36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2015

This afternoon I entered the highway and was going about 60-65 mph when my car suddenly started accelerating on its own, I repeatedly depressed the brake, even standing on it in an attempt to slow the car. The car was making a revving sound and the brakes were doing nothing to slow the car, it just kept accelerating. Finally, the brakes seemed to engage, the revving stopped, and the car seemed normal again. I pulled off the highway and called aaa to have the car towed to mechanic. Car has about 105,000 miles on it and it's been very reliable up until now. I will report to Toyota and I will not drive this car again, much less let my children ride in it.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2015

The car's vehicle stability control (vsc) will activate unexpectedly, braking hard and causing temporary loss of control. There is also an audible alarm and the vsc light turns on. Occurs intermittently when driving between 30-50 mph, typically on a gentle curve like a freeway interchange. Has occurred as many as 9 times on a single drive, and has caused a couple near accidents. An internet search of online forums shows that this issue is common in Siennas after 100,000 miles. Thus far my Toyota dealer has claimed they are unable to reproduce the problem.

38 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2015

Driving various speeds, up hill or down and into corners especially the traction control or stability control system would engage the brakes and cut engine power, alarm beeping. Happened several times over a one hour trip. Streering would pull to the right. Driving conditions were such that the system should not have engaged at all. Dry, warm, newer tires driving recommended speeds for the road. All drivers on the road were at risk with the sudden breaking and steering pulling into another lane.

39 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2015

I was driving my Toyota Sienna 2006 today morning and the driver in front of me abruptly stopped. I was maintaining a safe distance and immediately hit my brakes. Although the brakes seemed to engage, the car accelerated and very badly rear-ended the car in front me. Has this happened to anyone before with the car auto-accelerating on it's own?.

40 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2015

On March 13, 2015 driving on I-95 south in a 2006 Toyota Sienna van the cruise control would not disengage when the brakes were applied approaching an exit ramp. The vehicle would not slowdown in spite of pressing the brake pedal as hard as possible. Moving the control lever forward to disengage the function was also not successful. The exit ramp was inclined so the cruise control accelerated the engine in an attempt to maintain our speed at 70 mph. The vehicle went thru a stop sign, bounced off the guard rail and came to a sudden stop with the engine not running. The impact destroyed the right side of the vehicle and the stopping was so abrupt that the cell phone (in my shirt pocket)flew out ripping the pocket off the shirt. Neither the front nor the side air bags were deployed. Skid marks made by the vehicle¿s right front tire (and possibly the rear right tire) prior to and after hitting the guard rail indicate the brakes were working on at least this side. Skid marks attributable to the left hand tires were not noticed.

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

The car was sent to the dealer for timing belt kit replacement, upon inspection the technician found the anti lock brake system is malfunctioning due to the fact the above mentioned part, part # 44050-08030, the anti lock brakes hydraulic unit, is damage or inoperable. The technician told me this is not the first time he has encountered this situation in the same model/year of my car, but because Toyota has not pronounce on this matter there is little he can do about it except for replace the part which cost about $1,680. 00, he advise me to inform the proper authorities for further investigation on why the part malfunction.

44 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

As I was proceeding downhill towards a 4-way stop intersection at the bottom of the hill; I depressed the brake pedal and nothing happen. I could not stop the car. A car was stopped in front of me at the intersection, so I went to the left of the car to avoid rear ending him. I continued across the intersection toward the car across the street hoping to be able to fit between him and a telephone pole without hitting either to land in a snow bank. I managed to hit his front end on the passenger side of his car missing the telephone pole and landing in the snow above the curb. Nobody was injured, but his car and mine were damaged.

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

I was attempting to park my 2006 Toyota Sienna when suddenly the engine started to rev loudly & the car continued to move forward, even as I frantically applied the brakes. The car would not stop but my fast-thinking husband quickly put the car into neutral & then shut the car off. We drove to our Toyota dealer in vineland, NJ, where they performed diagnostic tests but couldn't find anything wrong. Their determination was that it must have been the floor mat pressing on the accelerator. I am sure that the mat was not the problem and that Toyota is attempting to cover up a problem with a car that is not already on their recall list.

46 Service Brakes problem

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

I have braking failure in my 2006 Toyota Sienna limited awd vehicle. I have taken the vehicle to my mechanics who has been unable to properly diagnose the problem. There are many reports of this problem on the internet and Toyota will not disclose the resolution to this commonly reported problem without charging a $89. 99 diagnostics charge. The repair is reportedly $1,200 to $2,000 tofix this problem. I believe this is a safety issue that should be recalled.

49 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2009

2006 Toyota Sienna. Consumer states oscillation problems with vehicle. The consumer stated he was driving down from the top of a mountain and he applied the brakes to limit his speed. The right front wheel went into a violent oscillation and he was barely able to control the vehicle. He stopped braking and shifted into a lower gear. He applied the brakes again and the oscillation returned. When he reached the bottom of the hill, the oscillation went away. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection. Upon, inspection the dealer stated there may have been a problem with the abs, but they could not verify it. On December 11, 2009 the problem occurred again. The consumer was driving north down a grapevine incline, when the right front wheel started to oscillate. The consumer immediately down shifted as he was much more prepared. The problem occurred again on February 13, 2010 while driving on a flat section of a highway. He applied the brakes and both wheels started to oscillate.

50 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2009

I was driving down a street approaching a 4 way stop. There was a car a good distance ahead of me. When I applied the brakes to stop, nothing happened. . I picked my foot up and pushed on the brake pedal again, still going faster. Now I am getting pretty close to the other car which is stopping for the stop sign. I pushed hard as I could on the brake (I'm sure it was the brake, I picked my foot up and put it back on the brake pedal at least 2 or 3 times) so I swerved to the left to avoid the car. By now I am going pretty fast. There were cars coming the other way, so I tried to turn the corner to avoid hitting them, was going too fast to make the corner, so wound up hitting a concrete wall. I am very sore, chest, right hand, left knee. Lots of bruises, luckily no broken bones that I know of. I am not sure about the air bag. The police asked me if it deployed, I looked down at the steering column and saw it there, deflated and with a rip in it, but I don't remember being actually hit with it, however I don't remember hitting my hand or knee either, but obviously I did. I heard one of the policemen say I mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake, but that is just not true. I know I was on the brake. The car is totaled, so no repairs.

Brakes wear out extremely quick. Replaced the brakes at 1 year with 17,000 miles and now again today at 2 years and 30,000 miles. I drive mostly on the freeway without any quick or abrupt stops. There seems to be a problem with the brake system.

53 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sienna. While driving 60 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to stop. 55 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

Safety problem with 2006 Toyota Sienna xle, our Sienna is not safe. On numerous occasions the wheels were spinning when we tried to drive after stopping at the stop sign, at traffic lights, or in the middle of the intersection. It is a very dangerous malfunction, because it prevents the driver from merging into or escaping from heavy traffic of northern virginia. It happened in all kinds of weather and road surface conditions. I am a very careful driver; I spend a lot of time driving my three young children. I never had an accident and I never had a problem with the spinning tires on any other car I have driven. We contacted our dealership and Toyota company. Their first response was that it is not their problem. After our intervention the dealership agreed to drive test our car. The test was performed by one of the employees (not clear if he had any car safety inspection training). He took our car for a short drive around the neighborhood, alone, in the perfect weather, reporting back that he did not notice any problem. The test drive was a complete waste of time. We have problems with the car usually when there is more than one person in the car, during the rain etc; in other words, in average driving conditions. Since the test we had the same problem again, many times. I believe we are not the only owners of Sienna, who have the same problem. I observed it several times on the street, with other Siennas. Also, my informal poll among our friends gave the same results.
