I have a 1996 Toyota T100 that I bought from a local Toyota dealership wit 95,000 miles. Now at 135,000 miles , the frame is dangerously rusted. I took it to the dealership where I purchased it , and was told by the service manager to"prepare it for burial" this vehicle still runs fine, and I can't afford to buy another and simply junk this one there has been a recall and generous buyback on tacomas of the same years for the same problem, and I just found out they are doing the same on some later model tundras why has there been no similar action on T100s.

I took my 1997 T100 Toyota truck to uniontown Toyota dealer for a neutral switch repair which cost $360. At that time I was advised by the service manager not to drive the vehicle due to the current problem that Toyota is having with frame deterioration. Toyota currently has a recall on years back up to1995. This deterioration in my 1997 is obviously the same issue they are having and are honoring in the previous years' models. The frame needs to be replaced according to the service manager at the above dealership. My vehicle has been in my garage since this repair July 10th, this is a garage kept vehicle- it is clearly defected and should be honored by Toyota as they are honoring past year identical issue. After discussing this issue with Toyota representatives at their main headquarters in California, they refused to fix the problem stating that our 1997 truck was not recalled, even though their service representatives have stated that it clearly was the same problem.
I own a 1996 Toyota T100 4wd truck. The truck has 130k miles and runs excellent and has very little body rust. However, it will not pass inspection because of extensive frame corrosion and extreme corrosion to the lower control arms and cab mounts in the form of rust. There are numerous holes in the frame and lower control arms and the rust chips fall off in large chunks.
1996 Toyota T100 with 96000 miles has severe frame rot. Right rear support for the cab has rusted through and the left rear support is almost rotted through and has a hole in the frame rail.
Our 1997 Toyota T100 extended cab is falling apart with rust. The bumper pulled completely off and the bed moves as if it will break away from the cab. The side steps (you step on to climb up into the truck) have rusted and broken off as well). We have to drive it, but fear a tragic accident will occur. This truck has far more rust than even the recalled tacomas we saw bought back by Toyota. We would like Toyota to recall and buy back the T100s as well.
The contact owns a 1996 Toyota T100. The contact stated that the vehicle was being service for a routine oil change when the contact was advised by the technician that the cab mount and axle were severely rusted. The technician advised that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 02/07/11.
I am aware of a problem Toyota had with the tacoma model years 1995 through 2000 with weak frames. My question is could the T100 be affected as well? I have a 1996 T100 which recently had a rear body mount disintegrate. As my mechanic was fixing the problem, he was grasping the frame and actually put a 3" to 4" hole in the frame with just his fingers. He had to weld a patch over the hole and commented that for only 12 years old, the frame looked terrible. He did not want to try any other parts of the frame for fear that he would cause more holes. I was wondering if this was happening to other owners of T100s in the same time frame as the tacoma recall. Could this frame fail while driving causing a potential accident?.
Sudden break in clutch support bracket. Caused vehicle to suddenly move without ability to control. The breakage of this bracket was caused by a design defect, and not by use or lack of maintainance. Dealer's service manager admitted that this bracket never should have broken. Have detailed photos and the original broken part. The new part has been redesigned, but dealer says manufacturer has told them nothing about any ongoing problems.
