69 problems related to electrical system have been reported for the 2006 Toyota Sienna. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2006 Toyota Sienna based on all problems reported for the 2006 Sienna.
The vehicle stability control system randomly engages and activates the brakes without cause. This can happen on a gentle curve going under the speed limit. It is very scary and I am afraid it is going to cause an accident. Internet research shows many owners with this issue and no information on the cause or a fix.
While driving vehicle on dry, non slippery roads with slight to moderate curves, vehicle illuminates traction loss light, sounds alarm buzzer, and at times applies brakes and dethrottles engine, even when no loss of traction has occurred. This happens while driving on straight roads with slight unevenness. Had to disconnect wheel speed sensor harness to disable abs/vsc system. When this happens, the vehicle automatically applies brakes to certain wheels and dethrottles the engine, this can pull the vehicle to one side sharply and can cause an accident.
Vehicle shut off when going over the drain pipe I rolled it into a gas station turned it on and off switched gears and it started to roll back on drive I tried to move the gears and turned off the the vehicle after ward no gear worked.
This happened to our 2006 Sienna today I was about to stop the car white parking it; we put the park they sill run; they never stop, so I turn off the engine; now they no more start very damaged.
When driving the vehicle regardless of speed or driving condition the traction control system randomly activates (it is always when going around a curve, but road conditions are dry, speed could be 70 or could be 20, there is no loss of control by me as a driver). This causes the car to abruptly brake. The computer system shows no issues when the dealer looks at it. When I deactivate the traction control system using the button the van will still beep loudly indicating a loss of traction control. It will also kick off the cruise control, but does not activate the automatic braking feature. This has been happening daily for 2 months with multiple visits to repair shops.
A/c system has had problems since 2010, they replaced the belts & told me it was fine until the warranty expired. I have had recalls on all the doors, airbags &nav system replaced three times, 2013 a/c was replaced, 2016 a/c replaced again, & a/c is being replaced for a 3rd time along with two other recalls. Tire warnings are persistent. I've never worn out tires or brakes before, except with this vehicle at a rate of every 25,000 miles. (4times td).
The power doors on our van broke after having it repaired. The door would not close until I slammed it shut and the cable snapped. I just got the car home. It happened in our driveway as we just got home. Called dealership wants 2,000 to fix. I paid 800 in March 2017 for same door.
Abs, vsc, trac off, brake lights on continuously, plus tire pressure light blinking. This is not normal and also annoying. Toyota doesn't seem to know what the problem is, and is only willing to allow me to spend thousands of dollars to "try" to fix this. Toyota needs to take responsibility! vehicle drives normally. Lights have been on for months. I was driving down the road, with a car load of children, late at night, coming home from a football game when the lights came on. We were driving across a long bridge, on a 6-lane roadway, going about 50 miles an hour. Very scary! I pulled over, but soon realized the care was drivable. I've spent so much money, trying to figure out what is going on. I am seeing online that this is not exclusive to Toyotas. Many vehicles exhibit this issue. Instead of helping us fix it, we are suppose to pay mechanics (dealers or individuals), then the problem comes back. Seems no one really knows why this is happening. I've been an exclusive Toyota owner for years. It disappoints me that Toyota won't help.
Airbag light goes on and off dealer said he can fix for $400. Or more. Claims he was able to wiggle it to help temporarily. Worked for a short time. Seems like many owners have this issue.
The rear passenger automatic sliding door will not work. It will not work in manual or automatic mode.
Sliding doors open while vehicle is in motion. Hatch back doesn't open up by electrically. Heating system stays on even when turned off. Stereo turns of when the heater heats up to long. My son was in side were the door opened up while we were driving on a main rd. My daughter was sitting on opposite side and sliding door popped open while on a main rd. Side door started closing while getting groceries out causing brusing to my girlfriend. Hatch doesn't work. Electrical problems.
The passenger side power auto sliding door suddenly can't close ( closed in half way then stuck ) , we must use wire tied with the b bar to secure the door. It's very shock why this door is malfunction without notice, made the passengers in dangerous situation while driving on a city street. With a warning light flash and driving slowly to back home, then have Toyota dealer check the problems. Toyota said the cable and motor jam together and just pass extend warranty ( 9 years or 120000 mile when which coming first ) I have pay for expensive repair ($1800. 00). I would say the auto sliding door must have some method to make it close by manual to ensure customer safety.
Side door is malfunctioning. Had to drive home with it open. Granddaughter had to move to rear because I couldn't get it shut after she got in. Frightening experience. Son-in-law had to use force to get it shut. Haven't used in 3 months until I could afford to have it looked at. There was an extension added to the warranty but said I wasn't eligible. $2,125 + tax to fix!!!!.
The drivers side sliding door does not work manually. When I push the button I hear the motor trying to open it, but it doesn't open at all.
Drivers sliding door will not work automatically.
Driver's side power sliding door won't close. It tries to close when you press any of the buttons or handle but it gets stuck and remains open.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sienna. While attempting to open the passenger side rear sliding door automatically, it would not open. The door had to be opened manually. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,000.
Airbag warning light continually goes off. This is a safety issue and needs a recall.
The airbag sensor light comes on and flashes. It will shut off and turn on randomly. The wire harness under the seat becomes loose or damaged as the seats are moved and airbags are not detected. The light stays flashing and airbags are non-functional. Toyota knows about this but tries to charge thousands of dollars for them to replace their faulty wires.
The air bag warning light started flashing.
VIN: 5tdza23c66s558835 year: 2006 make: Toyota model: Sienna number of open recalls: 1+ recall for instrument panel NHTSA recall number: opens new window takes away from VIN lookup section> 14v273 recall date: may 22, 2014 manufacturer recall number: e1s the dealer (kings Toyota, kings mall) and manufacturer are not repairing the vehicle after several requests and after sending recall notices. As a result I still have same defective spare tire carrier and instrument panel (crack appeared already). They keep saying that they will revert with no response there after.
Last week, the airbag warning light started flashing constantly while the car is running. A quick read of the owner's manual indicates a problem with the side or curtain airbags. More research on the internet indicates that this is a common problem with Siennas from 2006. This is a safety issue, and should be addressed by Toyota on a wide scale basis. My car is like new, not used much, never been in an accident and has 23000 miles. It is inexcusable for this to happen, and more inexcusable for the consumer to have to pay to fix it, considering that this appears to be a common safety issue with these cars. Please force Toyota to issue a recall, to deal with this problem fairly, for affected owners.
Two issues: (1) since 2012, the front passenger's door has made a loud popping, cracking sound every time it is opened or closed. Toyota dealer informed me the door weld is cracked and the entire door must be removed for a new weld and paint job at a body shop. Dealer also showed me a Toyota warranty coverage enhancement for this problem (the "door check mounting panel," pol07-04, issued 10/22/07), which extends up to 5 years or 100,000 miles. I never received notice of this in the mail, and it does not appear under the tsbs on the NHTSA site. My van is no longer covered at 110,000 miles. Note: I had this same problem on my driver's side door at only 32,000 miles, which was repaired under warranty. That means both my front doors have had failed welds. This clearly is a manufacturing defect which Toyota should cover, regardless of mileage. (2) power sliding door will not operate when interior buttons or key fob buttons are pushed. It will open manually, but it sticks and requires a hard pull. Dealer advises cabling is malfunctioning and the motor in the main control board is bad. I was told the warranty enhancement for the rear sliding door assemblies and power sliding door assemblies will cover the cables and latch, but does not cover the motor, the main control board, or the lock! this is a very costly repair. These components are defective and should be included in the warranty enhancement.
The power sliding door would not close completely, leaving the operation of the vehicle on the road unsafe. Upon inspecting the door, the power cord making the door open and closed looked frayed and knotted and off its tracks. The only way to get the door to completely close was to cut the cord. The door now operates manually. They passenger side cord plastic coating looks to be cracked and could eventually could become not operable as the driver side. Contacted the Toyota of des moines, they said there is an extended warranty of the power sliding door cords and its parts for 9 years and 120,000 miles, which ever comes first. Cannot fix my Toyota Sienna under the extended warranty because it was over 120,000 miles. I bought the vehicle when it was 127,000 miles. The previous owners did not get it fixed nor Honda of ames, the dealership where I bought the vehicle. I think Toyota did not do enough to get the word out to the previous owners of the extended warranty or the dealerships. I looked on the Toyota website, entered my VIN, they was nothing about extended warranties on this vehicle. This should be a recall, due to defective parts from Toyota and the potential unsafe situation this could of caused to people, especially young children. They are the target market for Toyota Sienna minivans-families with young children. If I bought a minivan with power doors, I expect to be able to use the power sliding doors as it was intended. I am very concerned about the safety of my three children who are all under 5 years old.
Sliding door quit working. Door would get stuck midway through operation and jam. Cables exposed outside of vehicle. Toyota stated there was no type of coverage or recall outside of regular warranty. Entire motor and cables need to be replaced for approximately $1400 or they recommended going to a manual override. Children have been nearly caught in manual door closing because of rapid closing, worse on a slope. Online research reveals that many Sienna's have same problem.
Srs light start blinking then stay on while driving. Checked both srs electrical connectors under front seats and both appears properly connected. Pulled out both connectors and pushed them back in, yet srs light still stay on.
1) airbags: blinking airbag light. Toyota service bulletin - $1200 repair. Unsure of safety implications. 2) suspension, steering rack. Leaking power steering fluid. Needs replacement of entire rack. $1200 repair. 3) electrical: power sliding rear door will only function in manual mode. Toyota customer service informs me of a customer support program for problem. Dealer failed to tell me about it. $1400 for repair. Dealer estimated trade in value for van: $6000.
Master head unit, including navigation, rear camera, bluetooth, and stereo, stopped working. It makes a clicking noise but the screen is dead and does not respond at all. Appears to be from a design defect that causes overheating of the unit over time. Multiple reports of similar failures are all over the internet. This is a significant safety issue as the rear camera, bluetooth, and navigation are all important items for extra safety in operating the vehicle. I think most people would expect that a non-mechanical part (like the radio/head unit) would last longer than 6 years, especially when it cost several thousand dollars.
Driver side sliding door would not close. Tried to use car remote, interior control . . . Neither worked. Was able to manually close it, but it was difficult to do. Door is not currently operational.
Cpsc#i270307a. 2006 Toyota Sienna. Consumer stated that there is a serious problem with the mechanical passenger doors. Stated on one occasion the rear passenger door exploded while her children were inside. The consumer also stated white smoke could be seen coming from the door. The dealer stated the motor exploded and it was very common. The consumer also stated the only working door is also exhibiting problems. The consumer stated as her daughter was entering the vehicle, the door suddenly slammed shut very quickly, just missing her by seconds.
The vehicle has a rheostat in the circuit that controls power to the dashboard light, activated when you turn the nighttime driving lights. The rheostat has failed, you can't see the dashboard at night, already cost me one speeding ticket. I spoke with a number of Toyota service centers, none could give me an idea of the issue or how much it would cost to repair. All of the dealerships were rude, complete disregard for occupant safety. Toyota wants about $1,000. 00 to replace the entire dashboard. The rheostat probably costs only about 30 cents. The design is over-engineered and unsafe. . .
We were stopped when we tried to open the passenger sliding electrical door. It opened about 8 inches and then it would not open or close. No matter how hard we tried we could not get the door to open or close. Even the manual override would not work. We were out of town and my husband had to sit by the door as we drove home 40 miles. The Toyota service was not open and we had no way to get our family 0f 7 home or anywhere. It was a very dangerous situation.
Passenger door the electronics just stopped working. I've been told I can use this manual right now but eventually will seize up by the dealership. Very costly part. Researching on line there are many owners of this van with the same issue. No voluntary recall on this part. I find this a safety hazard as you do not know when the door may cease to open. In the event of an accident on opposite side of van and door will not open and the passenger side no longer works, people in the back of the van will be trapped. Not sure why Toyota has not had a recall on this part.
On February 25, 2012, the passenger side power sliding door on my 2006 Toyota Sienna would not close unless I applied force. For months this issue did not resolve and became worse to the point where we could no longer use the door. This became a safety issue as my three young children could only exit through the driver side door into the street side. This put my children and me in danger of being hit by passing motorists. Furthermore, in the event of an emergency, this exit point would not be available to us. After receiving the warranty enhancement notice we took the vehicle in for repair in July 2012, but were informed the part needing replacement, identified as "r/sliding door rear support latch and cable assy" was not covered even though the warranty enhancement notice clearly stated "rear sliding door latch assemblies" and "power sliding door cable assembly" were covered. I was told the part numbers did not match. In July 2013, I opened a case with Toyota customer service. They again informed me the parts would not be covered under the enhancement warranty. I expressed my complete disappointment for the lack of regard for my family's safety. Shortly after, I received a surprising call from the dealership explaining that the part in question was actually covered. Their error was upsetting. I had to take my vehicle in twice to finally have the door repaired and had to pay for an additional part, a hinge that caused the door to sag and drag against the body of the vehicle which contributed to the safety issue and also caused visible damage to the exterior. I'm thankful the door is finally repaired, but worry that this issue has great potential for recurrence. I hope the NHTSA investigates the doors as I see many others have voiced similar complaints. Although the warranty enhancement has been Toyota's solution, it does not seem to be fixing the problem.
Automatic power sliding door on the passenger side recently stopped working correctly. The door motor tries to open the door but often stops after only moving an inch or so. Once you get it to open (either manually or with the power open option when it randomly works) door will not close when buttons are pushed. The door again will move 2 inches maximum and then stop. If you are able to manually close the door (which is very hard to do) it does not always latch completely closed. This is a major safety issue. If I can not open the door at school to drop off my child, what is going to happen in an emergency when I need to get my child out? I have found hundreds of similar complaints on multiple web forums, Toyota needs to replace the defective part that they quoted me almost $900 to fix.
