6 Traction Control System problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

On my 2005 Toyota xle limited, the traction control system engaged on its own while driving about 50 mph on a flat road in dry conditions, as a result the brakes engaged on its own and the car shook profusely for a couple of seconds. I had to hold onto the steering wheel to maintain control and avoid going into the neighboring lane. My 2005 Toyota Sienna has 84,000 miles on it. There have been two other incidences when the traction control engaged but the brakes did not. I have only owned the car for 1 week and I am communicating with Toyota but I they have yet to organize a recall for this very dangerous problem. I plan to drive to canada in this car so I hope we can find a solution.

8 Traction Control System problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/22/2012

2005 Sienna was driven to a parking garage and parked for two hours. Upon returning to the Sienna and starting the engine, three lights came on; check engine, vsc, and trac off. Drove vehicle home (150 miles), the 3 lights remained on as well as loss of cruise control and an intermittent compass display. Took vehicle in for inspection at a local Toyota dealer and was told the skid control unit ecu needed to be replaced. I found out there are other complaints and a technical service bulletin on the 2005 Sienna vehicle stability control (also called electronic stability control) system that has caused injuries. Even more remarkable, my 2005 Sienna has only 62k miles and in that time there has been 2 other incidences with the same symptoms. Why has there not been a recall if there are already injuries in the database??.

9 Traction Control System problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

10 Traction Control System problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/23/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sienna. While driving 20 mph, the contact noticed the traction control engaged causing the anti lock brakes to engage. The contact stopped the vehicle; however, when resuming regular functions he could not drive more than 5 mph without the traction control engaging. A local technician determined that the wheel speed sensor and reluctor rings were rusty which caused the anti lock brakes to activate, the vehicle was repaired at a cost of $87. 00. The manufacturer stated that they where unaware of the issue and a complaint was taken. The failure mileage and current mileages were 68,000. Updated 6/01/09 updated 06/02/09.

11 Traction Control System problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/23/2008

At any speed the traction control/abs system warning light activated causing the antilock breaks to start pumping and making it difficult to steer. This occurred three times during our trip, even at high speeds such as 55 mph, which could have easily caused a collision if someone was driving behind us. It also felt as if it was difficult to steer the vehicle. We brought the minivan to peruzzi Toyota in hatfield PA and explained the problem adding we had paid for an extended warranty, they said it was not covered under warranty. It was caused by battery drainage and that a sensor between the steering wheel and the column had to be recalibrated and we had to purchase a new battery. I find it suspicious and alarming that this safety concern could happen to a vehicle due to low battery - especially since there was no indication of low battery. There were no warning lights and all other vehicle operations functioned properly. Also, no doors were left open and no lights were left on, etc. . . In order to drain the battery. Even if the primary cause was the battery, the breaks should not become activated and the steering difficult while driving down the road at 50 mph with my family in the care. Considering the recent recall of Toyota vehicles, I'm concerned peruzzi Toyota might have given us false information.

12 Traction Control System problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/20/2008

2006 Toyota Sienna le with bz package (vsa) - safety issue (electronics): vehicle stability control system (vsa) is unsafe during road slippery conditions if cruise control is used. The slippery condition could be rainy day or snowing or icy road conditions. The incident occurred several time. The first time I noticed the issue is around September of 2008. It was heavy rain, I was driving on a highway with normal speed. The van was set to cruise at 65 mph. I ran over a small pot of water on the road. One of the tire probably slipped for a brief milli-second. The vsa control kicked in (I can see the vsa light flashes), the van was then running from side to side and the rpm suddenly jump up (violently). The van was difficult to control. I tap the brake to disengage the cruise control. Then the van went back to normal. 2nd incident, about December of 2008, I was driving on the highway with light snow. The van was cruising at 55 mph. The van passed a slippery spot. The vsa kicked in and caused violent left and right movement of the van as well as sudden acceleration. The incident almost caused an accident. Since then, I stopped using cruise control on the rainy or snowy days. But if anyone out there with Toyota minivan, I would like them to know it is a serious potential problem. I took my van to be checked out at the Toyota dealership. They said could not find the problem and it is normal as is.

13 Traction Control System problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/12/2008

Toyota Sienna 2006 braking problem caused self collision. On dry weather. Vehicle lost braking and I hit near by hilly land on turn. Vehicle showed braking problem on wet weather, rain and snow and vehicle looses the braking and related abs and vsc failure. Brake pedal goes down and clicks and brake stops working. My wife no longer trust this van and everybody is afraid to drive with me in it.

14 Traction Control System problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/09/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sienna. While driving 70 mph, the traction control warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle inadvertently pulled to the right. After releasing the accelerator pedal and slowing the vehicle down, the vehicle was able to operate correctly. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

15 Traction Control System problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/03/2004

Vsc engages at highway speeds: vehicle alarm sounds, brakes deploy abruptly and unexpectedly, steering pulls, accelerator goes dead (pulse races, adrenaline courses). First complained to dealer after four incidents in first 20k miles: had online testimonials of yaw sensor, steering angle sensor and ecm replacements as possible remedies; dealer rebuffed my complaints, denying service to sensors, and suggested my tires had 'gone square'. I have lived with the condition for a total of seven years. The car now 'goes off' maybe three times per every 20 miles driven, unpredictably and always shockingly. My family refuses to ride in the car. I cannot sell it in good conscience, as the defects cannot be confirmed by the dealer (and apparently therefore do not exist), so there is no way for it to be 'made safe' for a succeeding owner. Its remaining $10k+ equity has been nullified by this defect.
