The 2007/2008 Toyota Tundra has a design defect with its air injection pump that allows the pump to injest water when driving for an extended period in rainy weather especially at highway speeds. When the water is then transferred to the switching valves. The vehicle will loose speed rapidly on a medium grade with no ability to accelerate. The cruise control causes the tranmission to downshift repeatedly trying to accelerate. This is extremely dangerous at high speed. In addition the vehicle stablization control is disabled. This condition also short circuits and disables 4w drive and cause the check engine light to come on. The inability to maintain speed or to accelerate creates a very hazardous condition. I have had this problem corrected twice at a cost of $1600. The dealer has informed me that the problem will continue to occur because of a design flaw. Toyota acknowledges the problem in a service bulletin to the dealership (t-sb-039-08 rev 2 dated 10/28/08). There is a remedy for this problem but the dealership claim it has no authorization from Toyota to implement it. As a result I am forced to drive a vehicle that becomes unsafe when it rains.
I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra with a 4. 7 l engine and 5 speed automatic. On two separate occasions, I have had the truck in park on a very slight incline, and the truck has suddenly started rolling backwards.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle would jerk and pull abnormally when attempting to accelerate. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer who informed the contact that the ecm terminals had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was approximately 34,000.
While in park and with engine running and parking brake engaged, after about 5 seconds vehicle suddenly rolled backwards down an approximate 10 degree slope and crashed into a building. My wife and 3 children were in the vehicle (fortunately all were wearing seat belts) and suffered minor injuries.
Truck was in cruise control. Accelerated to pass slower traffic. Let off throttle. Truck went to full throttle. Could not get truck to decelerate. Had to stand on brakes to bring to a stop. Truck needs new rotors and pads Toyota will not help. Occurred once. The consumer stated the floor mat and gas pedal can interact. When the all weathr mat is not clipped in place, and is moved under the gas pedal, it will become fully depressed. The mat can trap the pedal. Updated 11/13/09 updated 03/29/10.
