Nhtsa recall number: opens new window takes away from VIN lookup section> 14v604 recall date: September 29, 2014 manufacturer recall number: e02 summary: the subject vehicles? rear suspension system contains leaf springs that are constructed of either three or four leaves. There is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion. If this occurs and the vehicle continues to be operated, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank. Safety risk: if the broken leaf contacts the fuel tank repeatedly, it could puncture the tank and cause a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, this could result in a fire. Remedy: Toyota will replace the leaf springs with newly designed ones. Recall status: recall incomplete manufacturer notes:.

I received a notice of recall over a year ago, but only got the actual recall notice about a month ago. I scheduled an appointment to have the rear leaf springs replaced at Toyota of poway. When I arrived for the appointment I was told they did not have the recall parts! I called the Toyota customer experience line and despite what the recall letter said, I was told that the dealership would not have the parts and that the dealership would only do an inspection first. I am complaining because of the in accurate instructions in the recall letter and because the local dealership apparently has no idea how to remedy the issue.

3 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Safety recall e02- rear leaf springs. Customer: loren williams took car to Toyota richardson in richardson TX for brake and recall repair in June 2016. They gladly fixed the breaks for $600 bucks, but had to order parts for the recall and call me when ready. Left a bad review on their requested customer survey because it felt like a "bait and switch" . Was called by svc dept manager. He assured me that they would order the parts and call me. I never got the call. I called them on March 2, 2017 to find the status of parts, and no parts were ordered. No guarantee that they will honor the safety recall. I have attached a copy of the 1st page of the invoice documenting that the truck was delivered for the repairs that I have mentioned above.

4 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2016

Lack of alignment during Toyota safety recall e02 / NHTSA recall id 14v 604 I am concerned with the lack of vehicle alignment as an included part of e02 post replacement of the rear spring packs. When the rear springs are removed from the vehicle, the rear axle often shifts such that is it no longer in the same position as it was previously installed. Thus the vehicle is no longer properly aligned, as front toe is set based on the thrust angle of the rear axle. The thrust angle is derivative of the alignment of the axle relative to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, and creates a moment about the yaw axis of the vehicle. Re-alignment of the front of the vehicle provides corrective measure by setting front wheel toe to account for the position of the rear axle, thus ensuring the vehicle tracks correctly and is stable during dynamic maneuvers. When the Tacoma first entered the servicing dealer it was confirmed to be correctly aligned. However, the pre-alignment numbers on the hunter expressalign sheet show that the rear axle position after performing e02 has shifted -0. 15° [iso] about its vertical axis relative to the position prior to rear spring replacement. Failure to have the Tacoma realigned would have resulted in the need to counter-steer the vehicle to maintain a straight trajectory during normal operation. It is unacceptable that the customer should be expected to bear the burden of cost for the alignment, when it is necessitated by the corrective actions prescribed by Toyota during e02. Failure to re-align vehicles becomes a safety concern, namely due to uneven tire wear and the potential for instability of the vehicle due to misaligned axles causing the vehicle to increase tendencies to over-steer. I am disappointed in Toyota's apparent disregard for owner safety and feel this is an issue that should be addressed with urgency.

5 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2016

I received the recall notice for this vehicle. I took the vehicle in for repair. The dealer said I had the proper springs on the vehicle and no repair was needed. I find this hard o believe since rear leafspring broke on this vehicle when it was approx. 2 yrs. Old. How then could it have the proper springs?.

6 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2016

Received letter from Toyota 2 years ago about leaf spring recall. At this point my leaf springs have weakened to the point of not being able to haul anything in the bed. Even driving down the interstate every bump or dip I hit in the road my truck now bottoms out. I contacted Toyota on 1/18/2016 with a complaint about the weakened state of the springs and my concern that they may break at anytime and also the fact of what else will be weakened, wore out or broke by the time the recall is ready. I received an email several days later stating that the recall was not ready and apologized for my inconvenience and frustrations. I believe they have had ample enough time to manufacture the parts and start bringing them in for repair. I was told the recall would be ready in early 2016. We are now into March and I cannot go any longer with the weakened state of the springs. I have asked the dealers and they cannot even tell me any information on this problem. I have already filed a complaint with Toyota about this issue and it is under file #1601210129. This has been an issue with my truck around the 50,000 mile mark and I have just chalked it up as parts becoming weak and wore out over time. I had plans to add a leaf to the rear suspension to bring the ride back to were it once was. Since the recall has came out I gave up that idea and have been waiting impatiently since. Like I said something needs to be done they have had ample enough time to correct this issue.

7 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2016

My 2009 Toyota Tacoma has been under recall for the rear leaf springs since 2014. I have called the dealership monthly to find out if/when the repairs are going to begin! there is still no resolution to this safety issue on this vehicle! this is unacceptable!.

8 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2015

Toyota is not addressing the Tacoma rear leaf spring safety recall in a reasonable time. I was notified of the leaf spring recall in the fall of 2014. In March of 2015 I took my 2009 Tacoma to the dealer to investigate excessive noise coming from the rear of the truck. Dealer service department determined that one of the leaf springs had fractured and needed to be replaced per the safety recall. Dealer ordered the replacement springs but was unable to provide a time when they would be available so the repair could be completed. After nearly a month, still waiting for parts. Calls to both the dealer and Toyota corporate to find out when the parts would be available have been fruitless. Both state that the replacement leaf springs are unavailable and will not provide a date when they will be available. Given the length of time that Toyota has known about this safety issue, I find that this is lack of repair parts and addressing this safety issue is unacceptable especially for owners such as myself who are known to have fractured leaf springs. Recommend that NHTSA investigate with Toyota as to why this safety recall is not being addressed in a prompt manner.

9 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

In September 2014 a recall was announced on my style 2009 Toyota Tacoma pick up because the rear leaf springs could corrode and break. On November 14, 2014, I received a recall notice letter from Toyota that my vehicle was being recalled due to this issue. I have contacted Toyota manufacturing company on numerous occasions only to be told "we are working on it" (replacing the springs). That is the only answer I have ever received. Even their website states "we are working on it". I want to know when these springs will be replaced on my vehicle!!!.

10 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2014

Nhtsa recall number: opens new window takes away from VIN lookup section> 14v604 recall date: September 29, 2014 manufacturer recall number: e02 this recall has been ongoing since 9/2014 and nothing has been done. When are you going to force Toyota to do something about this dangerous condition? supposedly they are working on a solution, but, when you live in the west and rely on your vehicle for firewood gathering, etc. . . Traveling down rough country dirt roads, then you need to be sure your vehicle is going to stand up to the test of living in the west. Are you at the NHTSA going to do anything about forcing Toyota to take action on their vehicles, or sit around and do nothing? it has now been over 2 years since this recall was started and still nothing is being done about it. Please respond to my questions and let me know what you plan on doing!!!!!! I did receive a 2nd notice regarding the recall from Toyota, saying they would have the remedy in place in the early part of 2016, but now it is almost September (2 years) and still nothing is done about the rear leaf springs. Please advise!!!!!!.

11 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2014

No accident or breakage of rear leaf springs, but I was notified in 2014 of the recall notice and it is now 11/2015 and their is still no remedy! this is too long a period for a recall to be on hold, when I haul firewood, a boat, items to the landfill and grandkids and have to worry about a leaf spring breaking and causing an accident or injury to my family. Toyota makes lots of money off of their vehicles and this should be top priority on their list and you can bet it will be the last Toyota I buy. I'll go back to buying american made vehicles instead of imports! I guess that's what I get for buying a Toyota! I do have a case # 1509 from Toyota, but they still will not prepare a remedy, and I think this is bs. . . You took my money for the truck, now fix it in a timely manner and quit screwing us around. I can see there are lots of unhappy owners with this same issue from the complaints.

13 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2014

8/4/14 the left rear spring broke severing the brake line, leaving her with no ability to stop the truck. 7/12/13 the right rear spring was found to be broken. Both the Toyota dealer and the shop that fixed the springs told me that this was very common in these trucks. Had my daughter lost her brakes ten minutes earlier, she would have been on the interstate and the results could have been tragic. . Updated 08-20-14 . Updated 08/27/2014.

14 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2014

I heard a rattling noise from the right rear of the truck while drivng on a bumpy side road. I investigated and discovered the bottom leaf spring had broken in half. Doing some online research I discovered that this is a very common problem with Tacoma's. I contacted the dealer and it is not a covered item (no tbs) and it would cost over $1800. I went to my local mechanic which saved me $700. During the repair it was discovered that both right and left were broken. My mechanic informed me that this is a very common problem; that Toyota lengthened the springs to soften the ride, as a result compromised the strength. The leaf springs have always squeeked just by getting in and out of the truck. There is a sticker on the door frame stating that the load rating has been reduced by 290 lbs for this vehicle, I wondered why now I know, cheap springs!.

15 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

After hearing clunking noises in the rear end of the truck, an inspection revealed broken rear leaf springs. The springs were replaced by a local mechanic at a cost of nearly $1100. I consider the failure of the springs to be premature as I do not use the truck for heavy hauling. Research reveals that this is a common problem with this model truck.

16 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2013

2005-2011 Toyota Tacoma rear leaf spring recall - NHTSA recall - 14v-604. Purchased replacement springs and paid dealership to install in Aug. 2013 because my vehicle was out of warranty and springs broken. When recall announced in 2016, I requested reimbursement for parts & installation from Toyota motor sales. I have submitted over 10 responses with requested documentation and Toyota motor sales refuses to reimburse stating they need documentation from the dealership which has been provided more than once. I filed a bbb complaint and the dealership's response was to contact the manufacturer.

17 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2013

The rear leaf springs broke on the Tacoma, I had to pay for new, and was told they intend to replace the remaining when "they come in. " for 2 years I have been waiting for the springs "to come in". They will supposedly reimburse me for the broken side ($300. 00), when the new "come in". Really? 2 years? whats going on?.

18 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2012

I began to drive my vehicle today and heard a strange clanking noise. I pulled over and upon inspection I found that one of the right rear leaf springs was broken. I have never had a load in the bed of the truck over 500lbs. I see that prior model year Tacomas had a recall for this problem. The truck had the same part but the recall does not extend to 2009.

19 Rear Suspension Springs problem
