I parked my car on an upward inclining driveway and left it in idle. I went inside the house to go and get my dog and speak to my in-laws. I brought the kennel out to the car, lifted the tailgate and put the kennel in. I went back in the house, got the dog food, put the dog food in the tailgate. I went back inside and was speaking to my in-laws when all of a sudden we heard a loud crash. We went outside and my car had accelerated and crashed into their garage. There was no one in the car at the time of the acceleration. The dog was still in the house with us. The car was in park. The tailgate will not lift unless the car is in park while idling. When the car is in drive, the doors lock. So, we know it was in park. The car caused extensive damage to the garage from the force of the acceleration. The car also had gravity working against it, as it was at an upward incline.

I attempted to merge onto the expressway and after pushing the gas pedal the van suddenly accelerated beyond my control. I eased off the pedal and the van continued to serge ahead with no way for me to stop or slow it down as the brakes would not work. I saw the rpm reach level 6 and speed increase to 70 in seconds but as it was the expressway, I was able to keep my distance from cars in front of me. I switched the lever to the neutral position and the van slowed down and then I went back to drive and it roared back up to 70 mph with the rpm again at 6 and I tried turning the cruise control on and then braking to see if it would shut down the gas but no luck. I went back and forth from d to n for about 2 minutes and then on one of the movements from n to d it shut down back to normal. I dropped the van off at my Toyota dealer the next day and am waiting to see what "headquarters " decides.

I was pulling up into my garage driveway, and applied the brake and then without any kind of warning my Toyota 2007 Sienna started accelerating and I couldn't stop it, even though I was pressing on the brake as hard as I could. It ran through my garage door and took off half of the garage housing on the left side, and then it rammed into the wall separating the garage from the house. Out of desperation I shifted from drive to park and that finally stopped the van. So far we are awaiting an investigation, in the meantime though our lives are in limbo because of this.

On my 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan the rear hatchback gas struts have failed. This is a dangerous situation that could easily get a small child killed. I almost had this happen when my 5 year old was helping to get groceries out while I was holding the gate open it slipped and came crashing down. Luckily he had just moved and it missed him. These gas struts are a recall item on the power operated lift gates, why aren't they on the manual ones. And the cost of replacements is terrible, $180/ea. I turns my Toyota Sienna into a driveway of a storage facility and placed the vehicle into park while trafficpassed by as this road was also the exit road from costco. When it was safe from other vehicles and is was safe to back out of the driveway I took the vehicle out of park and suddenly the vehicle lurched forward ramming into an iron gate bending it wide open. The vehicle continued through the gate even though I turned off the ignition , jammed my brakes an tried to place it into park all to no avail. Continuing through the gate I was able to reach a large open area whereupon I turned the steering wheel as hard as I could to make sure the vehicle would only circle. After a bit of time the engine roared pickup speed then stopped. This same surge occurred on several occasions but I thought I did something to cause this problem.

I have owned a 2003 Toyota Sienna since new. I had a extended 100k warranty on this vehicle. At 80,000 miles a check engine light came on, it was replaced, at 82,000 miles it came on again and was replaced. , then at 94,000 miles the car started stalling and would not crank for several minutes, the dealer told me that it was in my head, nothing was wrong, it continued to do this more often, at 94,400 I told it back and the idiots told me the same thing, I fought with this condition until it final effected the accelerator, the car revved up wide open and continued until I got it to the dealer while it was doing the revving without touching the gas pedal, they finally repaired the value . I wrote to Toyotas and told them and they said it was not of there concern, idiots knew there is a problem and would not fix it, but 800 dollars later they did and not under the warranty. Those people need to be held accountable for hiding all the concerns, I want me repair money back and plan on causing enough crap with the news media until I do.
I have a Toyota Sienna and I have had my foot stuck on the accelerator at least three times causing a surge. A pair of diabetic shoes issued by the va was the cause. They were tennis type shoes with a deep tread. I discarded the shoes in case I had to drive with them on. I was able to pull loose each time and get to the brake. I wonder if the va should be warned. Also wonder if other Toyota problems involve shoe type.
Driver side passenger door will not open past about 4 inches due to locking mechanism at bottom that engages when fuel door is open stuck in the up position. Fuel door is closed but the locking mechanism that prevents the door from opening when the fuel door is open remains up.

Unintended high speed acceleration I was accelerating to merge onto the highway and I briefly used the brakes to allow a large truck to go past before merging. I'm not sure if I then put my foot on the accelerator or the brake, but the 2003 Toyota Sienna began acceleration on its own as though the cruise control had been set at 100 mph and it was trying to get there! I did not have the cruise control on at the time. I then put on the brakes to reduce my speed, and I was able to reduce the speed but the brakes were definitely fighting against the vehicle's desire to go 100 mph. I pulled the car off at the next exit and was unsure of the best way to stop the vehicle. My 2 kids were in the back seat and my daughter was saying she was very scared. I continued to apply the brakes and pulled over. I turned the ignition off while the van was still moving just to get it to stop. After 5-10 seconds I turned the car on again and the engine was still revving at a high rpm. I turned it off again, waited a while longer, and when I turned it on again the van behaved normally. I fear that in a different situation this could have resulted in a serious accident or injury. If anyone had be in front of me and I had needed to stop quickly, I would have been unable to stop. My mechanic checked out the car yesterday and found nothing wrong. His guess is that the cruise control actuator did not function properly. I read about other similar incidents involving unintended acceleration with Toyota Siennas. This is a serious problem that needs immediate attention.
After opening and closing the fuel cap door on the 2004 Sienna causes the driver side sliding door to intermittently jam and not open. This has happened several times in the past 2 years. To fix, one must squeeze hand into door crack and push down the lever that is stopping the door from sliding. Sometimes this jam causes the door to not close.
Gas leaking.
The gas in the lift gate support of the back door escaped 3 years after I bought it.

Truth in Toyota sticker about mpg on their cars.
The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Sienna. The fuel air sensor failed. Also, fuel sensor failed in contact's son's 2001 Toyota highlander which had the same mileage. Called Toyota, and they said there were no recalls . Had both parts replaced, $282. 00 each. Now the ignition has failed.
My husband and I purchased a 2004 Toyota Sienna in Feb. 2004. We traded it on 6/24/2005 for a 2005 Toyota Sienna. The reason was we did not need an 8-pass. And captain chairs in 2nd row and I hated the color. So we got a 2005 blue mirage le 7-passenger on 6/24/05. But, yes we have a problem my 04 got 19. 6 mi. Per gal. This one is only getting 14. 3 mpg. I still drive to same places and I pushed the 04 to its limits unlike the 05 that I drove like it is a baby. I brought my car to the dealership on 7/25/2005 to have them find out what the problem was. I was told they were going drive it 75 miles. Well they drove it 210 mi. They said that the overhead computer was not set correctly and it was reset to 22. 7 mpg. As I was leaving the computer was dropping on the mpg, I called the service manager rob. He told me that I was wrong and that I needed to drive it for at least 5,000 mi. Before I knew what the car would get. Bull my 04 always got 19 to 20 mpg. Today I manually tracked it and once again my car is only getting 14. 33 mpg. Toyota corp. Called me about the van. Have not heard anything from them. They said there was something wrong with it. She said her manager would contact me still no word. So, tonight my husband and I went up there to speak with the manager who sold us the car, he wasn't there but another manager said I needed to speak with the manager that sold it to us. And to never go by the computer always figure gas mi. Manually. So, why did I pay for it? we have bought 4 Toyotas from them in the last 4 years and have remained faithful customers. I did not see anything on your website that referred to this. Do you have any ideas? thank you, gena m. Stokes.
I bough a 2002 Toyota Sienna new in 2001. The warranty ran out two months ago and now I have a problem. The problem is the car does not accept gas at the gas station. I brought it to the dealer (penn Toyota - 516-621-6800 ) for its annual inspection. I called to make the appointment and mentioned the problem, already, before seeing the vehicle they said it was the charcoal canister that is clogged. They replaced it at a cost of almost 500 dollars. I paid, left and went straight to a gas station. The car still does not accept gas. I returned the car. Now it needs two more parts that require four hours of labor at 85 dollars an hour and 200 dollars worth of parts. I mentioned that the problem has not gone away and that they replaced the carbon canister for no reason. They said yes it needed to be changed that they see this problem four to five times a week. Now what???????.

I bought my 2002 Toyota Sienna, 05/04/2004, 7011 miles after my check engine light was on. Dealer fixed it by replacing emission control charcoal canister. In June 2005 & after approximately 1500 miles later, gas refueling valve started shutting off, even though gas was not full. Dealer checked & said I need a new emission control charcoal canister, because my previous canister was out of warranty, I have to pay $495 (part+ labor) to replace it. I complained of this problem repeating soon, dealer could not give satisfactory answer. In consumers website I have found out that there are lots of complaints about 2002 Toyota vehicles. Is it possible this part in this year failed more often than normal?.
