1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2024

The transmission cooling line in my 2019 Toyota Tacoma was never installed by an authorized repair shop following an accident. This critical component failure led to the transmission failing just 1. 5 hours after I retrieved the vehicle from the shop. My safety was compromised, as the failure occurred while driving at highway speeds, without any warning lights or messages indicating an issue. The failure has been confirmed by the dealership (motorworld Toyota) currently inspecting my vehicle. The shop responsible for the initial repairs has taken liability for missing the installation of the transmission cooling line. My insurance company (geico) has been involved but is delaying total loss consideration. No warning lamps or messages appeared before or after the transmission failure, which is highly suspicious. This negligence has caused severe damage to a vital component of my vehicle, and I question the overall integrity of the repairs.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2023

The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, he observed that the vehicle was idling abnormally rough. After shifting into driving and releasing the brake pedal with his foot off of the accelerator pedal, the vehicle briefly independently accelerated. Upon reaching an undisclosed speed, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The contact also stated that the failure first began after the dealer replaced the high-pressure fuel pump. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was unknown.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2023

About 70,000 miles, bearings on the idler pulley and tensioner on serpentine belt failed. These have been replaced. About 75,000 miles, the rack and pinion began leaking from one end. I'm watching power steering fluid levels and expect to replace the rack and pinion soon. Note: I'm being told the design of this vehicle requires that the engine be partially pulled to replace the rack and pinion.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2023

This 2019 truck feels like it just doesn’t want to go. It struggles to go up any hill no matter how small. The engine jumps feels like it’s got a heart beat while riding. The gas mileage is horrendous and awful the 2015 was all around a better truck I read somewhere that Toyota recalled a bunch of 2019 trucks for a gas line rip was causing fires and whatever else. I thought for sure it had to be my trucks issue bc that would absolutely explain why it’s running so weird and ragged. The poor thing … I’m very worried about it.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2023

The engine part “coolant bypass joint” failed, started leaking coolant at 44k miles, because it was made of inferior plastic material, unlike the same part used in the same 3. 5l v6 engines in the Lexus vehicles, which are made of aluminum. This is a widespread failure since 2016 model years, and Toyota refused change the design or manufacturing material of the part, or to repair it under warranty. The part number for this failed part is 16356-31051.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2023

Occasionally, my Tacoma jerk at lower speeds of 20 to 5 mph. Also, random I hear a click sound on brake.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2022

A full replacement of the cylinder 1 head and valves at only 60,000 miles, repair estimate of $8000.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2022

Took my car for regular maintenance and they did tire rotation and etc after that the car was driving kind of off now its just acting up started shaking and jerks like shutters and stuff feels vrry unsafe.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

Truck starting lunge forward while in highway going speed limit almost like it's slipping gears.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2021

Noticeable vibration when slowing down. It happens between 40mph to 0 mph. Slight vibration while accelerating from a stop to around 45mph. Engine also surges, and has trouble finding the correct gear while accelerating or decelerating. When put in neutral while slowing down, the vibration is not felt at all. Took the truck to the dealership, explained the issues. Was told nothing was mechanically wrong. They rotated my tires and did a front end alignment. The truck has just over 12k on it ! this is a disaster in the making.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2021

Transmission shifts when it should not shift! it also jerks when accelerating and maintaining speeds. While in cruse control the truck drops in 20mph in speed really concerning when it would cause a bad wreck while it drops it constantly still jerks and it also floors the truck to get back up to the preselected speed and transmission jerks and studders and drops and speeds back up and so it sounds like it could blow up from it flooring and dropping in speed and flooring it in cruse control this needs fixed and worked out! transmission shouldn’t be jerking or hunting for gears.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2020

My vehicle (VIN# 3tmdz5bn7km074092) has not had safety recall addressed by my local dealership. The recall was initiated on 28 October 2020. The local dealership has had more than a month to make a plan to fix the problem and has responded to my request by stating that parts are not yet available and feel I should continue to operate my vehicle in its current state.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2020

Acceleration is often hesitant and jerky. When at a complete stop, turning or driving , I will push the gas to accelerate but the truck takes about 2 seconds to finally move. The dealership stated it was the traction control because I turn too fast. When asked about why it hesitates to accelerate when at a stop or when I'm driving straight, they stated they didn't know but it wasn't an issue since their mechanicals couldn't replicate the problem. I don't feel confident or safe in this truck.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2019

Driving to the ups brake malfunction light came, engine light came on, traction control off light on, vehicle lost power, able to only move 1 mile an hour, brake malfunction light also said brake override, advise bring to dealer . Luckily I was a hundred feet away from the Toyota dealer when this happened living in a small town. Turn on my hazard lights and drove into Toyota dealership.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

A couple times over the last several months, I've had problems with rpms surging (between 800 & 1200) shortly after starting the truck when the vehicle is cold; both while idling in park and shortly after placing the vehicle into d or r. This has resulted in unintended vehicle movement when it started surging after the truck was put into drive. This has happened when pulling out of my driveway on cold mornings or leaving an appointment or work after the truck had sat & cooled. The rpm surge wasn't an issue while it was simply idling. However, it has occasionally started surging after I placed the vehicle into drive. I placed the vehicle into drive, let off the gas but had not yet (or just starting to) pressed on the gas pedal. The surging was powerful enough to cause the vehicle to lurch forward significantly which is potentially very dangerous. In one instance I had driven maybe 100 yards and pulled up to a stop. As I was just letting off the brake to enter traffic and not yet pressed on the gas pedal it started surging and jerked forward. I had to slam on the brakes to prevent hitting other vehicles. This lasted for a minute or so and forced me to stay on the brake and block traffic until the surging stopped. This problem has occurred only a couple of times but is a huge safety risk to myself and others due to the unintended acceleration/vehicle movement when the rpm's surged while the powertrain was engaged. Toyota has acknowledged the surging and has stated there is no repair at this time. However, Toyota has also tried to tell me that it is operating as 'normal'. I have taken the truck to the shop several times and they have stated that they have seen the surging but because they have not experienced the surging when the powertrain is engaged (it happens only occasionally) the vehicle is operating normally. This is not normal or safe.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2019

I took my 2019 Tacoma sr5 to headquater Toyota miami today. I told them that my truck vibrate when braking between 25 to 15 mph. They inspected my truck and told me they felt the vibration so they called the corporate and the mechanic was told to test drive a similar truck. The mechanic told me that it does the same thing and to wait for a maybe recall. Next week I'm taking my truck to another dealer.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2019

2019 Tacoma sport, transmission judder, vibrate on slowing down and light acceleration on step incline on town or highway Toyota dealer, Toyota of olympia in washington says it's normal that works as designed. This can't be normal getting worse the more I drive only 3300 miles pls help with this problem more people are complaining about this issue. Thank you.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

Having issue with the truck 'lurching and jerking" with rpms fluctuationing between 500 and 1000. This happens primarily in reverse with your foot on the brake with steady prussure. I had an uncomfortable incident with a woman in the supermarket parking lot. She saw that I had stopped to let her pass behind me when the truck took a short hop backwards. She was not happy. She took my plate # and said that she was going to file a complaint with the local pd . I have taken the truck to the local dealer and the old standard answer, " its normal". The tech that evaluated my truck verified that it was in fact lurching. . I think its a safety issue and have opened a claim with Toyota care. This is not a new issue as there are several written concerns in the Tacoma forums and on social media. I would hate to see someone get injured. I am not an automotive technician but I believe this possibly may be a software issue between the throttle control and onboard computer.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

It has happened 3 times. Mainly when I'm stopped and then trying to turn. I have my foot on the accelerator but it just won't go. It's a few seconds, then the truck will finally go. It only has about 200 miles on it. 2019 Tacoma sr. I could get rear ended or block the road if I get stalled! unsafe.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2019

For no reason at all my 2019 Toyota Tacoma sr5 stalled and displayed a "high transmission temp warning". This occurred when picking up my child from school. The truck would not shift and the breaks did not function I had to use ebrake to not hit other vehicles, and was stuck in the middle of the school parking lot with my two young children in az heat. I waited awhile after turning the truck off and shifting to park then turned vehicle back on and it then functioned as normal. I then took the Tacoma to avondale Toyota, for a diagnosis and repair. So far they have made no repairs as they said they could not replicate the problem and are on day two of having the vehicle testing it to see if it will have issue again. This could be a very dangerous situation if the situation was to occur on a highway or interstate or in the middle of 115 degree weather. Since this happened me and my family feel uneasy every time we take the vehicle anywhere. I'm hoping that this issue does not happen again and either resolves itself or Toyota fixes it. That is the reason I purchased a Toyota their reputation of reliability, but with less than 300 miles on this vehicle with this issue I hope I do not regret this decision.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

For no reason at all my 2019 Toyota Tacoma sr5 stalled and displayed a "high transmission temp warning". This occurred within a few blocks of leaving my home. A tow was necessary to get the truck to autonation Toyota, clearwater for diagnosis and repair. Autonation made no repairs as they said they could not replicate the problem. An online search revealed this high transmission temp warning and stalling has been occurring on Tacomas and tundras for the last 5 years. This could pose a very dangerous situation if the stall occurred on a highway or interstate. I'm sure Toyota is aware of the problem, but likely have kept quiet about it. Since this happened I feel uneasy every time I take the vehicle anywhere. I'm hoping NHTSA can help to resolve this safety issue.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

Transmission shutters and jerky when accelerating. Vibration when slowing down and during braking.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2019

I notice that my Tacoma 2019 sr5 vibrate when I'm braking from 20mph to 0. I don't know if it is a brake problem or the transmission when it shifting down on gear.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2019

While driving on cruise control the engine shifts to a higher gear for no reason resulting in higher gas usage. I also noticed while having the radar on while on adaptive cruise control, the vehicle will automatically "slam" the brakes for no reason resulting me in a bad situation due to traffic. The system engages the brakes for no reason even though the vehicle that the system is detecting is not even close to me in the front. Please fix this cruise control issue.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

After purchasing a 2019 Tacoma trd off-road it developed a rubbing noise. My first two complaints were brushed off. On my third complaint I was informed of a TSB related to bad axles. The TSB doesn't pertain to the trd trims but only the sr5 and lower. The axles have been replaced twice and still have noise. The truck has been in the shop since they started repairs. The third axle has been ordered. The mechanics from Toyota stated that it usually takes about 6 new axles until the problem is corrected. Noise was only noted at low speeds.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2019

From day one the Tacoma vibrates and shutters when breaking. The dealership said that Toyota would not look at it until I drove 1,500 miles first. The first time I brought in to the dealership they said they could not find anything wrong and it was ok. The second time I brought it to the dealership they said they had to shave the front rotors and sand the brake pads. The third time I brought it to the dealership they said it had defective rear bent axles and they had to replace those components. I understand Toyota has been aware of these issues for several years.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2018

Loud rattletlin noise heard at undercarriage when moving in neutral thru a bumpy road.
