3 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/13/2020

Right front wheel suddenly locks for several seconds putting a drag on that wheel, slowing that wheel down. Happens on sharp turns only so far, mostly going down hill, all at reasonable, safe speeds for the curve. Driver is not using the breaks at the times this has happened, and releases the gas and holds tight to the steering wheel. No dash lights appear. It is increasing in frequency and starting to scare us on our deep cliff curve roads. This has been happening just once in awhile 5 years, but is now happening 2-5 times each time we drive the 15 mile river canyon with tight curves and steep cliffs. We only know wheels ans brake system are involved, and the stability of the vehicle.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/05/2020

I need help please I brought a truck from dealer and they didn't tell me nothing about chases I have 45 days since I got it I was driving on freeway when I feel the truck was moving left side so I take to bodyshhop and the mechanic gave a report he found a lots problem with the truck I tried to speak with dealer but they not want to help or change the truck I want to return the truck because I can't pay for a truck t's not save to drive please help.

5 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

Brakes actuate abnornmal. Brakes engage approx. 2 seconds after they are applied. Brakes also will come on at full force locking the vehicle up. Master tech diagnostic - faulty brake booster. Toyota has recalls for 2012 Tacoma's however my VIN is not included in recall.

6 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/29/2019

On August 17, 2019, I had been stopped at a drive through fast food restaurant when I heard a hissing sound and what looked like steam coming from the rear undercarriage of my truck. It was noticeable enough to have me get down and physically look at the vehicle. I did not see any obvious signs of damage or error, so I went about my day as usual. I have noticed since then, this noise happens sporadically and the a/c is not working properly. I parked the truck for three weeks and when I went to start the truck, a bunch of instrument panel lights were flashing, wipers were wiping and interior lights were flashing off and on. I turned the truck off and then attempted to start again, but it would not start so I had to have the battery charged. Now the vehicle's rear blinkers do not work properly and stereo will not turn on. Fuses seem alright with the exception of one that continuously pops when replaced (fuse for stereo).

7 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

60,000 miles. Three years ago the airbag light came on. We brought it and paid for diagnostics but no answers. Now the check engine light and track off are lighting (not related to first issue) and the truck is in slowdown mode. We replaced the gas-cap but it didn't fix the issue. Disappointed in what used to be a quality company.

8 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/07/2019

Trac off warning light came on automatically. The vehicle was stationary. I had turned car on to drive down the hill on my property.

9 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

Pre-collision warning system is faulty. The system engages when nothing is in front of the vehicle to merit warnings or engaging the brakes automatically. However, the system does not engage when the truck is extremely close to the wall of a garage. Unfortunately there is no way to turn off this feature and it will ultimately result in an accident which may be fatal.

10 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/30/2018

My wife and I drove from austin texas to arkadelphi arkansas due to me getting out of the armyactive and my truck had been slowly studderjng, spitting etc. . Well it is stalled at a parking lot for a week now. . There is a recall for the crankshaft position sensor for my exact mode and Toyota will not honor my truck for it and that's the code it's reading etc. .

12 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/21/2018

My bsm sensors were blinking and a notice came up on the console to check bsm indicators. I manually turned off this function and back on---the light was blinking and the bsm sensors were still not working correctly. When I brought it in the dealership today they did some tests and looked at it and said they needed to replace the bsm wire harness because of water damage getting into the rear bumper. The estimate was for 1,0588. 49 for repare. I think if Toyota is selling blind spot monitors as a safety feature, they should last more than 2 years and needs to be recalled. This is an off road vehicle? this seems like a common problem after researching it online and it's a safety hazard, not to mention the vehicle is only 2 years old.

13 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/06/2018

The vehicles stability control engages when taking sharp corners, like curvy highways. When the stability control engages it locks the tires up trying to straighten out the vehicle forcing the vehicle into the oncoming traffic lane or off the road. I have to fight the vehicle just to keep it on the road under normal driving conditions. It has scared some of my passengers to the point that they won't ride in my vehicle anymore. I have heard of this happening to other similar Toyota's in my area. This incident has occurred many times since I have owned the vehicle.

14 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/18/2018

While driving 40 mph, the abs activated on its own and the vehicle started to vibrate while making a turn and the steering wheel began to pull in the opposite direction. This has happened at least 8 times since 2013.

15 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

We bought this truck in 2015 and was never informed of any recalls. We found out about the frame recall when it broke. It also has 5 other recalls which we were never informed on those either so when I called Toyota they said the frame recall and the frame warranty had both expired because the previous owner didn't make good on the recall letter he received but maybe he never received one because I know we never did on any of the 6 recalls and we still haven't even after calling them. We are still paying almost $400 a month and still have 13 payments left and we cant even drive it. I would say if Toyota never sent out the letters then that's not our fault and they should make good on the recalls and fix them including the frame replacement which is their fault due to a maufactuiring mess up.

16 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/08/2018

The secondary air injection system went out.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2017 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/28/2017

I was pulling accross a busy intersection and my truck completey lost power when trying to accelerate. I got a message brake and accelerator depressed simultaneously but they were not. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't figure out what was wrong.

18 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/30/2017

The abs actuates prematurely during cornering on freeway on/off ramps and in corners resulting in suspension dive, an under steer condition, and loss of vehicle control. This occurs when the vehicle is in motion at posted speed limits on dry pavement. I have contacted Toyota/been to the dealership several times about this issue with no resolution. They claim that the leveling kit and at tires are to blame. I related that I had this issue with the truck when it was brand new with no modifications.

19 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

At start up "check engine" and "trac off" lights were on. Truck had no acceleration and transmission would not shift. I took the car to the dealership and diagnostic codes p2440 and p2442 were detected. Dealer had to replace the air injection system bank 1 and bank 2. During research, I discovered numerous other owners of 2012 Tacoma's complaing about the same issue. Some even lost power while driving. Also, the tundra apparently had a similar issue being reported.

20 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/13/2017

I have check engine light on and the trac off light on. This common problem wiyhe tundra model. Alot of Tacoma owner have same problem but Tacoma doe not have exdended warranty like tha tundra. My truck only have 59k miles it's only 5years and 3 months old they said won't cover the problem. Problem 1 seconndary injection system valve I have to code p2440 p2442.

21 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/31/2017

Vehicle was in motion on rainy, wet highway when check engine light went on and traction control was shut off. The secondary air injection switching valve is apparently stuck closed, which for some reason shuts off the traction control. It is my understanding from speaking with other Tacoma and tundra owners that had the valves gotten stuck open, the vehicle goes into "limp mode" which automatically decreases speed to 20mph. Obviously, either of these occurrences are particularly unsafe in rainy and wet conditions, and the decrease in speed is unsafe during any highway traveling. This is apparently a big enough issue on the tundra models for Toyota to extend the warranty to 150,000mi, yet they have done nothing for the Tacomas which have an identical system and parts.

22 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/26/2017

I have owned a 08 Tacoma for about 4 years now, and have noticed a possible problem with the Toyota abs system. If when braking you hit a bump, pot hole, object, etc the abs system does not know exactly how to react and increases braking distance. I live in louisiana and our roads are not the best. I have noticed several times that I will be braking to avoid hitting something/someone, hit a bump, and my braking action is reduced until the system regains itself. You can hear the abs system respond each time this occurs and can notice that your vehicle isn't stopping. Like I stated before I've owned this truck for 4 years and have noticed this the entire time. I recently have had a few times to where the truck has not wanted to stop and I have almost hit someone because I started braking, hit a bump, and the system did not know how to react. This is a potentially dangerous situation that I would like fixed. I'm a loyal Toyota owner (have 4) and just want this issue addressed so that I don't have to worry about braking and hitting bumps. My vehicle was checked out my Toyota and everything was good with them. I contact Toyota about this issue and they stated that if the dealership says there's no problem, then there's no problem, but I could have problem fixed and they may reimburse me in the future. I've spoken with other owners and they have the same problems with similar years and models including 4runner. The abs system doesn't react like I feel it should when the tire's dynamic changes due to either a dump and/or going from hard surface to a soft surface such as dirt, if the brakes are applied before and through the change in dynamic. I have a particular bump in the road right before a turn that every time I hit it while braking to make the turn my abs pump surges, steering wheel vibrates, and braking is very limited until system regains itself.

23 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/23/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Tacoma. While driving 40 mph and attempting to make a right turn, the steering wheel began to pull in the opposite direction. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise emitting from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer was contacted by telephone and the contact was informed of NHTSA campaign number: 14v054000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact stated that the failure recurred four times. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

24 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

When coming to an abrupt stop, the transmission will slip into neutral and will not reengage first gear until the engine reaches 1. 5k rpm and jolting the truck forward. The truck will then not shift into fifth gear and the traction control off warning light comes on until the truck has been shut off.

25 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/21/2016

2012 Tacoma with 37,00 miles: while leaving a parking lot and trying to accelerate on to a busy highway, (60mph speeds), truck would not accelerate and "check engine" and "trac off" lights illuminated. Vehicle went into "limp mode" and would not go faster than 35 mph. I had to quickly pull off the road as to not cause an accident. If this had this occurred while traveling at normal highway speed (60 mph+), would definitely be in a wreck due to the sudden downshift and deceleration. I took vehicle to local auto parts store and received the code p2442: secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 2. From researching, this is a known problem with 2012 Tacomas, and had previously been an issue with older tundras, which Toyota issued a TSB for. Toyota refuses to repair this under warranty (either powertrain or federal emissions) even though the failed part is directly tied to the emissions system! the system is used to pump additional air into the exhaust manifold upon startup to dilute the over-rich conditions that lead to increased pollution. (how is that not an emissions related part?) the failure or warping of the one-way check valve causes hot exhaust gasses to backflow into the solenoid, and melting the gaskets. This ends up blocking the sealing plate and causing it to remain in the open position. The danger is that the hot exhaust is then fed into a plastic air pump causing it to potentially melt or catch fire! the fact that this forces the vehicle into "limp mode" is also a huge safety concern as it will not allow the vehicle to travel above 35 mph and could lead to serious accidents if traveling at high speed on the interstate or highway due to the unexpected, sudden deceleration. Failed assembly is Toyota part number : 25710-31020. This part number has been superseded by p/n: 25710-31022 and Toyota charges between $1500-$3200 to replace.

26 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/08/2016

2013 Tacoma, from parked position, started truck, release parking brake, foot on brake pedal, shifted to drive, accelerated, move about 5-10 feet truck acted as if brakes had been applied, would not move. I placed truck in park position shifted to drive and proceeded as normal. This happened two more times that same day about 20 minutes apart.

27 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/07/2016

I have been running the same wheels and tires on the vehicle since it was brand new, running 17" aluminum wheels with a 10- ply rated 265/70/17 michelin lt which is a standard size for this vehicle. At about 47,000 miles the traction control on my Tacoma started acting up badly making it very dangerous to drive on mountain roads with super-elevated turns. Basically the truck thinks it is sliding when it's not even close to breaking loose at 35 mph. The sensors or computer is failing causing the right front or left front wheel to pulse (apply brake pressure) which results in the vehicle pulling in the opposite direction I am steering. This is at low speed 35 to 40 mph. This is a very dangerous situation and I explained that the vehicle is 'pulling me across the center line into on coming traffic which could cause a head on collision and I got no response other than " if my shop foreman tells me the truck is operating as designed there is nothing more we can do or you. When I called it to the attention of the service manager and shop foreman at northridge Toyota, I was told the vehicle shows no errors so the truck is "operating as designed' and their suggestion was to deactivate the traction control from now on, each time I drive a mountain road. I explained that they were asking me to deactivate the on board safety measures on the vehicle in order to drive the truck in the highest risk driving conditions, they again said the truck was operating as designed and that I should not expect their to be any repairs made. This is absolutely inexcusable. They went on to suggest I seek a second opinion at another dealer and they sent me down the road in my truck even though I told them the symptoms, duplicated the problem with shop foreman in the truck and most importantly that the truck was unsafe to drive. Fascinating!!!.

28 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/16/2016

My 2012 Toyota Tacoma prerunner 2wd has 54,640 miles. I just got a check engine light and "trac off" light yesterday. My truck would accelerate to just 25 mph when merging onto the interstate and top speed was around 50 mph. This is a serious safety issue and Toyota will not cover this known problem under the standard 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. Autozone ran the diagnostic scan and came up with trouble codes p2440 and p2442. These are tied to the secondary air injection system and switching valves. The Toyota dealership said this would cost me close to $2000 to repair. I paid $30,000 for this vehicle brand new just 4 years ago. This needs to become a class action lawsuit so that a safety recall is issued for Toyota to repair this known defect for free.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

As I've read from numerous other 2012 Tacoma owners on Tacomaworld. Com, my secondary air injection switching valve has failed at 65k miles. This seems to be a recurring issue with all 2012 similar Tacoma models and should absolutely be recalled and replaced for free! until fixed, my truck is undrivable, meaning the cel light is on and the truck won't go faster than 30 mph.

30 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/04/2016

Check engine light came on and vehicle was not going past 2k rpm and over 20mph. Connected to an onboard diagnostic reader which gave me codes p2440 and p2442- secondary air injection valve stuck open bank 1 & 2. Vehicle has less than 50,000 miles and only 4 years old and Toyota does not cover faulty equipment under any warranty (powertrain or federal emissions) although they have issued canada TSB 3861 acknowledging the deficiency, but leaving the owner to pay $645. 00 for the replacement part from Toyota dealer. This is unsatisfactory- they must be held accountable for a vehicle still within powertrain (60,000mi) or federal emission (80,000mi) warranty.

31 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/17/2016

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact was notified NHTSA campaign recall notification 14v604000 of the recall on the leaf springs. The vehicle was taken into the dealer and diagnosed the under body frame of the vehicle was corroded. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. Am.

32 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

Abs goes off unexpectedly in low speeds/high speeds. . . Dry/wet conditions. . . Usually on winding roads with grade fluctuations causing vehicle to slide into oncoming traffic. This has been going on since my purchase in 2012. Thankfully I have not been in an accident due to this but lots of close calls. Toyota refuses to resolve this issue, and denys that it happens.

33 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Rodents ate wiring harness in engine compartment, while driving in the city, the trac and check engine light cane on. I returned home and retrieved error code p0333 on my reader. I took vehicle to doxon Toyota for service / repair. They confirmed code and said that rodents had chewed knock sensor wire harness. I was told that tis was not covered by warranty even though the vehicle was less than two years and less than 9000 miles of use. I consider that making electrical components out of material that is attractive and tasty to rodents a traction and air-bag safety concern, I. E. Soybean based wire insulation. I have been operating motor vehicles since 1963 and have never had this happen to ant vehicle I have owned.

34 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving around corners at various speeds, the vehicle's wheels start to tremble causing the driver to lose stability. The contact stated that a red sensor warning light appeared on the vehicle simultaneously as the failure occurred. The contact took the vehicle to frontier Toyota 23621 creekside rd, valencia, CA 91355 where he was informed that the matter was normal vehicle operation. The contact also stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle's fuel pump failed to operate without warning. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was inspected and replaced. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,000. The failure mileage was the vehicle's stability control was unknown. Jo.

35 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/24/2015

Brakes on vehicle lock-up and are overly sensitive. On many occasions when driving on wet pavement at slows speeds the abs engaged and locked the brakes with only very light pressure on the brake pedal. On one occasion when driving at 10-15 mph in a parking lot in snow, a light touch to the brake locked up the brakes causing the vehicle to become unstable and crash. I have had four other Toyota trucks, three of them Tacomas and none of them had this braking issue. Barely pressing the brakes shouldn't cause them to lock up which causes the vehicle to become very unstable. Luckily it does it more often at low speeds. It's a major safety concern as the vehicle becomes undrivable.
