1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2023

Took the SUV for an oil change and was brought to my attention that the frame of SUV, chassis, is rusted and can break any moment. I took it to Toyota 2 years ago for the recall, and they said it was fine.

2 Equipment problem

Frame rust.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2020

These vehicles have a well known frame rust issue. In March of 2018, Toyota deemed this frame safe after an inspection and applied an undercoating to cover up the rust. A year later the undercoating began to flake off, revealing the severe rust underneath. Last week, not even three years later, we were making a right turn and felt a pop underneath. The passenger side sway bar mount broke loose from the frame, and the Toyota dealership told us the frame is so rotted there's nothing left to weld it back to. Other than the frame rot, the vehicle runs, looks, and drives like new. This frame, as well as many others, should have been replaced instead of undercoated. The class action lawsuit and service campaign are over, but I think this should be revisited, as there are still many instances of this happening.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2019

2005 Sequoia class action, court ordered frame inspection & either repair or frame replacement. Never received notice of class action. Received letter stating vehicle needed to be inspected. Took to victory Toyota, canton, mi on Jan 5, 2018. Was told passed inspection & frame needed seal coating, did not have product. Vehicle was taken in multiple times, never completed the process. On may 6, 2019 the vehicle was taken to this dealership, a rental vehicle was provided and they did nothing and on may 21, 2019, noted the vehicle didn’t pass inspection & the campaign had expired! per service history report from another dealership, on may 21, (the 15th day they had they had vehicle in their possession), they noted the frame did not pass inspection, also noted the repair timeline expired and they did nothing; however, they were paid to do the job they never did. The frame should of been replaced. I have photos from 2016 showing holes in the frame. I took vehicle to two other dealerships, one inspected in fall 2019 & sent 3 photos to Toyota showing the frame rusted holes but stated once Toyota makes a decision, the never change their mind. Second local dealership printed detailed Toyota repair history report showing victory stated the vehicle did not pass inspection and that the timeline expired on the 16th day they had the vehicle!! the vehicle interior & exterior is in excellent condition but Toyota knowing refused to replace many of the frames, even though they knew the manufacturer had not made the frames correctly. Toyota has tons of money, clearly they don’t care about their product or customers safety.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2018

I have fixed the rear door latch about a half dozen times in the past 2 years of ownership of this vehicle. Each time the fix lasts about 2 to 3 weeks. Then the rear door cannot be opened. This is a severe safety hazard should the back door be necessary to exit the vehicle in an emergency. The problem is well known by Toyota, yet they refuse to provide a permanent solution.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

Code 1223 1247 1360 brake light trac off vsc trac all come on this seams to be problem with thousands of 2003 - 2005 Sequoia brake sometimes make noise so you not sure brakes are good when car in motion Sequoia has 78000 miles.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2016

Informed of rust in underbody. Was told that in a few years the rust will make car inoperable. Want to know if recall exist.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

Abs failed and car shut when abs is lock.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2015

My 2005 Sequoia has the vsc off and vsc trac lights on and it causes a hesitation in acceleration - which is a significant crash hazard. I notified Toyota about this and asked if they would fix it because they recalled other years of Sequoias for the same problem. Toyota will not fix it and said that the 2005 has different parts than the years that they recalled. That is silly because the problem is there even if the parts are different. The hatchback latch has also broke and the hatchback will not open. I looked online and saw that this is another well known problem with 2005 Sequoias that Toyota refuses to fix despite the dangers if there were a crash and somebody needed to exit from the hatch area.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2015

My mechanic have already told me the sway bar will soon need replacing. I'm trying to see if there is a recall on this because if not it should be. Thank you in advance. When I turn my wheel I hear the sway bar or something popping!.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2015

I bought a Toyota Sequoia 2005 back in 2005 at rice Toyota dealer in greensboro . Today , when I was driving on the street and turned on the left light signal with less than 15 mph while using the brake, I heard a very loud grinding noise and that instantly I saw all 3 signs ( trac off, vsc trac, brake ) on at the same time. I am almost out of breath and scared to death. The signs (trac off, vsc trac, brake ) once in a while appeared in the past and disappeared by themselve and I did not have any serious problems in the past , but today the car just acted like a dead car at that momentarily. I was so scared and scared.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

My wife turned the vehicle on and all warning lights came on and stayed on. This is the 3rd time this has happened.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2015

Vehicle had new front shocks put on as front shocks were rusted and seized, after inspection of vehicle, technician told us frame of the car was severely rusted and had holes in it. He felt it was very unsafe as spare tire could fall off and SUV may not take impact from a crash correctly. We phoned Toyota directly and we asked for a technician to come over to our dealer to view the SUV. We were told they could not do that, and we had to go to dealer and have dealer look at it. Dealer looked at it and took pictures and advised us that is in poor condition. They are sending that information over to Toyota. Toyota should take this much more seriously as they have had recalls on other vehicles with this same issue. I do not feel safe at all in my car and I bought this new and paid a lot of money for this vehicle. There should be a recall on this issue as this is definitely a safety issue.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2014

Vsc trac, abs and brake alerts light up on dash board, noise when vehicle is initially turned on, the noise disappears after a few minutes but the alerts stay on. The vehicle also loses power (but the engine keeps running, just no power to accelerate) if I make a quick turn, loss of power lasts for a few seconds then turns back on.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2014

The vsc trac, vsc off and abs light would come on and then reset when I turn off & restart the vehicle. I called the Toyota dealer I take my car to for maintenance and they said to bring it in when the lights turn on again. I did some research and waited for the lights to come back on. The lights came on today & I took it into the dealer. They said the master cylinder and skid ecu was bad & needed to be replaced. They quoted me $1900 plus labor. This is an extremely common problem with the Sequoia's and I am very surprised & disappointed that there hasn't been a recall done for this problem.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

We have a 2005 Toyota Sequoia with excessive frame rust. This was assessed by Toyota dealership and documented 6/19/14. There was a recall by Toyota for frame rust for years 2001-2004 on both Toyota Sequoias and Toyota tacomas were also involved. Toyota recently extended recalls for rust on frames for tacomas years 2005-2012 but not Sequoia models. When I placed an inquiry and complain with Toyota they stated there are no recalls for 2005 and above Toyota Sequoias frame rust, and that our 2005 Sequoia is out of warranty and replacement of frame would be at the expense of us. We do not understand why Sequoias and tacomas were recalled initially with the same rust issue, and tacomas have an extension on the recall for rust but not Sequoias. We purchased Toyota brand with the reputation of the company and vehicles running with over 200k miles. However, with a frame deteriorating we doubt our truck will last and have serious concerns about safety with a frame decomposing as it is. Toyota is aware of issues with these frames in Sequoia and tacomas as evidenced by recalls. But if recall is extended on tacoma's why not on Sequoias? we would appreciate help and Toyota to rectify this issue. Thank you.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

My vsc, trac off, check engine light and the exclamation sing all came on for the first time since I bought my Sequoia, and it started jerking and when I set my foot on the break it starts to pull, as I got on the interstate my Sequoia excelerated itself the rpm when up to # 5 it really scared me I haf to take it this morning to Toyota to have it checked, I do travel with my children alot and that is a safety concern for me.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

While applying the brakes there is a grinding noise coming from the front of the vehicle with a shudder and the vsc, trac off and brake lights come on and stay on. This has happened several times recently. Also the brake light will come on at random times. Everything resets when the ignition is turned off. When the vehicle shudders it does not seem to be slowing down. I have checked the Toyota web site and they do not show any recalls. Also I have checked on-line and there are several people that seem to be having the same problem. This is a very unsafe problem and I feel that Toyota needs to fix this with a recall. They are aware of the problem and it is very expensive fix.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

I started my car and drove off, and I noticed the vsc trac lights stayed on. The vehicle appears to drive fine, but the vsc trac lights stayed on. Upon doing my own research online I discovered that many Sequoia owners have experienced the same issue, but Toyota has refused to do a recall. This issue with vsc trac is a huge safety concern. Through my research I discovered that the vehicle could lose power at any time, and many owners state they hear a grinding noise as the vehicle pulls to the right or left.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

I am the owner of a 2005 Sequoia that I purchased new from a va dealer on 31 Dec 2005; it has a rather serious drive-train related problem. After coming to a 'hard' stop, several seconds later I experience a lurch or clunk that literally feels like another vehicle just bumped me from behind. I began to apply threshold braking and the problem was minimal. Today, I had to abruptly apply the brakes, emergency vehicle crossing in front of me, however, when I attempted to accelerate this time the lurch was followed a loud thud that was measured with the speed of the vehicle. Please urge Toyota to have this issue made into a recall along with the rust issues that this truck continues to have. The rust recall was limited and stopped with the 2004 models even though it is still an on going issue with this model.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

I purchased the vehicle new in 2005. Overtime the vehicle frame is showing progressively worsening rust. I fear this will eventually render the vehicle undriveable.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2005

Turning on the a/c after starting the engine from a cold start, the a/c unit makes a grinding sound while engaging. This only occurs while engine has not run for approximately 24 hrs. Dealer could not duplicate the problem after several attempts.
