Years back there was a recall in regard to the frame. I brought the truck into colonial Toyota in milford CT for the recall. I was advised that the frame was fine and did not need to be replaced. Recently when I brought the truck in for an oil change the owner advised me that the gas straps attached to the frame had rusted out. He demanded that I remove the vehicle from his facility ASAP due to the excessive danger this created and not to drive the truck. He advised me to get rid of it. I reached out to a mechanic who advised that it could be welded back; however it would cost thousands of dollars to have that done. I contacted Toyota corporate to explain the situation and they advised me that there was nothing they could do to assist me with this issue. This truck had been well maintained and it ran perfectly with 280,000 miles. My goal was to run it to 400,000 miles as Toyota trucks tend to have a high mileage longevity when serviced as required. New a/c was replaced within the last three years; brakes/rotors/belts were replaced within the last 18 months. This truck was well maintained. Since this was my work truck I needed a vehicle ASAP and ended up purchasing a new 2024 Toyota Tundra which was an expense that I hadn't been expecting at all. I opted for the extended warranty option that was an extra $3,000. 00 to protect me and the new truck going forward. Toyota should be responsible for some of these additional expenses as it was Toyota who advised me during the recall that the frame was fine and did not need to be replaced. Obviously that was not correct and they should be held responsible for the negative and very expensive outcome that this caused.
Traction control nvcs off light came on and will not go off now.
Sais/emissions system constantly malfunctions and puts the truck into limp mode, making it difficult to drive over 40mph and incredibly dangerous if it occurs while driving. We’ve been trying to fix it for years with no luck, after thousands of dollars. I’m surprised there’s not any class action lawsuits against Toyota for this issue as it’s fairly common in their trucks.
Traction control and vsc.
Rusted frame on my 2008 Toyota Tundra.
Secondary air pump failure, truck has a tough time accelerating, I’ve unhooked the pipes and drained the water out the pipes but that did little good. The check engine light is on, “vsc off” light blanks on and off, as well as the “slippery tire” sign stays on.
Frame rust of my 2008 Toyota Tundra truck.
Frame rust.
My frame rusted.
Received recall notice about frame rot problems. Had vehicle inspected at prime Toyota route 2, 700 old union turnpike, lancaster, MA in November 2018. They told us frame was okay and we have the documentation. 2 years later (approx. 10,000 miles more), (when driving) frame broke. Have been in contact with Toyota. Toyota tells me to call dealership. Dealership stated they would talk to Toyota rep and call back. Toyota said I need to go to dealership because they inspected it. Dealership won't call back after numerous calls. Called Toyota and they opened another claim. Never heard back from Toyota. Have been dealing with this for about a year now. We believe that dealer did not do a proper inspection.
While traveling at 70 mph on a congested highway, the engine suddenly made loud noise then stalled. No engine or maintenance lights illuminated and there was no warning. The vehicle was very narrowly able to be controlled to a stop. Braking was diminished due to engine stall and steering was also compromised. Once removed to a safe location it was discovered that the left intake spring broke in half allowing the valve to descend into the cylinder, struck the piston, rebounded, struckthe cam shaft and bent. The cost of repairs are estimated at 9k. Internet research has indicated multiple complaints from across the country of identical failures.
Tundra won't accelerate as engine goes into limp mode which restricts speed capability of vehicle. This is related to air injection pump failure and related also to air switching valves. Limp mode on a Toyota restricts speed at which you can drive, shifting and top speed are restricted. Slows to point if entering highway or trying to keep up with speed over 50 mph could not do it. Toyota is aware and has a customer support program ztq buying vehicle used not aware of this or anything about it. I slowed traffic and caused back up on the street was traveling could nit do more than 20-30 mph on road posted at 50 mph. Glad not entering freeway. Plenty of u tube videos detailing repair and problem. The Toyota documentation says 477,000 Tundra vehicles were covered by this enhanced warranty program. Previous owner did complain to Toyota and had computer replaced on vehicle.
I was driving on the highway with no other cars around and my sunroof shattered on me raining glass down on the inside of my truck. I called a local Toyota dealer and they told me that they didn't believe me and that a rock must have hit it. They offered me no help whatsoever.
We bought the trunk brand new in 2008 and we have had to replace the alternator twice. Once in 2012 and now in 2017. Seems the alternator only lasts 4 years before giving out. Also, the power locks stopped working in 2013.
Frame where fuel tank strap is rusting causing strap to come lose and front of fuel tank fell and hit road while traveling on route 62 hwy. Took truck back to dealership to have the issue fixed and on my way home it fell off again so I had to put a larger bolt in the rust hole just to get my fuel tank to stay on.
Leaf springs giving out, never put half of the max weight capacity, called Toyota they told me nothing they can do and they stand behind their product even though I personally know someone that had theirs repaired at no charge Toyota would not fix it for free if they did not know the product was bad and faulty. Noise coming from front end of vehicle while driving between 10 to 30 mph. I was told needed entire new front end, and other components for the repair. I did not know Toyota did not care about the public so much to let unsafe vehicles to be out on the road. Cannot drive vehicle until these repairs are done for worry of safety for me and my family.
We have had issues with the power door locks on our Toyota Tundra. The truck does not lock or unlock with the fob or with the door locks. It is an issue with all the doors. It is erratic as to which door respond to the fob and which don't. It changes everyday. Something is probably wrong with the actuator or computer. It is a nuisance, inconvenience and dangerous;in a case of an emergency, one wants to be able to open one's doors quickly. This was discovered a year ago and continues to be an issue.
The power windows on all 4 doors do not work when the weather goes to just freezing. I do not think there is enough insulation in the doors or water is accumulating inside the motors that run windows. I have only owned this truck since November of 2012 and did not drive it last winter as I work away from home for months at a time. This winter I was home and the power windows do not work when it is cold outside. I have never experienced this with any other vehicle in cold/frozen weather before so, I think there is something wrong. I live in washington state and it does not get that cold overnight here where I live just down to freezing usually in winter. My wife drives an Acura rl 2006 and has never had this happen to her with her car.
Sudden acceleration on my 2008 Toyota Tundra. The truck would not stop, kept getting faster and faster turned key off to stop. Took to dealer and they said they put a shim on the gas peddle and then test drove the truck and found no problem. I called Toyota corporate and they said they would only note my account and will not investigate problem. My complaint is that no one will look into the vehicle computer to see what caused the vehicle to accelerate so fast. Why it got worse when I applied the brakes? Toyota is totally not taken this serious at all.
