Extreme wheel corrosion of all 4 alloy wheels on 2006 Toyota Sienna xle awd. Paint is flaking off, began as bubbling a couple of years ago. Only 65k on the vehicle.
Incident - 2006 Toyota Sienna limited 4 original equipment alloy wheels all 4 wheels show signs of bubbling and peeling loss of tire pressure on 2 wheels.
Toyota Sienna 2006 rims r defective paint bubbling n chipping off Toyota has checked n said these rims r defective but would not replace because its not in warranty.
No accident or fatalities, but I am concerned about the rapidly deteriorating condition of all four 17" alloy wheels (painted aluminum). Corrosion is progressing since the time I first noticed it starting (approximate incident date). Current mileage is 74,000. The paint is blistering starting at the inside edge of each wheel opening. It is quite severe and I am concerned that if this is not addressed, the corrosion might propagate a crack in one of the wheel spokes. I have another car with more than twice the mileage with similarly painted wheels with no corrosion after 36 years. This vehicle has seen three times the number of winters with salted roads. My 1986 Porsche 944 wasn't washed in the winter any more frequently than the Toyota. It appears this problem with Toyota is so prevalent that they prefer disgruntled customers over responsibly addressing this problem.
2006 Toyota Sienna rims are bubbling/flaking off. Starting to rust.
Severe corrosion on alloy wheels allows air to leak from tires. This results is almost constant low tire pressure, undue wear on tires, and safety issue. Issue began when the vehicle had only 14000 miles. Dealer refinished two wheels under warranty but refused to redo the other wheels or the same wheels when they quickly corroded again. Ongoing issue vehicle now has 66000 miles. In my opinion wheels need to be replaced with ones made from a different material --- aftermarket wheels do not seem to be available for this vehicle (awd).
I bought a 2006 Toyota Sienna in December. ,2006, the following September while coming back from vacation I had a blowout on my factory installed bridgestone tire. I do not necessarily believe the problem is the tires, rather, the alloy wheels, as the tire pressure light goes on frequently, the wheels have been peeling since I bought the vehicle new, when I inquired about a problem with the alloy wheels Toyota blew me off. I know many are having the same issue with their alloy wheels. I think the alloy wheels are defective causing problems in tire pressure and ultimately causing blowouts. The bubbling and peeling just makes it apparent cosmetically that there is a bigger problem. Please investigate.
Removed the run flat tires and replaced them with regular tires. I am constantly having the "tire balance" light go off in my car and getting flat tires. Ever since I switched the tires the alignment has always been issue.
Rims on 2006 Sienna xle began bubbling and corroding after 1 year. Dealership will not replace them or acknowledge that there is a problem. Corrosion will eventually be a safety concern.
There appears to be a recall for the spare time mounting for this vehicle. I have waited months and months for replacement parts. The dealer has no estimate for when the parts will be available. In the interim, I must either ride without a spare or the spare is loose in the back of the vehicle. Date of incident (on your form) is approximate.
I have a 2006 Toyota Sienna Mini van awd which builds up mud and snow on the inside of the wheels. When the snow and mud begin to fall off, the car begins to shake violently. When this occurs you are only able to drive the car safely up to approximately 25 mph. At 45 - 55 mph the vehicle shakes so violently that if I hit a patch of ice or water I would lose control and create an accident.
Safety problem with 2006 Toyota Sienna xle, our Sienna is not safe. On numerous occasions the wheels were spinning when we tried to drive after stopping at the stop sign, at traffic lights, or in the middle of the intersection. It is a very dangerous malfunction, because it prevents the driver from merging into or escaping from heavy traffic of northern virginia. It happened in all kinds of weather and road surface conditions. I am a very careful driver; I spend a lot of time driving my three young children. I never had an accident and I never had a problem with the spinning tires on any other car I have driven. We contacted our dealership and Toyota company. Their first response was that it is not their problem. After our intervention the dealership agreed to drive test our car. The test was performed by one of the employees (not clear if he had any car safety inspection training). He took our car for a short drive around the neighborhood, alone, in the perfect weather, reporting back that he did not notice any problem. The test drive was a complete waste of time. We have problems with the car usually when there is more than one person in the car, during the rain etc; in other words, in average driving conditions. Since the test we had the same problem again, many times. I believe we are not the only owners of Sienna, who have the same problem. I observed it several times on the street, with other Siennas. Also, my informal poll among our friends gave the same results.
Within 1 year of purchasing vehicle new the wheels started to show signs corrosion in the form of bubbling of the finish. We contacted our local dealer and they said it was due to road salt and me not cleaning them properly and I would have to pay to replace them. We took the vehicle back to the dealer shortly before the warranty ran out and again were told that it was our fault and we would have to pay to do something about it. We took it to the dealer one last time after the warranty and were told since the warranty was up they could do nothing for us. All 4 wheels are now corroded severely. Large chunks of paint routinely fall off during washing. I'm worried about safety at this point and plan to replace the rims at my own expense. I've owned multiple cars with similarly coated alloy rims and have never had this issue before. It wasn't due to me cleaning them properly, it's a manufacturing defect.
2006 Toyota Sienna limited 60,000 miles. All 4 alloys have bubbling and corrosion. Toyota motor corp refuses to address this problem stating that warranty 3/36 is past. Extended warranty from Toyota does not cover this.
I have a 2006 Toyota Sienna xle limited awd. The alloy is flaking off my wheel rims. This started almost immediately after my purchase in 2006. Now all 4 rims have a large amount of alloy missing. Eventually this will lead to rusting and rim failure. I've been checking for a recall/replacement notice but all I see are similar complaints and no replacement offer. I've consulted with dealers and they say I will have to pay to have them replaced.
