The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Tundra. While at a traffic light the vehicle suddenly caught fire near the fuel pump. The contact was able to safely get out of the vehicle immediately and call the fire department who extinguished the fire. There were no injuries. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact notified the manufacturer regarding the fire and filed a claim. The manufacturer also had the vehicle inspected by an investigator which confirmed that the fire started within the fuel pump. The contact received a letter after the investigation from the manufacturer stating that they were not responsible. The contact stated that since the failure was a safety issue, the manufacturer should be responsible. The failure mileage was 68,000.
Engine would shut off intermittently at any speed, then finally would not start when shut off, dealer replaced fuel pump, same problem happened again in less than 1000 miles, different dealer replaced pump again, same thing happened again within 1000 miles, another dealer replaced wiring harness to pump, in less than 20 miles same thing again, this time the same dealer replaced wiring harness to engine compartment, truck made it back to office, unknown if this fix will work.
