1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2024

This vehicle was recalled for frame rust issues. The dealer under coated the frame in-lieu of replacing it, as they have done with so many others. Now I'm facing a safety issue, as the frame has rusted through in critical areas. The major concern is if the frame snaps in half while under high speeds causing an accident and potentially injuring other and or myself. I have contacted the manufacturer and they provided a case number (240530000550). The dealer is aware of this issue and they were the ones that recommended contacting this organization as well as the manufacturer.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2024

I purchased a 2005 Toyota Tundra for my son for his first vehicle. After taking it to a professional mechanic to be inspected I was told that the frame is rotted from rust and cannot pass inspection. After researching this issue I found that Toyota had a recall on their frames because of how many and how bad the frames were. I believe this Tundra rates the recall because of how bad the rust is. Any help getting this recall to fix this known issue with the rusting frames would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2024

Was told my truck would not be able to be inspected next year because of a rotting frame! this potentuly means I will not have a safe vehicle. I have not brought my truck to a dealer. . . But I must say I did have the same problem with my last truck a (Toyota Tundra) and it was taken care of and was pleased by the outcome, that is why I bought another of the same. I feel after spending the money a vehicle costs this is something the manufacture should remedy. With the cost of a new vehicle. . It is almost impossible to buy. My truck is in good running condition along with being a great truck. If it weren't for the rotting frame I'm sure I would get many more years of service from it. Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Thank you , teri greenway h2ofront1@aol. Com ps if pictures are needed I will supply them, just ask.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

The frame on this truck is severely compromised by rust. This is a well known problem with early Toyota Tundras, and Toyota issued a recall that ended with model year 2004, despite knowing that it was also an issue with 2005 and 2006 models as well. This is one of these trucks. This particular truck has large rust holes in the frame near the front driver's side wheel, and had multiple very weak spots that are on the brink of failure, all while the body and suspension components are in relatively good shape still. This creates a significant safety hazard. A Toyota dealership in effingham, IL looked at the frame a number of years ago, but didn't do any work on it, claiming that it was not covered by Toyota's recalls or service bulletins.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2024

Frame corrosion through out the entire frame. Recently the steering rack broke away from the frame cross member. Now every time I turn the wheel there is a popping sounds and the steering feels loose compared to what it did before the sound accord. There is also a hole in the back of the frame behind the back tire. My attached tow package ripped sections of the frame and caused crack to extend towards the front of the frame. The fuel tank straps are also severely corroded.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2023

Frame and suspension is rotted away badly was recall on frame in 2005.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

The frames of Toyota trucks are known for rusting through and perforating causing the vehicle to be unsafe to own/drive. My frame is seperating and rusting through. The dealer "stated" they performed a treatment to prevent this deterioration from happening, however it clearly did not work. I have contacted the dealer to have the frame replaced under the safety recall but the are refusing since they said it was already attempted to be "treated". The vehicle is in excellent working condition and Toyota should honor this safety recall since it was a manufacturing issue that is causing these frames to fail prematurely. I do not feel safe driving my truck in the condition it is in but cannot afford to buy another since Toyota will not replace the failed frame.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2022

It’s has come to my attention that this is an on going issue with Tundra frames rusting out after being sprayed I inherited this truck from a family friend and the truck is getting to where it’s not drivable for frame issues this needs to be addressed by Toyota ASAP!!.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2022

The frame is rusted, luckily a mechanic caught it in time, it’s not road worthy.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2022

I own a 2005 Toyota Tundra 4dr. And in January of this year 2022 a recall was sent out on ‘inadequate hardness of ball joint housing’. My Tundra is having ball joint problems meaning skeeking on the front wheels, vibrating until over 55 mph. , and suspension problems. I called a Toyota dealership to get the truck fixed but they told me that back in 2007 the ball joints were already fixed. I shouldn’t be having this problem if the recall just came out. I’m trying to get this problem corrected on my truck without having to pay the $900 bill they want to charge me to fix it. Whst can I do ??.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2021

Gas tank strap rusted thru and broke. Brake lines rusted thru and leaked differential rusted thru and leaked. Frame excessively and extensively rusted.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2021

I seen that Toyota were recalled for the frame issues on 2004 and up, mine is 2005 Tundra with frame issues, like it’s sad, such a nice truck, but frame is horrible. Why is mine not being shown as recalled, but yet I have frame problems? I got my truck from a 1 owner who had it since new, it just hit 100,000 miles on it, it was serviced by Toyota dealership, I’m not sure why they didn’t do nothing with it over the years to help or fix the rust issue on the frame. It’s not just a little rusty, it’s really rusty, and it was garage kept too. Did they forget to include my VIN number when they started the recalls? doesn’t make sense why they would fix some and not all, all around the same years. Thanks jim.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2021

Perforations in frame along seams due to rust isolated to the driver side front frame rail. Toyota is aware of this problem and refuse service and repair.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2021

2005 Tundra frame is rusted in many places. Very bad where frame sections meet and now the frame is rusting through the main horizonal frame itself as the attached picture indicates. This has been an ongoing issue for years but is bad enough now that it is not safe and will not pass inspection. I know there was a recall on this frame and I was told it was ok when I brought it in for the recall. I t has been rusting ever sense. We have only purchased Toyotas and Lexus vehicles for the last 20 or more years and this is the third truck rust has totaled. Please help.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2020

I recently learned that the frame on my 2005 Toyota Tundra has rusted completely through and the vehicle cannot be driven safely. We never received notice of a repair campaign. Both Toyota dealership and corporate rejected my request to have the frame replaced. The vehicle has only 56,000.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2019

Upon close inspection (vehicle parked) the truck has severe (more than average) corrosion/ perforation (rust) of the main frame/ chassis. Toyota had undercoated the vehicle to resolve the issue although this only masked the underlying corrosion, allowing for the corrosion to go unnoticed. The frame has currently perforated (visible holes/ rust in the integral structure). The vehicles main structure is compromised do to the poor material/ excessive corrosion. The vehicles safety may be severely compromised.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2019

My 2005 Toyota Tundra has 217k miles and is, mechanically, in terrific shape, except the frame has rusted out on the drivers side. Structurally, it's still drivable safely, but it will no longer pass state inspection (maine, USA). Thousands of other Toyota Tundras of the same style and manufacturing process and similar model year have had frame recalls done for the exact same reason. I do not feel it is fair to skip this year. This is my family's only source of transportation right now, and it is vital to keep it on the road. Please allow a frame recall for this model year!.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2019

Service bulletin p2445 for secondary air ingection system then notes the frame is corrosion and mounts are braking off.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2017

In 2015, my vehicle was part of a Toyota recall for cold weather vehicles, to undercoat the frame to mitigate any possible problems from snow, ice and salt rusting out the frame prematurely. I complied, bringing my vehicle to the local Toyota dealer, heritage Ford & Toyota, 1620 shelburne rd. , so. Burlington, vt. They had my vehicle for 3 days, and removed the pick up body from the vehicle and undercoated the frame from the transmission cross member to the rear of the frame. This past tues. ,Aug. 8th, 2017, I had my vehicle at my local service station to have the oil changed, and to have the front brakes looked at. Soon after they drove the vehicle into the service bay, my mechanic came to me and said he had something to show me. That's when he showed me the holes on the top rail of the frame just back from the engine motor mount on the passenger side of the vehicle. I was horrified when my mechanic told me this condition essentially rendered my vehicle uninspectable. I went back to heritage Toyota where I had the undercoating done, and they said basically, since they had met the original conditions of the 2015 recall, there was nothing more they were required to do for me. They referred me to the Toyota customer care telephone number. When I called the case worker, cheryl from Toyota, she told me the same thing that heritage Toyota had told me, they had covered themselves by completing the recall requirements for my vehicle, and there was nothing more they could do. My case # for Toyota was 1708081681. I feel that either heritage Toyota or Toyota motor corp. Are still responsible for what happened to my truck. Heritage, because they had my vehicle for 3 days, & they could have checked the frame in the engine well at some point. And Toyota motor corp, because they have had very well documented frame issues with it's trucks for many years.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2016

The frame of the truck was recalled for excessive rust. The dealer sprayed on a coating per the recall in 2013. The coating has all flaked off and the frame is losing chunks of rust. Toyota know about this problem but won't do anything about it once they spray the defective coating on it. The truck frame needs replaced and they won't do it. Somebody is going to be seriously injured or killed in one of these trucks when the frame breaks at speed.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

Horn, airbag and cruise control light on do to a bad spiral cable, this is dangerous. This is a ongoing problem with this vehicle.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2014

I had a check engine light that came on which, after checked by a computer, was determined to be part number 1445 (p1445). I researched it out and discovered that this is a common problem with the Toyota Tundra 2005 models, yet Toyota would not cover the cost nor did they care unless I was willing to pay for it. P1445 is for the secondary air injection system valve #2 stuck closed. Is there any way I can be reimbursed by Toyota for having to pay for the replacement of a part that many have had the same problem with? this is clearly a faulty part put into the 2005 Toyota Tundras and Toyota should be required to pay for it's replacement.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

Cold start of vehicle, very large noise, lasted about 1 minute. Only does this when cold start. If vehicle has been driven no sound. Research indicate, that other problems noted on the internet were the air injection pump, and switching values, has foam that has deteriated and fell down on the DC motor and burned the motor out. Seems the manufacter knows of the problem but has only certain model years they are covering. Same part in all years but not covering 2005 which is the model year of my truck. If same part is on different model years they should cover all model years that have this part as it seems this is a very expensive repair. This is a requirement to utilized to improve cold-start emissions, which is mandated requirement. Toyota's customers have a customer support program to extend the warranty should be with all model years that have this part. I have as of yesterday taken my truck to the dealership as I am pretty sure this is the problem. Diagnoisis should be forth coming. Many complaints on internet for this same model year and problem.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

We received several recall notices for frame deterioration and the need for inspection, correction and anti-corrosion chemical application. We took it to the Toyota dealer as requested. They called the next morning to have us pick up the vehicle and the anti-corrosion spray (black gooey stuff similar to undercoating) that they used was everywhere, including on the wiring harnesses, brake lines, the step bars that we installed aftermarket last year, inside of the wheel wells, the mud flaps - it was still wet and smelled awful. We contacted the service manager who blew us off, we called Toyota and they refused to assist, other than to take down the complaint on paper. I can't seem to find an attorney even remotely interested in assisting with this case. Toyota says that the coating may never dry so it will attract all dirt and grime that it's exposed to. It looks and smells horrible. We can't even sell it because it smells so bad! Toyota won't remove it or even repair it, nor will they replace the vehicle.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

Toyota has extended its warranty for the air injection pump and air switching valves on 2007-2010 Tundras. The extension is for 10 years or 150,000 miles from first use. I have a 2005 Tundra that has a failing air injection system. I am within the mileage range of first use . The truck has the same air injection system as the Tundras within the warranty extension, but Toyota refuses to honor the warranty extension on my truck. This is a $4000 fix and the truck is unsafe to drive in the current state.

Secondary air injection system failure, causing the service engine light to come on and fail state emotions testing.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

Gear shift on steering wheel column became loose and it became very difficult to place truck into park. It started gradually until the play in the shifter was so bad that I could no longer put it into drive, reverse or neutral without the shifter handle hitting the windshield wiper handle and causing the windshield wipers to activate and squirt cleaner onto the windshield. I was concerned that it was going to slip out of gear or into gear causing injury or death, and it became increasingly hard to put the vehicle into park. I took it to Toyota dealer and they replaced it. I have the part (a1 shaft sub-assembly / bd376 housing, steering column) and it is defective inferior metal part broken into two pieces.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2013

The frame on my 2005 Toyota Tundra is rusted to the point of failure. Frame recall should include all Toyota Tundras. Additional components have rusted including linkage arms. Body looks great. Toyota has no comment.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2013

Brought Toyota Tundra 2005 to dealership to inspect frame for rust. Rust hole in frame under driver side, and along seam of frame. Dealer declared vehicle unsafe to drive, and took pictures of frame. Instructed to call Toyota and created case. But Toyota said vehicle was out of warranty and they would do nothing.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

Factory defect, part of dashboard melting/sticky.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2007

2005 Toyota Tundra -- 3 times it sped up on its own. Either floormat and/or accelerator. Third time there was a crash, into our retaining wall in our driveway. I tried to get people to pay attention, contacted customer service, etc. , at Toyota, no one believed it. Also insurance company said it was driver's fault.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2007

Truck accelerated due to floor mat slippage.
