1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2023

On 5 different occasions between January-March 2023 the accelerator pedal continued to accelerate after the pedal pressure was released. Even with braking, the accelerator pedal did not decelerate. Pedal had to be lifted back to original position by using toe of foot underneath the pedal. Occurred 4 times in city driving and once on highway. Extremely hazardous conditions if I did not react to stop the acceleration. On three of the occasions I was behind a vehicle which could have caused an accident had my reaction not been quick. Toyota dealership stated all previous recalls in regards to accelerator pedal were complied with and refused any additional service to uncontrolled acceleration issues.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2022

I have multiple problems with the dash lights going on and off , have taken it to car repair when scanned and had replaced relays many times. I have read many stories of people having the same problem with Toyota Tundras and no one can figure it out. Toyota should have a recall for this because it is not just one or two people with this same exact problem, it is many Toyota Tundra owners going through the same problems that I' am experiencing.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2021

Vehicle accelerates slow where it takes time for truck to gain spread. Also the cruise control doesn’t work for some reason when button is pushed the cruise light comes on but truck doesn’t cruise on its own.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

I am having problems with my truck. When driving it. It looses power. Engine shakes. . Goes from okay to loss of power to back to having power. In codes are showing up when placed on the computer. I have replaced spark plugs and wires. I took the truck to Toyota and they advised me that their has been recalls with fuel pump and could be the problem I am having.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

When you get ready to drive down the road the accelerator is very touch I took it in for the recall but it's still the same very dangerous, the passenger seat belt while the truck is going down the road the seat belt will tighten up so tight its chocking you and it want loosen up unless you uhook it.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2017

Transmission slipped and vehicle lose of power. Dashboard all warning lights began to flash. Pulled to side of road. Turned off vehicle attempted to reset. Managed to get vehicle to nearby parking lot and out of traffic. Complete loss of power to drive train. Cause was power steering unit sensor per Toyota. Toyota covered part in attempt to prevent this complaint. From internet, "some 2007-2008 Toyota Tundra vehicles may experience power steering dtcs p0552 and/or p0553. The power steering sensor has since been changed to correct this condition. The old/previous power steering sensor is p/n 89448-34010. This has been replaced with sensor p/n 89448-34020. Using tis techstream, confirm the condition by checking for dtcs p0552 and/or p-553. Disconnect the pressure sensor connector and proceed with removing the power steering pressure switch, which is located at the power steering vane pump and is mounted to the high pressure feed line. Install the new power steering pressure sensor, tightening to 15. 2 ft. -lbs. (20. 6 nm). With the new sensor fully installed and connected, start the engine and check for leaks. Adjust power steering fluid level as needed. ".

The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was take to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the air intake and valve and pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. Ak.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2013

Was driving 08 Tundra up hill around 20 mph and cel vss lights came on lo range light flashing on dash truck lost all power. Found out code p2442 secondary air induction system failure put truck into limp mode thousands of dollars in just parts to repair this system. So many people having same problems with same vehicle. Toyota should issue a recall and re engineer a remedee for this poor design at no cost to the consumer. I spent alot of money on a truck to avoid these problems, now I haved to drive an unsafe truck stuck in limp mode because I do not have the funds to repair, two thousand in just parts, Toyota is charging people 4 to five thousand dollars to repair this problem when it should be recalled at no cost to the consumer due to the poor engineering and faulty design on the secondary air induction system pumps and switching valves. . . . . . I am very surprised and disapointed in Toyota for they have always backed up there product but this is a poor product that they are not backing up when they most certainly should stand behind it. Also this system should be redesigned to put on check engine light but should not put vehicle in limp mode it is a serious safety issue especialy when trying to get on the highway etc. . . . . Also the cost and problems of this uneeded system is outrageous, all this system does is force air into the exhaust for the first couple of minutes of engine running at startup. I swore by Toyota for over twenty years, not any more , wish I got a chevy.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2012

Check engine light is lit. A few weeks later vsc light started blinking.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2011

The check engine light came on and the vehicle won't accelerate over 45 mph. Almost caused me to have an accident. Seems like Toyota knows about this problem and won't do anything to recall the problem.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2011

The abs actuator failed on my 2008 Toyota Tundra. Which causes all my dash function to fail, no antilock brakes, no 4x4, speedometer inoperable. Cost for repairs. $2500. Trucks only three years old.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2011

Driving along approximately 25 mph depressed accelerator pedal slightly took foot off pedal vehicle continued to accelerate increasing speed. I immediately depressed brake placing vehicle into neutral then again pressing on the accelerator and releasing it. The engine revved back to normal. I then placed it back into drive without further incident. This was the second time this occurred since purchase of this vehicle in 2007. This was the first incident since Toyota had honored the recall relating to the accelerator and fixed it, I called the Toyota dealership today and will be taking my truck in for them to look at tomorrow.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2011

The contact owns 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 09v388000 (vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal). After the repairs, the contact stated that the accelerator pedal was too short and his foot would slip off of the pedal while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer, where they stated that there were no other repairs that could be performed on the accelerator pedal. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 27,500.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The vehicle was repaired at an authorized dealer under the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 09v388000, vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal. Upon receiving the vehicle from the authorized dealer he noticed that the accelerator pedal was made of plastic material. Due to the plastic material the accelerator pedal became very slippery. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 2,600.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

I own a 2008 Toyota Tundra which I purchased new. From the day I purchased it, the accelerator fluctuated whenever I hit a bump. This was most evident when I started from a stop and hit a bump. I didn't think too much about it until the fluctuation became so bad I thought I would at some point, lose control of the vehicle. I notified Toyota about this problem when in 2010, my vehicle was recalled for accelerator problems. Toyota replaced the accelerator. I continued to complain about the sensitive accelerator until a district service manager notified me that my vehicle's accelerator was normal. He further indicated that new Tundra's had the same accelerator feel as mine. The district manager stated that he had parked my vehicle next to a new vehicle in case I wanted to compare the new vehicle to mine. I did not compare the two vehicles. However, I feel the accelerator in my vehicle is a hazard and should be examined for the safety of those who own Toyota Tundra's.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2010

I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra with approx 48,000 miles. The truck is "limping" around with no power. I cannot drive it on the interstate as it will not go over 45 or 50 mph. It will not accelerate comfortably either, service indicator lights are on. I took it to a local Toyota dealer who said that it needs $3300 worth of repairs. I have not had this problem fixed due to the cost. They tell me it is the secondary air injection system and that I need to have 2 pumps and control valves replaced. The computer code it reads is "p2442". There is a TSB on this error (0329-08). After researching these part numbers (17610-0s010 (2 of these) and 25701-38060), there seems to be many consumers with the exact same problem I have. There also seems to be a question of this being a design or engineering failure of these parts. From what I understand, this system failure is part of the emissions system and has no effect on the way the truck runs except it throws the truck into "limp" mode until it is resolved. I was able to disconnect the battery at first to reset the computer and my truck was running fine. Now, however, this will not eliminate the problem and I am running around in what I feel is and unsafe vehicle due to fact that it will not accelerate or maintain proper speed for various driving conditions.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2010

Toyota recall notice for accelerator pedal. Not sure what is determined to be a reasonable amount of time for the Toyota dealer to schedule repairs. My experience, today(3-22-10) I called for an appointment, an was given a date for three weeks later(4-9-10). If this could be life threating defect, I would think Toyota would have dealers on extended hours and saturdays to resolve the problem with the amount of vehicles they have in the recall.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2010

I have a Toyota Tundra 2008, will leaving the bank, I was slowly approaching a stop sign. There was a car in front of me already waiting at the stop sign. I tried to step on the brake, and the floor mat came up over the brake pedal, restricting me from fully pressing down the pedal. I could not stop, I turned my truck to run into the curb and not hit the car in front of me, I hit the curb and ran up on the side walk. While moving slowly I quickly removed the mat from over the pedal, and brought my vehicle to a complete stop. No one was injured, no damage to any property. Now I have received a letter from Toyota today coincidently asking me to turn in my truck for recall.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

I have 2008 Tundra that was recalled for 'acceleration problems' and ostensibly fixed, although I had never experienced "any" problems. Now that is has "been fixed" I do have a problem. From a stand-still position, I will depress the accelerator and nothing happens. All of a sudden the accelerator will engage causing my truck to, all of a sudden, jump (accelerate). It doesn't happen all the time. . . . But I'm afraid that it could happen at a stop light where I wish to begin forward - no results and then a possible surge where I could possible hit a vehicle in front of me.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

The vehicle had been sitting in the driveway overnight. When I got in to go to work in the morning several warning lights were illuminated. The slip, brake, 4x4 hi and lo, vehicle stability control, and lsd lights stayed on until I stopped and turned the vehicle off and then back on. When I restarted the vehicle the lights were out. This has happened six times in the past 12 months. Two other times the brake light was on and stayed on until I turned off the vehicle and restarted. There has never been an acceleration issue. On two occasions, while driving on a dry road the traction control engaged and took the power out of the vehicle. On both occasion was driving in town at less than 30 mph. The local dealership has never been able to duplicate the fault.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) subject: unintentional acceleration event with 2008 Toyota Tundra, [xxx] , following recall to insert accelerator pedal shim the purpose of this letter is to document and inform you of an unintentional acceleration event that I experienced with my 2008 Toyota Tundra on the afternoon of February 27, 2010. The event was experienced within 10 minutes/3. 5 miles after leaving the dealership following dealer-service work that included, among other items, implementation of the Toyota recall to insert the accelerator pedal shim (ssc). This is the only such event experienced to date with this truck. The event with the vehicle parked and the engine idling normally (approximately 800 rpm), I placed my foot on the brake in preparation of shifting the transmission from park to drive. My foot was well centered on the brake pedal and not in contact at all with the throttle pedal. There was no change in engine speed at this point. I then shifted the transmission from park to drive. As soon as the drive position was engaged, with my foot unchanged from its firm position on the brake pedal, the engine speed immediately went to full throttle. As I heard the engine speed up, I applied full pressure to the brake to hold the vehicle in its stationary position. The rear wheels broke loose from the pavement and began spinning; however, the vehicle remained stationary, held by the braking of the front wheels. Fortunately, the pavement was wet, which facilitated the rear wheels losing traction with the pavement. I immediately turned the ignition off while the drive position was still engaged. Once the engine was shut down, I placed the transmission in the park position. As I never had a chance to place my foot on the throttle pedal before the event occurred, it was not mechanical in nature and can only be attributed to an electrical/control issue.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2010

This compliant compliments the current Toyota recall that is related to the sticking accelerator pedal. The pedal in my 2008 Toyota Tundra does not get stuck at acceleration point but is sticky during the acceleration process. This is a physical issue that is related to the pedal movement as depressed from a stopped position. This has occurred at least 70 % of the time since I owned the vehicle (purchased new). Since my vehicle is on the recall list I feel that this is a situation that should also be investigated. My spouse has notice the difference in acceleration varying from a very smooth take off to a harsh jerk and that launches the vehicle forward.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

2008 Toyota Tundra 4wd 5. 7l failure began Feb of 2010 truck entered "limp mode" and was taken to dealer for diagnostics. Problem determined to be "bank 2 valve stuck open for secondary air injection system" on my vehicle. Truck has entered in and out of limp mode consistently for up to a week at a time since issue surfaced. During limp mode vehicle cannot accelerate properly and is limited in power and speed, creating many dangerous situations especially involving highway travel. For example, vehicle often cannot accelerate over 50-55mph solely, and I have even become trapped on an interstate at 26mph pulling a trailer. Toyota has failed to accept responsibility for problem and denied my claim regarding issue and defect causing the situation.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

My 2008 Toyota Tundra had the pedal accelerate as I was backing up at my local grocery store. I had been complaining to my local dealership and they kept informing me nothing was wrong. It wasn't until this happened that they sent a tech out to inspect my vehicle. I am still waiting to hear from the tech. I feel like I keep getting the run around from Toyota. I could have been seriously hurt or I could have hurt someone. I continue having problems with the accelerator and nobody wants to take responsibility. What are my options? do I stop driving my only vehicle because it is not safe?.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2010

2008 Toyota Tundra surged forward in a car wash striking the side of the building. Building is concrete block and did not sustain any damage. Damage to Tundra is in excess of $2400. I feel that Toyota should cover my $1000 deductible, reimburse my insurance company for the remainder of the body repair and send a letter to my insurance company stating that surge was do to sticky accelerator pedal and was not my fault.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2010

In a 2008 Toyota Tundra, the accelerator pedal all of a sudden became non-responsive, multiple dash malfunction lights illuminated. When the pedal was pushed the motor would very slowly rev.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2009

The contact owns 2008 Toyota Tundra. While driving approximately 60 mph she noticed that the rpms rapidly increased within seconds and the vehicle accelerated from 60 mph to 110 mph. The failure occurred on three occasions. The dealer was unable to determine the failure code; therefore, stated that the failure was caused by the floor mat. Report 1001152167 was filed with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 41,000.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2009

As I arrived at my home and drove up into my driveway I experienced an unexplained acceleration on my 2008 Toyota Tundra that made me react to slam on the brakes and cause the truck to slide on an unpaved (dirt) surface in my yard and slide into the trunk of a pine tree and damaging the front bumper to my truck. I heard on the news that there was a recall for the floor mats on this vehicle to be removed if it did not have clips to hold the mat in place. My truck does have the clips to hold the mat in place and prevents the acceleration pedal from getting lodged with the mat. I do believe the acceleration problem was caused by an unknown defect and not the floor mat. Currently, the floor mat remains in place on its clips without interference to the acceleration pedal. Today, I received a recall letter from Toyota to remove the floor mat, therefore, I will. Again I don't believe the floor mat was the problem. I just want this complaint documented because it caused around $500 worth of damaged to my truck.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the driver drove 12 mph when it was raining heavily and when she stepped on the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated on it's own. She crashed into a construction barrier that was in the middle of the road. The driver stated that the vehicle has accelerated previously a few times. The failure mileage was 10,030. The current mileage was 11,000.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2009

Was returning home via the interstate from FL; we exited to refuel. I filled the truck up at a shell station as we were leaving the pumps I started my Tundra placed my foot on the brake to place it into gear and suddenly without warning after placing the vehicle into drive it took off just like I had press the accelerator it although I had not even placed my foot on the gas pedal. I immediately depressed the brake as forcefully as I could the vehicle kept accelerating; I placed the vehicle into neutral with the engine still revving like the gas pedal was still being depressed. I then turned off the key. This was the first and only time I had experienced any such problem since purchasing this vehicle. So far nothing has been done to the vehicle in relation to this problem.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. While driving approximately 10 to 30 mph when he took his foot of the gas pedal the vehicle continued to accelerate and when his foot is on the brake pedal the vehicle lunged forward. Two separate Toyota dealers diagnosed the failure six times and also experienced the failure; however, the dealer is waiting for a response from the manufacturer on how to repair the vehicle. He also filed claim number 0904137238 with the manufacturer who followed up with him to find out if the dealer repaired the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 19,699 and the current mileage was 34,850. Updated 3/4/2010 the consumer stated he had difficulty shifting gears at low speeds. Updated 07/07/10.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the engine would exhibit an abnormally high increase in rpms at startup and the motor would race loudly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the failure could possibly have been related to the air injection pump or the air switch device. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

Throttle control, 2008 Toyota Tundra with 5. 7 l engine. Electronic "fly by wire" design has delays in advancing throttle on motor. Several complaints on Tundra blogs about this as well. Could be dangerous when making u turns or in blind areas as there is a hesitation in the engine response. I asked dealer about adjusting and was told that unit was not adjustable. I have my vehicle in the shop now for a replacement of this unit.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. While accelerating from a stop sign at approximately 5 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle lunged forward and crashed into the passengers side of an oncoming vehicle. The police were called and a report was filed at the scene. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer were contacted. No repairs were made to the vehicle. There were no injuries. The failure and current mileages were 5,000.
