27 problems related to electrical system have been reported for the 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia based on all problems reported for the 2005 Sequoia.
Rust developed on rear driver side under fender. Rear window glass malfunctioned and would not come down.
The rear door has continued to have issues repeatedly. The handle to open the rear door broke once and had to be replaced in order to open the door. The rear wiper has stopped working severall times, and the window in the rear door has stopped working multiple times despite repeated repairs.
Vsc trac off, the vehicle looses power completely and there is a grinding noise. My wife was driving on the interstate and lost power. Luckily, she was not in traffic. Restarted and made it home. The vsc trac off lights are still on. Very dangerous if the vehicle loosed power completely driving 70 mph on the interstate.
Vsc vsc traction control lights came on as well as the check engine light. The vehicle was accelerating poorly. The dealer replaced the air injection control drivers and then all of the warning lights were off. The following day all of the warning lights were back on again and the vehicle was accelerating poorly again. I returned the vehicle to the dealer and I was told that another repair was needed now. The air pump set needs to be replaced for $1,700. 00. Thousands of Sequoia owners have reported this problem but Toyota has not issued a recall.
As I started driving the car my vsc off vsc trac and break light when on when I tried to brake it made a terrible sound as I continued to press on the brake it made a hssssssing sound like air was coming out I got home and googled the problem I guess im not the only one Toyota is aware of problem but will not fix 2003 was fix but the rest aren't I did call Toyota and filed a complaint and the told me they couldn't do anything about it it was up to me and my responsibility if its an ongoing problem and very dangerous Toyota should recall I know have it with an experience mechanic and will hopefully get results soon.
Vsc trac, abs and brake alerts light up on dash board, noise when vehicle is initially turned on, the noise disappears after a few minutes but the alerts stay on. The vehicle also loses power (but the engine keeps running, just no power to accelerate) if I make a quick turn, loss of power lasts for a few seconds then turns back on.
While driving my vehicle on the highway to work, my brake warning light on the dash came on. I pulled over cut the truck off then back on, the light was gone. The next day driving home from work, it was pouring down rain and the brake warning light came on again, along with the trac and vsc warning lights. I was only driving about 25 mph since I was in the city and not on the highway yet. I pulled over cut the truck off and then back on, the lights were out, but within another mile they were back on. I avoided the highway since my brakes were having problems and it was pouring rain. The next day they were off so I drove back to work but when I was on the way home they all came back on, this time it was the afternoon and not raining so I took it to the Toyota dealership. They ran the codes and said my codes were c1247 stroke sensor and c136 master press sensor - they said this was part of a skid control ecm that controlled my antilock braking system! very scary to think my brakes were not functioning properly. I was told it could be fixed for $1042. 82 and may also need to replace the master cylinder at $715. 85. When I looked up the problem online I found that this was very common failure with 2003-05 models and that Toyota had already recalled the 2003 problem. My service tech said that he was not aware this was a common problem, although there is a service bulletin out for it. I was very scared to drive, but the tech said that my brakes still worked but that the anti lock braking system will not stop "on a dime" but will skid or slide. When I asked to speak to the service manager (all were on vacation) I spoke with the lead tech on shift, who told me alot of what I read online was junk and there was no recall on my 2005 Sequoia but he gave me a number to Toyota complaint department:1-800-331-4331. I have not driven my vehicle since taking it home that day.
Abs system would engage as vsc skid control light and brake light appears. System would reset after ignition was turned off and restarted. Mishap occurred several times on dry, smooth road surface at a low rate of speed with minimal pressure on brake pedal. I took car to dealer for repair. They replaced skid control ecu. Car repeated symptoms on my way home. I took it back to the dealer. They replaced brake booster. Car is working normally now.
Driving on the highway and took an exit. Slowed down and turned the steering wheel. The vsa and trac lights came on, the car lost power for several seconds, pushing the gas pedal didn't do anything for several seconds and eventually, heard a loud noise as if the engine was re-engaging and then some grinding noise and the car was back to "normal" driving condition. Since the first incident, has happened several times over again. Very dangerous considering there were cars behind me and could have ran into me. Similar experience pulling into a parking lot. Made a left turn and the car just stopped. People were honking behind me and the car would not move. Had to turn the ignition off and then back on to make it work again.
I started my car and drove off, and I noticed the vsc trac lights stayed on. The vehicle appears to drive fine, but the vsc trac lights stayed on. Upon doing my own research online I discovered that many Sequoia owners have experienced the same issue, but Toyota has refused to do a recall. This issue with vsc trac is a huge safety concern. Through my research I discovered that the vehicle could lose power at any time, and many owners state they hear a grinding noise as the vehicle pulls to the right or left.
My vsc trac, vsc off comes on all the time and don't go away. This appears to be a manufacture issue.
Vsc/trac control/ check engine dash warning lights come on and will not reset. Have had the vehicle at two different Toyota dealers and they cannot find the proplem. They want me to pay them to go into the motor to find the problem. Have found several complaints on line about the same issue.
Vsc, trac off, and emergency brake lights all stayed on after car was started. For the next week or so they would go off then come back on and then stayed on continually. I took it to my dealership on June 16, 2012 and they said the skid control computer needed replaced and they had to order the part. On June 19, 2012 they replaced this part at a charge of $1013. 56. On June 22, 2012 all these lights have again come on. I was told at the time of the initial diagnosis there had been a bulletin issued about this issue. I ask why it wasn't recalled if it was a known safety issue and they just said it was a bulletin not a recall.
About a month ago, beginning of March, the engine light, vsc trac light, trac off light, are all lite up when I turn on the engine. A week later, those light go off and on all the time and it still does it. From what I know, the trac off & vsc trac has something to do with the brake and I don't feel safe to drive in it. I went online and search to my problems and apparently, alot of people have the same problem as I do. Toyota need to have this recall and fix this problem to all their customers who have this problem.
The vsc, trak light and abs lights came on which in turn made the check engine light come on. They stay on continually. At first no code could be found. Then dealer stated that the ecu had to be replaced as well as air pump - both totalling over $3000. This is not the only Sequoia to have this happen. Other years have been recalled so why not the 2005 - or any other year since it seems to be an issue. I emailed and talked to Toyota. They have not heard of this problem and can not help with it's solution. Last Toyota I'll have.
The yaw rate sensor is defective. This causes the vsc trac to engage and slows the vehicle right away, also causes power failure in the aspect of when it engages engine slows and can ever shut off.
Brake lights have been coming on and off for about three months. On 05/6/12 the engine began making a whining noise which sounded like the fan. Turned on and off the car three times and the whining sound went away. Next day same problem then the check engine, vsc track &trac off lights came on. Took it to Toyota dealer who is quoting a price of $3k to fix. I am noticing quite a number of these same complaints is this a recall issue for Toyota?.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph and approaching a traffic stop. As the contact engaged the brakes, the transmission began to jerk with hesitation. In addition, the vsc off, vsc trac, check engine and brake warning indicators were illuminated. The warning indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where they advised that both the vsc computer and transmission were defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
Brake warning light comes on periodicaly. Vsc light shows on and off. All three lights come on and off. Traction control is activated without warning. I am reluctant to take in to the shop, since many of the compaints have spent much $$ and no results. This is very similar to the issue the 2003 models were having, which Toyota recalled the problem. This needs to be addressed on all models and all years that are affected. This vehicle is used by my wife and three kids. It is stressful knowing that this vehicle could potentially harm my family.
Trac off, vsc trac and brake light on. All three lights come and go at will. I had simlar problem during warranty. For last 2 years it has come and gone. But this time it is more on than off for last 10 days.
I was on my way home from work when the engine light came on for a few seconds then disappeared. Two days later the engine light came on again and the vehicle started to ride rough like it need a tune-up. The engine light disappeared and the vehicle drove fine until I reached home. The engine light, vsc off and vsc trac all came on and the vehicle was riding really rough. I took it to firestone so they could look at but they couldn't figure out the problem. So I took it to Toyota so they could fix the problem. They thought it was carbon build up around the cylinders, so they cleaned all eight cylinders but that didn't work. I still had to pay for it. The finale solution was for them to tear down the engine. They claimed that piston #3 wasn't working at its full capacity after running a compression test but they're not 100% sure. The cost for them to take the head off would be $862 and another $862 to put it back together plus what ever real problem is. The service guy at Toyota said that he has seen three similar problems like this and it cost the customer around $3000. My dvd player wasn't working so the tech tested it and stated that power was going to it and that it should work. Three weeks later the dvd player worked but now my back window didn't. When I push the button for the back window the back wiper comes on.
Vsc trac lights on 2005 Toyota Sequoia are on. Will be bringing car to dealership in the morning.
Brake light, vsc light, low tire pressure light, abs light, and one other light come on when it's cold. They go off when it's above 40 or so degrees. Replaced brakes and fixed parking brake (drove with it on because I got so used to ignoring all of the lights). Lights were off for about a week. 21 degrees out today and all the lights are back on. Will call Toyota and discuss why I just spent $900 and the lights are still coming on.
My rear hatch quit 48 months after purchase. First the rear defrost/wiper/window quit soon followed by the hatch not opening at all. The issue lies with the inadequate 360 degree sealing of the rear hatch itself. Several issues have resulted from the inadequate seal: water coming in under the hatch and mold forming inside the vehicle. Dust comes in the vehicle while driving on dirt roads. Night driving is especially difficult due to the rear wiper and defrost not working. Every 03-05 owner I speak with has an issue with the rear hatch and the internet forums are endless.
I was leasing an 2005 Sequoia through southeast Toyota. I purchased the vehicle 6 months ago and at the time it was certified. Since I have had the vehicle I experienced the brake light going on and off. It never stayed on long enough to take it in to be checked out and would often go away after the car was turned off and then on again. Recently, the check engine, vsc trac and trac off lights came on and remained lit after the car was started - the brake light would also continue to come on after driving and would not always come back on after the car was turned off and started back up again. I took my Sequoia into the closest dealer and was told that I needed a skid control ecu #89541-0c070 ($2206), master cylinder pressure sensor #89637-0c020 ($477. 86) and a knock sensor bank 2 #89615-06010 #17171-50030 ($741). My research has showed that I am not the only vehicle owner with this problem. The service department has confirmed with me that there is nothing wrong with my vehicle; however, because the sensors are malfunctioning, my abs and trac is not working. I have called Toyota corporate. They were only willing to help me out with approx 20% of the cost. I made my first call yesterday. I called again to day and was told that I should hear back from a manager by 6pm pst tomorrow. An investigation needs to be started on this problem.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that the vehicle had a sudden loss of power. Also, the vehicle stalled while making left and right turns and various warning indicators illuminated. Initially, the dealer (principle Toyota, 7370 winchester rd, memphis, TN 38125, (877) 217-4003) was unable to replicate the failure, so it continued to progress and various warning indicators remained illuminated, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. While driving approximately 25 mph he noticed that the defrost, windshield wiper and the rear window were not working. The power rear window would not open and close. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who repaired the vehicle. Four to five months later, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for the identical failure and it was repaired again. The failure recurred 6 to 7 months later and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired since it was no longer under warranty. The estimated repair cost was $800. The contact was advised that the dealer was pressing a button and shutting the rear hatch with force as a repair option. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that there was an electrical short that was causing the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximately failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.
