36 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/26/2016

Driving down the highway I had a small rock come up and hit my windshield, I didn't notice any rock chip but I woke up the next morning and there was a 10 inch crack in the glass, the same thing happened with my mom's 2016 Tacoma.

37 Wiper problem of the 2014 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/30/2016

The side view mirrors fog over, I cleaned them off with a towel before I start off to work. If the weather conditions change and creates either a fog bank or a condensation condition(s) it blocks the use of the side mirrors. Older Toyota trucks did not have this problem due to the mirrors had no bezel around them and the air flow over the top created a low pressure zone and evaporated the moisture. This style of mirror (on the 2014 Tacoma) does not allow that condition to happen. Toyota does not provide heated mirrors for this vehicle. Their 2000 4runner does, (my wife owns one and it solves the above stated problem). This is lack of visibility for the use of the side mirrors, please look into to this. I have complained to the dealer and company, their response is they don't off heated side view mirrors on the Tacoma thanks.

38 Wiper problem of the 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/26/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Toyota Tacoma. When the driver side window was wet, it made a loud squealing noise and extreme moisture accumulated in the door well. The dealer diagnosed and repaired the vehicle twice, but the failure recurred. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 6,500.

39 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/10/2016

Windshield cracked 2 weeks after purchasing the truck. Had to pay $500 deductible through my insurance, windshield from Toyota cost $1,000. Next issue is my transmission slipping when shifting from reverse to drive. Took it into the dealership and they found the transmission to be low, they topped it off and it's still lagging when shifting. Miss the engine in my 2012 2nd gen. Come on Toyota!!!!.

40 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/27/2015

I had this truck less than 2 weeks with around 500 miles on it and the windshield cracked due to a pebble hitting it at a fairly low speed. The windshield seems to be especially fragile in the 2016 Tacoma as I have had multiple rocks hit my windshield at higher speeds and never had it crack so easily. I have also found that many other 2016 Tacoma owners are experiencing the same issue.

41 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/04/2015

The windshield cracked after the first pebble hit it on the interstate. I was in a construction zone doing about 50 mph. While this sounds like a normal issue, this happened 200 miles after getting the vehicle. I traded in my 2009 Tacoma which had been hit hundreds of times on this same stretch of road. I didn't think too much of it until I went to the auto glass repair place and discovered mine was the 3rd 2016 Tacoma that week for the same issue. Further research revealed that the 2016 went to a new multi-layered glass that cuts down on noise. I think this contributed to the windshield damage. While a minor chip may have been the result if it had happened with an older version windshield.

42 Wiper problem of the 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/09/2015

I have twice in the last year brought my 2015 Toyota Tacoma to the dealership in stuart florida to address a safety related issue where I reported that every morning on my way to work condensation accumulates on the outside of the windshield restricting vision. The windshield defrost vent directs air-conditioned cold air, even when the defrost feature is not selected, creating a potentially serious vision impairment safety hazard. The only way to remove the condensation is to engage the windshield wiper every couple of minutes when condensation becomes too dense. Last week the dealer witnessed the issue and could actually feel the cold air being emitted and then consulted with a corporate technical assistant who advised via technical case #152830046 ¿the hvac system was operating as designed¿ and blaming florida¿s humidity. I have owned and operated many vehicles in florida over many years including Toyotas and never experienced this problem. Either the hvac system on this model has a safety flaw in the ¿design¿ or the corporation is trying to avoid what may be a costly, potentially fleet-wide, repair. Nonetheless impair vision is a safety hazard that needs to be corrected by Toyota.

43 Wiper problem of the 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/05/2015

The side view mirrors are too big and obstruct the view when turning right or left. The driver's side view mirror is worse and when turning left you can't see if there is a pedestrian in the crosswalk. It seems to be a problem for short drivers mostly and most women are much shorter than men. I have gone to the dealer and they do not have a solution. This seems to have been a problem on a number of Toyotas for many years. I suspect I will have to go to a junk yard and find something that is smaller. . Read more...

44 Wiper problem of the 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/07/2015

At night, the top 1/3rd of the windshield causes double vision of lights. This occurs for all headlights, taillights, signal lights, and streetlights. This doesn't occur lower in the windshield, but it's unavoidable for taller drivers (I'm over 6' tall). This does occur the entire width of the windshield. It doesn't occur with any of the side windows. It also did not occur in a previous 2013 Tacoma that I owned. I've verified this with the dealership (kearny mesa Toyota, san diego CA). They were able to reproduce the issue in my brand new vehicle. They have also reproduced this in 3 other brand new 2015 Toyota Tacomas on their lot. They have stated that this is simply the way the windshield is manufactured. This is a serious night time safety issue that appears to be inherent in all 2015 Tacomas. It seems to me that the state of California would refuse to issue me a drivers license if I told them I had night time double vision. It can't be acceptable that it's built into a vehicle.

45 Wiper problem of the 2014 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

Allow me to explain by starting with the following 2 facts: 1. The recommended action to take when it is cold outside and the windshield begins to fog up while driving is to turn on the defroster on high heat. 2. The 2014 Tacoma will not allow me to run the defroster with recirculated air, but rather forces me to use 'fresh' air when using the defroster. The 2 facts listed above make the truck unsafe to drive in cold or humid weather for following 2 reasons: 1. The fresh air (required while using the defroster) is not actually fresh, but rather smells like whatever air happens to be around the Tacoma at that time, which many times happens to be the exhaust of the vehicle in front of or near the truck. This dirty air, containing hazardous exhaust fumes not only smells bad, but cannot be good for your skin, lungs, and overall health. This situation is intensified to the point of coughing and gagging when there are diesel exhaust fumes or while idling at a red light near a lot of vehicles. 2. The only way to stop the dirty air from entering the cab of the truck through the defroster is to turn the defroster off and turn the air to another option (other than defrost) that allows recirculated air. This creates an extremely unsafe situation as now the windshield begins to fog up immediately, causing the inability to see the road clearly. So in cold or humid weather, you either cannot see the road or you have to breathe in poisonous fumes. With a 2014 Toyota Tacoma, you have to pick your 'poison' if you want to drive in the cold.

46 Wiper problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/19/2014

Around 150,000mi my drivers side sun visor started hanging lower until eventually it hangs straight down in the way (hard plastic shell underneath the cloth covering is cracked which allows less tension on the spring plate and it sags down. Around 190,000mi the passenger side started to fail.

47 Wiper problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

Sun visor has been sagging for a while and then finally fell off the metal post that slides inside the heavy visor.

48 Wiper problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/05/2013

My passenger side sun visor is flopping down by itself blocking my field of view while driving. I had to replace my driver's side sun visor over a year ago because of the same issue. Toyota has apparently improved the design of the sun visor, but will not recall the old design and will gladly charge you $120 to replace it. This is a serious visability issue that Toyota needs to repair at no cost to the customer.

49 Wiper problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/30/2012

Sun visor dropped and will stay in place. No reason for this to happen; it's distracting and dangerous as it fails to adequately block the sun. There appears to be a defect in the mechanism holding the visor in place. Compounding the problem is the part is not readily available at parts stores and it's pretty expensive -- more than $100 each for something that never should have failed to begin with.

50 Wiper problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

The driver side sun visor will not stay flat against the roof. It appears the internal spring or mechanism is defective and no longer holds the visor in a correct position. Visor now just flaps down obstructing view.

51 Wiper problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Sideview mirrors vibrate causing loud noise at freeway speeds.

52 Wiper problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/22/2012

While driving on a major highway in the rain, passenger side windshield wiper stopped working due to failed wiper linkage.

53 Wiper problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/07/2012

Sun visor made cracking type sounds when folding down or up to use. Now it will not stay up or fold up against windshield. It is a vision hazard.

54 Wiper problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/18/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the driver's side sun visor opened independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the entire sun visor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.

55 Wiper problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/07/2010

The windshield wipers on my 2009 Toyota Tacoma abruptly stopped working while driving in rain. Visibility was seriously limited, making the situation dangerous to me and others. I took the vehicle to the closest Toyota dealer, they determined the wiper motor was defective and they would have to order one. The problem persists and has yet to be repaired.

56 Wiper problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

Sun visors will not stay up part way. They drop completely and block the drivers view. I had the same problem with my other Toyotas: 2006 corolla, 2007 corolla, and 2010 corolla. The visor would drop at all times when in use.

57 Wiper problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/01/2008

The sun visors, first on the driver's side, then on the passenger side, made a crunching sound when pulled down to block the sun and, afterward, would not hold itself in its upward position. At first, it was merely annoying, since it didn't block much of my view out of the windshield, but within a month it would not hold itself up at all, which blocked a significant amount of my forward view out of the windshield. The 2 local Toyota dealerships were not interested in replacing them, as my Tacoma had 50,000 miles on it (standard warranty expired at 36,000). I eventually removed both sun visors, since it was unsafe to drive with them blocking 50% or more of my forward view. Replacements from Toyota cost $100 each, I did not replace them, mainly because they were of the same design and I have no confidence they would last any longer. I disassembled (destructively is the only way to do so) one of the broken visors and discovered that the visor pivots on a short metal shaft. On this shaft is a, roughly, c-shaped metal clip inside a plastic housing. The clip appears to hold the tension necessary to keep the visor in place. The plastic housing, in turn, connects the metal clip to the rest of the visor. However, the plastic housing around the clip was broken, allowing the clip to rotate within and the visor to droop. There is no fix to repair this plastic housing as the fabric trim has to be removed to access it. Replacement of the visor assembly is the only option.

58 Wiper problem of the 2000 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/01/2000

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the door locks, windshield wipers, and brakes failed. Also, the rear axle fractured and the bumper detached from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the Toyota of the desert dealer (located at 68105 kyle road, cathedral city, California 92234; 760-328-0871) where it was repaired. The contact was unsure of all the repairs that were made. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The VIN and failure mileage were unknown.
