2 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2009 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/11/2011

We were backing out of a parking place at the hot springs village walmart. The van accelerated on its own, then the brakes failed. No amount of pressure would stop the van. We stopped by hitting a parked car, doing some damage to it. We had the van towed to a body shop to have the exterior repaired. We were afraid to drive it. After being repaired, we had it towed to lander's in little rock where it was pronounced safe to drive. A few weeks later we sold it and bought a 2011 Toyota Sienna van. (an accident report will follow on the 2011 Toyota van VIN#[xxx]) information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

We drove from pembroke to north carolina, taking a few breaks in between two weeks ago. We pulled into a service station to use the rest rooms and purchase cold drinks, in roanke springs, nc. My wife pulled into a handicapped parking spot in front of the store. She was only 10 feet from stopping the vehicle when the car accelerated forward and fortunately crashed into a concrete pillar otherwise we would have gone directly into the store. The surge of the car accelerating pushed me back into my seat, passenger. Our vehicle Toyota Sienna struck the concrete pillar directly in the middle of the front end. I then reached down and turned the car off. We were traveling with another couple, they had parked their car and heard the squeal of the brakes being applied and then the crash of our vehicle into the concrete pillar. The car is being repaired in roanke springs, nc at the bones Toyota dealer. We then rented a vehicle and continued our trip to florida.

4 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/18/2009

Upon engaging the brake while pulling into a parking spot at our local pizza shop in glenwood springs, CO, our Toyota Sienna accelerated rapidly and hit the brick building 10 feet away. There were no personal injuries but damage to the car and a window in the pizza shop were significant. The car was still going after the crash and if there had not been a brick wall to stop the car I fear what would have happened. The incident was immediately reported to the police and the local Toyota dealer. Though we love the car we are afraid to drive it anymore, nor are we willing to sell it considering what could happen. We need a proper way to dispose of it.

5 Speed Control Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/30/2009

Failure of the adaptive cruise control module on a 2006 Toyota Sienna xle limited. The adaptive cruise control module, located under the front bumper on the passenger side, fails completely and continuously resulting in complete failure of the cruise control system. The module is not sealed properly thereby allowing moisture inside resulting in corrosion and failure of the part. When actuated, the part is designed to automatically slow the vehicle while approaching slower traffic from behind. Failure of this part while driving could result in an accident if the module does not automatically slow the vehicle properly. The vehicle in question has only 21,000 miles on it. The failure occurred at approximately 15,000 miles. Toyota of colorado springs replaced the part at cost to the owner of the vehicle.
