1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

The vehicle fuel tank was punctured and then patched with jb weld epoxy. This vehicle was sold to me by a private owner that did not disclose this information to me. The safety of my family as well as thousands of others were at risk as the vehicle was parked in several parking garages of large buildings. The fuel tank and fuel pump has been replaced by lewis Toyota of topeka, KS. Several occurrences of a strong fuel smell had taken place for the two week time frame from the previous owner selling it to me. A fuel smell was present at inspection before purchase, however the owner stated that he had spilled fuel.

2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/29/2025

Fuel filler door hinge and pin does not work properly. The hinge, door, and pin are bent. This prohibits 1) opening the door, 2) filling the gas tank, and 3) the door from closing properly. The spacing around the door is not equal and is askew, tilted to the bottom right and dips inward. Toyota seems to have used this design on other models, eg camry, sienna, etc. I located a NHTSA customer support bulletin for those models with a similar fuel filler door hinge and pin design; however, I was not able to not locate one for a 2019 Toyota Sequoia. Your website does not allow video uploads, so 3 photos are attached: 1) widest point the door will open with assistance, 2) widest door will open without assistance, and 3) the door closed. Please look into this matter. Please 1) provide replacement for current owners, and 2) send feedback to Toyota to engineer a better option for future vehicles. Many thanks,.

3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/20/2025

Toyota had a recall on fuel pumps in 2020 mine was not part of the recall even though mine went bad and had to be replaced in February 2020. Now with another fuel pump recall issued in January 2025 I am also told mine is not part if the recall however I am having issues related to the fuel pump once again causing my engine to stall. Can someone please look into this as I feel my car should be part of that recall for another failing fuel pump. I do have receipt of repair in 2020 by first class halt I can provide if needed. My engine is stalling, not cycling fuel properly and has left me stranded. Then other times fires up normally.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/17/2024

The fuel door does not stay open. It flaps around. This issue becomes problematic while attempting to refuel and insert the fuel nozzle while fighting with the fuel door. On numerous occasions, I was the wind forcing the fuel door closed while trying to insert the fuel nozzle and I depressed the trigger on accident, resulting in fuel spillage.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/24/2024

Toyota advertises the vehicle mpg is between 19-22. I am only getting 12 mpg. My low gas fuel light comes on at 10 miles to empty. Engine makes a horrible noise after the vehicle has been driven for 10 to 20 minutes. It sounds like a rattling/old clunker vehicle sound. It sounds like the transmission or engine is going to blow up. Vehicle wobbles when driven over 75 miles per hour. It feels like it is swaying in the rear. I have reported these issues to Toyota on 5 occasions. The first 2 attempts, Toyota told me, could not duplicate/no recommendations at this time. A TSB was issued to fix the rattling sound, took the vehicle in a 3rd time and was told it fixed the rattling. It did not, took the vehicle in a fourth time and was told no recommendations at this time. Took it to another Toyota dealership, and they told me no recommendations at this time. I have had 3 certified mechanics not from Toyota listen to the sound and they have advised me that it is not normal. The mechanics said in order to pinpoint where the sound is coming from, the engine needs to be removed and inspected. But they believe it is an issue with the engine/transmission.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/19/2024

The gas tank on my vehicle started leaking. It has a crack in the tank. I have not been in an accident nor have I hit anything to cause damage to my vehicle. The vehicle had been parked for approximately 6 hours in my work parking lot when I was notified that the tank was leaking.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/19/2024

Twice now, when I attempt to refill the fuel tank, with the truck off, the tank "burps" out about 8 to 10 ounces of gas which spills on me, the left side fender and left side tire. When I put my ear to the filler neck, I can hear the fuel pump running (with the truck off). I sent the dealer a video off the noise I hear at the filler neck. Also the discoloration on my new michelin ten ply tires. Went to dealer, master mechanic had no idea. He also didn't know where the battery was in the truck to perform the open recall. Service manager said he would start a tas report with Toyota and let me know. I month went by and I heard from no one. I sent the service mgr two texts, no reply to either, I called the service writer and he said he would get back to me. . . . I'm still waiting. I called Toyota help line today. They said they would call the dealer. I while later, the service mgr called me and had no excuse for ignoring me. He wants to keep the truck of six months to duplicate the video I sent him. He doesn't have a sequioa loaner and he said even if he did, I could not tow with it since its against their policy. I tow ever day with the truck. Being a retired professional engineer, I think there is a software issue telling the fuel pump to run to purge the charcoal canister every few months. I'm must be hitting that frequency when I refill. It would be nice to talk to a Toyota engineer, or maybe they want to wait for it to burst into flames.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/19/2022

Rack and pinion rusted out and had to be replaced. It cracked in the middle of the highway and left me inching to safety. Never fully recovered 186k, frame is fully rusted and will not pass inspection due to faulty oxygen sensors and excessive rust and corrosion. Will need to replace exhaust to input a new sensor at 4k vechicle is fully operable and functional but cannot pass inspection without the safety of rust treatment or replacement it’s a great vechicle but unfortunate that the 2002 series is left out of the recall . There are a lot of early generations that have these issues and although the trucks are reliable and have a long life , are undriveable because they can’t pass inspection. Please consider extended the rust recall to 2001-2003 Sequoias. This was my grandfathers truck and really would like to keep his memory in the family and drive my grandfathers truck as it still runs perfectly but has on going issues with rust and frame issues . There was an extended warranty for 2002 Sequoias that expired in 2014. This is a point where most sequioas weren’t experiencing this issue. Dealership or recall will not honor and denied any claim for rust it is unfortunate because I am now disabled and love my Sequoia so much and was hoping to drive to appointments and gain my health back. It has become more than I am able to afford to fix an entire frame of the vehicle. It’s evident that early generations all that his issue but has not been honored for repair. I’ve repaired things over the years with hopes to pass inspection and now have insight as to what the real issue is. The excessive rust and damage to the frame.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/01/2021

Malfunction indicator lights - check engine, vsc off and trac off. The vehicle goes into limp mode. The issue is both a mechanical and engineering defect causing the override of the entire aip system. Parts affected are air injection pumps, air switching valves, air pump inlets/covers, gaskets/connectors/clamps and speed sensors.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

My gas gauge sensor consistently drops below the “e” marker when the truck has gas in it and especially when it is filled up. After driving about 50 miles or so, the gauge will move up some ; however, I have been relying on my dte monitor to let me know about gas. I have taken it to the dealer twice and both said “the gas tank needs to be dropped in order for repair” I was about to pay for the service but was told I had to make an appointment. However the service advise ask had I had it replaced before because there was a recall on that particular part several years ago. Please note I have never received any notice about a recall regarding the issue. Please advise.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/12/2020

Can not acsess the failed charcoal canister due to rear door failing and am unable to open . So I can not drop the spare tire and acsess the canister.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/23/2020

I took my 2018 Toyota Sequoia (VIN: 5tdby5g19js164407) on September 23, 2020 for the six-month Toyotacare service to american Toyota located at 5995 alameda blvd ne, albuquerque, nm 87113 with the assumption that the six-month Toyotacare service will include fixing any pending safety recall. However, after the service, when I checked the paperwork, I found out that the pending safety recall (manufacturer recall: 20ta02, NHTSA recall: 20v012) was not fixed and it was claimed that there were no safety recalls associated with the vehicle (see the attached paperwork). I called the service department at the american Toyota and the service representative didn't give me a reasonable reason so I demanded to talk a manager. The manager didn't know why the safety recall was not fixed so he promised to do some investigations and get back to me. Later, a senior manager from the american Toyota called me and gave me the following reasons for not fixing the safety recall: - I specifically didn't ask for safety recall to be fixed - american Toyota didn't have a certified technician available at that time to fix the safety recall - american Toyota made false statement on the service paperwork that there was no safety recall associated with the vehicle when I talked to the senior service manager at american Toyota, he promised to get the database and paperwork updated soon but as of today (three weeks later) I have not received a corrected paperwork from the american Toyota. I see this a systematic issue at american Toyota to falsely mark the service paperwork as no pending safety issue if the customer didn't ask for fixing a safety issue and/or if a certified technician is not available. 13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/14/2020

Vsc, traction control and check engine lights randomly come on and vehicle suddenly loses acceleration and runs rough. I tried putting on new gas cap to no avail. I was almost rear ended going up a hill when the lights suddenly came on and I lost power. It has happened at highway speeds as well leaving me unable to safely accelerate . Mechanic reports this is an ongoing problem with Toyotas and costly to fix. Stated that Toyota fixed the problem in 2008 models but not in 2007.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

When driving about 45 or 60 mph the steering wheel shakes real bad an vibrates feels like I got a flat tire or feels like I'm gonna have a tire come off when I bought it also consumes a lot of gas ust to get real good gas mileage but now not so good juust to fill up twice a week but now sometimes 3 to 5 timeswhich is weird didn't know I had a recall warranty I have had to replace a lot of things especially in the emissions part for car bought new fuel line solenoids , purge solenoid, now it says I need a new valve vent solenoid. There is a vacuum leak other than that runs good doesn't over heat or break unless I needed to but uses a lot of GA shakes real bad I don't wanna drivemorethan 70 mph all the tires are at 41 psi.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/23/2017

Accelerator stuck when parking (<5 mph) causing vehicle to strike a curb and 1 ft retainer wall resulting in going airborne up a 3' bank, over a 6' sidewalk and 8' grass area to strike an office building. Location was kia drive lagrange, GA. My wife was driving and injured her right forearm. No broken bone, just bumped and remains sore. Vehicle was mfg in August 07. We took delivery in sept after placing an order. I saw recall on 08 thru 12 but not 07. Wondering if late 07 had a 08 accelerator installed? photo files were resized to smalller images for sending.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/11/2015

I have an ammonia smell, worse than a rotten egg, under hard acceleration, that comes through the vehicle vents and into the cabin, even with all windows up and vents on recirculation or outside air. Many Sequoia owners have reported this to Toyota, and they have no known fix. The odor that comes into the cabin burns your eyes for a few seconds, as well as makes my passengers and I nauseous, and distracts me when I'm driving. I believe this is a safety hazard, because we are inhaling whatever is in the cabin, and I can imagine that it is not safe, like any exhaust.

17 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/21/2015

While approaching a red light I applied brake my truck but instead my Sequoia thrust forward causing me to hit the car stopped at the light in front of me, causing damage to both vehicles.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

`while driving at about 55 mph, the abs, track control sensor lights came on and suddenly the acceleration stops I press the pedal to accelerate and there was no response I could not accelerate so I turn my emergency lights on, and accelerate again and this time it worked. But it's been doing that on everyday basis the mechanic said is the vehicles computer, is there a recall for this problem? can someone help?.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

Vehicle makes a sputtering noise at acceleration and coasting speed. Even at stop. Sounds like a misfire and thud at some points. Causes a loss in power and jerk.

20 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

At stop and starting to accelerate vehicle hesitates while trying to go into intersection. Stalls for a few seconds vsc light comes on and once system gains control it lets me actually accelerate and proceed. Dangerous due to oncoming traffic and the hesitation time of not knowing how long until I regain control.

21 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

While waiting in traffic in a parking lot to enter the highway, with car in "drive", foot on brake and at a complete stop, the engine suddenly accelerated to a high idle (approx 1200-1500 rpm). The car lunged forwarded slightly, but I was able to apply more pressure to the brake and stop without colliding with the vehicle ahead of me. When I entered the highway and attempted to accelerate, the accelerator was unresponsive. I was able to coast back to the shoulder without causing any traffic accident. I noticed that the check engine light was on and engine was still at a high idle. I put the car in "park" and turned the engine off. After a few seconds I restarted the engine; the check engine light was still on but the engine idled normal and the accelerator resumed normal function. This incident happened on a Saturday. I took the car to the dealership early the following week, but the check engine light had already gone off. The dealership kept the car all week, but when I returned to the dealership to get the car at the end of the week, they indicated that they were unable to duplicate the malfunction and no fault codes were stored in the car's computer. However, the car malfunctioned in the exact same manner just a few hours after I left the dealership, fortunately in relatively safe conditions. I was again able to "reset" the accelerator function by turning the engine off and restarting. And I was able to get the car back to the dealership with the check engine light still on. This time they indicated that several fault codes had been stored in the computer--some that they were not familiar with. They kept the car in the shop for another week and replaced the throttle body. I am concerned that the malfunction might be electronic/software related. If the accelerator becomes unresponsive in traffic, this will obviously create a hazardous situation.

22 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

Air pump that cuts on for one minute when car is first started, pushes air into starting system to insure all gas is burned completely. Took in for service and told by dealer a little plastic fan blade breaks into pcs. And were stuck in valves making car go into "limp mode". When this happened car would not accelerate up a hill or go over 45 mph. Dealer quoted $3500. 00 and said it happens all the time to these little plastic fan blades. I have read there are a lot of people who have had same problems especially in the tacoma truck line. I think dealer should be required to fix these no matter how many miles on car or up to 10 years. They should not be made of plastic being so close to all the heat in area of air pump. Me and my family could have been in an accident being on interstate where the need to go over 45 mph is absolutely necessary or get rear ended. This problem is well documented by looking at the tacoma web site, Toyota is dragging their feet, covering some people and I read covering cars in canada but not in USA. A recall should be issued to cover cost. Most of the cost is labor for this 5 buck plastic fan blade. His is unacceptable to have to pay 3500. 00 bucks for a bad design.

23 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/25/2013

Driving at 75mph and inexplicably lost vehicle speed. Engine was running but would not respond to foot feed, I. E. Press down on accelerator and little to no increase in rpms from idle. Dealer replaced throttle position sensor.

24 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/17/2012

I was driving at 55 mph, suddenly the car in front me stop at the fwy. I made panic stop but my abs wont activate. I just bump a car.

25 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/02/2012

Clear on mileage* forward additional message to appropriate dept. * I rented a car from enterprise rental car company in commerce, GA. (706) 336-8450) and everything seemed to be fine with the vehicle until I tried to switch it out in charlotte, north carolina's airport location enterprise rental car company (I also noticed a scratch on the windshield that I had not seen nor experienced anything hitting once I received the car back) . They had switched me into a Jeep which was emmiting some type of chemical that makes you choke and bleed if you're pregnant (I'm pregnant). So I switched back to the van that I had before but this vehicle started doing the same. My vehicle has now since been wrecked (Nov. 2, 2012) and sits at lance towing company in lawrenceville, GA. However, this is not an isolated incident as I have noticed that when transfer trucks pass by my they blow their pipes which give off the same effect but stronger if you're trying to open the windows to get fresh air. I have now had to resort to wearing a mask to protect my health and the health of my unborn child. I do believe that this is not an accident and that it is extremely intentional as I have had to report the governor of georgia, nathan deal, of suspected corruption. It is also my belief that this action is also extenuated by my ex, kirk christian of kingston jamaica, and that he may be providing such chemicals to increase the chances of my having a miscarriage with my soon to be ex husband, william edward royston. Ex husband william royston may also be involved in the scheme as he has law enforcement and government connections. I would also like to report that I rented the car from enterprise car rental company because I was in an accident on Nov. 2, 2012 which again I believe was intentional due to the same reasons listed above.

26 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

Check engine light, vsc trac and break light constantly.

27 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/25/2012

I purchased a brand new 2012 Toyota Sequoia. Since I bought the vehicle, the vehicle has had idle/accelerator problems, erratic problems with excessive transmission downshifting, racing, surging, and fluctuation of engine rpm's, making the vehicle difficult to stop safely. When I first purchased the vehicle, the service department explained to me that it was a new vehicle and it needed time,??one thousand miles,?? for the engine to break in. Their initial solution to my vehicle'??s problem did not rectify itself. I have had to return it to the dealership 2 times for repair. They stated that they have confirmed my concerns with the vehicle but it could not be repaired. That it is a design characteristic of the vehicle, that's the way they act, and that it had something to do with fuel-cutting or transmission shifting. He further stated that he forwards his report to Toyota engineers and if there are enough complaints that they will re-write and update the software for the vehicle. Obliviously a safety issue. . . Please advise.

28 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia sr 5. The contact stated that the driver was traveling 55 mph when the vsc and check engine warning lights illuminated and the vehicle decreased speed. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop. The repair shop stated that the fuel air reduction pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 72,000 and the current mileage was 72,012.

29 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

Vsc trac---vsc--check engine light--and then problems with acceleration!!.

30 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/07/2010

Repeated incidences of gas pedal being stuck and unable to be depressed to give the vehicle fuel and accelerate. Essentially vehicle randomly locks up, typically at low speeds as on a parking lot or leaving a driveway or paring garage. The gas pedal feels as if there is something blocking it from being utilized while there is nothing physically obstructing the pedal. After tapping and then frantically trying to push the accelerator and break it free it causes the vehicle to lunge forward necessitating quick reaction and breaking. It is scattered but reoccurs periodically with no warning. Vehicle is currently under recall for the traction, skid, stability issues and airbags. Scheduled for recall services mentioned but dealer says nothing is wrong with pedal. Once told it was cleaned and adjusted but is mostly ignored and I'm treated like I'm nuts. Not being taken seriously but I'm afraid that someone may be hurt. It is a frightening event as you feel not in control of the vehicle and vulnerable. Have had it happen when pulling into traffic or turning onto busy street. Even giving ample time for normal traffic, the inability to provide gas to the vehicle left us at the vehicles mercy and in a vulnerable spot to be briar sides by oncoming traffic. It was not the floor mat.

31 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/21/2010

Vehicle when on a stop and making a turn doesn't acelerate for a few secons it goes blank then after gets speed. In many ocassion I had close calls with upcomming traffic behind me after making the turn because of the acelleration failure. I called the dealer where the car was obtained and they said that there is no recal for that vehicle even when I told them that the Sequoia 2003 was recalled because of the same issue. The told me that they can check what is wrong with it but I will need to pay the inspection plus the repairs. Las conversation with them was 6/27/2014.

32 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

When turning and accelerating (for example, turning out of a parking lot and entering traffic) the traction/skid control will engage - the skid control light turns on - and cut throttle for approximately 3 seconds. During this time the vehicle slows down and is not responsive to pressing on the gas pedal. This has happened approximately 10-15 times on this vehicle. I was not aware this was an inherent Sequoia problem until I read other complaints online - which is why I did not report this earlier.

33 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/06/2008
