general problems of the 2001 Toyota Tacoma - part 2

Bought my Toyota Tacoma about a year an a half ago. Its a 2001 v6 extra cab 4x4. Brought it to the Toyota deal on rt 37 east in toms river n. J and ask them to inspect the frame. They said it was in good condition. Just the other day I brought it in to a garage in town for an oil change and the check engine light was on. Come to find out the fuel tank is rusting and has a hole in it. Also the frame is severally rusted, the cross bar that holds the fuel tank is crumbling along with the rest of the frame. This whole rusting frame issue needs to be addressed noy only is my family and my life in danger but so are the other drivers around me.

Excessive rust everywhere on the underside of the vehicle!!.

I purchased the best truck I could ever wish for, 2001 Toyota Tacoma; it’s an xtra cab with trd with the sr5. Today at 113500 miles it still looks and runs showroom new. But it has the rust on the frame and bad too. Toyota refuses to help in any way. In 2012 the frame was perfect, now it is almost eaten through. I love this truck but it is unsafe to drive and I am very displeased with how they are handling the situation. At 113500 miles I opt to go with Toyota compared to Chevrolet because Toyota had a wonderful reputation on reliable vehicles and I was sold on that. When the recall was sent out, I was living in virginia and battling cancer so I missed the recall. I believe Toyota should warrant their product or close down their plants if they won’t honor the issues at hand. I want a new frame or at least another truck with my engine and transmission, my baby is gorgeous. I am now on a fixed income with blood clots in my lungs due to the cancer I need my truck.

I was told that there was a recall on my vehicle, and when I notified Toyota they indicated that they would no longer honor the recall, unless I had gone in for some kind of underlayment. I never was notified of this, and since the vehicle will be considered unsafe I feel that they toyta should takecare of this issue. Please advise if there is a limitation on safety hazards for vehicles.

Truck recall due to frame rust. Toyota was called, they said they mailed a recall letter but I didn't get the notice. They also said it was outside the time limit to have any repairs done and that they wouldn't honor the recall on my truck.

Frame recall. Toyota claims that they sent a recall notice which I never got. When called they said that the time period to have repairs done was expired.

The engine reved up as if the accelerator was stuck pressed down. There was no floor mat in the way. I had to put the truck into neutral and pull over. I turned off the engine. When I turned the engine back on, the rpms were still extremely high, so I had to turn it off and let it sit for over 5 minutes. This has happened 6 times since then. I have taken the vehicle into a mechanic who can not get it to repeat for him. This is very scary. The good thing is that this is a standard transmission, so neutral is easy. It is very unsafe on the highway when it happens.

There was a recall on Toyota Tacoma trucks regarding frame rust for years 1996 to 2004 I took the truck into marion Toyota for inspection and they said that the frame was ok and they sprayed it with a rust coating compound. When I got home I inspected the work and found that they sprayed over a significant amount of mud that was on the frame (see pictures) I took the truck back. Marion Toyota called a representative from chicago. They sort of "cleaned" off the mud and resprayed the frame. There was still mud underneath the spray. They refused to do anything else with the truck and told me that it did not qualify for any recall replacement. I have tried several times to bring it to the attention of Toyota but to no avail. Within the last year the spare tire fell off while driving on the road. The front bumper just fell off. The frame is flaking rust and corroding at joints. Marion Toyota basically just sprayed over mud to seal the frame.
