I was driving on a dry road, going 70mph when my car began flashing the abs indicator and it began breaking and controlling my steering taking me into another lane. The car slowed my vehicle suddenly down to 60 mph and then went off like it never happened. I then had control. There was no reason for the car to do this. There was nothing in the road and luckily no one was to close to me or there would have been an accident. I almost over corrected due to the pulling of the steering and the breaking of the vehicle.
Shifter broke at 55 mph wouldn't stay in 5 gear, was easily moved to r, n, and flopped around! won't stay in 4 now when used either, or park unless held when turning car off. No warning, shifted down for a hill, speed limit change, and corner in neighborhood as usual, no lights on in car. Just happened but upon research, have found many others with this problem online, same veh and same kind of miles. Toyota knows but won't recall their broken plastic piece and no notification to consumer.
While reversing out of a parking spot, felt the van "jumped" then accelerated on it's own while in reverse swiped a parked truck, and did a half circle into the drive-through of a parking lot only to stopped when it hit another SUV. I felt I had no control of the van while this was happening.
Continuous issues with traction control system almost daily. Any time vehicle veers towrds the right anti-slip indicator light, alarm sounds and abs system activates. This happens almost daily, on dry roads, going downhill or on a curve, even while switching lanes now. This happens above 20 mph. Driving becomes stressful and worry-some when alarm begins to sound and dash light come on. Fear of losing control becomes great, fear for your passengers safety as well as other drivers safety becomes real. During the past 3 months there have been 5 separate incidents in which the vehicle has lost acceleration, pulls steering in one direction and sudden break lock occurs. 2 of which took place on the freeway on ramp at a speed of 35mph, 1 driving downhill, slightly towards the right, at a speed if 20mph and the last 2 while switching lanes, 35 mph. Vehicle began losing power and slowing instead of increasing speed. There are many complaints regarding this issue with many drivers in many areas. Why isn't this being investigated?.
Driving on the highway, let off the gas though kept accelerating, braked as hard as possible without any effect, shifted to neutral and continued to accelerate.
From driving normal speed, car cap out at 20 mph at highway. Almost got into wreck. Check engine light came on as is happened. I took it to auto zone . Manager checked and said it happened to his 2014 corolla, Toyota covered variable transmission celenoid under recall. He said to call Toyota or dealership. Dealership is saying, there is no recall for this kind of safety issue.
While on the road, infrequently as we start hitting continuous curves, the beeping starts with slip control symbol coming on. The brakes engage on their own. It doesn't seem to matter how fast or slow we take the curves. I have no control over the vehicle at that point and it starts braking itself for few seconds. Very dangerous on the curves and especially if someone is behind you.
Takata inflators - when driving in city 30mph or freeway 50-60mph in curvy path, the unti-skid lock turns off even if the road was dry. When it happened frequently and a motorcycle almost slammed from behind, I brought my van to the dealer and it shows no record of the unti-skid lock being on. I insisted to take precautions and they did a zero calibration, changed new tires and realignment but problem persist. I brought it back with the same complaint but they claimed the they never had any other customer with the same problem. I reached online yet there were many others. I hope you can help me on this. The dealer can't figure out this problem and just washed their hands. This happened multiple times already and afraid to drive my van.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stability control off warning light illuminated and engine would surge, the rpms would decrease and the vehicle would jerk to the left. The failure mileage was 145,000.
I was backing out of my garage and I have an l shaped driveway. I was going approx. 2mph and then I took my foot off the gas and was "covering" the brake and suddenly the car began to accelerate and I tried to brake, but the car slammed into a parked car and still did not stop. It continued to accelerate until I ended up in the street. I was trying to brake the entire time, but the car did not stop and continued to accelerate. My foot was not on the gas. We live on a residential street in the suburbs and luckily no one was hurt. The Sienna and the parked car both have extensive body damage.
Shift control didn't work and van rolled away. We also had an issue backing out of our garage and the car sped up and went out of control. The van was out of control and finally stopped out in the street. This van scared the day lights out of us. Complete defect.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated the vehicle abnormally accelerate as she had just taken the gear shift out of park. . The contact was unable to control the vehicle and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. There were no injuries reported. Updated 06/18/12 the consumer stated one month before the accident, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was inspected, but a problem was never found. The vehicle idled rough and it was noisy. Updated 06/22/12.
During the turning of the steering wheel to the left at 5-10 mph, in making a left turn, clicks and clunking noise could be heard and felt through the steering wheel. At one point, I had to apply bigger turning force to the left as if I was overcoming some unusual resistance in the steering column, making the turn uneasy and non-smooth.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. The vehicle was parked with the engine running. The contact engaged the brakes and the vehicle began to lunge forward and accelerated into a building. The building sustained moderate damages. The police were not called to the scene. There was no personal injury; and the vehicle's front bumper paint exhibited minor chipping. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to replicate the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
While very slowly pulling my 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan into a parking space, when the vehicle had nearly come to a complete stop, all of a sudden the vehicle accelerated to full throttle, hopping over the concrete bumper at end of parking space and crashing head on into a pole. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and is awaiting inspection by the insurance adjuster.
3 times in the past 5 days (once last Friday 2/19 and twice today 2/23) my 2005 Toyota Sienna has lunged forward while driving in traffic at 35 mph. I did not feel the pedal move under my foot. The surge was momentarily, but had there been anything close, I would have hit it. I drove immed to bell Toyota, phoenix, az and was turned away at the service dept (it is not on the recall list and there was nothing they could do) they suggested I call Toyota. I called Toyota, they suggested I go to a dealership. I emailed Toyota corp. They suggested I go to a dealership. Bell rd Toyota offered to do a diagnostic check for a $108. 00 fee. I called wright Toyota, scottsdale and they agreed to do a health insp. For free.
The electronic throttle control system on my van is malfunctioning and it puts the vehicle in "fail safe" mode. The local Toyota dealer as well as Toyota customer service do not want to investigate this recurring problem for the dtc p0121. The dealers do not analyze the freeze frame data or investigate the problem beyond reading the code from obd ii scanner. I had asked them for the electrical values for the throttle valve motor and the accelerator pedal but they have refused that information and want me to replace the throttle body by spending $1200. 00. The first time this problem started when the vehicle had 50,000 miles and I replaced the throttle body from same year and model vehicle with 20,000 miles. Now after 10,000 miles same problem has started again and the dealer as well as Toyota want me to replace the throttle body. I feel that the throttle body or the gas pedal in conjunction with other electrical components are causing the dtc code and merely replacing the throttle body second time will not fix the problem unless the newer throttle bodies are without the problem original throttle bodies had. In that case I should not have to pay for the replacement part. It is important that the problem is investigated and identified before any parts are replaced. I also offered Toyota the original throttle body from the vehicle for testing / checking for the problem but they refused my offer. This sudden loss of drivebility due to the activation of "fail safe" mode is dangerous and could result in accident and / or fatality. Any help in this matter will be appreciated.
I have a 2005 Toyota Sienna and it also has acceleration problems like the ones listed by Toyota. The car jumps speed all of a sudden. I think they should be looked at for safety reasons also considering many people take kids in these vans.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna . While approaching a complete stop the vehicle lurched forward. Consequently he crashed into some bushes, and then into a boulder. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealer, and a technician repaired the front bumper and all other body damages. The technician then added that his vehicle was not included in the recent Toyota recall for the floor mats. The failure mileage was 52000 . The current mileage was 55000. While pulling into the driveway and slowing to a stop, the car suddenly lurched and then accelerated forward, pushing the car through the garage door and about 10 feet into the garage before the engine stopped revving and came to a stop. The rollup garage door was destroyed. The impact scraped the front bumper of the car and made a small dent on the roof near the top of the windshield.
I purchased my Toyota Sienna in June 2008. This past summer(2009) and fall my wife complained that the vehicle accelerated own its own twice. Both occurrences were in parking lots when she was coming to a complete stop, suddenly the car lunged forward. She was lucky both times with no accidents. I initially brushed it off thinking she accidentally hit the gas pedal and didn't realize it. With the recent recalls I am surprised that the Sienna has not been recalled. Now, I am concerned about the vehicle's safety (which is why I bought the Toyota in the 1st place). I would please like my Sienna looked at for the same acceleration recall issue.
2009: one incident several months to a year ago if I am not mistaken that my car accelerated. It felt like my car had increased by a significant amount in mph. I thought I pressed the gas. I attempted to accelerated a bit but the car appeared to accelerate on its own. I believe I stepped on the brake at some point but it did not change the acceleration. I can't say if I put on brakes first to slow myself down or accelerated. However, I do know neither one affected the car from the acceleration. The acceleration stopped on its own. I have not had any other incident but I am acutely cautious when driving because that incident did seem unusual and worrisome at the time. I did not report b/c I placed it as isolated. I , however, want to ensure the safety of others and my family. I am sure of this experience as an occurrence that should be reported.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. While driving between 5-6 mph, another vehicle ran a stop sign and struck the left rear driver's side of the contact's vehicle. Her vehicle fish-tailed and turned to the left. The vehicle accelerated and struck another vehicle. The contact had no control over the vehicle. She attempted to place the vehicle into park, but was unsuccessful. The engine revved and the vehicle accelerated again. The vehicle struck a curb, a boulder, and then a palm tree before coming to a complete stop. The brakes failed to operate during the incident. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a GMC dealer and they test drove the vehicle, but were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle is still at the GMC dealer and will be appraised. The failure and current mileages were 40,000. Updated 5/7/09 updated 05/11/09.
July 2008 I was driving my 2005 Toyota Sienna I was on the ramp to enter the highway doing 35mph when my car suddenly jumped to 75mph without me touching the gas pedal. I stayed calm because my kids were in the car with and I didn't want to scare them. Thank god I jumped in the next lane where were not to many cars and just pressed the brake pedal hard thank god the car slowed down . I knew something was wrong with the car. I took to the mechanic he found nothing out of place . It later happened again maybe two weeks late this time I was on city streets and did the basically the same thing as before. I recently saw reports and I was not alone and was something very wrong with the Toyota system. Please do something before any more people get hurt.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerates on its own. The vehicle jerks when the contact depresses the accelerator pedal. The dealer reprogrammed the software for the throttle, however, the failure still occurs. The current mileage was 35,300 and failure mileage was 1,000. Updated 01/09/08. The consumer stated has had problems with the door of the vehicle. Updated 12/12/07.
On several instances when you let off the gas to go around a corner then when you accelerate nothing happens then the engine tries to compensate by over revving. On another occasion pulled into traffic, stepped on the gas nothing happened for several seconds, almost broadsided.
Consumer states: his car hesitates when he accelerates. He just bought the car 2 weeks ago and it has been doing it since he bought the car. It mainly happens when he is slowing down, when he presses the gas pedal; it takes about 1 or 2 seconds to engage. He is concerned this will happen in congested traffic. He has not yet talked to the dealer. He has not yet talked to the manufacturer but he plans on doing that today. Consumer was only able to provide the city, state and phone number of the dealer.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that when slowing down to make a turn or slowing down with the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle would not respond and suddenly the vehicle lunged forward. The vehicle lunged forward then vehicle began function normally. The dealer stated that they could not duplicate the failure. The service manager also stated that there were no recalls or defect investigations related to the failure. The failure continued to occur intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 28,000. Updated 09/24/10. Updated 09/24/10.
I was backing out of a parking space in a parking lot. I put the car in reverse, place my foot on the brake, put the car into drive, lifted my foot off of the brake and the car immediately began to accelerate without my foot even touching the accelerator. When I put my foot on the brake, the brake pedal went all the way down to the floor without stopping the vehicle. The van struck another vehicle that was parked in the parking lot, went over the curb of the parking lot, down an embankment into a ravine and headed towards a tree. The passenger that was in the front seat then reached over and put the car into park, which brought the car to a stop. The whole time the car was moving I was trying to stop the car by pumping the brakes, but they did not work. The car was accelerating the entire time until the passenger stopped it by shifting into park. The airbags did not deploy. Damage was done to the front passenger bumper and side of the car, the driver's side front tire exploded. After the accident, the brakes did function.
