that there are several people having this same issue.
2003 Toyota Sequoia vsc trac control lights on instrument panel on all the time now I have reset them several times now and help from dealership is at it best a waste of time and money. As of this date I have only had two driving related incidents . On a trip to tenn this year after stopping for a break I started the vehicle up and started driving the lights came on and a loud clanging came from under the car as soon as I could pull over to investigate the problem it was apparent that something was wrong with the brakes as it was only a short distance to where I was going I proceeded on back roads with caution to where I was going and it was late so I would look at it in the morning. That night I spent most of it on the internet researching the problem and found several other people with the same problem on this model with the same results from there dealerships . The next morning I checked everything out only to find nothing apparently wrong reset the system and problem was gone I thought. On the return trip to fla. I encountered a heavy rain while driving while going around a long corner at a slower speed than posted the tires hit water running across the road and the car went out of control lights back on and a real scary battle to correct the car lucky for me there was no traffic on the road at that point as it took both sides of the road to bring it back under control . From what I have read this a problem with this vehicle that a lot of people are having being a mechanic all my life and a very experienced driver in extreme conditions I would not have been as lucky an I hate to think of the many women with kids in this car would have to go through this type of incident. Being a mechanic I have a good understanding of this problem and Toyota's solution to just keep changing out the computer at 2,000. 00 dollars a crack is only a bandaid not a fix . This condition needs to be addressed with totota as most of these car's are now of the age that this shows up.
I own a 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5 with 95000 miles. Vsc, trac, and abs lights came on. Dealership said that the codes are faulty ecu. Cost of repair was $1700. The following week lights came back on. This time they tell me it is a faulty speed sensor on the front right. They recalibrated the vehicle and said if it comes back the cost of the repair is $400. Following week, the lights come on, same code for the speed sensor, so I have it replaced. Two days later, the lights are back on. Not certain what will code this time. After reading several posts online, it looks like this is a recurring issue with this vehicle. So, I'm filing a complaint sense there hasn't been a recall.
One day while driving the warning lights for the vsc off and traction control went on, along with the check engine light. At this point we realized that our abs may have failed and our family was in danger. The brakes now lock and there is a grinding and swaying of the car. We'll be taking it in to be checked, obviously, but are concerned with the imminent safety issues along with the large number of similar complaints by other 2003 Sequoia owners.
Toyota Sequoia vsc trac lights on. Vehicle shudders when starting from a stop initially. Worried this could be a potential safety risk. Tundrasolutions. Com has many other owners of 2003 Sequoia complaints about exact problem.
My 2003 Toyota Sequoia has an issue with the vehicle stability control (traction control system). The vsc computer continues to break leaving the car with no traction control. On snowy and icy roads the car will spin out of control due to the size of the vehicle and no assistance from the vsc to slow the car down. I have to keep the car in 4wd all the time to keep it from sliding on snowy or wet streets. This is a known problem with the Toyota Sequoia and Toyota refuses to take responsibility for the issue. There are pages upon pages of complaints all over the internet describing the same issue. Toyota refuses to warranty the problem or conduct a recall. The part itself is approximately $1600. I have already had the vsc computer replaced once on the vehicle and now the new computer is broken again. It was first replaced on 1/24/07 when the vehicle had 25,253 miles on it. It broke again on 5/19/09 with 38,995 miles on it. The vehicle now has 43,000 miles on it and the vsc is still inoperable. I don't trust driving the car with my wife or child. But unfortunately I have to spend $2k to fix a vehicle just to trade it in. I have filed a complaint with Toyota north America. They refuse to acknowledge there is a problem and have told me I have to accept responsibility for the vehicle no longer being on warranty. Even though it only has 43,000 miles and they vsc has broken twice. I have grown increasing concerned about safety especially since I live in the midwest. Nothing has been done to resolve the problem. That is my issue.
Electronic stability control traction control system.
A vsc/ abs/ skid lights starts to trigger on my 2003 Toyota Sequoia limited 4wd which will create unnecessary grinding sound. . .
The traction control system on my 2003 Toyota Sequoia has gone out. Periodically the system will act like the vehicle is going into a skid. The vehicle only has 64,000 miles on it. Most of the time when I turn the vehicle on, the vsc system just lights up on the dashboard stating the system is disabled.
I own a 2003 Toyota Sequoia and have problems with the engine light going off and on due to the vsc/abs trac light related to the skid control computer since I bought it brand new. Now the light stays on and it's a safety issue now that it is out of warranty. I only have 56,000 miles on my car. During an internet search I find that multiple owners have had the same problem and have either been in accidents or almost in an accident. There should be a recall on this problem due to it safety issue. It is also very costly and the Toyota company doesn't seem to care. I have not been in an accident yet and hope I never will but it is safety concern.
Vsc/trac and abs lights came on and despite this being a common failure Toyota says I must pay $600+ to have a yaw sensor replaced. Toyota needs to step up to the plate and fix this problem.
Nhtsa recall # 10v176000 I took the vehicle to the dealer for this recall but the same lights stayed on after the dealer suppose to have fixed the problem. I inquired this with the service advisor and he told me that Toyota will not replace the ecu since it does not effect the performance of the vehicle. I discussed this issue with several mechanics and they all agreed that Toyota needs to replace the defected chip. After reaching online, I came across this government website. Under NHTSA recall campaign number: 10v176000, it clearly stated that " if the reflash cannot be completed on a particular vehicle, the ecu will be replaced with a new one. " I need your help to have Toyota to replace the defected ecu in my vehicle which was not done under the recall.
2003 Toyota sequioa vsc/trac saftey problem. Starts with the dash lights appearing and then can turn SUV off and/or turn brake lights off. A definite safety problem. Toyota really should recall.
2003 Toyota Sequoia vsc/trac light turns on for no reason and will not turn off unless engine is restarted.
Vsc and trak off warning dash light indicators continue to come on/off, now more frequent and intermittent loss of accelerations. Initial triggering of indicators was Feb 06 but were intermittent, now they are more frequent.
My 2003 Toyota Sequoia vsc traction system has failed 5 times. The system failed at 54,546, again at 78,358, again at 93,939, again at 104,238, and the last time at 145,000. The first time code c124 c1231 replaced steering sensor. The second time code c1231 replaced steering angle sensor. The third time code c1203 1231 replaced and reprogrammed steering angle sensor. The fourth time no code indicated, but replaced skid control ecm. The fifth time I brought in in for the recall, it did not qualify and the dealership would not diagnose without me paying for it, so I do not have a code yet. I am in a battle with Toyota and the dealership about who should pay for this defective system. I have paid portions the first 2 occasions. When the failure occurs it happens one of two ways. The first way is when I the vehicle is first started and is at about 4 miles per hour, the car thinks I am skidding, the brakes go on automatically, a horrible screeching sound occurs, and after a couple of seconds the brakes are released and the system is deactivated and both the vsc lights go on on the dashboard. The second way is that I start the car and at some time while driving the system shuts off without any warning and the lights on the dashboard go on indicating that the system is not engaged. I recently read about the mushy pedal syndrome, and I have experienced that as well, but I never associated the symptom with anything specific. When it happens it is often as I am leaving my 300ft driveway and entering my street.
Inside door handles have broken off on three of the doors. The only door that still works is the driver's side. I have to get out of the car and walk around opening everyone else's door so they can get out of the car. This is obviously not safe in the case of an accident, fire, etc where I might not be able to open all the doors in time. I am thoroughly disappointed by the design flaw that lead to this situation. Toyota wants over 200 per door to fix a problem that should never have happened. Anytime a passenger is trapped inside a car it can become a dangerous situation very quickly. The second problem that I have with the Sequoia involves the traction control system. It was fixed one time under a TSB, however, the problem has since returned. I do not feel like spending 100 for a diagnosis to tell me what I already know is wrong with the truck.
Toyota Sequoia 03 -- brake light has been coming on starting about 50,000 miles, it stays on for weeks then goes out, then comes on again. Both the vsc tracking light come on and off, now mostly on all the time and now the vehicle shakes and acts like the breaks are on without warning when driving. We have had it to the dealer and they have reset the light numerous times, but it never really lasts for long. I think there should be a recall on this, I know we can't be the first to complain about this. It is now becoming unsafe to drive because of the shaking and lack of steering control.
I had filled a complaint because of my 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The vsc trac light/vsc light/abs light stays on as a result of attempting to apply the switch. I contacted Toyota and they are telling me that my VIN # is not one for recall and that they are still investigating the issues. On this site it states that the issue is closed and Toyota is recalling them. What is the status? thanks.
2003 Toyota Sequoia. Consumer states extreme shaking and vibrations the consumer stated there are four active recalls on the vehicle. He took the vehicle to the dealer for the front suspension recall, but he believes the problem still exists as there is an extreme shaking and vibration coming from the vehicle. Also, the vehicle was taken to a different dealer for the traction control recall, but the trac off, vsc trac and abs lights are still on, the consumer was told it could be a myriad of things which could have caused the lights to remain on.
