Less than 5000 miles - seat popping and cracking noise. If you look it up online, a lot of the 4th gen Tacomas are doing this but when you take it to a dealership they say that is normal. It feels like the seat will break and moves around alot but Toyota will not acknowledge the issue at the dealership and has no fix. Seems unsafe.

- driver’s seat back recliner mechanism / seatback locking mechanism. During a rear-end interstate collision while stopped in traffic, the driver’s seat suddenly reclined backward unexpectedly. After the accident, the recliner adjustment knob/handle was found detached at the tow yard. The vehicle is currently at a tow/salvage yard and may be available for inspection upon request. - because the seat reclined unexpectedly during impact, the driver’s body position changed suddenly and the front airbag did not appear to make protective contact. The driver briefly lost consciousness and is experiencing significant neck stiffness and pain following the crash. The seat movement may have reduced the effectiveness of the airbag and seatbelt system and increased risk of head and neck injury. - no. The vehicle has not been evaluated by a dealer or independent service center at this time due to collision damage. - the vehicle has been inspected by police at the accident scene and is pending inspection by insurance. The seat mechanism has not yet been specifically evaluated by the manufacturer. - no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms related to the seat or restraint system were observed before the accident.

Right front seat cushion appears to be collapsed / defective. Was present at 29 miles. Dealer looked at it, and dismissed it as not there problem. Started a case with Toyota north America, and they're refusing to acknowledge any problem. The passenger seat is noticeably collapsed compared to drivers seat. I have since parked the vehicle as I feel it is unsafe to drive. I bought this truck new the week of thanksgiving 2025. I fear that the seat may structurally fail during an accident, thus injuring any passenger in that seat.
Dear Toyota japan customer experience team, I am the owner of a 2016 Toyota Tacoma currently registered in guam, u. S. A. I am writing to request your assistance regarding a water leak issue from the rear brake light area, which has caused the carpets and seats to become wet and develop mold. I originally purchased this vehicle in saipan and recently relocated to guam. When I visited the guam Toyota service center, they kindly inspected my vehicle and informed me that this issue is related to the 3rd brake light gasket recall; however, the recall period has already expired. Unfortunately, I was never notified of this recall while the vehicle was in saipan. Continuous exposure to mold has seriously affected both my health and my daughter’s health. Because of this, I had the vehicle professionally cleaned and sanitized by a specialist company. The Tacoma has always been our family’s favorite car, but now I drive it only because I have no choice. Every time I get in, I feel anxious and uneasy. The water leak itself is concerning, but the mold issue worries me even more. I truly hope this water leak and the mold problem can both be resolved so that I can once again enjoy driving my Tacoma with peace of mind. The blue circles in the attached photos indicate areas suspected of mold. These photos were taken right before I sent the car for cleaning. According to the cleaning company, when they removed the seats, they found water underneath the seats and carpets. Whenever I drive the vehicle, I experience persistent coughing and headaches due to mold exposure. This has become a serious health and safety concern. Since this issue is directly related to a previously recalled safety defect, I kindly request Toyota japan to consider a goodwill repair or safety exception to address the water leak and the resulting interior damage.

Hello, writing to make a complaint about the heated seat ecu in my Toyota Tacoma. It looks like improper wire connectors or improper gauge wires have caused the power connector to melt, and have rendered my heated seats inoperable. It seems if a part gets hot enough inside the vehicle cab to warm up and melt, it could potentially cause a fire.

Heated seat had stopped working, checked and found the problem. The module that controls the heated seats had a melted connector and wires, causing the seat to no longer be able to have heated seats.
Driver seat does not hold after setting to correct height. After driving the seat rests to the lower position. Wipers make a tapping noise when in operation at full left wipe. At times blind spot warning engages when surrounding is clear.
I had noticed my heated seat stopped working. Upon investigation and searching the web for similar issues I found that a relay for the seats located under each front seat was the issue. I saw pictures online of others and when I pulled my seat out I found the connection between the wires and relay had been completely burned and melted. This is Toyota part number 87501-0c020. When looking up this part it is discontinued with no replacement. There’s no recall or warning from Toyota for this issue. This same part is also installed on tundra too. By the amount of burning this is definitely a safety issue and I don’t know why it has not been addressed.
The driver's seat will not consistently hold the height, it will drop to the lowest height level on it's own.
Seat heater not working. I looked online to see what the issue could be and learned there was issues with the seat heater amp burning up from being defective. I pulled the amp and noticed the amp was burnt up and so was the wiring. This is a fire hazard.
Noticed that my floor is getting soaked for no reason. After bring my truck to arlington Toyota I found out that is was the cabin pressure vent that was leaking. The cabin pressure vent is found between the truck bed and cab. They recalled the third break light in 2019 for leaking water into the cabin but Toyota won’t recognize this pressure vent as a recall which is also leaking water into the cabin. After pulling up all of the carpet I have black mold all under the carpet where my newborn baby was riding. Black mold is a huge health concern. Looking online this is a known issue with Toyota Tacomas. My parts to fix this issue have been back ordered for two mths so far, still with no eta on when they will be available. According to the service rep, I am one of nine people currently dealing with this same issue at arlington Toyotas dealership alone. So no time frames have been provided. When I was quoted the 5800 to fix this issue they suggested I go through insurance. This seems to be a known issue with product quality and instead of recalling they are pushing it to insurance companies. Seems to be a shady practice Toyota is pulling and no one is big enough to stop them.
The driver seat manual height adjustment. When you raise the drivers seat to the maximum height, within 30 minutes of driving, the seat slowly lowers on its own. I would have to give it 2-3 cranks to raise the seat. Overnight, the next morning, without anyone in the seat, it needs 2-3 cranks to raise the seat back to its maximum height. I’m afraid it may get worse in time and might just lower all the way down when driving. This is a daily occurrence.
The seat heater thermostat under the driver’s seat melted and charred while heater was in use fire danger. Dealer said this happens to a small number of vehicles of similar age and manufacture date. This was inspected by the dealership. No lights or warns came on before, during or after. I noticed the seat heater stopped working. I inspected the fuse. The fuse was not burned out. I found the melted part under the seat in the heater wiring harness assembly. I have removed the fuse at this time to prevent energizing the harness further.
I purchase new 2024 Toyota Tacoma sr truck, at approximately 200 miles. False warnings every time. Like " attention check rear seat" appeared every time after I turn off engine. And when there aren't any kids or pets back there. Very frustrated. And this is a brand new truck. What kind of quality control.
Seat heating module for my driver seat has melted and is further irrepairable without buying the entire harness to fix the issue. There are multiple reports of this happening across forums.
The front driver's seat is loose and has movement/play. Described by dealer service tech as a 'wobble'. Seat is not fully secure/stable. Vehicle was taken to original delivery dealer (dublin Toyota, 4321 Toyota dr, dublin CA 94568) for inspection, ro#569625. The vehicle was returned without the issue being corrected. Received verbal response that the dealer was not able to do anything about it (incl replacement of components, etc. And was told other 2023 model year Tacomas exhibit the same behavior of the loose driver's seat). Called and spoke with Toyota brand engagement (800) 331-4331 as instructed by the service advisor. Ticket was recorded as case 240326001302 and was closed without solving the issue. I was advised by the Toyota case in that case 240326001302, where the agent recommended I speak with another dealer (livermore Toyota) to get a second opinion before the case could get escalated. The vehicle was not repaired and I was sent home with the loose seat. Per the description from repair order 569625, on 3/26/2024: "cause: driver's seat seems loose and wobbles. Remove seat assembly and check all hardware. Everything checked ok. Reinstall seat and tighten mounting bolts. Check with another 2023 Tacoma VIN#3tmcz5an5pm627083. Driver's seat operation is the same. Thank you 2426" I strongly believe that a loose driver's seat that exhibits 'wobble' is unsafe and also causes discomfort / lack of confidence for the driver.

2017 Tacoma trd pro water has been leaking through the rear air-pressure vents for quite some time. I have had a moldy/musty smell in the truck after a good rain for at least 6 months. Then I started noticing mold coming up on the driver's side kick plate. We went through all the diagnostic steps with Toyota dealership, who kept telling us it was the windshield leaking. We had the windshield removed and reset. The windshield people told us it was the cowl under the windshield allowing water to come in through the air filter behind the glovebox. We took it back to Toyota dealer and they could not find the problem. I paid them $165 to "not" diagnose my truck. They also handed me an estimate for $11,000 to remediate the mold. When we got the truck home, we started looking up the problem on Tacoma forums and youtube and finally discovered it was the air vents behind the rear seat. I pulled the plastic molding back and there was tons on mold. I took it back to the dealership for repair. The dealership has now said they will replace the air vents but will not remediate the mold. I have had sinus trouble for more than a year and did not know why. I believe this is the reason.
I had a heated seat failure. I do have the parts available for inspection. I removed the seat to find that the sub assy-seat heater and connecting wiring harness had been burnt which could potentially cause a fire. Toyota part numbers effected are: sub assy - 87501-0c020, wiring harness in the heater assy - 87510-04040 which was replaced by 87510-04050. I reported the issue to Toyota. There were no warning lights or indicators that there was an issue. The heated seat indicator light still shows the seat as on even though it was not heating. Toyota service bulletin t-sb-0130-18 has been issued about this issue, so Toyota obviously knows there is an issue. I've read in forums online that the root issue is the wiring not being large enough to handle the power to the seat, so ultimately replacing the factory parts would not guarantee the issue will not happen again.
Could feel and hear the front passenger seat (including the supplemental restraint system airbag) and seat belt move side to side and making a noise. I took the vehicle to Toyota of denton, in denton texas for evaluation. Here is what they found from the service manager's email "yours will need the seat frame replaced. The seat was removed, we found the seat track has play in it and is non serviceable meaning it comes as an assembly and you can not get individual parts for it. The estimate is $2234. 28 and the part would take 3-4 weeks to come in as it is on back order. Keep in mind, that time can change along the way, but that is the current eta. If you want to proceed with the repair, you would need to pre pay for the part and the diagnostic. The total repair would be reduced by the amount prepaid. I did reach out to Toyota and there would be no goodwill offered for this repair. It was just purchased and the selling dealer is who I would recommend you ask them for assistance. Please let me know how you would like to proceed. " this same type of issue is found on from multiple owners. How many passenger seat frames have been replaced on 2019-2023 Tacomas, thousands? this is a huge safety issue effecting the safety of the seatbelt and airbag of the front passenger occupant. What is worse Toyota motor corp. Refuses to honor their own srs fully transferable 5 year - 60,000 mile warranties. Leaving owners of these vehicles to pay for the cost on their own or worse driving a vehicle with loose seats, airbags, airbag sensors, and front passenger seat belts. The NHTSA needs to conduct an immediate full safety recall of all 2019-2023 Toyota Tacoma loose passenger seats due to factory defect faulty seat frames, which directly bolt the front passenger seat belt, airbag, and safety sensors to the vehicle. The NHTSA additionally needs to investigate srs warranty fraud conducted by Toyota motor corp, for failing to uphold their own published srs warranties.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? heated seat heating module. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? module burned out during usage and emitted fire odor and smoke when burnt out (potential fire hazard if kept on). Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? t-sb-0130-18 has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? unknown. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? none. 2016 Tacoma limited heated seat heating module overheated/burned out with slight smoke under seat during minimal usage (texas based). T-sb-0130-18 released in October 2018, about the time most of the 2016 (produced in 2015) are going out of warranty, and based on frequency of usage and locale (warmer climates observe less usage) - also even though parts used are the same, VIN is apparently not affected. Toyota will not honor TSB even though the burn out can be a potential fire hazard if not known/smelled especially while traveling and buckled into seat belt (similar to mercedes heated seats caught on fire). No notice provided by Toyota of TSB at time of issue. Item should be a recall as it affects many 2016-2018 Tacoma's and is a fire safety and burn hazard.
Driver’s side front seat not delivering heat despite switch lamp indicating it’s on and working. Further exploration reveals passenger side seat heater working as it should. I checked wiring harness and connections under driver’s seat only to discover plastic connector entering amplifier scorched and melted with two of four pins destroyed (red and green wires). I believe the wire gauge sized for this system is improper and therefore represents a fire hazard. About the time the seat heater failed, I smelled a burning odor inside the car for a short time but didn’t associate the two events until later. The vehicle has 135,998 miles on it and therefore out of warranty. I spoke to the dealer who explained he’s had similar issues from other customers and added there is no recalls at this time.
While driving down the road with my driver seat warmer on, the heating element and/or associated electronics burned a hole in the seat canvas and through the jacket I was wearing. I think a small fire started which I put out with my finger and then I turned off the seat heater.
The subject vehicle left roadway and impacted a tree in a pure frontal impact. The front seat passenger airbag failed to deploy. An 11 year old child was seated and properly belted in the front passenger seat. The child was killed as a result of blunt force trauma to his head when his head struck the front dash structure. In addition, the belted occupant seated behind the front passenger seat, while properly belted, impacted the rear of the front passenger seat and the seat deformed forward, limiting the ride down space for the front passenger seat occupant. The other three occupants in the subject Toyota Tacoma suffered non-life threatening injuries.
There is a recall on the rear seat anchor and no remedy listed nd its almost been a month. I have two small children that use my truck as their primary transportation because we are a one car family. No dealership will issue me a loaner car. My children have no way to get to school because Toyota can not make reliable and safe vehicles.

A child infant passenger car seat was placed in the rear passenger center seat position. The the shoulder/lap-belt was used to install the car seat rear-facing. Once the install was complete. The shoulder belt was slowly pulled and extended all the way out. The purpose was to have the shoulder belt reach its maxed length. This would position the belt to be placed into retracting mode only. This would prevent the child or an infant to possibly extend the belt once its been retracted. This would minimize the free play with the belt such as being tangled with child's arm, head, body parts, and potentially becoming a choking hazard. The issue now, is the shoulder/lap-belt retracting mechanism is malfunctioning. The shoulder/lap belt is not retracting. Rather it is stuck and now the entire shoulder/lap belt is extended all the way out. There is no resistance in the seat-belt and cannot will not secure a rear passenger in the center seat position. The rear center seat does not have a working safety car passenger safety belt.

The driver's side seat heating element failed due to a defective seat heater amp. When independently researching the failure, which could have simply been an unconnected wire, I discovered the amp and wiring had an electrical seizure and the wiring had burned the amp. The heating amp sits underneath the seat and with the right conditions could cause the seat to catch fire. The issue has been reported to Toyota corporate.
Tacoma was rear-ended at 80 mph. Tacoma rolled over three times front airbags did not go off. . Side curtain bags did. . Seat belt on driver side failed after the second rollover. . Rear cross traffic warning did not go off. . Driver seat collapsed. Driver was injured and was in trauma unit for 3 weeks. Vehicle last known is located off of belvedere road in west palm beach florida. . I called up Toyota and a third party got the edr from the vehicle. . I have a copy of it. As far as I know the problem has not been inspected.
3rd generation (2016+) Toyota Tacoma's have a known technical service bulletin regarding leaking of the 3rd brake light. During rainfall and driving through a carwash, water will leak into the drivers compartment resulting in water damage and potential for mold and mildew. A quick internet search will result in thousands of owners reporting this issue. Toyota refuses to cover this issue if you are outside of their warranty period, which can result in $1000+ labor bill to replace a faulty gasket. Seeing as this is a potential health risk to owners, this should be a mandatory recall to replace for owners outside of the warranty period.
•the heated seat amp connections melted under the front seats during use, it is available and a I have taken pictures. •the melting amp could have caused a fire, it did cause some smoke with a strong smell of burning plastic. •they are aware of this issue at the dealership but did not look at vehicle. •no they did not inspect it, stating this is a common issue. •no warnings or messages. First appeared 02/21.
Tl- the contact owns a 2020 Toyota Tacoma driven by his son. The contact stated that as his son was cleaning the vehicle, he noticed that the driver's seat frame was rusted. The contact was concerned that the vehicle was new and that the failure could cause the vehicle to snap and cause the son to get into an accident, while driving. The vehicle was taken to the roseville Toyota dealer, located 700 automall dr, roseville, CA 9566, where the service manager stated that seat frames tended to rust overtime. However, he proceeded to inspect other Toyota Tacomas in the lot and did not find any similar vehicle with such a failure. The service manager referred the matter to the regional representative who stated that the manufacturer would not be responsible for the repairs. The contact made the manufacturer aware of the issue and was told that the manufacturer would not be responsible for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 3,369. Fe.
Electrical wiring/connector for the heated seat module located under the driver seat overheated or arced causing the connector (s) to melt posing a safety hazard and rendering the heated seat inoperable.
Seat became unlatched, while applying brakes.
Due to the fact that we never test drove the 2019 Toyota Tacoma that we were given to purchase, and my husband drove the vehicle home I did not have the chance to try the vehicle until we arrived home. The first time that I sat in the vehicle, I felt extreme discomfort and electric shocks from the vehicle, very similar to the electric shocks that I received from the 2017 Toyota prius. My husband thought that it was caused from my health condition from my car accident and he agreed that, since I did not feel any discomfort driving the sienna, he would be the only that would drive the Tacoma and that I would primarily drive the sienna. When we took the 2019 Toyota sienna back to dealership on February 13, 2020, I was forced to drive the 2019 Toyota Tacoma and while doing so I felt the same electric shocks and they were more intense and stronger to extent that it caused extreme pain in my stomach and bruises on my body. In the case of the seatbelt, it did not rest on my neck like the in the sienna, but it rested on my arm where I received bruises from the seatbelt.
