Wheel Rim Problems of Toyota Tacoma

The contact owned a 2012 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while his son was driving 40 mph, the rear driver-side wheel rim detached. The traction control and abs warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle veered to the right, accelerated independently and went up the embankment, hit a tree and accelerated independently down the embankment when the vehicle flipped on the passenger side where it came to a stop.  the driver-side and passenger-side air bags deployed and side curtain air bags deployed. A police report was not filed. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The insurance company was contacted and pending results. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.  VIN number not available.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact noticed that the tire pressure warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician was unable to diagnose a failure. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the front driver side and the front and rear passenger side rims were corroded. The vehicle was included in the recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 06v061000 (tires:bead) and taken to the dealer for inspection but the tires were not replaced under the recall. The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. The contact purchased 4 weld wheel the mountain crusher rims. When the vehicle was washed and it rained the water seeped into the rims and created a puddle. The water also damaged the color of the rims. Intense motor sports diagnosed the rims, and stated there was nothing they could do.

Center hole in stamped steel rim is too small to properly fit over center hub. Tightening the lug nuts will effect a "press fit" over the hub, making it virtually impossible to remove the front wheel in the event of a flat tire, etc. Road service truck driver unable to remove wheel. Truck driver had to haul truck on flatbed to a garage where an impact hammer had to be used to remove the wheel from the hub. This is a potentially dangerous situation when a driver cannot change a tire, and must resort to towing to a garage for what should be an easily performed task.

Several repairs to wheels and tires. Re:steve & kathy mittman the consumer had been to three Toyota dealers in performing repairs to the wheels and tires. Beaver Toyota performed two complete alignments and replaced three wheels that were out of specifications. American Toyota has performed a complete alignment, mounted and balanced all the tires on the wheels, prior to replacement by beaver Toyota. Karl malone had replaced two tires that were found to have excessive run out, as well as mount and balanced all four tires on the new wheels. The manufacturer agreed that this was a defect but declined to replace all five tires and the rims due to sources who stated the tires were within specification.
