36 Suspension problem of the 2017 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/18/2017

I bought new 2017 Toyota Sienna awd xle. I noticed in first month that steering wheel started pulling left. Took the van for alignment but never got fixed. Now I have 25000 miles tires rotation dealership told me that my tires are more wearing inside than outside. And it's not safe on the roads. I have 4 kids that we use this van for daily transportation. I don't feel safe on the road with myself and my family.

37 Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/13/2017

Detroit axle, in michigan, is selling defective struts, straight out of the junkyard, and rack and pinion steering and many other suspension parts, advertised as new, by just placing a coat of paint in them. They offer a warranty of one year in the products, but the consumer must pay for the removal and installation of the part. I played their game for three times and I foolishly paid 3 times for the strut installation, plus other damages the faulty struts caused me . The faulty struts caused my frame to loosen, my horizontal drive shaft to damage, and rack and pinion steering, that detroit axle sold. Well, my vehicle shakes violently at between 45-55 miles per hour, thus having to pull to the side of the road. I managed to drive to a mechanic through back roads at low speeds. The defective rack and pinion steering and the defective, sold as new parts, and advertised as new parts failed in three occasions ane damaging my other parts of the vehicle. It cost me over $3000 to replace those parts plus the money that I gave to detroit axle, with the collusion of ebay selling his products. Once the parts are received, within 60 days, he closes the feedback on his page, thus not letting the suspecting public complain against his junkyard of defective parts. Ebay protects him. I still have to replace my michelin new tires for more expense and the third pair of struts are still on the vehicle, in which I still have to replace for a third time!.

39 Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/15/2017

Suspension coil springs break at very low mileages (around 40k or 50k mileages) impairing ride, steering and braking making the vehicle unsafe to drive. Besides the suspension coil springs corroding, there seems to a larger problem of the entire underbody corroding with the Toyota Siennas.

On August 20th, 2016 my Toyota Sienna 2006 experienced a failure of the anti-sway controls which resulted in sudden deceleration and severe damage to the power steering, as well as the suspension system. This incident occurred while decelerating into a turn. Attached is a narrative description of the incident and the estimate provided by the servicing dealership to repair.

42 Suspension problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/13/2016

I put the vehicle in park, yet although the shift is in park, the indicator says its in reverse, then the van starts rolling backwards. Shut off the engine and its like the van is in neutral, the van starts rolling down hill. Extremely dangerous I almost ran over a child behind me! I spent thousands of dollars to replace shifter cable, I later saw recall on 2014 model but 2011 model has identical problem.

46 Suspension problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

When I am driving my 2004 Sienna, its shaking so badly I feel like wheels going to roll out. Also brake make worse, and engine mounts and transmission mount are very bad condition. I don't know why its bad breaking in rain.

47 Suspension problem of the 2014 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/12/2015

Vehicle eating tires, in four years I went thru 4 sets of tire, I did 4 time alignment and at least 10 time balance and rotation.

48 Suspension problem of the 2014 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/24/2015

Excessive outer wear on front tires, since may 2015 I put three set of tires all front wear out very quick. Local dealer have all record and also I have receipt for all.

49 Suspension problem of the 2010 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/08/2015

Suspension systems specifically shocks and struts are wearing out quickly. Divided opinion between many local mechanics on this, some suspect it is caused due to wear and tear while others think it could be due to possible manufacturing issues specifically for running it on a full load - 8 passenger vs 7 passenger configuration).

50 Suspension problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

On turns, there has been a "clunk" noise under right front driver side. Upon being examined by a local mechanic, I was informed that the right front tie rod is loose and the rack and pinion boot is torn and leaking. Estimated cost of repair was $ 1000. Upon researching this matter I have discovered that this is an extremely common occurrence. I contacted Toyota customer service and was informed that although several Siennas fall under a service campaign to fix this issue, mine does not. They were not willing t o budge on that this is a manufacturer defect. I am understanding that they issued a psb009112 on this issue but not a full recall. I also understand that they changed design after 2006 so obviously a manufacturer issue. Very disappointed in Toyota, as I've had Hyundai and suburu stand by manufacturer defects several times even without a recall via safety campaigns. This seems like a dangerous issue for Toyota not to be concerned.

51 Suspension problem of the 2010 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/17/2015

My local garage discovered that a suspension coil spring in my 2010 Sienna is broken. I have discovered by searching the internet that this is fairly common in Toyota Sienna models (I saw 2007, 2008 and 2009 models reported to have this problem, in my very brief internet search). This is a family car, and has seen only normal highway driving, no heavy loads and certainly nothing that would normally break a spring. I have discussed this with both the local Toyota dealership's service manager, as well as the corporate Toyota "customer experience" representative. I have explained that a broken coil suspension spring could result in a slashed tire sidewall and associated blowout; a slashed brake hydraulic line and associated loss of braking ability; erratic suspension movement and associated loss of control of the vehicle at high speed. I have been told by Toyota that there is no recall nor repair assistance for this problem.

52 Suspension problem of the 2010 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

Both rear shocks failed and started while driving (in motion) in city traffic. Vehicle had 69,000 miles at the time. Purchased new in 11/2009. Vehicle is not used tow or haul heavy loads. The vehicle is driven in maine. The Toyota dealership performs all repairs. Very expensive repair. The dealership noted no visible or obvious reason for 2 rear shock failures at such low mileage.

53 Suspension problem of the 2010 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/31/2015

I took my 2010 Sienna in for a 80000 mile service, was told that the boots around steering rack was in bad shape. I was told that the steering needed to be replaces and the power steering unit would flushing. I had experienced no steering problems with my car. The car less than 77000 miles. The is no evidence of oil leakage. Is this typical for replacing the steering rack at $1400?.

54 Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/17/2015

The main spring that supported the entire front of the car just collapsed as I was about to park my car. Thank god it did not happen while I was on the highway. Although there was a safety/service bulletin listed by Toyota on this part they would not cover the replacement cost of almost $1500.

56 Suspension problem of the 2015 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

I have a 2015 Toyota Sienna xle with 35,800 miles. - (no specific conditions or driving styles) it is on it's third transmission (second replacement was at 29,800 miles) - newest recall on the side doors opening randomly. - (no specific conditions or driving styles. Happens completely randomly) cruise control lever light flickering. It was replaced three times now. It was just replaced the third time recently, so I'll see if it happens again. - (no specific conditions or driving styles. Happens completely randomly) dash randomly freezes for about 5 minutes and then resets to the default settings (it has happened seven times and continuing) and Toyota still cannot figure out the problem. - (while driving on a clear day on a city street) climate control shut off completely by itself without touching any buttons while driving. I was able to turn it back on, but it should not shut off without any action. - bad support bearing for axle on front passenger side (22,900 miles).

57 Suspension problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

On Monday August 4th, 2014 after a funeral, I drove into the parking lot of the church where I was going to gather with my fellow friends and family that lost their family member that day. . I drove into the driveway and attempted to reverse my minivan, I had my hand on the shift change to shift my car, upon attempting to change shifts my car accelerated and I lost control of the vehicle, causing my car to go hit the side of the building of the church damaging the gas tank, and causing the gas to leak. At the time of the scene and accident my 6 year old was in his carseat behind me and was scared at what had just happened, he panicked and took off his seat belt, opened the door, and went running out of the vehicle. . At that moment trying to regroup myself to see why my car had accelerated with force forward, I parked my vehicle and went looking for help. . I cannot explain how my car gained so much force to end up over 2 feet in the air over a small wall. . . I did notice my car hit the gas tank and heard gas leaking and went to cry for help. . I am not aware of any recalls on my van except for the undercarriage tire, which at this time the recall is not complete because they have not finalized a schedule for me to have it checked. . . Also I am upset that the minivan upon the impact of hitting the wall did not diploit the airbag. . . I googled safety recall on Toyota Sienna and came upon a recall on more than 615k Sienna models over a rollaway risk. . The years listed were 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 Toyota Sienna, and a recall affecting a possible rollaway upon shift gears. . According to the article the shift lever cold be moved out of position depressing the the brake pedal, and because of this fault, the affected Siennas could roll away without causing warning, increasing the risk for crash. . Well I was in a crash.

61 Suspension problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/27/2012

We were infomed by Toyota service that the tires are balding and need replacement. They informed us that this is a tire issue. We contacted firestone, and they informed us that there are issues with the Sienna prematurely wearing out tires due to alignment issues with the design of the Sienna. Firestone agreed to pay for half the cost of new tires. Toyota on the hand has given us the run around and is not taking ownership. We have found that through blogs there are customers that are replacing tires after less than a year of use (<15k miles). We have the entire thread of conversations and maintenance records that show that there is a problem with the design and manufacture of the vechicle's alignment as verified by Toyota service and other repair shops. This is the 5th new car we have owned, and tires last at least 40k miles. Toyota should own up to this and inform customers that they will need to replace tires every 15k miles!.

62 Suspension problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/20/2012

2004 Sienna failure of driver side front suspension spring in January 2012, passenger side in January 2013. Each spring cracked causing vehicle to drop while in motion. Metal in cracked areas appeared porous possibly suggesting flaws in metal during manufacture. 2013 failure included crack near middle of spring, with a sharp broken piece sticking out close to tire. Thankfully occurred while parking/at low speed; failure at high speed may have resulted in puncture of tire/loss of vehicle control. 2012 failure included crack near top. Photographs of the 2012 spring are available upon request. Vehicle is in good condition, with only ~65,000 mi at time of first incident. Driven on paved roads, light loads. Body rust free with minimal surface corrosion of unpainted/undercarriage items. Contacted Toyota in 2012, filed case. Was informed similar issues had not been reported, failure was not covered. Noting extreme hazard posed by broken spring puncturing tire, encouraged further evaluation. Obtained/replaced at my cost spring from local Toyota dealer, had aligned. Contacted Toyota in 2013 regarding second failure. Noted was second occurrence/extreme hazard posed by puncturing tire, encouraged further evaluation. Obtained replacement/had aligned at my cost. Recently contacted Toyota; no new information available. Broken springs can result in loss of vehicle control as can tire puncture. Failures I experienced occurred at low speeds; if at higher speeds, results may have been catastrophic. Noting light use and excellent condition of vehicle as well as appearance of the broken springs, Toyota parts staff and outside mechanics indicated that manufacturing issues may be cause of failures. Replacement springs included different color coding; parts staff indicated this may correspond to more recent production, suggested that new parts may be of better quality.

63 Suspension problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/11/2011

Excessive tire wear to vehicle front tires detected after 5,846 miles. Alignment checked by dealer. New front tires were installed using a 65,000 mile rated tire. At 22,000 (16,000 miles from time of replacement) excessive wear (to steel cords) noted to new front tires. Manufacturer claims there is no mechanical/design defect in vehicle. Excessive and premature tire wear is creating potentially unsafe driving/operating conditions.

64 Suspension problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/10/2011

The tires do not last more than 18 months on this vehicle. The tire dealer will not warranty tires because it has obvious misalignment based on the tire wear. I had the alignment checked and it is all within factory specs. This is very frustrating. I get less than 20,000 miles on a set of tires that cost $600.

65 Suspension problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/02/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle started to jerk violently. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised that the suspension and front struts needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 89,000.

66 Suspension problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

The rear gate struts / suspension have completely failed. The struts will not hold open the rear gate at all. My wife and children have great difficulty (in many instances it is impossible and / or dangerous) holding open the gate with one hand or head and trying to load or unload simultaneously. It appears that there was a partial recall for Siennas with the power liftgate, but we do not have a power liftgate.

67 Suspension problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/21/2010

This complaint is in regard to Toyota recall 08v-244, which replaces the struts on the back door hatch. The dealership, fred anderson Toyota of raleigh, informed me of the recall and recommended that the struts be replaced. Unfortunately, once the new struts were in place the door would no longer close properly. The dealership informed me that the motor was too weak to work with the new struts and that I would have to pay for a new motor. I have found on edmonds. Com that this is a common problem. It is evident that Toyota did not consider the impact of the new struts on the motor. Consumers should be made aware that allowing Toyota to replace these struts per the recall will render the back door inoperable. Toyota should revise this recall so that new struts will be used that actually work with the existing motor or installation of a new motor that will work with the new struts should be covered. An additional safety concern is that the new struts are too powerful. The back door shoots up like a rocket. This may be caused b/c the existing motor is too weak to offer any resistance. I am afraid that the door will cause damage to property or another person b/c it opens up much too fast and much too hard.

68 Suspension problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/09/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sienna. While driving 70 mph, the traction control warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle inadvertently pulled to the right. After releasing the accelerator pedal and slowing the vehicle down, the vehicle was able to operate correctly. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

69 Suspension problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/15/2008

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sienna. While parked the contact noticed the tires were wearing out unevenly and stated the suspension was designed to be tipped inwards and causes uneven wear on the inside edge of the tires. The contact stated it occurs on both front and rear driver and passenger side. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians stated there was a problem with the suspension but nothing could be done because that was the design of the suspension. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000. Ds.

70 Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/03/2007

Driver side coil spring broke 3/4 turn off the bottom, vehicle was still driveable - was replaced under warranty. One year later passenger side spring broke in same fashion - had to pay this time. In may 2013, replacement driver side spring broke again in same way. In all cases, examination of the break showed rusty vein in the middle of the coil wire.
