My Toyota truck frame is rusted with big holes and could break in two at any time.
- 2001 Toyota Tacoma new replacement frame rusted, it is available for inspection. - the frame is rusted to the point you can push your finger through it, failure concern while driving. -the local Toyota dealership and corporate office, states the vehicle is not covered in any way. - at this time the vehicle has not been inspected due to dealership stating there are no recalls on the second frame that was installed in the 2001 Toyota Tacoma for the original rusting problem. This vehicle likely will not pass state inspection. - there are no warning devices for this problem. The rust/corrosion was located during an oil change.
My frame is completely rusted and all the capomintes are also. I cant change anything put because of it. My leaf springs are shot where they are mounted to the frame. Is weaking which is moving my back axle off balance. My front ailment is completely off. I and dreak anything lose to fix the issue's. It feels like they completely forgot to spray my frame on my truck.
I'm writing you because I had my 2001 Tacoma inspected for the frame rust recall in 2010. At that time I was told that my truck would be sprayed with an inhibitor to prevent rust. The vehicle frame has since rusted and is unsafe to drive. The spray inhibitor obviously did not work or was applied incorrectly. The vehicle started showing these signs while drivinh.
The truck was broken by the half where the loading part begins.
2001 Tacoma. The 15 year extended warranty is not enough; it should be a mandatory recall/inspection with no time limitations. Frames are visibly rusting through after the warranty expires, but the frames are defective prior to that and owners don't realize it because no recall was ever issued and any visible inspection doesn't reveal the problem. I know now that my frame was defective during the warranty period but it didn't become visible until after 16 years. Toyota has tried to sweep this under the rug by doing as little as possible to ease the judicial system. How many people are driving on life-threatening frames that don't even realize it because the frame is something an average person doesn't tend to check? an official recall notice would get those trucks in the shop for inspection.
I noticed my 2001 Toyota Tacoma making odd noises while driving. I decided to have my mechanic take a look at it from the bottom of truck: he saw and took pictures of the observable extensive rusted/corrosion and perforated areas on the frame/chassis of the truck and said it was a good idea to take it to dealership since there has been a settlement lawsuit for defects on Toyota Tacoma's that where not treated well enough with the rust inhibitor spray. I took my Tacoma to the dealership where I purchased it originally and they said exactly what my mechanic had already told me about the rusted and perforated areas on the frame/chassis and stated that the chassis/frame has an advanced corrosion/ rust damages to the point of the frame being fractured or broken in half if the problem continues, whereas it's very dangerous to continue driving the truck. I was never notified of this manufacturer defect on the rusty frames and now am considering further into hiring an attorney regarding my 2001 Toyota Tacoma. This is a serious safety hazard for me and my loved ones and I beleive it's inconsiderate and shaming on Toyota to not have one single recall information on 2001 Toyota Tacomas. I hope I can get answers soon in regards to this problem and will due what's necessary to have Toyota respond to my issue. I have already called them 4months ago and they stated I had to first file this complaint on this website in order to proceed to the next steps.
Rear frame is rusted out and braking into pieces. I called Toyota and there was a recall for the rusted parts. They told me the recall has expired and they will not honor it.
After a muffler shop pointed out serious holes in the frame of my 2001 Toyota Tacoma (with 174,000 miles), I contacted kings Toyota and Toyota manufacturing. They said the truck was out of warranty. I took it to hamilton body shop and they said there was a recall for the life of the truck. I contacted performance Toyota with my VIN # and they said there was no recall in their data bank. I have been told the truck is unsafe to drive. I have had the truck frame inspected at kings Toyota twice in the past several years and they said the frame was ok at that time. My truck is in mechanically good condition, body looks fine too. Would love to continue to drive it several more years. Would appreciate help determining if there is, in fact , a recall and how do I go about getting the information I need to get this frame repaired.
The frame rusted out with only 150,000 miles, informed vehicle needs to be junked or have frame replaced. This vehicle is unsafe to drive.
2001 Tacoma, took in for an oil change and they couldn't lift the truck. The frame was rusted through on both sides. Going on line it appears this is a common problem with Toyota Tacoma's. Toyota needs to address this. Fortunately I was not in an accident or towing anything as the frame is totally gone and unsafe to drive. Doesn't look like anyone is having any luck with Toyota addressing the problem. Sad that someone may have to die in an accident before they will step up.
Frame recall: when I received notice of this recall I took it to a dealer in slc, ut and had it checked on 9/22/08. I was informed that it was fine and they didn't do anything to it. Now 8 years later, my truck has turned into a safety hazard because the frame is so rusted out, I can't even get my brake line that recently broke repaired. I have been told that this particular recall expired in 2014. I don't understand how a recall can expire. Nor do I understand that if my frame was fine in 2008, how it could have rusted away to this extent so quickly. The state of the current rust was pointed out to me in 2016. I understand that I have been driving the truck for 16 years; however, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the engine and I had hoped to drive it till the engine died. Please explain to me how this recall could expire when it did and why Toyota won't accept any responsibility for replacing the frame.
2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 bought new and has 186,000 miles and the frame is almost broke completely into. I have never received any recall on my vehicle. Toyota can say what they want about sending me one but I have never received one. So I must say that we have purchased approximately 4 or 5 new ones and have never experienced anything like this. We have owned probably 9 or 10 used ones. I'm trying to get some help on getting this resolved. I really don't know what to do because Toyota promises to stand behind their word, so why can I not get any help. What's going to happen when I am driving down the road and it breaks completely into and causes me to get hurt or maybe killed or hurt someone or causing death to someone. Then what are you going to think about that. I can't work anymore and I can't afford to get this fixed, and I am going to let everyone know exactly how good Toyotas have become. Would you want to buy this vehicle, no absolutely not. By looking at this truck you would never expect anything to be wrong with it. I am truly expecting some help with this matter. Thank you.
Last month while driving my Toyota Tacoma a loud bang was heard from under the truck. To my dismay, the right rear shock mount pulled free from the frame due to rust that was to have be corrected at my dealership under the Toyota truck frame recall. I brought it to my dealership and they said it was Toyota's choice to either undercoat or replace the frame. My vehicle was undercoated. Unfortunately I now have an unsafe, non-driveable and unsalable vehicle. Toyota should not be permitted to pick and choose which vehicles they repair correctly and which they coverup with undercoating. I appeal to the NHTSA to look into this matter as rust is blistering out from multiple areas under the undercoating. Please help!.
My Tacoma has been in a couple times for timing belt replacement and has been inspected for rust but nothing was ever done or said about it needing anything done. While driving down the street I noticed that when I slowed down my lifted and when I accelerated my bed lowered. I pulled off to find that my frames has rusted apart in front of rear leaf spring. Toyota corporate was called and they said nothing can be done?.
I am unsure when this had happened but the frame on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma is corroded and broken into 2 pieces in 2 different areas. The place where it is broken is not corroded but just broke. Would like to know if this truck is under a safety issue that Toyota should be responsible for or if it is just an expensive paper weight.
I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma and the frame is broken in two on the passenger side of the truck and rusted in two on the other side of the truck. The truck is very unsafe to drive and I am learning there was a recall on these trucks for faulty frames. I have also learned that they stopped the recall in 2012 before I owned the truck. How is this going to help me if I bought the truck after the recall is over but the issue just happened? I paid too much for this truck to only get to use it for a short amount of time before the frame fell apart. This is a recall that should never be discontinued, if I was not told of this problem by my mechanic something bad could have happened to my family while driving down the road. I am unsure how the frame broke but I was told about it after I took it to a mechanic to have the brakes worked on. The spot that is broken on the passenger side is not even rusty just broke like it was a weak frame. My mechanic informed me to not even drive it home so I had to have it towed home on a flatbed.
2001 Toyota Tacoma was recalled in 2011 due to rust/corrosion of the vehicle frame. We promptly followed all recall instructions and took the vehicle to a Toyota service center in response to the recall. Toyota treated the frame with a solution and we were advised the the issue was resolved. The vehicle frame recently collapsed / broke in two. I notified Toyota of the issue and was assigned a case #1606222761. I was notified today by Toyota and they advised that the frame warranty had been extended but that the warranty expired 11/7/2015. They advised that there is no appeal process and no solution. The vehicle is not driveable although the vehicle is is perfect running order and in very good condition (other than a broken frame). The broken frame was not a result of abuse or a specific moment in time - it just collapsed due to corrosion - the very issue of the 2011 recall that we were told had been resolved.
Toyota Tacoma 2001 has severe frame and suspension corrosion. The vehicle was taken to Toyota dealership, and without even inspecting the truck, I was advised to contact Toyota corp office, which I have not done yet. But will do today. I took it to my mechanic to get his opinion. . . He advised that it was severe and would not pass any inspection.
While driving the truck we heard a rubbing and clanking noise. The rear shock absorber support ,on the passenger side, completely rusted away along with the frame and is now resting against the bottom of the truck bed. We took the vehicle to a Toyota dealer who informed us that the entire frame is perforated with holes, the frame on the drivers front is extremely damaged and the vehicle is not safe to drive. We contacted Toyota and were told they will do nothing because the frame is out of warranty by 46 days.
Rust seems to be coming off by the handfuls and pieces thick enough that I am concerned. I looked under my truck and among other things, metal lines (brake, steering, not sure), the gas tank, and steering linkage became my biggest concern. By the thickness of rust I have gotten from my vehicle I am certain it is not surface rust. How much will something rust before it becomes a failure, especially with a line under pressure such as brake lines? the last time I filled up I noticed gas leaking on the concrete. I am not sure if it is coming from the tank itself or not.
I recently purchased a used 2001 Toyota Tacoma and noticed it needed to go in for a recall for the spare tire being in need of remounting. I noticed the frame rust was bad. As in fist size holes all down the frame. I contacted the dealership about the recall and mentioned the frame rust and the recall on the frames. I was informed that they wouldnt do anything about the rust. Im now stuck with a very unsafe truck for me and my children to be in and a company that flat out made a mistake and wont own up to it. I will upload detailed photos of the damage later on.
Inspection failed. Told frame rusted badly and unsafe to drive. Contacted Toyota dealer and they won't do anything.
While I was driving the passenger side wheel completely buckled under the truck. Luckily, I was only driving 15 mph. Had this broken while I was on the interstate, I would have been injured or injured someone else. As a result, the mechanic found that both ball joints were bad so both were replaced. The frame is completely rusted out and the spare tire cannot be removed. No notice was ever given to us or the previous owner by Toyota, regarding the problems stated above.
My son was driving north on i45 from huntsville, TX to fort worth, at approximately 11:30 pm. He was drving approximately 70-75 mph near mm159 when he heard a loud thud noise come from under his truck. He immediately observed flames coming from the rear of the truck and immediately pulled off the road and stopped. The flames engulfed the rear of the truck and under the cab of the truck. He exited the vehicle and sustained a burn to the lower portion of his left leg. Seconds after he exited the vehicle, the entire truck was engulfed in flames. A texas state trooper was passing shortly after my son exited the vehicle and requested assistance from the fire department and paramedics. (photos taken).
Was driving about 45 mph - hit a pothole & the frame broke on both sides , behind the cab !!! almost an accident frame was rotted out from the inside !!!! but I wasn,t on interstate at the time I called Toyota u. S. A. ----they said -not their problem !!! I would not want someone driving on congested freeway at a high rate of speed & this happened someone could be killed !!!!!.
I bought this truck in June 2014 from a private dealership in virginia, then moved from maryland to seattle. I had it inspected in maryland, it passed, but I discovered that the frame was rusted completely through- the leaf springs are not even attached, making it unsafe to drive. I contacted Toyota, and the previous owner had the rust treatment applied in 2011, but the extended warranty expired in 2013, so they are refusing to help. I have only had this truck 9 months and it is basically worthless and dangerous.
The frame of the truck is rusted away. There is a re-call for repairing the tire mount under the truck. Toyota states they can not fix because of the rust. My case with them is 1411181384. The body and motor are excellent.
The frame on my Toyota Tacoma 2001 truck is so rusted out that it is not inspect-able. The local Toyota dealership will do nothing for me. . . . I have contacted Toyota customer service. . . Waiting for a call back. . . Toyota needs to do something to fix the problem. . . . Nhtsa. . . Please help!!.
Brought vehicle to dealer for recall notice on spare tire mount. Later that day, dealer called and said they could not put vehicle on lift to check the mount, as frame was so rusted they feared it would break. I was informed at this time that there had been an earlier recall regarding this issue, but that it had been discontinued. I told the dealer I never received a recall for frame corrosion. I called Toyota and was told that the recall had been extended but was no longer active, and that since the vehicle was not brought in while the recall was active, the 15 year warranty on the frame was void. Consequently, all costs to repair would be totally out of pocket. Dealer then told me that in the present condition, the trade-in value of the vehicle was now $200-$300 instead of anywhere near the book value of this model ($6000-$7000).
Takata recall oct. 2014 our truck wouldn't pass inspection because frame rusted out. The spare tire fell off on the highway, so we knew we had a problem. We called Toyota and they said they couldn't do anything because recall ended and that we had been sent a paper in 2010( the year we moved) they told us they couldn't do anything about the spare tire because we had to still have the tire. So we had to find some to weld and do the work ourselves to get it inspected.
I took the vehicle in for routine maintenance and was alerted to the frame corrosion. I can actually push my finger through the rust and frame, holes are visible in the frame. The truck is unsafe to drive and I fear of safety for my family. I contacted Toyota and they advised me that the voluntary buyback program for fixing this was expired. I am now left with an immaculately clean car in pristine shape that cannot be driven and I am leery of even selling to someone else regardless of their knowledge of the frame. Reports of this problem are popping up all over and it needs to be dealt with as a serious matter and subject to safety recall. Lesser issues have had recalls and it has been left up to Toyota to provide voluntary buyback programs instead of being mandated for public safety.
Following routine service inspection on 4/2/2014, significant perforation of my 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 truck frame was identified, due to conditions consistent with rusting. According to a 2012 Toyota dealership diagnostic, no indication of rust was noted during the dealership service inspection. Also, no hard copy documentation has been provided by Toyota corporation regarding an alleged voluntary recall campaign to address corrosion of frame. According to the Toyota corporation case worker assigned, he was unable to provide any hard copy documentation of said voluntary recall campaign notice regarding corrosion of truck frame; it should be noted that the case worker did say he could provide 'verbal' confirmation that notification was sent to my residence at the time. At this time, I am currently considering legal action, pending further review of case.
My frame is rotted out and the bed is up against the cab. Can not drive it now. Haven't drove it since October 2013 due to brain cancer.
We purchased a 2001 Toyota Tacoma new in late 2000. My husband recently realized the frame is almost rusted through on the rear of the vehicle near the gas tank. Needless to say, it isn't safe to drive the vehicle until/if it can be fixed. We have viewed and read up on numerous complaints from other Tacoma owners and have seen some recalls or notifications to select Tacoma owners but not in the state we reside in-mo. We ran into a similar issue with another non-Toyota vehicle which only covered hot-weather states. We live in missouri. . . . We have experienced extreme heat and cold during the last few years. It's unreasonable to me that the auto dealers can exclude certain states when it is highly likely customers in those excluded states could experience the same issue. If it's determined to be the same issue owners in other states are facing, why not agree to cover the repair??? we plan to do some investigating and calling of our own to see if Toyota is going to pay for the repair or at least offer us a reasonable buy back option. We are Toyota owners and plan to stay that way depending on how this all turns out. We've always urged others to buy Toyota vehicles due to their longevity and reliability. . . . I hope we're not going to be proven wrong on this one.
