general problems of the 2005 Toyota Sienna - part 2

Toyota Sienna 2005 shows excessive corrosion of the lowermost universal joint installed on the steering intermediate shaft. Thump noise can be felt and heard from steering wheel. Safety concern steering.

Power steering has become very stiff/sticky. The stiffness is not steady throughout a turn, however. There were no events leading up to this - it just got steadily more and more stiff over time. About 2,000 miles ago, Toyota checked it once, injected something into the steering apparatus (I was told) but now it is back and, in fact, more stiff than ever.

Problem with power steering shaft. One of the universal joints on the "sealed" shaft rusted enough to prevent the proper steering. This was an extreme safety issue! it made it impossible to steer the vehicle. It was very expensive to fix.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake indicator lights illuminated, the vehicle began to shake, and move to the left without assistance. It's really dangerous you can easily crash when it binds up and you can no longer turn . . Toyota stand behind your product look at all the complaint with the same thing !!!.

Steering is no longer smooth, especially at low speed, feels like it kinks. . . . Been like this for about a year (date is estimate) matches description here: ea08- 024 2004-2006 Toyota Sienna steering intermediate shaft binding 28-oct-2008.

Steering becomes stiff and makes it hard to turn the steering wheel while driving. The steering knuckle outside of the fire wall is exposed to the elements and becomes stiff and requires frequent lubrication to maintain the function of the power steering. This is a concern we have dealt with for a number of years and we have recently become aware that it is a common problem with this van.
