Driver seatbelt on 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan does not retract. This is a safety issue due to Toyota's design defect. The same issue is faced by numerous others as evidenced by tha fact that Toyota has issued a recall for this problem in other types of vehicles that use the same parts - e. G. Suvs, cars etc the current recall should be extended to Toyota Sienna minivans too given the safety implications.

9 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2014

Last Sunday as we were leaving for church my seven year old daughter sat in her safety car seat, reached for her seat belt and pulled it across her chest to fasten it. As she did so, it snapped in half. As a parent, I watched the incident in horror. I am so very grateful that we weren't in an accident where her life depended on the security of her belt. It appears as though somehow it was rubbed raw from the plastic hole it came out of in the vehicle. I hope this is a one time defect and not indicative of a larger problem. Seat belts save lives, but only if they work properly.

13 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

Last week, the airbag warning light started flashing constantly while the car is running. A quick read of the owner's manual indicates a problem with the side or curtain airbags. More research on the internet indicates that this is a common problem with Siennas from 2006. This is a safety issue, and should be addressed by Toyota on a wide scale basis. My car is like new, not used much, never been in an accident and has 23000 miles. It is inexcusable for this to happen, and more inexcusable for the consumer to have to pay to fix it, considering that this appears to be a common safety issue with these cars. Please force Toyota to issue a recall, to deal with this problem fairly, for affected owners.

16 Seat Belt problem

The driver-side seat belt gets jammed during retraction and becomes inoperable. The result is that the driver may continue driving without protection until the belt can be unjammed. This problem occurs repeatedly and it is very difficult to resolve, sometimes requiring an expensive visit to the dealer. Parts replacement is unlikely to resolve the problem since it seems to be a system issue.

17 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2013

The driver-side seatbelt got stuck after being fully retracted. At the top of the belt, where it retracts, there was a fold in the belt and it got wedged into the curve of the u-shaped housing of the belt. I have tried pulling on it, moving the adjustable track, using pliers and screwdrivers to get the belt to un-cinch. I still have not been able to get it loose.

We discovered that the second row passenger seat belt (built into the seat) did not ever engage. It latched with no issues but would not catch when appropriate. As our young child typically uses the seat, we did not know how long it had been inoperable before a fortuitous use by an adult. We took it to the dealership where they replaced the seat belt assembly at our cost.

22 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

One day I found that the seatbelt had torn in half in the rear folding seat. I suspect that a couple of weeks earlier it had gotten caught in the mechanics of the folding seat. The folding seat had gotten stuck for some reason and needed a lot of force to open it back up. Maybe it got a small tear then which grew. I don't know. Regardless, one day I found it completely torn in two and unusable in the rear drivers side.

26 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2009

Passenger seat belts on the right side in middle and rear row tighten, or retract, when passenger sits back. Then they do not release when the passenger leans forward. This means that the seat belt gets tighter and tighter until it is very uncomfortable. Our kids complained about the seat belts being too tight but they seemed to be working properly when I checked them. It seems to be an intermittent problem. When I finally experienced this myself, we were just out of the warranty period. Quote was $500 to repair each one.

27 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2009

Couple things happened- right after we both Sienna, about 1 month later the brake light went on. It was late Sunday night, so the dealership was closed. We went there the following week. They couldn't find a problem, cause the light went off. When I left the dealer, the light went back on so I left my car thereand told them I'm not going to drive until they find a problem. I have 2 small kids and their safety is first. They fix it and said that some sensor unfortunately was damaged during the delivery and they replace it. Then I got problem with my power side door- will still be closing even if you try to stop it. Solution from the dealer- lubricate and that's it- it still happen from time to time. Next- front passenger and second row seat belts- lock during the trip. Dealer solution- they don't see the problem. Now about 2 months ago my accelerator got suck while driving for about 15 seconds. I did not made a big deal out of it, because I was sure it suppose to happen, but NW after hearing what going on with other Toyota models, I'm just not sure. The gas pedal did not got stuck to the carpet for sure- I would see it, it was like it got stuck at 70mph. . . I love my Sienna and husband drives corolla too and we both love Toyotas. I just think now it's not about love for the engine, it's about safety of our children. If necessary I have documents regarding the brake sensor replacement, seat belts complains, etc. I spoke with the dealer about the gas pedal and said to me that my model its not in the recall and it could be something else, but did not offer to check what could it be. . .

30 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2009

My 4 year old son and his 7 year old cousin were sitting in the back seat of our Toyota Sienna van, each on either side with the middle seat empty. All of a sudden, my son gasped, "help me, please help me. " my mother, who was driving, looked back through the rearview mirror and saw that my son had the middle seat seatbelt wrapped around his neck three times (that belt hangs from the ceiling in our Sienna van). He could gasp a bit of air, but it was tight and getting tighter every time he moved. My mother whipped the car into a driveway and jumped in the backseat to free him. The belt was wrapped so tightly around his neck that she couldn't budge it and every little movement made it lock in tighter. She wedged two fingers between his throat and the belt to try to keep it loose enough for him to breathe and got my nephew to get her cell phone. She called 911 and they came and had to cut him out to free him. When we questioned my son afterwards, he said he had just been playing with the belt and didn't think it would get stuck around his neck.

31 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2008

I, together with my family had a car accident that happened in stamford, CT. A car struck my van perpendicularly at the left rear wheel which caused it to spun 180 degrees. As the collision occurred my seatbelt suddenly unbuckled which resulted myself slamming on the side door and incurring multiple contusion. I filed a report to Toyota motors about it, and they sent someone to look at it. According to their inspector there is no malfunction to my seatbelt. He concluded that I might had accidentally press the release button at the time of the accident. I have not touched the release button of the at the time of the accident. So far I haven't heard anything from them as of now. By the way, my van is a 2006 Toyota Sienna le awd . I was at the right second row when the accident occurred.

32 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

Driver's side front seat belt becomes folded and entrapped in the slot where it comes out of side column and will not retract, making it absolutely useless for its intended purpose. This result in driver not being restrained properly. Have taken it back to dealer at least 3 times to have them release the entrapment as well as fixing it myself numerous times. My wife cannot do the repair herself so she is often driving around basically with no seat belt until she get to the dealer or home for it to be repaired.

33 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

Problem is with the rear seat belts in my 2006 Toyota Sienna le van. Anytime someone (myself included) rides in the back row, the seat belts lock up and become so uncomfortable that they must be released to avoid extreme discomfort, this results in the seat belt being unfastened during vehicle movement and often I find my passengers just not using them due to this self-tightening.

34 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2006

To national highway traffic safety administration representatives, this e-mail is sent regarding my alert to the danger and safety concerns to citizens regarding the used car sales at Honda of fort myers, florida. Due to a "2006 Toyota Sienna" in fort myers, florida, that was sold as in very good to excellent mechanical condition and free of defects. It is been recently discovered that a major front end accident occurred on 11/16/206 in florida. The impact severity caused functionality concerns and defects to the airbags, airbag sensor, and seat belts which were never repaired properly from this accident and left damaged and defective. Sadly, the carfax history had only begun reporting this data on 10/31/2011. The owners or used car dealership neglected to disclose this facts and other severe defects, recalls, and damages that occurred to the engine. The internal damages and safety features were discovered through legitimate diagnostic by Toyota. Please help me to recover and obtain the police report or record held by law enforcement regarding the major accident incident on this vehicle that occurred on November 16, 2006, in florida. This vehicle may have been a salvage /re-titled but never appropriately and properly repaired for citizens use on the roads and highways. Carfax has provided no response to my e-mail to me but carfax began reporting this information on October 31, 2011. In addition, the VIN # has appeared in reports as an xle or as a limited model design which implies deception, used car dealership fraud, or misuse of the VIN # regarding doing the necessary, required, and correct repairs to make the vehicle safe to drive and perform safety recalls notices via certified mail sent on this vehicle to the owner or used car dealership at Honda of fort myers. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.

35 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

Problem is with the second row seat belts in my 2006 Toyota Sienna xle van. Anytime someone (myself included) rides in the second row, the seat belts lock up and become so uncomfortable as they continue to tighten that we just end up not using them soon after the trip begins. Not using them because of this defect poses a real safety hazard if we were to have an accident. Earlier on I complained several times. I was always told there is nothing wrong with them. We probably weren't using them correctly and I was even given instruction by the service department on how to hook up the seat belt. My complaints fell on deaf ears and I really do think it is a safety hazard. I told them they might have to ride it longer than the few minutes they did. I'm not so sure this problem is about my Sienna only. When I ride in the back seat of other vehicles the seat belt seems to tighten. If I had to guess, I'd say they don't put the same quality seat belt in the back of a vehicle as they do the front seats just because they would cost more. Anything you could do to remedy this situation would be greatly appreciated. Since this happens any time someone is in the back seat, I am picking a random incident date.
