Failure Date: 08/20/2010

2003 Sequoia. Vsc/trac lights come on just driving down the road. Plus parking brake light. Have to shut car off to reset. The dealer said my computer is not part of the recall so I must pay out of pocket. Looked on-line and found dozens of sites and thousands of people with the same problem.

5 Parking Brake problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/07/2010

Our vsc/trac light and engine light simultaneously come on for an unknown reason. Our mechanic can not find a solution. Our emergency brake light comes on and off for no necessary reason as well. This has happened three or four times and no one can fix it. I am afraid to take it to Toyota because of the bad experiences posted online where consumers have received many verying answers, expensive repairs, and in some case, still no solution. We are in the market to buy a new car and it makes resale very difficult with these lights on and no answer as to why they are on. . . And no way to turn them off. . . So we wait. Many people have posted on the internet about this same problem in other 2005 Sequoias. Our computer keeps throwing varying and different errors. . . And my mechanic thinks the errors are not accurate. Could it be a computer or electrical malfunction? please help.

8 Parking Brake problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/27/2010

The vsc track and engine lights came on at the same time at exactly 108,000 miles. This has been a very reliable vehicle except when it seems the computer parts are programmed to fail. I use to commute in heavy slow traffic in southern California when my brake light would come on when using the brakes in traffic. The dealer could not find a problem. . The brake light will go off after the key is turned off and back on again however the vsc/track light still on appear t be a computer defect. I see many problems with this could lead to vehicle tipping big problem maybe this issue is related to Toyotas vehicles super accelerating just a thought!.

9 Parking Brake problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

For the past 6months the emergency brake light has come on and shut off randomly for extended periods of time. The dealership has no answer for why, but they said that there is nothing wrong. Now the vsc trac and vsc off lights will not turn off. The dealer says that there is no danger again but that it will cost 1600 to fix. If I do nothing then it will be fine too. None of it makes complete sense.

10 Parking Brake problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/16/2009

2004 Toyota Sequoia - 80,000 + miles I purchased the car new and have always maintained it well. Since new, the brake light would come on intermittently. Toyota could never find a problem. On 10/16/2009 the emergency brake exploded while I was driving. The car jerked but allowed me to continue. Once I parked the car it would not drive. I had the car towed and the repair shop said the left side emergency brake just fell apart. They had never seen anything like it before. Given the issues Toyota is having, I believe this incident should be investigated. I have had my brakes replaced 3 times.

11 Parking Brake problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/04/2008

Emergency brake indicator on dash would periodically come on while driving. The only way to get light to go off would be to restart car. Problem occurred off & on for 18 months & 3 visits to local Toyota dealership. On 3rd trip, dealership isolated problem to stroke sensor & abs ecu. They replaced part #89541-0c062 ($1252. 50 part) and part #44610-0c041 ($712. 23 part). Our '04 Sequoia has less than 32,000 miles on it. After researching online, it appears that this is a popular problem.

12 Parking Brake problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/20/2008

03 Toyota Sequoia. Vsc, abs, parking brake light came on. At 52,000 miles while driving. Yaw sensor defective.

13 Parking Brake problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/06/2008

On July 6th at approximately 2:00 in the afternoon my son and I went to pull our boat out of the water with our 2004 Toyota Sequoia. (we backed the trailer into the water and loaded our boat onto the trailer as we always do. We then secured the boat to the trailer and proceeded to pull the truck and loaded trailer up the hill about 30 feet and parked on the boat launch ramp. I exited the vehicle and left the Sequoia in four wheel drive high, in park, with the parking brake on. About 5 minutes later, we heard a repeated clicking sound and the boat and trailer came rolling back down the launch ramp into the water narrowly missing my son and I. The only thing that stopped the truck and trailer was the fact that the boat trailer jackknifed against the left rear bumper of the truck. The regional inspector, jim teely finally inspected the Sequoia on July 15th. According to jim teely, whom I have spoken with on the telephone, the inspection found that there was nothing mechanically wrong with the vehicle. The inspection that was done was cursory at best. Until the transmission has been physically examined by Toyota I am not comfortable towing my boat and especially not parking the Sequoia (towing or not) on an incline. We live in the mountains, and not being able to park on a hill will be a major inconvenience for us. Toyota has still not determined what caused this accident.

14 Parking Brake problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/29/2007

The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. While the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed rust under it towards the rear. A few years later, while having the vehicle serviced, the contact was informed that the undercarriage was severely rusted. She was also told that the parking brake lever fractured and there was an unknown pipe leaking from under the vehicle. The leaking pipe was repaired but the severe rusting and fractured hand brake were not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000 and the current mileage was approximately 75,000.

15 Parking Brake problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/15/2006

Vsc, track, and brake lamp stay on. Toyota has not repaired problem. Was first brought to them in warranty when they said they had to replace the computer but didn't have the part. They have since replaced the computer but the problem persist. Now they say it is a master cylinder sensor (2 of them) but still have not repaired. When first brought to them, I was told this was a common problem. Have since noticed that the internet is filled with this same problem. This affects traction and is an obvious safety problem and should be recalled. This problem has continued from 2005 to present.

16 Parking Brake problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/19/2005

I put the vehicle in park, then got out and closed the door. The vehicle was fully stopped when I got out. It then started to move forward, the vehicle picked up speed and moved forward approximately 25 feet. I opened the door as it was moving and pushed on the emergency brake with my hand just as it crashed into the staircase in my garage. When I got back into the vehicle after the crash the car was in drive. Thus the car automatically shifted from park to drive. It is possible it shifted from neutral to drive but I don't think so. Either way this still poses great concern. This incident happened on September 19, 2005. My vehicle is a 2002 Toyota Sequoia.

17 Parking Brake problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/25/2003

Our 2003 Toyota Sequoia has the vsc, traction light, emergency brake light, and trac off light are all coming on. The dealer told us that we need a brake job and the problem that I have is that this will be the third set of brakes in 25,000 miles. I have been reading quite a bit on this same problem with other Sequoia owners on the edmunton's website forum and it is concerning to me for the saftey of my family and my self not too mention the brake jobs at every 7,000 miles. The dealer tells me that this is normal for brakes with heavier vehicles but that has not been my experience with SUV's in the past.

18 Parking Brake problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/01/2002

Parking brake needs constant adjustment to be effective. The parking brake is completely unusable after less than 2,000 miles after an adjustment. I have asked Toyota about this several times, but have never received an effective solution or answer to the problem. Since I very rarely use my parking brake, it is very easy to not know that it does not work.
