I have a 2009 Toyota Tundra with the 5. 7l engine and 6 speed auto transmission. Intermittent shifting occurs as slow speeds, with the vehicle acting like the transmission is in neutral. This has caused serious concern when trying to accelerate and could lead to a potential accident. I have also had this occur on slick surfaces, with the engine reving up before the transmission engages. This has caused extreme tire slippage and risk of losing control. I have had this truck into the dealership three times and have had their quality team look at it, with no satisfactory resolution. Other owners of Tundras are also reporting this same phenomena, and concerns, with no resolution from Toyota. We all need your help to get corrective action put in place. An accident is waiting to happen, if it already hasn't.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Tundra double cab sr5. The contact stated that the transmission was not shifting properly and when attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would independently downshift to lower gears. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where they added transmission fluid but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was then taken to a second dealer who stated that there was too much transmission fluid in the vehicle and advised the contact to replace the transmission. The current mileage was 31,324 and the failure mileage was 30,000.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Tundra. While approaching a stop sign or depressing the brake pedal at speeds of at least 25 mph, there would be a sudden abnormal increase in the rpms. The vehicle would also lunge forward while shifting gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that the transmission on his particular model was operating as designed. No repairs were made to the vehicle, however the failure persisted and progressively became worse. The failure and current mileages were approximately 7,816. Updated 04/05/10 the cosumer stated there was a harsh shift/ hesitation from 1st to 2nd gear. Updated 09/13/10.
